I HAVING NOTICE WHEN ACCELERATING UP TO ABOUT 25-35 MILES PER HOUR THERE IS A CONSANT RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM MY STEERING COLUMN. ALSO WHEN I HIT A SMALL OR LARGE BUMP IN THE ROAD THERE IS A LOUD CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL LIKE IT IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. IN THE LAST FEW DAYS I HAVE NOTICE WHEN I TRYING TO BRIGHTEN OR DIM MY LIGHTS AT NIGHT, THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH CAUSES THE LIGHTS TO FLICKER ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT MOMENTARILY. IT SEEMS WHAT EVER IS AFFECTING MY STEERING COLUMN IS AFFECTING MY LIGHTS AS WELL. IT IS GETTING VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND THIS IS MY ONLY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
ABOUT TWO TO THREE WEEKS STARTED NOTICING A CRACKLING NOISE AS I AM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT AT LOW SPEED AS THE TIME WENT BY ABOUT TWO WEEKS THE NOISE GRADUALLY INCREASED AND NOW I HAVE ALSO NOTICED A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND GETTING TROUGH A BUMP ON THE ROAD . I AM WARE OF THE TWO RECALL CAMPAIGNS THAT YOU HAVE LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE BUT MY CAR VIN # IS NOT LISTED. CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT AT THIS TIME I AM FEARFUL FOR MY FAMILY AND ME BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
THE STEERING WHEEL CLICK AND RATTLES WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE RATTLING NOISE IS EXTREMELY LOUD AND WHEN TURNING THE CLICKS ARE CONSISTENLY HAPPENING.
I NOTICE SOME PLAY AND A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL, ALONG WITH A KNOCKING /RATTLING SOUNDS IN THE STEERING COLUMN AREA WHEN DRIVING ON BUMPY ROADS. THIS ISSUE MAY HAVE BEEN PRESENT FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND AS OF YET HAS NOT GOTTEN ANY WORST. THIS WAS MENTION TO A COWORKER OF MINE WHO WAS A PREVIOUS SONATA OWNER AND INFORMED ME THAT HYUNDAI HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. CHECKED FOR RECALLS WITH VIN AND NONE WERE FOUND. OTHER THEN FOR A CERTAIN YEAR PREVIOUS. FROM RESEARCHING ON LINE THIS SEEMS TO BE MORE WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM THEN HYUNDAI IS LEADING TO BELIEVE. AND NO ONE SAYS HOW DANGEROUS THIS MAY BE, IF LOST OF COMPLETE STEERING IS POSSIBLE?
THE STEERING ON MY CAR IS WOBBLY AND WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, I CAN HEAR CLICKING NOISES. IT HAS PROGRESSED OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE NOISE IS HAPPENING BECAUSE THE COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. APPARENTLY, THE COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE OF WEAR AND TEAR. COME ON NOW...IT'S A 2011 WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN 62K MILES. THE COUPLER IS CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED AT A DEALERSHIP. YOU DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM ON A 2011 VEHICLE.
THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A NOISE, WE CHANGED OIL AS RECOMMENDED BUT NOISE WAS STILL PREVALENT. CAR WAS TAKEN IN, ENGINE FAILURE. ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILT ENGINE. THE CALLED IT A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE AND THEY SENT THE HEAD OUT TO GET ASSEMBLED. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER HYUNDAI DOES NOT HAVE BAND NEW ENGINES AVAILABLE SO THEY MUST REBUILD THE DAMAGED UNITS & SEND THEM OUT OR THE DEALER IS TOLD TO REBUILD. WE HAVE NO CAUSE THE DEALER & HYUNDAI WILL NOT TELL US THE TRUTH. SO WE HAVE OUR CAR BACK WITH A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE IN IT NOT A BRAND NEW ENGINE AS PROMISED.
