LAND ROVER IS RECALLING 37,142 MY 2005-2006 LR3 AND RANGE ROVER SPORT VEHICLES. RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL HUB AND/OR THE STEERING COLUMN COWL WITH THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH INCLUDES THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUITRY, COULD RESULT IN FRACTURING OF THE AIR BAG WIRING CONNECTION. IF AN AIR BAG WIRE FRACTURES, THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE SRS WARNING LIGHT INDICATES TO THE DRIVER THAT THERE IS A CONCERN WITH THE SRS SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT IMMEDIATE REPAIR IS NECESSARY.
Remedy Status
DEALERS WILL INSERT 1MM SPACERS BETWEEN THE LOWER LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE COLUMN SWITCH MOUNTING POINT AND THE COLUMN LOCK TO IMPROVE THE ALIGNMENT OF THE COLUMN SWITCH. TWO FOAM PADS WILL ALSO BE FITTED TO THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN SWITCH GEAR TO PROVIDE ASSURED CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE COWL AND THE CLOCKSPRING FACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 30, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT LAND ROVER AT 1-800-637-6837.
CERTAIN AFTERMARKET THULE HITCH STYLE BICYCLE RACKS WITH FOLD DOWN STYLE BIKE ARMS. A PINCH BOLT EXISTS BETWEEN THE BIKE ARM BRACKET AND THE UPRIGHT ASSEMBLY OF THE HITCH STYLE BICYCLE RACK.

SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES MAY HAVE FUEL TANKS THAT CONTAIN AN INTERNAL BREATHER PIPE THAT WAS NOT MADE TO SPECIFICATION. THIS COULD RESULT IN EXCESSIVE SWELLING AND CRACKING OF A GROMMET AND SUBSEQUENT DETACHMENT OF THE BREATHER PIPE FROM A CONNECTOR TUBE. WHEN THE FUEL LEVEL IN THE TANK IS ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE DETACHED JOINT, FUEL MAY THEN ENTER THE BREATHER PIPE AND EXCESS FUEL MAY BE DISCHARGED ONTO THE GROUND.
Remedy Status

CERTAIN VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 114, 'THEFT PROTECTION.' WHEN THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED OFF, AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME, IT IS POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER IS NOT IN PARK.
Remedy Status
DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE DRIVELINE CONTROL TRANSFER BOX ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) WITH REVISED SOFTWARE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 30, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT LAND ROVER AT 1-201-818-8500.
HOC SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE. TRANSMISSION FAULT STEERING WHEEL SUSPENSION
The sunroof shattered when a door was opened. Vehicle was not in motion. Tiny shards of glass fell all over front seats and console of vehicle and continued to fall while driving home.
SUSPENSION FAULT LIGHT COMES ON WHEN DRIVING. VEHICLE MOVES UP AND DOWN. I HAVE SEEN MORE THAN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE AIR COMPRESSOR AND FAULTY SENSORS. WHY AREN'T THEY BEING REPAIRED BY LAND ROVER. A VEHICLE OF THIS TYPE AND COST SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. ARE THEY WAITING FOR TIME TO RUN OUT?
SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A SECURE PARKING AREA.
UPON STOPPING QUICKLY OR SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE STALLS CREATING VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR DRIVER. HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY AND INTERSECTION TO DATE AND NEARLY CREATED TWO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS SURELY WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD THEY OCCURRED
FAULT WITH SUNROOF DRAIN TUBES. TUBES BECOME EITHER BLOCKED OR ERODED, AND WATER LEAKING INTO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOORBOARD. UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR ARE MANY ELECTRICAL WIRES. AS A RESULT OF WATER ACCUMULATING UNDER FLOOR, ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OF CAR MIGHT FAIL SUCH AS NAVIGATION FAILURE, VOICE COMMAND, KEYLESS ENTRY. CAR ALSO FAILED TO MOVE FROM PARKED POSITION AS A RESULT OF THE WATER DESTROYING SENSORS. COST OVER $800.00 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LAND ROVER LR3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE REPAIRS PERFORMED WERE UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 191,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 LAND ROVER LR3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED FORWARD TWICE AND CRASHED INTO A BUSH. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND THEN CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED DESTROYED.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,589. UPDATED 12/30/15*LJ *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LAND ROVER LR3. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND EMITTED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED AND FELL ONTO THE CONTACT'S LAP, HEAD, AND ARMS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE SUN ROOF WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,950.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY IN SLOW TRAFFIC, ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE FAILURE FIRST WARNING FLASHED AND ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER ALL LIGHTS THEN GRADUALLY APPEARING WITH A TRANSMISSION WARNING NEXT ETC ETC. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR AN EXIT WHERE I WAITED ON A TOW. I THEN WHILE WAITING NOTICED THAT MY TRANS SELECTOR CAN MOVE OUT OF PARK WITH THE KEY IN MY HAND. MY COMPLAINT IS PRINCIPALLY THAT LAND ROVER WILL NOT SYMPATHIZE WITH ME ON THE FACT THAT BECAUSE OF SUCH A SAFETY HAZARD THAT THEIR RELEVANT RECALLS SHOULD EXTEND UNTIL THE SYSTEM IS FIXED PROPERLY AND NOT JUST UNTIL THE WARENTEE IS OVER.
SAFETY ISSUE THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN PERIOD. IT WILL MAKE A CLICK SOUND BUT WILL NOT RELEASE DOOR TO OPEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN REAR HATCH. *TR
2006 LR3 WITH ONLY 93K MILES HAD THE TIMING CHAIN BREAK WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE HAS A FULL SERVICE HISTORY AT AN AUTHORIZED LAND ROVER DEALER SHOWING RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE (VALVES ETC.) IS ESTIMATED AT $5500 TO REPAIR. THE TIMING CHAIN IS MADE OF METAL AND BASED ON INDUSTRY EXPERTISE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BREAK FOR THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE OR PAST 200,000+ MILES. RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER LR3 OWNERS WITH VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES. BASED UPON THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE LIFESPAN OF A TIMING CHAIN AND OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS, I BELIEVE THERE MAY BE A DEFECTIVE PART ON THIS VEHICLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND IT'S RELATED COMPONENTS. THERE ARE NO MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN PRIOR TO 100K MILES AND IT IS EXPECTED TO LAST FAR LONGER THAN 100K MILES BASED UPON NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE ONLY USED THE VEHICLE US ROADS AS YOU WOULD A TYPICAL AUTOMOBILE (NO OFF-ROADING HOBBIES ETC.) WE ARE PURSUING THIS MATTER WITH LAND ROVER DIRECTLY AND REPORTING THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ALERT OTHER LR3 OWNERS. *TR
I BEGAN TO NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE, WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. AFTER A WEEK, THE "SUSPENSION FAULT" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD THE SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, SO I WENT AHEAD WITH THE REPAIRS AT A COST OF $1600. WHEN I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND TESTED THE SUSPENSION, IT WOULD NOT RAISE INTO OFF ROAD HEIGHT. IT LOWERED FINE, BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN NORMAL HEIGHT, ONLY THE REAR WOULD RAISE. IT ALSO TOOK A LOT LONGER THAN USUAL. I DIDN'T EVEN GET IT OUT OF THE SHOP PARKING LOT BEFORE THE SUSPENSION FAULT LIGHT LIT UP AGAIN. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT SOMETIMES TAKES 2 OR 3 ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT, IT'S OBVIOUS THERE'S A DEFECT WITH THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM OR THE ACTUAL COMPRESSOR. EITHER WAY, THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY LANDROVER. I HOPE THEY DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A RECALL. *TR

