THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOLS CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
MERCEDES RECALL 17V627 WAS ISSUED SAYING "NO CONCERN UNLESS SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATES." MINE DID. I WENT TO ARROWHEAD MB IN PEORIA WHO WANTED TO CHARGE ME $175 TO DIAGNOSE AND $400 TO PULL THE BUMPER SAYING THEY WERE SURE THAT IT WASN'T THE RECALL CAUSING THE SRS LIGHT TO COME UP BUT NEEDED TO PULL THE BUMPER TO BE SURE. I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC WITH A COMPUTER PLUG INTO THE MB AND COULD FIND NO OTHER CAUSE. I BELIEVE MB WAS TRYING TO ILLEGALLY RECOUP THEIR LABOR COST FOR FIXING A RECALL. I WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO CHARGE ME. MY HUSBAND WAS OUT OF STATE WORKING ON A TRIAL AND I WANTED FOR HIM TO COME HOME AND TEST HIS CAR WITH THE SAME RECALL HIS VIN IS [XXX] AND THE CAR REQUIRED REGULAR SERVICE AND MB TRIED TO UPCHARGE HIM $3500 FOR WORK THAT DIDN'T NEED TO BE DONE WE BELIEVE TO RECOUP THE LABOR IN FIXING A RECALL. WE LEASED THESE CARS AND THEN BOUGHT THEM OUTRIGHT FROM ARROWHEAD BOTH AT ONCE AND SERVICE HAS STEADILY DECLINED AND THE UNNECESSARY UPCHARGES BOTH AT ONCE, LEAD US TO BELIEVE THEY ARE TRYING TO RECOUP FOR FIXING A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF MIAMI (1200 NW 167TH ST, MIAMI, FL 33169, (305) 707-0147) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO THE RECALL AND THAT THE FUSE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
TAKATA RECALL I WANT TO GO ON RECORD HOW DISAPPOINTED I AM THAT PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS RECALL. STATING 'AIRBAG EXPLOSION CAUSING SHARP METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE OCCUPANTS CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH' IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS. OTHER OPTIONS SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY. I INTEND TO TALK WITH MY MERCEDES DEALER AS WELL. THIS MAY PUT UNDUE BURDEN ON THE DEALERS AS WELL. NEWER VEHICLES SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED. TAKATA RECALL ON FEBRUARY 26, 2018, I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM MERCEDES BENZ USA ("MERCEDES") WITH RESPECT TO A DEFECT ON THE "TAKATA" AIRBAGS, NOTING THAT "A PASSENGER-SIDE INFLATION EXPLOSION DURING DEPLOYMENT COULD RESULT IN SHARP METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE FRONT PASSENGER OR OTHER OCCUPANTS, POSSIBLY CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH." THE LETTER ALSO NOTES THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR MY VEHICLE. I CALLED MERCEDES TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHY, IF I AM DRIVING A CAR THAT IS DEEMED TO BE UNSAFE AND PER THE ABOVE, COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH, A REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT MERCEDES SENT THE LETTER WITH THE VERBIAGE AS IT APPEARED FROM TAKATA, THAT MANY OTHER MANUFACTURERS WERE IMPACTED BY THIS RECALL, AND THAT MERCEDES WAS "LOW ON THE LIST" FOR REPLACEMENTS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW OR WHY I SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A CAR WITH MY FAMILY IN IT THAT IS DEEMED TO BE UNSAFE. I FURTHER DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MERCEDES IS NOT TAKING ANY ACTION TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION. MERCEDES DETERMINED THAT BOTH THEY AND YOU (AS THE REGULATOR) DETERMINED THAT THE CAR IS IN FACT SAFE, YET THE LETTER I WAS PROVIDED STATES OTHERWISE. PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE.