MY CAR WAS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE AND WOULD CONTINUE TO GET LOUDER AS I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH I DID AT CAR PROS HYUNDAI IN RENTON, WA. MY HYUNDAI WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY FAULT AFTER ONLY OWNING THE CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC MY 2011 SONATA COMPLETELY STOPPED AND THE ENGINE TOTALLY SEIZED UP ENDANGERING MY ENTIRE FAMILY. THERE WAS NO UNUSUAL ENGINE SOUND PRIOR TO IT STOPPING AND NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. WE HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AVOIDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AS IT ENDANGERED 5 LIVES. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE ARE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED AT A MIN. ENGINE COST OF $5800 NOT INCLUDING LABOR OR OTHER PARTS. IN ESTIMATING COSTS, PROBABLY $8000 OR MORE. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ROTATING ASSEMBLY THAT CAUSES SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO PREVENT IT. NOW I HAVE NO CAR TO DRIVE, AND MUST SOMEHOW COME UP WITH THE ABOVE COSTS OR RENT A CAR. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT WAS WELL MAINTAINED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.
48 HOURS AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED TWO SELENODES AND WIRING HARNESS (STATING IT COULD BE MY DRIVING HABITS, BUT WOULD FILE IT UNDER THE WARRANTY) - THE VEHICLE STARTING SHIFTING EVEN HARDER THAN IT PREVIOUSLY HAD AND THEN SUDDENLY WOULD NOT GO OVER 25MPH AND THE RPMS WERE 5-6. LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER) - AND WAS TOLD IT NOW NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAD ZERO ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE TILL IT HIT APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. I HAVE FILED TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE REGARDING THE OTHER TWO INCIDENTS THAT I'VE HAD WARRANTY WORK DONE ON IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. I EXPECT THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY FALL APART BY THE TIME I HIT 100K AND THERE IS NO LONGER A WARRANTY. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY 3 KIDS WITH ME THIS LAST TIME.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK RAPIDLY. THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICK WHEN IN PARK AND I MOVE THE STEEPING WHEEL SLIGHTLY OFF CENTER TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT. WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND GO OVER BUMPS ON THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLUNK NOISE. THE STEERING FEELS LOOSE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 60+. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ANY RECALLS ON THE STEERING. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE ARE MORE VEHICLES WITH THIS STEERING WHEEL ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE. ...UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF
I HAVE 2011 SONATA GLS I BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2011 (I AM THE ONLY OWNER). THE REASON FOR THIS LETTER IS THAT I HAVE A FREQUENT AND INCREASING CLICKING SOUND ON MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN I'M DRIVING AND IT VERY FREQUENTLY COMES AND GETS LOUDER ON A SLIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I'M DRIVING .
THE COIL SPRING ON THE LEFT FRONT BROKE, WE DON'T KNOW WHEN BUT THE CAR WAS IN FOR SOMETHING ELSE. IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE COIL SPRINGS BREAKING AND LUCKILY WE WEREN'T HURT BY THIS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT SHOULDN'T BE PASSED ONTO THE CONSUMER. THE CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 55000 MILES ON IT. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE OTHER SIDE BREAKS AND WE MIGHT BE ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THIS AND I BELIEVE SOME KIND OF RECALL SHOULD BE WARRANTED. THANKS
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK CONNECTING FROM ROUTE 80 TO ROUTE 206 THEN CAR JUST CUTS OFF, NO LIGHTS , NO NOISE JUST DIE'S OUT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD US THAT ENGINE SEIZED, I ASKED WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN BECAUSE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND PUT MY WIFE'S LIFE IN DANGER THAT A CAR CAN JUST SHUT DOWN WITH NO PRIOR WARNING LIGHTS. DEALER TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO TAKE APART ENGINE TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ENGINE EVEN THOUGH I MAINTENANCE THIS CAR APPROXIMATELY EVERY 2 MONTHS AND THE CAR HAD HIGHWAY MILES. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAY IT'S A ENGINE DEFECT AND HYUNDAI WILL NOT PAY TO FIX.

WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT, A BUMPING SOUND IS FELT AND HEARD. THIS IS NEW IN THE LAST 3000 MILES. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY REPLACED A BUSHING BUT THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. CALLED DEALER AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON STEERING AND TECHNICIAN STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR OR IF IT WAS PART OF RECALL.
