VIN IS [XXX] 2009 KIA RIO 5 SX- AFTER DRIVING TO SAN DIEGO AND BACK TO PORTLAND OR, OUR ENGINE BEGAN TO PUTTER AND HAD ISSUES ACCELERATING AND SMELLED LIKE IT WAS ON FIRE. WE ALSO NOTICED A RATTLING SOUND THAT INCREASINGLY GOT LOUDER. ONCE HOME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WE GET ALL OF MAINTENANCE DONE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY SPOKE TO KIA AND FROM WHAT THEY SEE AND HEAR, WE WILL NEED TO GET A NEW ENGINE. THEY EVEN SAID THEY WOULD NOT WORK ON THE ENGINE DUE TO LIABILITY CONCERNS. I THEN CALLED A KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE I NEED A KNEW ENGINE, EVEN WITH OUT BRINGING IT TO THEM. THEN I TOOK IT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT 500 BUCKS TO HAVE THE SHOP OPEN THE ENGINE UP BUT FROM THE SOUNDS AND SMELL THEY SAID I WILL NEED TO GET A NEW ENGINE. KIA HAS STATED THAT MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THE ENGINE IS NOT THE ONE THAT WAS RECALLED AND IN A LAWSUIT ALREADY. THE ISSUE WITH THAT ENGINE IS THE SAME AS MY ENGINE NOW. A CAR THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAIN RELIGIOUSLY BY THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD OF WHICH I OWNED IT FOR 2 OF THOSE YEARS, WITH 125874 MILES SHOULD NOT FAIL LIKE THIS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO WORK WITH KIA CORPORATE BUT THEY KEEP COMING BACK WITH I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR THE NEW ENGINE BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE (NOT TRUE) AND BECAUSE THE ENGINE I HAVE IS NO LONGER BEING MADE OR USED BY KIA. THE COST IS BETWEEN 5000 AND 10000 DOLLARS AND THEIR GOOD WILL OFFER WAS TO PAY 1200 OF THAT. THEY HAVEN'T EVEN OPENED UP THE ENGINE TO FIND OUT WHATS WRONG.... I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHT PASSENGER SIDE THAT WIRE ALWAYS BURN AND I HAD TO REPLACE EVERY MONTH
AT 89K MILES, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON AN INCLINE ON VACATION 700 MILES FROM HOME, I HEARD A BUNCH OF NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP AND ENGINE STALLED. I COASTED ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CLOSEST MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE ROD HAD BLOWN A HOLE IN MY ENGINE WITH NO PRIOR INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I CALLED KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS WHO TOLD ME TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A KIA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION WHICH I DID. THE COST FOR REPAIR IS $10K , KIA STATES THAT MY 2.4L ENGINE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL OR AFFECTED ENGINES. MY CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED BEFORE WE LEFT ON THIS TRIP. BOTH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT KIA AND THE MECHANIC AT THE OTHER SHOP SAY THAT THIS SCENARIO IS CONSISTENT WITH THE OTHER ENGINE FAILURES THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE LOWER BLOCK IS IN FACT EXACTLY THE SAME ENGINE. HEATHER FROM KIA TOOK MY ORIGINAL CASE INFORMATION (4/04) AND SAID I WOULD HEAR BACK. TWO DAYS LATER I CALLED AGAIN AND SPOKE WITH HELENA WHO ALSO SAID SHE WOULD WORK ON IT AND CALL ME BACK. SHE ALSO SAID THIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL "YET". 7 DAYS LATER AND NO RESPONSE, I CALLED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE REP TOLD ME THAT HELENA HAD TRIED TO CALL ME AND BECAUSE I DIDN'T ANSWER THE PHONE, SHE CLOSED MY CASE. THIS IS A COMPLETE LIE, I HAVE MY PHONE WITH ME 100% OF THE TIME AND HAVE BEEN ANXIOUSLY AWAITING A CALL. DO THEY NOT REALIZE CALLER ID IS AVAILABLE FOR A RECORDS CHECK? THEY HAVE SUPPOSEDLY REOPENED MY CASE AND I SHOULD HEAR BACK IN 48 HOURS. NO VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE AN ENGINE FAILURE AT 89K MILES. KIA MADE MONEY ON THE SALE OF ALL OF THESE VEHICLES AND NOW THEY ARE MAKING MORE MONEY ON CUSTOMERS HAVING TO BUY NEW ENGINES AT $10K? THEY WILL BE HEARING FROM AN ATTORNEY IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED.