MERCEDES BENZ OF MARIETTA WAS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. SERVICE ADVISOR AHMAD FROZAN CALLED ME YESTERDAY TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT WITH THEM. HE STATED REMEDY PARTS NOT AVAILABLE FOR MY VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER I RECEIVED A SAFTEY RECALL NOTICE THAT REMEDY PARTS ARE AVAILABLE TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT WITH AUTHORIZED DEALER. NEEDS TO REMEDY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID POSSIBLE DAMAGES.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ONE DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE 0340 FOR A CAMSHAFT SENSOR. BOTH SENSORS ARE REPLACED, LIGHT RETURNS IN TWO DAYS AND ALL PROBLEMS PERSIST. VEHICLE HAS A LONG CRANK, WHEN DIAGNOSED AS THE TIMING CHAIN AND TIMING CHAIN TENSION($4400 OF WORK). VEHICLE HAS 66K MILES. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE. IN THE UK AND AUSTRALIA MERCEDES WAS FORCED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE OF CONSUMER PROTECTIONS. I'VE NOTICED A REDUCTION IN MY ABILITY TO SPEED UP QUICKLY AND I'VE READ ANECDOTES OF PEOPLE'S CARS STOPPING DEAD ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE OF THIS. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG IN FEBRUARY, 2018. THE NOTICE STATED THAT A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE MADE AND WE WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN IT WAS AVAILABLE. IT'S BEEN ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND WE STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION.
TAKATA RECALL APPEARS TO HAVE BECOME A BAD JOKE. IT HAS BEEN 16 MONTHS SINCE RECEIVING A LETTER FROM MERCEDES BENZ ACKNOWLEDGING THE DANGER OF OUR AIRBAGS NEEDING REPLACEMENT AND BEING A PART OF THE TAKATA RECALL (FEB 2018 TO JUNE 2019). MERCEDES BENZ HAS THEIR NOTIFICATION OF THIS RECALL, ON THEIR OWN MBUSA WEBSITE AS JAN 10, 2016 (NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 18V043). MBZ HAS STATED THE STATUS OF THIS RECALL AS "RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE." SINCE A VERY LONG TIME, WITH NO APPARENT CHANGES OR UPDATES. IT IS BECOMING CLEAR THAT MBZ HAS NO INTENTION OF FULFILLING THIS RECALL, AND APPARENTLY QUITE CONTENT TO LEAVE THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS OF THEIR VEHICLES IN DANGER OF INJURY, MAIMING, AND/OR DEATH FROM A REPAIRABLE PROBLEM THAT IS WELL KNOWN FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW.

THE SITE IDENTIFIED IT TO BE UNDER THE RECALL NOTICE THEN DIRECTED ME TO CONTACT A NUMBER FOR THE LOCAL MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. WHEN I CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ OF ORLANDO THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER RECALL. I WAS EXPERIENCING AN ENGINE STALL WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE AND A RATTLING LIKE NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AS WELL IN EARLY JANUARY 2018. MY ENGINE LIGHT SENSOR CAME ON ABOUT 2 DAYS LATER. I TOOK MY CAR TO MB LONG BEACH AND WAS ADVISED THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CAMSHAFT ADJUSTED WHICH WOULD COST ME APPROXIMATELY $4K+. IT WAS FURTHER EXPLAINED THAT THIS ISSUE WAS DUE TO A CRACK IN THE SHAFT AND THE OIL IS NOT BEING PROPERLY DISPERSED. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION ON MY OWN BEHALF, THIS IS AN ENGINE MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THERE ARE SEVERAL CONSUMER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. AFTER CALLING MB USA SEVERAL TIMES, I FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL BACK STATING, I COULD RECEIVE A "1-TIME, 10% OFF THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR. IF THIS WAS A CONSUMER RELATED VEHICLE REPAIR NEGLIGENCE THEN THE CONSUMER COVERING THE EXPENSE WOULD BE THE RIGHT THING TO DO, BUT WHEN THIS IS A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND MB IS AWARE OF IT THEN THIS EXPENSE SHOULD BE ONE THAT SHOULD COVER.