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER ON PARKING OR WHILE DRIVING, IT MAKES A POPPING/CLICKING NOISE. DURING DRIVING IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND DOESN'T PROVIDE A FULL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE CAR GOES OVER A HOLE ON THE ROAD OR A BUMP IT MAKES A WORST NOISE. IF FEELS LIKE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN IS LOOSE. DURING DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE PROBLEM IS NOT VERY NOTICEABLE UNTIL I NEED TO SWITCH LANES OR MAKE A SUDDEN MOVEMENT. THE CAR ALSO FEELS LIKE PULLS TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE AND I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MAKE A CORRECTION TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT. AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS CONDITION AND THAT I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FLEX COUPLING WHICH IS NOT CHEAP. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT OTHER DRIVERS HAD TO REPAIR THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN/MECHANISM.

THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES VIOLENTLY BETWEEN 60 & 70 MPH.I HAVE TO REDUCE SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY TO REGAIN FULL CONTROL. WHEN STOPPED, THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED JUST LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE/RECALL.

I PURCHASED A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA ON 6/15/2015 WITH 55000 MILES ON IT. SINCE THEN, I'VE HAD NUMEROUS RECALLS ON MY CAR. THE ISSUE I HAVE NOW IS THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON IN THE CAR DASHBOARD. DUE TO LOSS OF WAGES FROM OTHER RECALLS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO GET MY AIRBAG LIGHT CHECKED. THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT. THE LIGHT CAME ON AROUND THE 63000 MILE MARK AND I HAVE NO WARRANTY TO GET THE CAR FIXED. I'VE READ ONLINE ABOUT NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR SAME CAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS ME. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS I'VE READ I'M SURPRISED THERE HASN'T BEEN AN INVESTIGATION OR RECALL YET FOR THIS ISSUE. IT'S A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND IS GOING TO GET ME OR SOMEBODY ELSE DRIVING A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA KILLED IF NOTHING IS DONE. I'VE HAD ATLEAST 5 OTHER RECALLS ON THIS CAR WHICH JUST GIVES ME MORE REASONS TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE MANUFACTURERS FAULT. ON JULY 26, 2015 THE MOTOR OF MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA STARTED TO MAKE A LOT OF NOICE. I WAS ON COUNTRY ROADS AND TRIED TO MAKE IT HOME AND THE ENGINE SIEZED UP A FEW MILES LATER. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP SAID THAT SOMETHING HAD "LET LOOSE IN THE MOTOR" CAUSING TO HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR. HE SAID THE MOTOR WAS SEIZED UP AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY AIRBAG LIGHT. INITIALLY WHEN I WOULD START MY CAR UP THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON BUT THEN IT WOULD GO OFF AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. NOW IT HAS COME ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. IT HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND SEEING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT. IS SOMETHING GOING TO BE DONE CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM?
ON A COUPLE OF SEPARATE INCIDENTS, THE GEAR DISAPPEAR. I WAS DRIVING ON D, THE GEAR WAS ON D, BUT AFTER SEVERAL MILES THE GEAR DISAPPEAR. I PULLED OVER TO PARK THE CAR, I PUT THE CAR ON REVERSE, BUT THE GEAR WAS NOT VISIBLE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON, I COULD SEE THE GEAR THEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THIS HAPPENED, THE CAR DID NOT START AT ALL. THE CAR ENDED UP STARTING AFTER IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. APART FROM THIS ISSUE I'VE BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES. STARTER, AXLES, THE KEY IGNITION SWITCH, SENSORS, ETC. IT'S BEEN VERY TIME CONSUMING AND EXPENSIVE.