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 60 MPH, IN DRIVE, MY ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AND IT APPEARED TO BE A ROD OR CRANKSHAFT BEARING. DROVE TO KIA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER. I HAVE REGULAR OIL SERVICE CHANGES AND THE CAR'S MILEAGE IS ABOUT 56,000. IT IS STILL AT THE DEALERS YARD. WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2013 WITH ONLY ABOUT 11,000 MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING 67 MPH WITH THE SUN ROOF CLOSED, THE SUN ROOF FRACTURED. GLASS AND DEBRIS FELL INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. RICART KIA (4255 S HAMILTON RD #210, GROVEPORT, OH 43125, (614) 836-6503) WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
ENGINE ON VEHICLE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 75 MPH WITH NO WORRIES OR INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG
PURCHASED THE SORENTO FEBRUARY 2017, AND HAD NOTICED A MISS IN IT IN NOVEMBER. SOMETIME IN MARCH, THE VEHICLE WAS DOWN TO ABOUT A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS AND IT STARTED JERKING VERY BADLY AND LOSING POWER.

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
WHEN SHARPLY TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPOT THERE IS LOUD KNOCK SEEMINGLY COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I CHECKED THIS SITE FOR ANY RECALL NOTICES AND READ THE FOLLOWING RECALL: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 17V-224, RECALL DATE: MARCH 31, 2017, MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: SC147 WHICH EFFECTS THIS SORT OF ISSUE. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICES FROM KIA INFORMING ME OF THIS SAFETY HAZARD OR AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE IT FIXED.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND WHILE HAVING A RECENT RECALL FOR SOMETHING ELSE TAKEN CARE OF THEY FIXED THE ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG. IT IS NOW ON AGAIN AND I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND PASSENGERS NOT KNOWING WHAT THE ISSUE REALLY IS. I WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT WEEK TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND WAS NOT GIVEN ANY IDEA OF WHETHER THIS WOULD BE MY EXPENSE OR KIS'A.
MY HEADLAMPS HAVE GONE OUT UNEXPECTEDLY SEVERAL TIMES CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE WHAT I BELIEVED TO BE A BLOWN BULB I FIND THE BULB IS FINE AND THE SOCKET OR HARNESS DOES NOT KEEP A GOOD CONNECTION. THE BULB WILL COME ON AND OFF WITH VIBRATION. I HAD THE WIRING AND/OR HARNESS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES.
I HAD A POWER TRAIN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. TOOK TO A KIA REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST AND I'M VERY DISTRAUGHT ABOUT IT. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE ANY POWER TO ACCELERATE. THEY SAID IT WAS A REA SAFETY PROBLEM AND THE COMPUTER WILL NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. IM READY TO TAKE WHOM EVER TO COURT TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
INTERNAL SHORT IN THE OCS MAT SENSOR LOCATED IN MY PASSENGER SEAT WHERE THERE IS RARELY ANYONE SITTING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT DISABLES MY ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM. IT'S A $2100 REPAIR THAT SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE FOR KIA.
