THE STEERING COLUMN MAKES A LARGE CLICKING NOISE ANYTIME THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED. IT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS COMING LOOSE AND IS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED. THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THIS ITEM. I AM HAVING IT CHECKED OUT TOMORROW. *TR
FUEL SENSOR IS FAULTY. THE GAS LEVEL IS NEVER CORRECT. IT SHOWS EMPTY WHEN IT'S NOT AND RANDOMLY GOES UP AND DOWN SO I NEVER KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR THAN ALL OF A SUDDEN SHE THOUGHT SHE HEARD A MUFFLER SOUND LIKE A RATTLING SOUND. SHE CHECKED THE MUFFLER BUT THE MUFFLER WAS INTACT. THAN AS SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IDLED LOW AS IF IT WANTED TO DIE. THAN SHE GOT OUT AT A PARKING TO INVESTIGATE THE SOUNDS TURNS OUT THE ENGINE IS KNOCKING BAD. I CALL TO GET VEHICLE TOWED TO HYUNDAI. BEFORE THEY RECEIVED THE VEHICLE A SERVICE EMPLOYEE TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THE MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE IS DETERMINED ALSO BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND HOW WELL HE MAINTAINED IT IN ORDER FOR THE WARRANTY TO BE VALID (MY VEHICLE IS PRECERTIFIED IT HAS 44487 MILES AND OIL CHANGE IS DUE AT 44906) AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE LOOKED AT FOR A WEEK. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I KNEW THE EMPLOYEE WAS LYING TO ME AND THE OTHER EMPLOYEE AT THE DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP ASSURED ME THAT THE WARRANTY STARTS WITH ME AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. SO I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO REGARDING THE WARRANTY. I KNOW A KNOCKING ENGINE IS A SEVERE MATTER AND THE FACT THEY LIED TO ME BEFORE LOOKING AT THE CAR ALREADY SEEMS AS IF THINGS ARE TO JUST GET WORST IN REGARDING WITH DEALING WITH THEM. *TR
UPON PURCHASING THE CAR FROM CONICELLI HYUNDAI IN CONSHOHOCKEN, PA THE VERY NEXT DAY I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE BATTERY DIED. TWO DAYS LATER I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK AGAIN FOR A GRINDING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD. THEY TOLD ME IT HAD AN AXEL ISSUE AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT. THEY GAVE IT BCK TO ME ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT AND RIGHT BACK ON FOR THE SAME SOUND. THEY TOOK IT AGAIN AND A FEW DAYS LATER CALLED ME AND ASSURED ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. A FEW MONTHS LATER MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN MENTION AND IT STALLED ON HER IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. FIREMEN PASSING BY STOPPED TRAFFIC AND HELPED TO GET THE CAR TO SAFETY UNTIL THE TOW CAME. FURIOUS AIGHT THIS I CALLED CONICELLI HYUNDAI WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME IT WAS A STARTER ISSUE AND REPLACED THE STARTER FOR ME. ONCE THAT WAS DONE THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER A FEW DAYS MY MECHANIC CALLED ME BACK TO TELL ME THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND IT WOULD COST ME $3,500 TO GET IT FIXED. I RELAYED THIS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ONCE AGAIN THEY BRUSHED ME OFF. SO I WENT TO NEWS STATIONS, FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA ATTORNEY GENERAL AND SPOKE WITH SEVERAL OTHER CONSUMER COMPLAINT AGENCIES TO HAVE SOMETHING DONE. NOTHING BUT A MEDIATION BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS REACHED AND THE DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO NOTHING. MY WIFE'S SAFETY WAS AT STAKE IN A CAR THAT WAS LATER RECALLED FOR ENGINE PROBLEM THAT WAS SOLD TO ME BY THIS DEALERSHIP. AFTER FIGHTING WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE AND NO SOLUTION BEING REACHED I DECIDED TO LET THE LOAN COMPANY TAKE THE VEHICLE WHICH IN TERM ENDED UP AS A NEGATIVE ON MY CREDIT.
