The fuel tank skid plate is rotting away, this could cause the tank tank to fall out of the vehicle, this looks like a very common problem with a number of jeeps and dodge products.
ON CHRISTMAS I BACKED THE JEEP OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY SO I COULD DRIVE MY TRUCK. BUMPED THE CURB SLIGHTLY WHILE PARKING AND VEHICLE DIED. STARTED RIGHT BACK UP SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. TODAY MY WIFE TOOK THE KIDS TO SCHOOL IN IT AND RAN FINE. PARKED FOR TWO HOURS AND WENT TO START AND IT WILL CRANK BUT NOT TURN OVER. FUEL GAUGE DOESN'T READ CORRECTLY. AT FULL IT SAYS HALF A TANK AND WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT MAY DROP TO BELOW EMPTY WITH A FULL TANK. I HAVE BEEN READING ALL THE REPORTS ABOUT THE 2006 COMMANDER AND A LOT OF PEOPLE SEEM TO BE HAVING THIS STARTING PROBLEM. I HAUL MY FAMILY AROUND IN IT BECAUSE WE CAN'T ALL FIT IN MY TRUCK BUT I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GONNA CUT OUT AND DIE. MY KIDS RANGE FROM 1 WEEK TO 11 AND I DON'T REALLY WANT THEM IN IT. I'M THINKING IT A FUEL PUMP OR WIRING ISSUE. BOTH ISSUES OCCURRED IN MY DRIVEWAY OR RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. *TR
MAY 29TH, 1026, WHILE DRIVING ALONG I-80 IN NORTH PLATTE, NEBRASKA THE JEEP SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED ON ME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I COULD NOT GET THE JEEP UNDER CONTROL, RAN OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A HIGHWAY SIGN BEFORE GETTING CONTROL. ONE WITNESS EVEN STATED THAT IT LOOKED AS IF THE JEEP "JUST TOOK OFF". BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH IRREGULAR RMPS AND NOW THIS. WHY THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH LOSS OF CONTROL?

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4.7L V8 STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. MULTIPLE INSTANCES (OVER 12) BETWEEN THE FIRST OCCURRENCE APPROXIMATELY MID DECEMBER 2013 AND TODAY 11 JANUARY 2014. ALL STALLS HAPPENED WHEN COMING TO A STOP EXCEPT FOR ONE INSTANCE WHEN IT STALLED WHILE IN REVERSE. A DROP IN RMPS AND LIGHTING/INSTRUMENT FAILURE ACCOMPANIES THE STALL. CHRYSLER'S RECALL N32 WAS COMPLETED OCTOBER 2013. VEHICLE HAS BEEN OWNED SINCE EARLY 2011 WITH NO STALLING OF THIS TYPE HAVING OCCURRED PRIOR TO THIS. NO INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATION (E.G. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) ACCOMPANIES THE STALL. VEHICLE RESTARTED ON ALL OCCASIONS AFTER SHIFTING TO PARK OR NEUTRAL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X4 (NA). WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS CRACKED. 2006 JEEP COMMANDER HESITATES WHEN MAKING A TURN. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, BUT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE FOR THIS PROBLEM. A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THE DEALERS SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING HIT WHILE PULLING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
I WAS EXITING I65 S TO I85 NORTH AT 40 MPH AS I CAME OUT OF THE RAMP THE ENGINE STALLED. THE IGNITION SWITCH AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS AND GAUGES CONTINUED TO READ ACCURATELY. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED ,AND RAN NORMALLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD SITUATION IF THERE HAD BEEN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THE JEEP WAS DUE FOR ITS FIRST SERVICE TRIP, SO IT WENT TO THE DEALER ON MAY 9, 2007. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER ,WHO REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AS IT WENT INTO THE SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE FELT HE HAD STRUCK THE KEY WHILE MOVING THE VEHICLE AND THIS CAUSED THE STALLING. THIS COULD BE TRUE. HOWEVER, I AM ONLY 5' 3" TALL AND EVEN IF I HAD THE SEAT ALL OF THE WAY FORWARD WITH THE FRONT OF THE SEAT ADJUSTED ALL OF THE WAY UP, IT WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE KNEE TO HIT THE KEY. THESE TWO INCIDENTS WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED, BUT I FELT THERE WAS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. *AK