CAR HAS BEEN COMPLETELY FINE. DRIVING HOME ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A LOUD NOISE AND FEEL VIBRATION. HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT AND THE ENGINE ROD IS MESSED UP. I NEED A NEW ENGINE. GOING 60MPH

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEN TOWED TO SUNSET KIA OF BRADENTON (4770 14TH STREET WEST, (US41), BRADENTON, FL 34207, (941) 752-1000) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS THAT WERE FOUND IN THE ENGINE UPON INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED THAT A USED ENGINE WOULD BE PROVIDED FOR THE REPLACEMENT; HOWEVER, A LABOR CHARGE WOULD BE ASSESSED FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 12622086. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
ENGINE WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL IN OCT 2017. EVER SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD MY ENGINE LIGHT COME ON FOR EVAP LEAKS. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY EITHER SAY THEY FOUND A LEAK AND FIXED IT OR TELL ME THEY CAN'T FIND A LEAK. LIGHT WILL COME BACK ON WITHIN A FEW DAYS TO A FEW WEEKS. NEW ENGINE ONLY HAD 12MONTH/12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON IT EVEN THOUGH I AM STILL UNDER MILEAGE FOR INITIAL WARRANTY (AT 80,000 NOW) THEY CLAIM MY CAR IS NOT UNDER THE NEW RECALL AND IS NOT A FIRE RISK. HAVE SMELLED FUEL ONCE. LIGHT IS CURRENTLY ON, DEALER AND KIA HAVE BEEN NO HELP AND SINCE NEW WARRANTY IS UP THEY HAVE STARTED WANTING ME TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIRS.
IN JAN. 2018 WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN ROAD THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGIE.. OIL HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED IN DEC. SHORTLY AFTER HEARING NOISE THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR CUT OFF ON ME IN TRAFFIC. WAS ABLE TO GET THE CR TO RESTART TO LILL OVER OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE OIL DIPSTICK AREA. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOME WHERE I THEN CONTACTED KIA AND HAD THEM TOW IT TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD BY KIA THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2013 SORENTO GDI ENGINES. KIA SUSPECTS A BLOWN ENGINE AT ONLY 86,896 MILES BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT'S THE 2.4L DOHC ENGINE... THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY STIL NOT RUNNING... I PURCHASED THIS VEHILCE IN MARCH OF 2017.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (BILL DODGE KIA IN SACO, MAINE) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER A MONTH PRIOR FOR AN ENGINE EVALUATION AS PER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NOTIFICATION. DURING THAT TIME, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CASE NUMBER: 112611205 WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCOMPLETE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
PASSENGER HEADLIGHT FAILED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY STATE THE WIRING HARNESS IS "MELTED" AND "THERE'S NO REPAIR OR PIGTAIL REPLACEMENT, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY." ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES FROM KIA ARE $600. THE VEHICLE JUST HIT 61K MILES. MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER THIS ISSUE. SO I TOOK IT HOME AND TOOK IT APART. THERE IS VOLTAGE TO THE HEADLIGHT, AND THERE IS VOLTAGE TO THE HEADLIGHT PLUG. THE GROUND SIDE OF THE HEADLIGHT PLUG LOOKS OVERHEATED, THE PLASTIC MOLEX CONNECTOR IS BORED OUT AND SHOWS CORROSION. WHEN THE BULB IS PLUGGED IN, IT WORKS SOMETIMES. I HAVE TO MESS WITH IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT. I SEE LOTS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS.
THE SEAT BELT LIGHT HAS BECOME ILLUMINATED DUE TO A SENSOR FAILURE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN AND DISCUSSED AMONG KIA OWNERS. THE FAILURE OF THE SENSOR CAUSES ALL OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO FAIL AND THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. WITH THE RECENT RECALLS TO OTHER KIA AND HYUNDAI MODELS, THIS MODEL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THIS MODEL.
MY CAR HAS 2 DOOR HANDLES THAT HAVE FALLEN OFF. ONE RIGHT AFTER ANOTHER. THIS IS ALSO SOMETHING I SEE FREQUENTLY ON OTHER KIA SORENTOS I PASS ON THE ROAD SO OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I DID NOT PAY FOR A CAR TO HAVE TO STICK MY ARM THROUGH AND AROUND TO THE OTHER DOOR TO OPEN IT, THAT'S RIDICULOUS. ALSO, THE CAR WAS IN PARK IN THE DRIVE WAY AT MY PARENTS HOUSE, IT WASN'T EVEN TURNED ON, THE KEYS WEREN'T EVEN IN IT.