I WALKED OUT OF MY HOME AND AROUND THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING (PASSENGER'S SIDE) WAS STICKING OUT ABOUT 1 INCH FROM THE VEHICLE. I OPENED THE TRUNK AND REMOVED THE INTERIOR ACCESS PANEL COVER TO LOOK AT THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY FROM THE INSIDE AND FOUND THAT ALL THE MOUNTING HOLES WERE FRACTURED/SHATTERED, AND NONE OF THE STUDS LIKE BOLTS WERE ATTACHED TO THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE HOUSING ASSEMBLY ONTO THE CAR WAS THE TAILLIGHT WIRE ASSEMBLY. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IN ANY WAY. NO SURFACE SCRATCHES. NO BODY DAMAGE. IT APPEARS THAT THE PLASTIC SHATTERED FROM CRACKS INCURRED AT INSTALLATION WHEN OVERLY TIGHTENED AT FACTORY AND/OR NORMAL VIBRATION OF THE VEHICLE.

THE HORN DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. I EVEN HAD THE "CLOCK SPRING" CHANGED AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. THERE IS A STEM THAT CONNECTS TO THE HORN WHICH IS WORN DOWN AND IT HAS NO CONTACT WITH THE HORN; THAT'S WHY IS DOESN'T WORK. I THINK THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AROUND WITHOUT A HORN TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS FROM WRONG DOING. I CAN'T BE THE ONLY CUSTOMER THAT IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT - MIDDLE LANE OF 3 LANES. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND REALIZED THE CAR HAD STALLED. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART - REPAIR SHOP SAID ENGINE SEIZED - WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. CALLED ONE SALVAGE YARD THAT LISTED 4 IN STOCK - THEY WERE ALL SOLD. I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF TRAFFIC UNTIL A POLICE CAR STOPPED BEHIND ME AND TURNED ON HIS LIGHTS. I AM NOT UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO BEING THE 2ND OWNER (WARRANTY IS HALF - 50,000 MILES). VEHICLE STARTING SHIFTING HARD, THEN WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CAR FELL OUT OF GEAR INTO "NEUTRAL". PULLED OVER. VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK. VEHICLE THEN CONTINUED TO SHIFT HARD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO DEALER. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. WAS TOLD IT WAS TWO SELENODES AND WIRING HARNESS. THIS REPAIR LASTED 48 HOURS. WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY ALTHOUGH THEY SAID IT COULD BE MY DRIVING HABITS.
THE STEERING ON MY VECHILE HAS BECOME VERY LOOSELY CAUSING THE STEERING TO NOT STEER PROPERLY. IF YOU TURN ONE DIRECTION YOUR VECHILE MAY STEER A DIFFERENT WAY. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE STEERING ON THIS VECHILE IN THE US.

MY CAR'S STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING CLICKING NOSE. IT PROBABLY STARTED SOME TIME LAST YEAR, BUT I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT B/C SOUND WAS VERY FAINT. BUT NOW, THE NOISE IS PRETTY LOUD AND THAT IT'S AFFECTING THE CAR'S DRIVING PERFORMANCE. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN I DRIVE OVER A CERTAIN SPEED LIMIT; MAKES NOISE WHENEVER I TURN, GO OVER A BUMP, OR WHENEVER I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN WHEN IT'S STATIONARY.. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND DEALER SAID THAT THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH A RECALL ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT!