DRIVING DOWN HWY @65MPH. CAR LOST POWER. WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD. CAR SMELLED AND SMOKING. CHECKED OIL...2 LITERS LOW. HAD OIL CHANGED 1000 MILES AGO. NO OIL LIGHT CAME ON. HAVE BEEN ROUTINELY CHECKING MY OIL BECAUSE 2 WEEKS AFTER OIL CHANGED HAD CAR SERVICED FOR BRAKES AND MECHANIC CHECKED OIL AND WAS LOW. HE PUT OIL IN. NO OIL LEAKS ANYWHERE. NOW I HAVE TO PAY 4500 FOR ANOTHER 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA ENGINE WHICH I REALLY DON'T WANT TO PUT IT BECAUSE THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE AND REPLACING WITH THE SAME I WILL END UP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLIES FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLIES, BUT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
MY CAR BATTERY STARTED DYING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN MARCH 2015. ON MARCH 20TH, MY CAR WON'T START AGAIN AND THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE BATTERY AND STARTER HAD DIED COMPLETELY AND I HAD TO REPLACE IT AT A COST OF $737.79. AFTER THE REPAIRS ON APRIL 13TH, MY CAR WON'T START AGAIN. I TOLD THE REPAIR SHOP THAT I NOTICED THE NIGHT BEFORE THAT MY BRAKES LIGHT WAS NOT GOING OFF. FIRESTONE TOWED THE CAR AT THEIR EXPENSE AND DID THE REPAIR TO THE BRAKES LIGHT AT NO COST BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY PAID CLOSE TO $738 TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. THEY FOUND THE ISSUE WITH 'STOPPER PAD'. I THEN SUBMITTED A REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST TO HYUNDAI FOR CAMPAIGN #136 BUT THEY ONLY REIMBURSED ME FOR $157 AND REFUSES TO REFUND THE BALANCE. MY CAR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS DID NOT START. THE ISSUES WITH MY CAR WAS THE BRAKE LIGHT STAYING IN AND KILLING MY BATTERY AND AFFECTING MY CAR IN GENERAL. WHEN FIRESTONE BILLED ME FOR THE REPAIRS THEY SAID SHOULD BE DONE, THE CAR CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES UNTIL I NOTICED THE BRAKES LIGHT WAS STAYING ON. FIRESTONE TOWED MY CAR AND REPAIR THE ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE. IF IT WAS NOT RELATED WHY WOULD THEY REPAIR MY VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPOSE? I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NATIONAL SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING AND A CLICKING NOISE. THE CAR LOST POWER. THE ENGINE THROUGH A ROD AND BLEW THE CAM - UPPER AND LOWER HALF OF THE ENGINE BLOCK.
WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN I NOTICED SOME "CLICKING" NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN EXPERIENCING SEVERE ENGINE POWER LOSS AND, AS I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND A LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WAS NEARBY, I WENT THERE. UPON ARRIVAL, I ADVISED THE SERVICE PERSON OF THE SYMPTOMS I'D EXPERIENCED. AFTER A CALL FROM THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, I WAS ADVISED THAT HYUNDAI WANTED THEM (THE DEALER) TO COMPLETELY TEAR THE ENGINE DOWN TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE INTERNALS TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. THE REPRESENTATIVE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE OIL WAS EXTREMELY LOW ON THE DIPSTICK, SO LOW THAT IT DIDN'T EVEN REGISTER. NOTE: THE CAR WAS NEXT SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE AN OIL CHANGE AT 57,600 MILES, AND THIS OCCURRED AT 56,000. A FEW DAYS LATER, I HEAR BACK THAT "HYUNDAI" HAD DECLINED THE WARRANTY COVERAGE, SO I CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND THEY STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS THE ONE WHO HAD IN FACT DENIED THE WARRANTY COVERAGE, AND WOULD BE CONTACTING THEM TO UNDERSTAND THE REASON(S) FOR THE DENIAL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUES, I'VE FOUND A LAWYER OPENING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, AS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME ISSUE. I WAS HEARING A CLUNKING SOUND AND MY STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING ALOT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT MY INTERMEDIATE SHAFT IS BAD AND THAT IT IS DANGEROUS . HE SAID THE CONNECTION COULD BREAK AND I COULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE 2011, BUT MY VIN # IS NOT ONE OF THE CARS. MY VIN# MAY NOT BE ONE OF THE CARS IN THE BATCH RECALLED BUT I HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO REPAIR A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR? *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL NOISE COULD BE HEARD WHILE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