ONE OF MY TAIL LIGHTS WENT OUT. RIGHT AFTER I CHANGED IT, MY DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT WENT OUT. I CHANGED THE BULB AND IT WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME. I DID THIS 2 MORE TIMES IN 2 MONTHS.THEN I HAD A REPAIR SHOP CHANGE THE BULB AND THEY SAID THE CONNECTOR WAS MELTED AND IT WAS UNSAFE. THEY INSTALLED A NEW CONNECTOR AND BULB. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT. THE CONNECTOR WAS ALSO MELTED ON THAT SIDE. THIS WENT ON WITH THE TAIL LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS FOR MONTHS. I FINALLY HAD TO GET A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT AGAIN, AND IS STILL OUT AT THIS TIME BECAUSE THE CONNECTOR IS MELTED AND NO ONE WANTS TO FIX IT SINCE IT'S A FIRE HAZARD.
Approximately 4 years ago the paint began to chip on the roof and side near the windshield of my Pearl white sorento. It was bubbling up and slowly chipping away and has now began to rust.
ENGINE FAILED AT 82,000.00 MILES. THIS IS THE 2.4L I-4 MPI ENGINE THAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. VEHICLE IS AT DEALER AWAITING REPLACEMENT ENGINE. I HAVE REPEATEDLY CONTACTED KIA CORPORATE AND THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING AN AXLE ISSUE. IT IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE THAT NHSTA HAS ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE FOR 2014 MODEL VEHICLES. MY AXLE IS IN JEOPARDY OF FRACTURING - COMPANY WILL NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY SAY 2013S AREN'T COVERED. SUMMARY: KIA MOTORS CORP. IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2014 FRONT WHEEL DRIVE SORENTO VEHICLES MANUFACTURED JANUARY 7, 2013, THROUGH MARCH 12, 2013; AND EQUIPPED WITH 2.4 LITER ENGINES. DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ISSUE, THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE SHAFT MAY FRACTURE.

ON OCTOBER 6TH, I WAS COMMUTING HOME FROM WORK AND MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING NOISE UPON ACCELERATION THAT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. ONCE I ARRIVED AT MY HOUSE, I NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND AS I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK. OUT NEAREST KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS NOT OPEN ON SATURDAYS SO I TOOK IT TO A NEARBY MECHANIC. THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS A BEARING ISSUE AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THEY HAD A DIFFICULT TIME GIVING ME A COMPLETE ESTIMATE BECAUSE THEY HAD TROUBLE FINDING ALL PARTS NEEDED. I CONTACTED KIA ON MONDAY AND ASKED IF THEY COULD HELP ME AS I WAS JUST A BIT OVER THE 100,000 WARRANTY. THEY SUGGESTED I CALL KIA AND SPEAK TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AND OPEN A CASE WITH THEM. I OPENED A CASE AND THEY SUGGESTED I BRING MY CAR INTO KIA FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. I BROUGHT IT IN ON TUESDAY AND THEY CONFIRMED THERE WAS A BEARING ISSUE AND THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED $7,700 BEFORE TAX FOR A RE-MANUFACTURED ENGINE AND OVER $12,000 FOR A FULLY ASSEMBLED ENGINE. MY REQUEST FOR KIA TO ASSIST ME WITH THIS REPAIR WAS PUT IN, I FORWARDED MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SENT THAT ALONG WITH SOME PHOTOS THE DISTRICT PARTS AND SERVICE MANAGER REQUESTED OF MY ENGINE. I DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM KIA EVEN AFTER ATTEMPTING TO FOLLOW UP DAILY UNTIL OCTOBER 25 AFTER I REQUESTED MY CASE BE ESCALATED. I INQUIRED WITH MY CASE MANAGER, CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT WHAT ACTUALLY WENT WRONG WITH MY ENGINE AND HOW THIS SITUATION IS UNLIKE THE MOST RECENT RECALL ON MY SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL ENGINES-ONLY THOSE WERE GDI. I CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS A ROD BEARING THAT CAUSED METAL SHAVINGS TO BE FOND IN MY ENGINE. BASED ON MY RESEARCH OF THE RECENT RECALL, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. I'M NOT SIRE WHY WITH SO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, OTHER ENGINES WERE NOT CONSIDERED IN THE RECALL.

