THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES NOW, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS A DING ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE CAR STALLS, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ONCE YOU SHUT DOWN THE CAR AND START IT AGAIN THE CAR WORKS FINE BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, ACCORDING TO JEEP THEY CHARGE FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND I SEE ONLINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT IN MY TYPE OF VEHICLE BUT JEEP HAS YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I THINK IT IS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY WHERE PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AS FAST OR FASTER THAN ME AND COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM.
THE PROBLEM STARTED IN JANUARY 2019. THE VEHICLE STARTED HAVING IDLING ISSUES, COLD START IN MORNING IDLES AROUND 900, WHEN PUT IN REVERSE IT DIPS TO AROUND 500 AND WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH WHILE BACKING UP, PUT IN DRIVE AND IT WOULD BE OK BUT WOULD STALL SOMETIMES AT STOP SIGN- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I HAD THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE DONE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SAME DAY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR RECALLS AND THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ALSO. IT DROVE OK FOR A DAY AND I HAVE THE UNSTABLE IDLE BACK AND THE RPM JUMPS UP WHILE IN DRIVE BUT STOPPED AT A LIGHT. ABOUT A WEEK AGO I AM SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A LIGHT AHEAD AND IT STARTS VIBRATING LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL AND THE ETC AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND I SHUT IT OFF AND IT CRANKED RIGHT BACK UP AND DROVE IT THE REST OF THE DAY WITH NO ISSUE. ETC LIGHT WILL COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE NO ISSUES OTHER THAN THE UNSTABLE IDLE. TODAY-5-10-19, COMING HOME AND START TO TURN LEFT AND ETC AND TCS LIGHT COME ON AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS IN LIMP MODE BECAUSE THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER AND ETC LIGHT IS NOW BLINKING, SO I PULL IN A PARKING LOT, CUT IT OFF FOR FIVE MINUTES AND IT CRANKS RIGHT BACK UP WITH NO LIGHTS ON AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE 5 MILES HOME.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (TWIN CITY DODGE CHRYSLER, 650 SAGAMORE PKWY S, LAFAYETTE, IN 47905) AND WAS INFORMED TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,197.
THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS PULLING OUT INTO BUSY TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE STREET. I ACCELERATED QUICKLY AND WHEN I BACKED MY FOOT OFF THE PEDDLE THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I TAPPED THE PEDDLE A COUPLE TIMES THINKING IT WAS CAUGHT ON THE FLOOR MATT (NOT).IT BACK OFF AND THEN IT DID IT BRIEFLY AGAIN BEFORE CORRECTING ITSELF. THIS WAS ALL IN A 10 SEC. TIME PERIOD..... THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I STEPPED DOWN TO PASS A CAR AND THE PEDDLE MOVED TO THE FLOOR AND STAYED THERE FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS, RELEASED AND WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BREAK TRYING NOT TO HIT OTHER CARS AHEAD OF ME. EVERYTIME I LIFT MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WE WENT FASTER. THEN IT CORRECTED ITSELF AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD THE SECOND TIME AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE FLOOR BOARD THAT MIGHT HAVE INTERFERED WITH THE PEDDLE BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I WAS NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL IN EITHER OCCURRENCE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BUT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN. I DID HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE CAR.
MY JEEP COMMANDER WILL START ACCELERATING EXCESSIVELY AND WILL NOT STOP UNTIL I DISABLE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND GO INTO THE DITCH JUST TO AVOID A CAR.
THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONS: NOW EVEN PRESSING "SET" AT LEAST WHILE DRIVING OVER 40 MPH MAKES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE FAST EVEN TO 80 MPH SO I PRESS BRAKE PEDAL WHICH DOES DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. EVEN IF YOU TURN CRUISE CONTROL OFF AND THEN BACK ON IT KEEPS ON HAPPENING EVERY TIME YOU PRESS SET. I DISCONNECTED POWER TO THE CRUISE CONTROL.