LANDROVER LR 3 HAVE A KNOWN PROBLEM OF HAVING WATER COLLECT IN THE SUNROOF AREA DUE TO BLOCKAGE IN SOME DRAINAGE TUBE FROM DEBRIS. CLEANING OF THESE TUBES IS NOT A REGULAR PART OF MAINTENANCE IF YOU TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE. THE WATER COLLECT AND LEAKS INTO THE CABIN DIRECTLY OVER THE RADIO AND MIDDLE CONSOLE. IT ALSO LEAKS OVER THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE PASSENGER HEAT REGISTER AND IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASHBOARD AREA OVER THE HEAT REGISTER. WATER SEEPS INTO THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM (THE MAIN BCM) THAT CONTROLS MANY IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE OPERATION. SO FAR I HAVE A SHORT IN THE RADIO. MANY OF THE LANDROVER FORUMS ONLINE HAVE SEVERAL CUSTOMERS AND OWNERS OF LANDROVER LR3 THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. THIS DEFECT IN THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR THE SUNROOF COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE / SHORTING OUT OF THE BCM THAT CONTROLS THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. DRIVING, THEN DEFAULT SUSPENSION LIGHT TURNS ON. THEN HYDRAULICS COMPLETELY STOP WORKING . BACK SEAT SEATBELT NOT WORKING PROPERLY. PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON. TRANSMISSION PULLS IMPROPERLY. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, RADIO, CLOCK, CD PLAYER STOPS WORKING. *TR
CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE, AS IT INITIALLY SEEMED TO HAVE THE MUST DISCUSSED PROBLEM OF HARSH AND IRREGULAR SHIFTING WHEN ROLLING TO A STOP AND THEN RE-ACCELERATING. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED INTERMITTANTLY AND NOW THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES DROPS COMPLETELY OUT OF GEAR WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR TURNING. THE VEHICLE THEN DROPPED OUT OF GEAR AND I HAD NO ACCELERATION, AS IT WAS SUDDENLY LIKE I WAS IN NEUTRAL. HIGH RPM.... BUT NO MOVEMENT. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO FIND "DRIVE" AND I CAN THEN MOVE FORWARD WITH NORMAL ACCELERATION. *TR
AS WE WERE DRIVING, THE SUSPENSION FAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY WENT OFF. WE THOUGHT IT MAY BE DUE TO THE ROAD CONDITIONS. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER, WE STOPPED TO GAS UP AND WHEN WE WERE BACK ON THE ROAD, THE RADIO WOULD NOT WORK. NO SOUND BUT A CRACKING SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE RADIO. AFTER A HOUR, THE RADIO CAME BACK ON. LAST WEEK, I WAS DRIVING AND THE SUSPENSION LIGHT WAS CAME ON AND OFF EVERY 5 OR 10 MINUTES, IT SEEMED. THEN A LOUD CHIME WITH A SUSPENSION FAULT IN RED LETTERS. AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS GOING UP AND DOWN LIKE IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. KINDLY OF SPOOKY. OF COURSE, OUR 2006 LR3 IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CALLED THE DEALER AND IT WILL COST $125 FOR A DIAGNOSIS BUT IT WILL GO TOWARD THE COST OF THE SERVICE WHATEVER IS NEEDED. ALL I SEE IS MAJOR DOLLARS SIGNS DUE TO OUR LAST EXPERIENCE. THE DEALER QUOTED US A COST OF $250 FOR A PROBLEM MY HUSBAND FIXED WITH A $12 FUSE. SO MY HUSBAND WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER NOT UNLESS IT IS A MUST.