I HAVE A 2013 KIA SORENTO WITH 103000 MILES AND I'M THE 2ND OWNER, I THINK, AND HAVE HAD IT FOR 7 MONTHS. CHANGED THE OIL REGULARLY AND NO ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH AND THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. STARTED THE SORENTO AGAIN AND THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 40 MILES TO MECHANIC WHO SAID THE ROD BEARING WAS THE BLAME AND THE DEBRIS FROM THAT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. CONTACTED KIA 3 TIMES AND SPOKE TO SUPERVISORS, BUT THEY SAID MY ENGINE / VIN # WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT IT WAS UP TO ME TO GET FIXED. $7000.00 !!
KIA REPLACED MY ENGINE TWICE, DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION. A MONTH AFTER THE FIRST ENGINE REPLACEMENT, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS.. SMOKE COMING OUT OF EXHAUST, LOSS OF POWER, STALLING AND OIL CONSUMPTION. I WAS IN AND OUT OF KIA'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG! I MOVED FROM CO TO NE, MY HUSBAND AND I HAD TO ADD OIL EVERY 100 MILES, WITH SMOKE COMING OUT OF EXHAUST AND STALLING. LINCOLN NE KIA FOUND AN OIL LEAK AT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD RIGHT AWAY! KIA INSTRUCTS THEN TO REPLACE MY ENGINE AGAIN! ONCE THEY REPLACED ENGINE, THEY STILL SAW THE LEAK AT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WITH RESULTED IN MORE GUESSING AND PARTS. THE DAY AFTER I PICKED IT UP, MY HUSBAND AND I WENT OUT TO DINNER AND MY SORENTO DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. RIGHT AWAY CALLED AND GOT IT BACK IN. AT FIRST THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE, HOWEVER AFTER TAKING IT 50 MILES, IT DIED 3 TIMES. THEY STILL CAN'T FIND ANYTHING, BUT FEEL IT MAY BE THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY PUT A USED ONE ON AND HAVE ME DRIVE IT A FEW WEEKS, IT DIDN'T DIE DURING THAT TIME, SO THEY ORDERED A NEW ONE AND INSTALLED. A MONTH LATER I DRIVE TO CO, I BREAK DOWN, IT'S TOWED BACK AND KIA CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. I DRIVE IT AND IT DIES 1/2 DOZEN MORE TIMES, EACH TIME I TAKE IT RIGHT IN, BUT THE CODE HAS CLEARED AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING! FINALLY, IT DOES AND THE LIGHT STAYS ON, IT SHOWS IT'S THE MAP SENSOR. KIA HAS A SPECIALIST COME OUT TO INSTALL THAT AND INSPECT MY CAR. THEY SAY IT'S FIXED AND SAFE. I DRIVE TO CO ON 9/22/17, 2 MONTHS LATER AND MY ENGINE CATCHES ON FIRE. I LOSS MY BRAKES, CAN'T PUT IT IN PARK AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WON'T WORK. FLAMES ARE EVERYWHERE, SMOKE FILLING MY CAR. I JUMP OUT OF MY BURNING, MOVING CAR AND SECONDS LATER THE WHOLE THING ENGULFS IN FLAMES! MOST HORRIFIC, AWFUL THING EVER! I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE MINOR INJURIES. HOW COME KIA HAS A RECALL ON 2013 KIA SORENTO BUT DISCRIMINATES ENGINES. ONE OF THE SCARIEST SITUATIONS I HAVE EVER BEEN IN! AND NOW KIA SAYS TOO BAD!!! IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, AND THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I HAD NOT CLOSED IT ALL THE WAY. I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY HOW MANY TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED ENOUGH TIMES FOR ME TO BE CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY IT WILL JUST FLY OPEN; SPILLING ITEMS INTO THE ROADWAY, AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IN THE LAST WEEK IT HAS OCCURRED TWICE, AND IT IS NEVER NOTICEABLE UNTIL AFTER I START DRIVING. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS INITIALLY STARTED THE 'DOOR OPEN' INDICATOR IS NOT ILLUMINATED. IT'S NOT UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THAT IT HAS COME ON. THE LIGHT DOES NOT ALWAYS COME ON BUT I CAN HERE THE HATCH RATTLING AS THOUGH IT IS NOT CLOSED ALL THE WAY. IT IS VERY IRRITATING AND CAUSES GREAT CONCERN BECAUSE I WOULD HATE FOR IT TO CAUSE SOMETHING TO HAPPEN IN THE EVENT THE IT JUST COMPLETELY RELEASES.

