ONE MORNING WHEN GETTING READY TO GO TO WORK, I TRIED TO START MY 2011 SONATA. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE, WHICH WAS VERY HARD, PUSHED THE BUTTON BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE LIGHTS, RADIO AND AIR CONDITIONER WOULD ALL COME ON BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THE GEAR SHIFT COULD NOT BE MOVED. I ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE NEXT 10 MINUTES TO START THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE. MY HUSBAND TRIED PUTTING JUMPER CABLES ON THE BATTERY TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT START. I WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN BUT THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT START. FINALLY AFTER ALMOST 20 MINUTES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS EASY TO PUSH ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED. IT CAUSED ME TO BE LATE TO WORK BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER OCCURRENCE UNTIL ABOUT A WEEK LATER WHEN I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR SOME TIME AND STOPPED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND ONCE AGAIN THE BRAKE WAS VERY HARD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE NEXT 10 MINUTES, IT FINALLY STARTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE LEFT. THERE WAS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V457000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR) RECALL THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF FINDING OUT IF HIS VIN WAS A PART OF THE RECALL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STRUT, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR, IT HAS AN ANNOYING AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PULL TO THE LEFT. SOMETIMES IT PULLS MORE THAN OTHERS BUT IT'S ALWAYS PRESENT TO SOME EXTENT. *KB
THE CAR HAS BEEN NOISY SINCE DAY 1. DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT ABNORMAL. TIRE DEALER SAID THEY SAW NO PROBLEM, EXCEPT IT APPEARED THAT THE TIRES WERE FEATHERING. ON CERTAIN TYPE ROADS, THE CAR IS JUST DARNED TOO NOISY. I BELIEVE IT TO BE THE KUMHO, 17" TIRES THAT THE LIMITED MODEL COMES EQUIPPED WITH. I HAVE ALMOST 8,000 MILES ON IT, NOW, SINCE BOUGHT NEW IN APRIL, AND IT IS NOT GETTING ANY BETTER, ONLY WORSE. UNENDURABLE, ACTUALLY. *TT
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA FAILED TO START. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE KEY LIGHT WAS LIT ON THE DASH PANEL. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES AND PRESS BRAKE PEDAL WAS SCREAMING AT ME AS I PRESSED THE DARN THING. TRIED THE KEY BOB IN THE SLOT IN THE STORAGE AREA AND SAME RESULT. GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CLOSED AND LOCKED THE DOORS. BACK IN AND TRIED AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULTS. CALLED MY NEXT CUSTOMER AND TOLD THEM I WOULD BE LATE AS MY CAR WOULD NOT START. FINALLY AFTER 20 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED WITH THE BOB IN THE STORAGE AREA. WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER -THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. *TR
NEW HYUNDAI SONATA STEERING ISSUE WHERE CAR PULLS STRONGLY AND CONTINUOUS TO THE LEFT. SO FAR TWO SERVICE VISITS TO PUGI HYUNDAI IN DOWNERS GROVE, IL HAVE NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE. HYUNDAI HAS REPLACED A STRUT AND ALIGNED. *TR
BEFORE AND AFTER A DEALER COMPLETED ALIGNMENT, THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNS PAST CENTER AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN. IT ALSO PULLS LEFT WHEN NEW AND AFTER ANY CORRECTION. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AT HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE ENGINE LOST MOST OF ITS POWER. CHECK ENGINE AND ESC (TRACTION CONTROL) LIGHT WERE ON. RESTART THE ENGINE APPEARED TO RESOLVE THE LOST POWER PROBLEM BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE STILL ON. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN THREE WEEKS WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND WAS QUITE DANGEROUS. DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE.