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS REPAIRED IN JULY OF 2014. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
MY FATHER IN LAW WHO IS A MECHANIC CHANGED MY OIL ON SUNDAY. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE ONE CAR SO I LEFT VEHICLE HOME SO IT COULD GET CHANGED. MONDAY 7/14/15 I DROVE CAR TO WORK WHICH IS 10 MINS FROM HOME. I DROVE CAR HOME FROM WORK CAR WAS FINE. WHEN MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR BACK FROM THE STORE AND HE SAID THAT HE WENT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR DID NOTHING. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. MY HUSBAND HAD TO COAST ALL THE WAY INTO DRIVEWAY. IN OCTOBER OF 2014 I HAD THE STARTER REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTEE AND 6 RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. DURING THAT TIME THEY HAD BROKEN THE WHOLE FRAME OF THE CAR AND I WAS WITH RENTAL FOR A WEEK AND A HALF. SO AT THIS TIME I THOUGHT THAT THE STARTER WENT AGAIN. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE SHOP SINCE I WAS 484 MILES OVER WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC. LEFT CAR AT DEALERSHIP AT 8:30AM. THEY HAD NOT GOTTEN BACK TO ME UNTIL MONDAY 20, 2015. THE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS THE STARTER WHICH WOULD NOT BE COVERED AND OH YEAH YOU'RE ENGINE HAS SEIZED, AND OH YEAH YOU'RE CAR HAS BEEN LEAKING OIL PROFUSELY. I EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN LEAKING THE ENTIRE TIME IT HAD BEEN SITTING IN MY GARAGE NOR DID IT LEAK ON THE TOW TRUCK. AND THEN I ASKED HOW CAN AN ENGINE SEIZE AT 60000 MILES. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME 8000 FOR STARTER AND REMODED ENGINE AND 6000 FOR NEW ENGINE AND STARTER. I AM NOT REPLACING ENGINE WITH ANOTHER FAILED ENGINE. I AM GOING TO SEEK ADVICE FROM LAWYER. THANK HEAVENS MY HUSBAND WAS NOT DRIVING ON MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN ENGINE CUT OUT. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. ON A TWO LANE SURFACE STREET DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT COURSE AT 35 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE BACK AND FORTH SO VIOLENTLY THAT I COULD BARELY HANG ON AND KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO STOP ON THE ROAD'S SHOULDER. IT CONTINUED TO SHUDDER UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON PROCEEDING AT ABOUT 20 MPH TO A PHONE TO CALL FOR A TOW TO A DEALER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND JERKED THE CAR INTO THE ONCOMING OPPOSITE LANE. IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY AT ANY SPEED. IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME WHEN LOADING THE CAR ONTO THE TOW TRUCK. THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED WELL AFTER THE ENGINE WAS POWERED OFF. THE DEALER'S SERVICE MECHANICS WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS VIOLENT SHAKING CONDITION IN THEIR SHOP WITH THE ENGINE BOTH RUNNING AND WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THEY SUBMITTED A VIDEO ON IT TO HYUNDAI ENGINEERS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS "INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP /MODULE THAT IS BUILT INTO THE STEERING COLUMN." A REPLACEMENT MODULE WAS ORDERED AND REPLACED IN ABOUT FOUR DAYS AND $1033.92.
7/7/2015 MALFUNCTIONING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AROUND 6 PM WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. 7/8/2015 MALFUNCTIONING WARNING LIGHT TURNED OFF ITSELF. 7/9/2015 DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS STATED NEEDED A NEW OIL FLOW VALVE AND STRONGLY RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE OCCUR SIMULTANEOUSLY EVEN THOUGH OIL CHANGE WAS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER 2 MO / 2500 MI. ALL WORK COMPLETED SAME DAY AT A COST OF $379.33 EXCLUDING TAX. 7/10/2015 VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. HAD AAA TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED BAD STARTER LEVER. REPLACED STARTER LEVER SAME DAY FOR TOTAL COST OF $239.09. 7/11/2015 DROVE 0.5 MILES FROM HOME. WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD, A POP SOUND OCCURRED, ENGINE SEIZED, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON, NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE, ENGINE WAS SMOKING. AAA TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
I HAVE A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA AND RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE BOTH FRONT AXLES REPLACED, AS THE FRONT END CLUNKED WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO PARK OR DRIVING OVER A POT-HOLE. THE FRONT END MADE A SOUND LIKE IT WAS "BOTTOMING OUT". I WAS INFORMED BY THE MANAGER AT KERRY HYUNDAI OF FLORENCE, THAT THERE IS A RECALL UP TO 2010 SONATA'S REGARDING THE FRONT AXLES. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI REGARDING REPLACING THE AXLES AS THE AXLES ARE USUALLY THE LAST PART THAT WEARS OUT ON AN AUTOMOBILE. IT COST $640.76 WITHOUT TAX TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. HYUNDAI RELAYED TO ME THAT THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT HANDLES RECALLS AND REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP (LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO REFUND ME)! THANKS