AROUND 4:30AM (STILL DARK OUTSIDE) I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, MY ENGINE WAS MAKING KNOCKING SOUNDS AND I STARTED TO GET OFF ON AN EXIT, ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT SEEMED AS IF EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON, THE OIL CHANGE LIGHT AND SOME SIGNS I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE LIGHTED UP, THE CAR WENT DEAD AND CAME BACK ON INSTANTLY, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT. I TURNED MY HAZARDS ON AND REMAINED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXIT UNTIL HELP ARRIVED AND WAS ABLE TO PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSH MY VEHICLE BUMPER TO BUMPER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR A RECALL EVALUATION ON 08/31/17 TO LUPINTE KIA IN BROOKLYN PARK, MINNESOTA AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OK TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
MY ENGINE HAS NO LEAKS OF OIL YET RAN OUT OF ALL BUT 1 QT, AND CAUSED MY TO GET SPUN BEARINGS, AND NOW ENGINE IS RUINED. THIS IS LESS THAN A 4 YEAR OLD CAR AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS EVER CAME ON SAYING I WAS LOW ON ANYTHING. ALSO JUST HAD MAJOR FLUIDS ALL CHANGED IN CAR LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. IT IS OVER THE 100,000 WARRANTY SO NOW I HAVE TO GET A NEW ENGINE. LOOKING TO SEE IF THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH ANY OTHER OWNERS. THE ENGINE IS THE V6 ENGINE, THE SMALLER ENGINE WAS RECALLED FOR SIMILAR ISSUES, YET MINE WASNT IN THE RECALL.

CAUSING THE ENGINE TO BE COMPLETELY UNUSABLE AND POSSIBLY OTHER ENGINE DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THIS. NOT TO MENTION THE SENSORS ON THE CAR NEVER CAME ON TO WARN ME OF ANY POSSIBLE PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT BE HAPPENING. THE CAR IS STILL BEING OWED ON AND IN UNDRIVABLE CONDITION. IT HAS BEEN SINCE PARKED, EXCEPT WHEN TOWED ( FULL BED TOW) TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND THAN TOWED BACK TO MY RESIDENCE. THE ESTIMATED COST KIA OFFERED WAS OVER $9,000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR WITH ONLY A 12,000 MILE/ 1 YEAR WARRANTY WHEN THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WARRANTY IS 100.000 MI WARRANTY. THE MAINTENCE HAS BEEN KEPT UP ON DURING THE LIFE OF THE VWHICLE AND NO KNOWN NEGLIGENCE WAS DONE TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR STALLED OUT 3 TIMES WHILE PICKING UP OUR KIDS FROM SCHOOL. WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME IT HAD LOUND KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM ENGINE , SO WE ARRANGED FOR THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE ISSUE. THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS OVER THEIR WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE AND WOULDNT COVER THE DAMAGE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS AS MY KIA HAPPENING TO THEM AS WELL AS THE LAWSUIT THAT KIA /HYUNDAI PAID OUT FOR REPAIRS IN THE CASE GREG WALLIS VS. KIA MOTORS CASE #8:16-CV-01033 (US DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA. WITH THEM AGREEING TO PAY ALL REPAIRS.
2013 KIA SORENTO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED. THE ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION. UPDATED 10/02/2017*JS