2011 SONATA PULLS HARD LEFT. *TR
A FEW TIMES I HAVE NEARLY HAD ACCIDENTS, INVOLVING BOTH CARS AND PEOPLE BECAUSE THE HORN CANNOT BE HEARD! I THINK A HORN IS A SAFETY DEVICE, TO WARN OTHERS, BUT THIS ONE CANNOT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS FROM A MOTOR SCOOTER. UNFORTUNATELY, SOMEONE WILL PROBABLY END UP BEING HIT, INJURED OR EVEN KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. I HAVE HEARD THAT HYUNDAI, IN EFFECT, ADMITTED THE PROBLEM BY RE-DESIGNING THE HORN ON LATER 2011 MODEL YEAR CARS. ALL CARS SHOULD GET THE NEW HORN. THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT HAPPENS EVERYTIME SOMEONE PULLS OR WALKS OUT IN FRONT OF ME AT THE LAST SECOND, AND I AM UNABLE TO PROPERLY WARN THEM WITH THE HORN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 SONATA, AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE THIRD TIME...GOING TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY CAN LOCATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, SHE TOOK ONE HAND OFF THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGIN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT ALLOWED ANOTHER DRIVER TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A ALIGNMENT AND THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH 2011. INAPRIL,2011 THE FRONT BUMPER CAME OFF THE CLIP AND I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BUMPER AT COST OF $ 1000. SUBSEQUENTLY, THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF FRONT BUMPER. THE CAR IS DESIGNED WITH FRONT END VERY LOW AND THE BUMPER IS HOLD BY A SINGLE CLIP WHICH MAKES IT EASIER FOR IT TO COME OFF EVEN WHEN CAR IS BEING PARKED AND IF IT HITS PARKING CEMENT MARKER. HYUNDAI DEALER REFUSES TO FIX PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY AND SO FAR I HAVE SPENT $3000. *TR
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2.0T PULLS TO THE LEFT EVEN WHEN DRIVER STEERS TO THE RIGHT. ON A FLAT SURFACE, THIS VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE LEFT AND IF NOT CORRECTED WILL CROSS INTO ANOTHER LANE WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO. MY VEHICLE IS 2 WEEKS OLD AND HAS HAD THE ISSUE FROM THE BEGINNING. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT RE-ALIGNED THE VEHICLE AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE YET TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR RE-INSPECTION. THIS ISSUE IS CONSTANT FROM THE MOMENT I APPLY POWER TO THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE VEHICLE COMES TO A REST. I TESTED THIS BY CROSSING INTO THE RIGHT LANE ON THE HIGHWAY AND BRIEFLY LETTING GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL; THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE LEFT LANE ON ITS OWN. *TR
NEW 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA STEERING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE FEELS VERY UNSTABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DRIVER MUST CONSTANTLY FIGHT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN LANE. AT A MINIMUM IT IS DISTRACTING. 2011 SONATA SE. WILL NOT START. WARNING LIGHT INDICATES KEY NOT PRESENT OR PRESS BRAKE TO START. WHEN PRESSING BRAKE, PEDAL IS "STIFF". TRIED EMERGENCY KEY RESET PROCEDURE PER OWNER'S MANUAL. NO LUCK. WAIT 30 MINUTES, HEARD RELAY IN DASH CLICK, AND CAR RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. 3RD TIME OCCURRED. NOTICED I HAD PULLED INTO PARKING SPACE BY TRUNING HARD RIGHT PRIOR TO SHUT OFF. ALSO, MY WIFE HAD OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR AND CLIMBED IN PRIOR TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR BEING OPENED (POSSIBLE ALARM SYSTEM PROBLEM?) NO WARNING. DEALER IS STUMPED. MANY OTHERS HAVE SAME EXACT ISSUE. SUSPECT EITHER COMPUTER OR SENSOR PROBLEM. OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSE, ISSUE WITH THE ALARM SYSTEM WHEN TEH PASSENGER DOOR IS OPENED WHILE CAR IS LOCKED. CAR WAITS UNTIL AFTER A TIME RESET TO INITIALIZE THE RELAY AGAIN.... MILAGE 13,600. *TR

2011 HYUNDAI SONATA LEFT PULL ISSUE. I MUST APPLY A PRESSURE TO KEEP THE CAR GOING STRAIGHT ON A FLAT/STRAIGHT HIGHWAY. THIS YOUTUBE CLIP IS AN EXCELLENT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I SEE. THERE IS A SMELL OF GAS/ENGINE FUMES NOTABLE IN THE VEHICLE ON OCCASION. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY, HOWEVER THERE ARE SOME COMMON FACTORS TO WHEN THE SMELL IN NOTICEABLE. THESE FACTORS INCLUDE: 1) THE ENGINE MUST BE HOT, GENERALLY HAVING BEEN DRIVEN FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES OR MORE. THE SMELL IS NEVER NOTICEABLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD, SUCH AS AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. 