WHEN ALMOST STOPPED THE ENGINE REVVED UP LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS POWER BRAKING..IT HAPPENED TWICE ON JAN 15, 2015 AND AGAIN ON JAN16, 2015...IT THREW US FORWARD AND THANKFULLY WE HAD ENOUGH DISTANCE BETWEEN US AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT IN FRONT OF US THAT WE DID NOT HIT IT....I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT MAKES ME LEERY TO DRIVE WHEN IT IS ACTING LIKE THIS...WE DID NOT HAVE ANY PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP BEFORE THIS DATE. I REPORTED THIS TO CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT..I WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AT MY EXPENSE. WE HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE JAN. 16TH. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD QUICKLY ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DECELERATE AND DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
DRIVING MY JEEP COMMANDER FROM TOPEKA,KS TO MANHATTAN,KS DROVE ON THE HIGH WAY WHEN ACCELERATED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND OR BEGAN A ROCKING MOTION. THE VEHICLE JERKED OR ROCKED EVERY SO OFTEN NOT CONSISTENT BUT VERY RANDOMLY DID NOT NOTICE A PATTERN. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DRIVE WELL AND FELT VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGH WAY. *TR
THE SPEED CONTROL ACCELERATED AND KICKED INTO OVERDRIVE. IT JUMPED FROM 65 TO 80 IN JUST A MATTER OF SECONDS. I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKE AND TURN OF THE SPEED CONTROL. IT NOW DOES IT ALL THE TIME WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 55 MPH AS I CAME INTO A 35 MPH ZONE I HAD TAPPED MY BRAKES AND THEN CAME TO A RED LIGHT WHERE I HAD TO STOP, WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I THEN TURNED ON STATE ROUTE 348 WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS BACK TO 55 WHEN I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO RESUME, MY 06 JEEP COMMANDER ACCELERATED TO A VERY HIGH SPEED AS IF I PUSHED THE PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I PUSHED THE BREAK IT THEN TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME OR I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THEIR VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. AT THIS POINT I CANNOT USE MY CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY (NOTE: I ALWAYS MAKE SURE THERE IS NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME). *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO GO ACROSS THE INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE STARTED GOING BUT VERY SLOWLY NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THERE WERE CARS COMING AT ME. IT DROVE VERY SLOWLY FOR A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AND I CAME TO ANOTHER STOP. AS I STARTED TO GO INTO THE INTERSECTION AGAIN, THE VEHICLE STARTED OFF VERY SLOWLY EVEN WITH THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR. AS I PROCEEDED IT WENT A LITTLE FASTER BUT NOT MUCH FASTER. MY DAUGHTER INFORMED ME THAT THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER EARLIER WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING THE JEEP AND SHE TURNED IT OFF AND SHE CUT IT OFF COMPLETELY THEN RESTARTED IT AND IT RAN FINE. I PROCEEDED TO DO THE SAME THING(CUTTING IT OFF COMPLETELY AND TURNING IT BACK ON) AND IT RAN WELL AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAD THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE SAME PROBLEM AND CAN NOT FIX WHAT THEY CAN'T FIND. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE CAR SEEMED VERY SLUGGISH AND HESITANT TO SWITCH GEARS. AS I APPROACHED THE STOP LIGHT AND CAME TO A STOP I NOTICED THE CAR STALLED. SO I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THIS HAS HAPPEN TWICE NOW THAT THE CAR HAS JUST STALLED. I HAVE NOW NOTICED THAT SINCE THIS INCIDENT MY CAR HAS BEEN IDLING ROUGH AND HAS BEEN VARY SLUGGISH WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY UP HILLS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON THE NORTHWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED OF ABOUT 90 MPH. AT THE TIME, THE CONSUMER WAS ABOUT FIVE CAR LENGTHS FROM AN AUTOMOBILE AHEAD OF HIM IN THE SAME LANE, AND IN 10 SECONDS HE WAS JUST A FEW FEET OF OVERTAKING AND CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE. HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THEN THE ACCELERATOR, REPEATING IT OVER AND OVER, BUT TO NO AVAIL, UNABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OR EVEN SLOW IT DOWN. REALIZING THAT CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE WAS IMMINENT, HE MADE AN OBLIQUE TURN INTO THE TRAFFIC LANE TO HIS LEFT AND CONTINUED AT 90 MPH WITH THE ENGINE SCREAMING AND WITH THE THRUST OF A ROCKET, HIS FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR, TRYING TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON AT A HIGH SPEED FOR ANOTHER 10 OR 15 SECONDS AND THEN THE SITUATION CORRECTED ITSELF AND IT SETTLED DOWN TO 50 MPH. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE THROTTLE BODY PLATE WAS FULL OF CARBON AND THAT INTERFERED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE THROTTLE CAUSING THE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE.