I BOUGHT MY SONATA NEW IN 2010 & HAVE JUST NOW IN 2015 PUT 56,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I WAS DRIVING & NOTICED A POPPING & GRINDING NOISE ANYTIME THE ROAD WASN'T SMOOTH & WHEN I WOULD TURN THE WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO BE CHECKED OUT & WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL. WHEN I CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE RECALL I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS EXHIBITING EVERY SIGN OF THE STEERING COUPLING RECALL I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED BECAUSE MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE MANUFACTURING DATES. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON 10/01/2010 & THE RECALL STOPPED ON 09/10/2010. I ASKED HOW THEY COULD BE SURE THAT EVERY CAR MANUFACTURED AFTER 09/10/2010 COULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED CORRECTLY WHEN THEY WERE STILL INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE ON THE DAY MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. NOW I WILL HAVE TO SPEND $300 FOR A REPAIR HYUNDAI SHOULD BE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I USE TO RECOMMEND HYUNDAI TO EVERYONE, I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND IT AGAIN OR PURCHASE ANOTHER HYUNDAI AGAIN. I WILL BE LOOKING INTO TRADING MY SONATA IN AFTER I HAVE THE STEERING COUPLING REPAIRED. *TR
CALLED HYUNDAI TO FIND OUT STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. EMPLOYEE THEN TOLD ME HE WASN'T SURE WHY A RECALL HASN'T BEEN ISSUED. HE WAS CURRENTLY WORKING ON A STEERING COLUMN FOR THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE. ENGINE HAS RECALL WAITING ON FINAL RESULTS. ENGINE STALLED AND IS LOUD.
I JUST PURCHASE THIS CAR AND MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES BAD. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI PLACE IN ALBANY GA AND THEY STATED IT WAS THE COUPLER. I HAVE READ A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PART AND MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WASN'T A RECALL CAUSE YOU CAN LOOSE YOUR LIFE WITH YOUR STEERING WHEEL NOT ASSEMBLED CORRECTLY OR A BETTER PART. IN ADDITION, WHEN DRIVING OVER 70 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHILE AT LOW SPEEDS I HEAR A LITTLE NOISE COMING FROM LEFT SIDE OF CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO PEP BOYS AND THEY SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE. FRONT STRUTS AND REAR SHOCKS AND SWAY BAR LINKS. NOW I NEED TO CHECK MY WARRANTY. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER WEIGHT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR FAILURE. DEALERSHIP SAYS THE ONLY WHY TO FIX IT IS TO REPLACE SEAT FOR 1800.00. DEALERSHIP CANNOT TELL ME IF SRS WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED. AFTER DOING SO RESEARCH ONLINE THIS LOOKS LIKE A BIG PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAL CARS THROUGHOUT MANY MODEL YEARS. HYUNDAI HAS FAILED TO REMIT THIS PROBLEM AND IS SELLING VEHICLES TO THE PUBLIC WITH FAULTY AIR BAG SYSTEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, A CLICKING SOUND WAS HEARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED SEVERELY AND THE CLICKING SOUND BECAME SEVERE. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT CONNECTOR WAS IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V457000(STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
AFTER 70,000 MILES MY SONATA SUDDENLY BEGAN TO PULL HARD TO THE LEFT. I HAD THE CAR ALIGNED TWICE THEREAFTER AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT THERE IS NOTHING BENT. IN A CALL TO A HYUNDAI MECHANIC FRIEND OF HIS, HE WAS ALERTED TO A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE. ISEARCHED THE WEB AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR BUT AS OF THIS DATE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT! IT IS QUITE A STRUGGLE TO KEEP THE CAR IN LANE PARTICULARLY ON THE HIGHWAY. IF I WERE TO LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL, I WOULD BE IN THE ON-COMING LANE IN A MATTER OF A FEW FEET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE BLOCK AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO LOW OIL IN THE CAR. AFTER ARGUING FOR 2 WEEKS WITH DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM (I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER) AND THE ONLY DEALER THAT HAS EVER SERVICED THE VEHICLE, THEY REPLACED THE SMALL ENGINE BLOCK, UNDER WARRANTY. TOOK 1 MONTH.