2) THE VEHICLE MUST BE EITHER MOVING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS OF <25 M.P.H., OR SITTING STILL. EXAMPLES WOULD INCLUDE DRIVING THROUGH PARKING LOTS, SITTING AT AN IDLE FOR A LONG PERIOD AT A STOP LIGHT, WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE AFTER SITTING IN A PARKING LOT FOR AWHILE, ETC. 3) WHEN THE GAS / FUME SMELL IS NOTABLE WITH GREATEST INTENSITY, IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER A HOT ENGINE SOAK OF 15~45 MINUTES AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES OF 30 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OR ABOVE AND IN CONDITIONS OF MODERATE- TO HIGH-HUMIDITY. EXAMPLES INCLUDE DURING PERIODS OF HEAVY FOG, RAINY DAYS, SNOWSTORMS, ETC. ON OCCASION, THE SMELL IS STRONG ENOUGH THAT IT IS NO LONGER COMFORTABLE TO REMAIN IN THE VEHICLE. ROLLING DOWN A WINDOW AT SPEEDS >25 M.P.H. TO CLEAR OUT THE CABIN AIR, FOLLOWED BY ACTIVATING THE HVAC RECIRCULATION BUTTON WILL LESSENS IMMEDIATE RECURRENCE THE SMELL TO SOME EXTENT. FINDING WAYS TO "MASK" THE SMELL ARE OF LESSER CONCERN THAN DETERMINING WHY THE SMELL EXISTS IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR THIS CONCERN TWICE, WITH NEITHER TRIP TO THE SERVICE BAY HAVING RESOLVED THE CONCERN. WHILE IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISSUE CAUSING IMMEDIATE DANGER (NO NOTICEABLE FUEL LEAKS OR SIGNS OF FIRE), THE SMELL OF GAS AND ENGINE FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER CABIN IS A BIT CONCERNING, BOTH FROM A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IN THE FUTURE, AND/OR EXPOSURE TO CARBON DIOXIDE AND OTHER NOXIOUS FUMES WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I WILL RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR A THIRD VISIT TO RESOLVE THIS CONCERN. *TR
I AGREE WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FUEL FUMES. MY HUSBAND HAD MENTIONED TO ME WHILE I WAS WARMING MY CAR THAT THE SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE WAS VERY STRONG. I THEN BEGIN TO NOTICE FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THOUGHT I WAS JUST IMAGING THINGS. THE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION NEED TO LOOK INTO TO THESE COMPLAINTS BEFORE SOMEONE GET KILLED. I GET SICK AND TIRED OF GOING TO THE DEALERS AND THEY CLAIM NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. HYUNDAI NEED TO WAKE UP AND LOOK INTO THESE COMPLAINTS. *TR
THE SUN VISORS ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH (VERTICALLY) TO PREVENT THE SUN FROM HITTING CENTER OF WINDSHIELD AREA AND BLINDING DRIVER. I'VE HAD TO STOP SEVERAL TIMES TO REGAIN MY CONTROL AND MY CLEAR VIEW. THE CAR WAS PURCHASE ON 12/19/10 AND AT THE TIME I NOTICED THAT THE SUN SHIELD THAT THEY SOLD ME AT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HARDLY STAY IN PLACE BECAUSE OF THE VERTICAL SHORTNESS OF THE SUN VISORS BUT WHEN THE HOUR WAS CHANGED TO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME IS WHEN I REALLY REALIZED THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF THE SUNSET. EVEN RAISING THE DRIVER'S SEAT ALL THE WAY UP IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID BEING BLINDED BY THE SUN; IT'S AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE CONSUMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF HYUNDAI BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VEER TOWARDS THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REALIGNED YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ONCE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD INDEPENDENTLY TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AS IF SHE HAD REMOVED HER HANDS FROM THE WHEEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V426000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,077. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 05/13/11 *BF UPDATED 2/8/12 *CN
WHEN I RETURNED HOME FROM WORK AND CLOSED THE DRIVER DOOR THE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND EXPLODED OUTWARD. IT WAS 7P AND HYUNDAI WAS CLOSED, HAD SAFELITE EMERGENCY REPLACE WINDSHIELD AND THEY CONFIRMED IT DID NOT BREAK FROM AN IMPACT BUT FROM STRESS DUE TO A BAD FACTORY INSTALL. HYUNDAI REFUSED WARRANTY REIMBURSEMENT CLAIMING IT CANNOT BE PROVEN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER THE WINDSHIELD WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA TURBO ON FEBRUARY 19, 2011 AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THIS VEHICLE PULLS VERY HARD TO THE LEFT, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CONSTANT PRESSURE TO THE RIGHT ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS NECESSARY TO KEEP THIS CAR ON THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP (GLASSMAN HYUNDAI, SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN) FOR A FRONT-END ALIGNMENT ON 2 OCCASIONS. THIS HELPS FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 DAYS AND THE PROBLEM RETURNS. I'VE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE NO MENTION OF THIS WAS MADE BY THE SALESPERSON. *TR
CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT SINCE BRAND NEW. VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED FOR A LENGTH OF TIME. CONSTANT RIGHT PRESSURE MUST BE MAINTAINED ON STEERING WHEEL TO PREVENT CAR FROM MOVING TO THE LEFT. AT A SLOW SPEED ON BACK ROADS THE PULL IS NOT THAT NOTICEABLE. FOR SOME REASON, WHEN TAKING A RIGHT TURN OFF A HIGHWAY RAMP, THE LEFT PULL INCREASES, WHICH REQUIRES INCREASED RIGHT PRESSURE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HAVE HAD CAR CHECKED AT DEALER, ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED, AND TOLD EVERYTHING IS FINE. RESEARCHING THE HYUNDAI FORUMS, IT APPEARS MY SONATA IS NOT THE ONLY CAR EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM, AND AS OF THIS DATE, HYUNDAI/KIA HAVE NO FIX, OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR IS A PROBLEM.