I HAVE NOTICED A GRADUALLY WORSENING RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES INTERMITTENTLY. IT HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY WHEN DRIVING 75MPH AND IT HAPPENS ON SURFACE STREETS DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. THE NOISE ALSO HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IDLE AND YOU MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE STEERING WHEEL ACTS AS IF IT IS CATCHING ON SOMETHING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE THAT IS REPORTED ON HYUNDAI SITES, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED ON THIS SITE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND SEE IF IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MERITS A RECALL.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD HIT A SMALL PIECE OF BLACK ICE AND LOST CONTROL COULDN'T RECOVER DUE TO EXCESSIVE PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. AFTER FILLING CLAIM AND GETTING CAR REPAIRED STEERING HAS GOT WORSE. DID RESARCH THERE IS A RECALL ON HYUNDAI SANATAS FOR THIS ISSUE BUT IS NOT COVERED ON MY CAR MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND ARE STILL NOT COVERED ON ANY RECALL.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLACKING SOUND EVERYTIME I MAKE A TURN, DRIVING THE CAR. THIS IS A HAZARD AND I AM AFRAID OF A CATASTROPHE WAITING TO HAPPEN EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE CAR.
WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE IT MAKES A LOUD CLACKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN AS YOU TURN AND WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE ROAD .
I TOOK CAR FOR SERVICING, WAS TOLD THE MDPS COUPLING IN THE STEERING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL. THE STEERING IS "LOOSE" AND NOT PRECISE. I WORRY THIS COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE PART SHOWN TO ME FROM ANOTHER CAR WAS PLASTIC AND HAD BEEN WORN DOWN. HYUNDAI SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THIS IS A PRETTY SERIOUS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE EXAMINED.

THE STEERING WHEEL /COLUMN CLICKS WHEN TURNING. TODAY, MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP VERIFIED MY CONCERN AND STATED "NOISE IS COMING FROM INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT $278 MAY NEED STEERING RACK AS WELL $1018.45...". THERE IS A RECALL ON 2011 SONATAS FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE (RECALL # 10V46000) FOR THOSE BUILT BETWEEN DECEMBER 11, 2009 AND SEPTEMBER 10, 2010. MINE WAS MANUFACTURED ON OCTOBER 22, 2010.... WHICH IS ONLY 6 WEEKS LATER. I AM HAVING THIS RELATIVELY UNCOMMON ISSUE ON A CAR THAT IS < 5 YEARS OLD AND < 62K MILES. HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE THAT MY CAR HAS HAD TWO STEERING COLUMN ISSUES IN ~ 4 MONTHS? THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE! I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT AT 59K, I HAD MY STEERING COLUMN REPAIRED (REPLACE WORN COUPLER IN STEERING COLUMN). LUCKILY IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE 60K WARRANTY. THIS NEW ISSUE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT ONE, EXCEPT I'M NOW >60K MILES --- OUT OF WARRANTY). AS A MATTER-OF-FACT, MY INITIAL COMPLAINT TODAY WAS THAT THE OLD PROBLEM RESURFACED. AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE DEALERSHIP 1 YEAR SERVICE WARRANTY, SINCE IT OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT INSPECTED/REPAIRED COMPLETELY. MORE IMPORTANTLY, ON A HIGHER LEVEL, WHY IS THIS EVEN HAPPENING, ESPECIALLY SINCE I AM ONLY OUT OF THE RECALL RANGE BY 6 WEEKS? CAR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD NOISE TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS ENGINE FAILURE - WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ENGINE AT A COST OF $7,000. TOWED IT TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR SECOND OPINION WHO SAID - MAY BE ABLE TO JUST REPAIR PISTON AND NOT ENTIRE MOTOR - COST COULD BE UP TO $3-4000. VEHICLE NOW SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY - UNUSABLE - CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED - STILL PAYING ON LOAN. *TR