CAR PULLS LEFT FROM MOMENT DRIVEN OFF LOT. WHEN RELEASE STEERING WHEELS IT MOVES FROM CENTER TO LEFT AND THEN CAR RAPIDLY MOVES LEFT. CONSTANT PRESSURE IS REQUIRED ON RIGHT SIDE OF STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE MOVEMENT NOT AS BAD WHEN PASSENGER IN CAR. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER FOR ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING. WHEN THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM A COMPANY ENGINEER CAME TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHO DROVE IT AND PRONOUNCED IT FIXED. NOTHING HAD CHANGED IT STILL PULLED AS HARD LEFT AS BEFORE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TEST DROVE IT WITH THE MECHANIC WHO HAD WORKED ON THE CAR. WITH ME IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE CAR DRIFTED RIGHT (I OUTWEIGH THE MECHANIC BY 100 POUNDS). MECHANIC TOLD ME HE WAS FRUSTRATED BY THESE CARS, ALL THE TURBOS WITH 18 INCH WHEELS PULL LEFT. HE THINKS IT IS EITHER THE WHEELS SIZE SINCE SONATA'S EQUIPPED WITH SMALLER WHEELS DON'T PULL OR THE POWER STEERING ASSIST NEEDS ADJUSTING. HYUNDAI IS DENYING PROBLEM EXISTS. *TR
MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA VEERS TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE TO KEEP MORE PRESSURE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR THREE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BE FIXED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAR STEERING GOES SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT BUT WAS NOT GUARANTEED THAT IT COULD BE FIXED. *KB
I HAVE A 2011 SONATA LIMITED. EARLIER THIS YEAR I BEGAN HAVING A STARTING ISSUE WHERE THE CAR WOULD SAY "APPLY BRAKE PEDAL TO START" EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE. TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE SO I JUST KEPT ON WORKING AROUND IT. IN JUNE, IT GOT WORSE SO I TOOK IT BACK, SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ORDERED A BRAKE SWITCH AND NEW PUSH BUTTON IGNITION ON JUNE 20TH OR THEREABOUTS. THE PARTS FINALLY ARRIVED ON AUGUST 17TH..YES..IT TOOK THAT LONG APPARENTLY. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF THAT MORNING AND WENT BACK THAT AFTERNOON AROUND 5. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AND PUSH BUTTON BUT WHEN THEY WENT TO TEST DRIVE, THEY LOST STEERING CONTROL AND THE EPS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM HAD FAILED. THEY TOOK A PART OFF A NEW SONATA IN THEIR LOT AND PUT IT ON MY CAR BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER 2 DAYS OF TROUBLESHOOTING THEY MANAGED TO CORRECT THAT ISSUE BUT AS SOON AS THEY DID, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND IT STATED THE ABS SYSTEM HAD FAILED TOO. I AM NOW WAITING ON A PART FOR THE ABS AS OF 8/22. NONE OF THESE SYSTEMS HAD ISSUES PRIOR TO THE DROP OFF DATE. THIS CONCERNS ME THAT THERE MAY BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. WE WILL SEE WHEN THEY REPLACE THE ABS MODULE IF SOMETHING ELSE GOES WRONG. *TR
FAILED COMPONENTS: BRAKES & SHIFT GEAR THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT WORKING MOST OF THE TIME WHEN SHIFTING THE GEAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE MODE (FOLLOWED BY REVERSE MODE) I NEED TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD UP TO SEVERAL TIMES TO SHIFT THE GEAR. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND IT WORKS FINE FOR TWO DAYS. IT STARTED HAPPENING AFTER TWO FIRST SERVICES TO THE VEHICLE BY DEALER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE AGAIN TO DEALER AFTER 1 WEEK AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AGAIN. THEY DID SOME TROUBLESHOOTING AGAIN, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM THIS TIME. I SPOKE WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO ANOTHER DEALER AND ASKED ME TO DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND SUGGESTED THAT I UNLOCK THE "SHIFT LOCK" IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES! I TOLD THEM THAT SHIFT LOCK IS ONLY USEFUL IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES. BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT RELEASING THE GEAR MOST OF THE TIME WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THERE IS NO ANSWER FROM THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE PULLS STRONGLY TO THE LEFT. A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED CASE OF A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ABNORMALLY PULL TO THE LEFT WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT BUT DID NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THEY STATED THAT THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE STRUT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WERE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THE DEALERS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,350 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,400. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STRUT WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. UPDATED 05/31/11
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA HAS FAILED TWICE. THERE IS A SOLENOID PROBLEM. FIRST TIME IT BLEW 2 SOLENOIDS @ 1,400 MILES, FELT LIKE I HIT A CINDER BLOCK THE 2ND TIME @ 2,700 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION BLEW OUT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. DEALER ADVISES MULTIPLE 2011 SONATA'S COMING IN WITH SOLENOID ISSUES. *TR
UPON IMMEDIATELY DRIVING MY BRAND NEW 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE PULLS DRASTICALLY AND UNSAFELY TO THE LEFT. IF I LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL, I WILL BE IN THE NEXT LANE WITHIN 2 SECONDS. IT IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF THE ROAD IS CURVING TO THE RIGHT. THEN I WILL BE IN THE NEXT LANE IN LESS THAN 1 SECOND. HAVE BROUGHT IT TO DEALER 3 TIMES, THEY CHANGED TIRES, REPLACED STRUT, REALIGNED, AND DID A SPECIAL WHEEL BALANCE, TO NO AVAIL. THEY SEND A FACTORY ENGINEER TO LOOK AT IT AND HE SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. HE IS LYING. I SENT VIDEO TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE, AND FILED A LEMON LAW CLAIM. I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN AREA MANAGER DRIVE IT WITH ME THIS WEEK.. I HAVE OWNER SEVERAL NEW CARS IN MY LIFE , THIS IS DANGEROUS A RECALL IS NEEDED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SENSOR. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO START ON ONE OCCASION AND THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE GROUND CABLE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE GROUND CABLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS OPEN AND COULD NOT BE CLOSED. THE WINDOW FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,000.
OFF THE LOT OUR NEW 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED TURBO CONSTANTLY PULLED TO THE LEFT. WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE DEALER ORIGINALLY REPORTED A "BULLETIN" ON THE FRONT STRUTS AND REPLACED THE LEFT ONE. AFTER THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AN "ALL-WHEEL-ALIGNMENT". NO BETTER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED DRIVING FOR 1K MILES TO SEE IF IT RESOLVED ITSELF----THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT FOR THE SECOND TIME ON 3/17/2011 AND RE-OPENED THE "CASE NUMBER". THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CONSULTED WITH HYUNDAI'S REGIONAL ENGINEERS AND SUBSEQUENTLY PERFORMED A RECALIBRATING OF THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE ON 3/24/2011. THE CAR NOW DRIVES PERFECTLY. NO MORE PULLING TO THE LEFT. HALLELUJAH!! THANKS TO GOOD FOLKS AT HYUNDAI, LOCALLY AND REGIONALLY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000.

VEHICLE WILL PULL SHARPLY TO THE LEFT AND CHANGE LANES IN APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS OR LESS. VEHICLE NEEDS A CONSTANT AND FORCEFUL PRESSURE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT OF CENTER TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT TRACK AND NOT VEER LEFT. THIS PULL WAS EVIDENT IMMEDIATELY. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW WITH APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES ON IT, AND PULL WAS EVIDENT IMMEDIATELY. AS OF THIS TIME, REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN ATTEMPTED. *TR