WENT TO LAKELAND AUTOMALL WHICH IS A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO GET SOME RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. UPON ARRIVAL I GAVE THEM SOME RECALL PAPERWORK IN WHICH THEY REFUSED TO LOOK AT AND SAID THAT THEY HAVE IT IN THEIR DATABASE. THE RECALL THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE "STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION" WAS NOT COMPLETE. WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK I CHECKED MY BRAKE LIGHTS AND THEY DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. I TOLD THEM THAT WHEN I DRIVE IN CRUISE CONTROL MY CAR RELEASES IT AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ILLUMINATED AND MY ESC CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. ALSO ON OCASSION ONE OF MY TAIL BRAKE LIGHTS WORK BUT NOT THE OTHER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY FIXED THIS PROBLEM LAST APRIL OF 2014 BUT APPARANTLY THE SAME PROBLEM IS REPLICATING. THEY THEN TOLD ME IT NEEDED A WHOLE TAILIGHT ASSEMBLY. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 2/14/15 AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN DUE TO TRAFFIC. AS I SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, MY CAR DIED. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT MY STARTER HAD GONE BAD ON 2/14/15. I WAITED TO HEAR BACK ON MONDAY, 2/16/15 THAT THEY HAD FIXED THE STARTER, BUT INSTEAD THEY CALLED AND STATED THAT MY ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND I WOULD NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW ENGINE FOR $5600 (INCLUDING LABOR). I MADE REGULAR OIL CHANGES (I WAS NOT EXACTLY 8,000 MILES FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE THOUGH), I COMPLETED ALL RECALL REQUIREMENTS, I HAD MY OIL PAN REPLACED DEC 2013, I HAD THE CAR LOOKED OVER 100% DEC 2013 AND IT WAS FOUND TO BE IN GREAT WORKING CONDITION, & MY ENGINE ACTUALLY TURNED OVER WHEN IT DIED ON 2/14/15, SO THE STARTER MADE SENSE. I DID SOME RESEARCH, AND IT APPEARS THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR ~ 30 INCIDENTS WHERE THE HYUNDAI ENGINE SEIZED ON THIS YEAR, MAKE, & MODEL. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR AN ENGINE THAT IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH NOW, WHEN AN ENGINE SHOULD NOT SEIZE UP AFTER ONLY 120,000 MILES WHEN TAKEN CARE OF PROPERLY. THE FACT THAT IT STOPPED WHILE I WAS STILL DRIVING IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN A WRECK. I PURCHASED THE CAR ON 10/22/13 AND I HAVE KEPT THE MAINTENANCE UP ON THE CAR. THEN ON 2/13/15 (NOT TO MENTION THAT IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY) AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE CAR CUT OFF ON ME. SO I BELIEVE IS STILL PART OF SAME PROBLEM INSIDE STEERING COLUMN. SAD PART THERE IS RECALL FOR 2011 SONATA SE/LIMITED FOR SAME STEERING PROBLEM BUT FOR SOME REASON MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF RECALL. I WAS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE 2ND TO LEFT LANE ABOUT 70 MPH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I PUSHED IT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES, NO PRESSURE, NO CONTROL AND OBVIOUSLY SLOWED DOWN. I MOVED OVER TO GET TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO STOP AND SEE WHAT IS THE ISSUE, LUCKILY THE BRAKES WORKED, BUT MANY CARS WERE DODGING ME TRYING NOT TO HIT ME. I DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT SURE CLOSE TO BEING IN ONE AND HIGH SPEEDS. FRIGHTENING TO SAY THE LEAST. I DID MAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND COME TO FIND IT IS AN EMISSION PART THAT FAILED THAT CAUSED THE CAR NOT TO ACCELERATE. I DID GET IT FIXED BUT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND PAST THE FEDERAL EMISSION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM OF 8 YEARS OR 80K MILES. I HAD ABOUT 80,200-500 MILES ON THE CAR. COINCIDENCE, DON'T KNOW, I AM STILL CONCERNED DRIVING THE CAR, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN! I AM JUST GLAD I DIDN'T GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I DIDN'T GET REIMBURSED FOR THE PART THAT COST $1,500. BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED KNOWING THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE WITH EMISSION CONTROLS BY THE COMPUTER IN YOUR CAR. I TRIED TO BE PROACTIVE THEREFORE THE POST COMPLAINT FOR OTHERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
WAS TAKING LEFT HAND TURN ON MAJOR ROAD, AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS LIT UP INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE JUST DIED. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I POPPED THE HOOD AND SAW SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE, SO CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WASN'T ANY ON THE DIPSTICK. HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE VEHICLE TAKEN BACK TO THE LAST PLACE I HAD THE OIL CHANGED. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE IT FOR $7000. NO CHECK OIL ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALWAYS HAD OIL CHANGED ON REGULAR BASIS, BECAUSE I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING FOR WORK. *TR

THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND I HAVE NOTICED THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHER CARS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN TRAVELLING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY. NO, IT DOESN'T NEED AN ALIGNMENT.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE. NO LESS THAN 30 SECONDS LATER DID THE CAR'S ENGINE MAKE A LARGE BAG NOISE AND I RAN OVER WHAT FELT LIKE PARTS. I COASTED A WHILE DOWN THE ROAD AND FINALLY PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON OPENING THE HOOD I DISCOVERED OIL ALL OVER THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AS WELL AS THE RADIATOR. I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FAULKNER HYUNDAI IN HARRISBURG PA ON 1/19/14. THEY PROVIDED A SERVICE LOANER AND SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITH AN UPDATE ON THE CAR. I WAITED UNTIL WEDNESDAY THE 21ST BEFORE CALLING THEM, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND THEY HAD ALREADY TAKEN PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE AND SENT THEM TO THE HYUNDAI PEOPLE TO SEEK WARRANTY COVERAGE. THEY ALSO ASKED ME FOR MAINTENANCE RECORDS ON THE CAR. I CHANGE THE OIL MYSELF AND ALWAYS PUT IN FULL SYNTHETIC, SO THEY HAD ME SUBMIT RECEIPTS FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE PROVING I BOUGHT OIL AND FILTERS OR THE SONATA. I AM NOW AWAITING RESOLUTION FROM HYUNDAI. WILL UPDATE ONCE I HAVE AN ANSWER FROM HYUNDAI. THIS IS A PRETTY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, THE ENGINE LET GO AT 60+MPH WITHOUT WARNING, WHEN IT LET GO IT BLEW OIL ALL OVER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND I'M SURE ON THE ROAD AS WELL. THIS VEHICLES STEERING COLUMN SHAKES, RATTLES, AND POPS WHILE DRIVING, TURNING, ETC.. I HAVE HAD TO ALSO REPLACE 4 FRONT TIRES AND SEVERAL FRONT END ALIGNMENTS WITHIN A YEARS TIME FRAME. THE TIRE COUPLES INSIDE EVERY TIME I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FROM ABNORMAL WEAR AND WIRES ARE VISIBLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES. WHEN I REACH 55-60 MPH THE WHOLE FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY, AND AS STATED FRONT END ALIGNMENTS DO NOT LAST LONG.
THE ENGINE IS KNOCKING WHEN I START TO DRIVE AND THE KNOCKING SOUND HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED. I HAVE TO PUT 1-2QTS OF ADDITIONAL OIL INTO THE CAR IN BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES. *TR

AS TIME WENT ON, I FELT/HEARD A "CLUNCKING" SOUND IN THE FIRST INCH OF WHEEL TURN AT SLOW SPEEDS AND PLAY IN THE WHEEL AT CRUISE SPEEDS. I DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL I CHECKED SAFECAR FOR COMPLAINTS FOR MY MODEL CAR. WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN MORE "SLOPPY" AND A LOUD THUD OR RATTLE IS HEARD/FELT SOMEWHERE LOWER IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN I HIT A RUT IN THE ROAD OR DRIVE ON A BUMPY ROAD, RAILROAD TRACKS, ETC. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED BY OTHER OWNERS AND THE PREVIOUS RECALL FOR MODELS PRIOR TO 2011/2010. I AM 58 YEARS OLD, AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY CAR I OWNED. I AM PARTICULAR CONCERNED THAT HYUNDAI ALREADY HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND CONTINUED TO USE A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM/PARTS IN LATER MODELS. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID MY CAR IS NOT ONE THE 100,000 VIN NUMBERS THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL ALTHOUGH MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH WHAT IS IN THE RECALL. THE MAIN ISSUE IS THEY ARE ONLY FULFILLING THE RECALL TO A SMALL AMOUNT OF SONATAS MADE AT A SPECIFIC FACTORY WHEN THEY ARE MANY OTHER CARS WITH THIS DEFECT. HYUNDAI IS CHARGING OVER $300 FOR THE REPAIR. AS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR IT IS GETTING MORE LOOSE AND COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN MY ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND WITHIN 10 SECONDS MY CAR STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS STILL MOVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO COAST TO A CLOSE BY SIDE ROAD. I AM GRAVELY CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHER SPEEDS, AND THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF SUCH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER, AND THEY TELL ME THE ENGINE IS SHOT. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE, AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT." AFTER MORE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS ENGINE FAILURE. IF THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, I FEEL HYUNDAI SHOULD DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. PLEASE NOTE I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. THE MILEAGE AT JUST OVER 85,000 IS MAINLY HIGHWAY MILES, AND THE CAR IS SERVICED REGULARLY.
