GAS LEAK WHEN FUELING CAUSING GASOLINE FUMES IN THE VEHICLE. VERY DANGEROUS!! *TR
STRONG GASOLINE ODORS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE UPON REFUELING THE TANK TO FULL. THE GARAGE FUMES WITH GAS ODORS AND THE VAPORS CAN EVEN BE SEEN IN THE AIR. WE ARE AFRAID TO FILL THE TANK AND ALSO VERY AFRAID IF SOMEONE IS NEARBY WITH A CIGARETTE OR FIRE.. *TR
I FILLED THE FUEL TANK AND SMELLED FUMES AS I DROVE AWAY. I THEN PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE BACK SEAT UNDER THE CAR, VERY DANGEROUS!!!
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK AND PARKING IT IN THE GARAGE IT GIVES OFF A TERRIBLE GAS ODOR WHICH GETS MORE AND MORE STRONG THE LONGER THE CAR IS IN THE GARAGE. ONCE THE CARS FUEL TANK EMPTIES SOMEWHAT IT SEEMS TO NOT EMIT THE GAS ODORS WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE. I WAS TOLD TO REFERENCE ACTION NUMBER PE12001. *TR
PARKED IN GARAGE. EVERY MORNING I WOULD SMELL STRONG GAS ODOR. TOLD BY JACKSON AUTOMOTIVE THE GAS TANK WAS LEAKING. ASKED THEM IF GAS TANKS SHOULD GO BAD AND THEY SAID NO. THEY SHOULD LAST A LIFETIME. THEY CHARGED ME $1922.31 TO REPLACE AND $41.08 FOR GAS THEY PUT IN NEW TANK. *JB
THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT IN 3 YEARS INVOLVING MY FUEL TANK! THERE IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT HERE!! THE FIRST TIME, I HAD MY FUEL TANK REPLACED IN 2010 (AT 37,473 MILES) BECAUSE OF A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AFTER I WOULD FILL-UP. THIS TIME I BEGAN TO NOTICE A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, AT THE REAR, LEFT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE, WHEN IT WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A REGULAR SERVICE, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC ALSO NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM THE REAR LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THERE IS NO FUEL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND BENEATH THE CAR, BUT THERE IS CLEARLY A LEAK SOMEWHERE. I SEARCHED ONLINE FOR RECALLS AND CAME ACROSS THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
I GOT IN MY CAR YESTERDAY TO DRIVE IT AND THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS OVERWHELMING. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT ONE OF THE FUEL PUMPS UNDER MY CAR HAD A FAULTY CONNECTION AND, AS A RESULT, FUMES WERE ESCAPING INTO THE CAR. THE ENTIRE PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF AT LEAST $800. HE SAID THE ONLY REASON HE KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE CAR, WAS BECAUSE ANOTHER CLIENT HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. HE AGREED THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
FUEL ODOR NOTED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS SURROUNDING EXTERIOR OF VEHICLE, ESP. ADJACENT TO LEFT REAR WHEEL. NO FUEL PUDDLING NOTED ON GROUND. EVENTUALLY FUEL ODOR WAS NOTED WITHIN INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. REMOVAL OF REAR SEAT BENCH REVEALED FUEL LEAK, WITH FUEL POOLING NOTED AT FUEL PUMP LOCATED IN WELL ON UPPER LEFT SIDE OF PLASTIC SADDLE-STYLE FUEL TANK. BASED ON FUEL-INDUCED DISCOLORATION OF EXTERIOR OF PLASTIC PUMP ASSEMBLY, LEAK HAD BEEN PRESENT FOR SOME TIME. FUEL COULD BE VISUALIZED LEAKING FROM TOP OF DELIVERY PUMP WITH FLUID LEVEL SENSOR, WHEN PUMP WAS ENERGIZED. INSTALLATION OF NEW STYLE PUMP (211 470 41 94) ELIMINATED PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THE FUEL UNIT AND FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WE HAVE NOTICED AN EXTREMELY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL. THIS IS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND WHILE IT IS MOVING. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE FUEL TANK IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A FIRE HAZARD. UPDATED 8/22/13 *CN *TR
NOTICED A FUEL SMELL IN CABIN OF CAR AND IN CLOSED GARAGE. VERY STRONG WHEN RECENTLY FILLED UP. BROUGHT TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND LEAKING FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY ON DRIVERS SIDE. REQUIRED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF FUEL SYSTEM. UPDATED 9/19/13 *CN
GAS SMELL IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR AND OUTSIDE THE CAR - SMELLS LIKE A GAS LEAK UNDER THE BACK SEAT. *JB
AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GAS IN THE GARAGE. THIS GOES AWAY AFTER 50-100 MILES ON THE TANK OF GAS. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY GAS LEAKING ON THE GARAGE, JUST THE ODOR. IT SEEMS STRONGER ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR. ODOR RECURS AFTER EACH FILL UP. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE ENGINE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
LETTER FROM SENATOR WARNER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE MERCEDES BENZ (ATTN: SHANE CLEM). *SMD THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. HIS WIFE SUFFERED A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A LOSS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FUMES EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ACCUMULATION OF FUEL UNDER THE REAR SEATS DUE TO A FUEL PUMP LEAK. IN ADDITION, THE EVAP SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK AND EVAP SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
FILLED AUTO WITH FUEL FOR FIRST TIME AND DROVE HOME, PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND STARTED TO SMELL GAS FUMES FROM DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER SEAT AREA. LEARNED THAT THERE IS NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12001 PERTAINING TO E55 WHICH WAS PREVIOUS YEAR MODEL TO MINE. THREAT OF FIRE UNDER WHERE MY CHILD SITS IS UNACCEPTABLE. MY EARLY MODEL E63 WITH SAME FUEL ISSUES SHOULD BE COVERED. PLEASE COVER THIS MODEL AND MODEL YEAR AS WELL! *TR
AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK NOTICED A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE LEAKS IN THE GROUND OUR UNDER THE CAR. CONTINUED TO DRIVE CAR AND AS FUEL LEVEL DROPPED THE SMELL WENT AWAY. FILLED UP FOR SECOND TIME AND SMELL WAS BACK AGAIN. BEGAN RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE AND DISCOVERED THERE WERE 533 OFFICIALLY REPORTED COMPLAINTS AND A LOT MORE UN-REPORTED. SPOKE WITH [XXX] (SERVICE MANAGER) AND MERCEDES BENZ OF PLANO TEXAS AND HE INFORMED ME THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. NATHAN RECOMMENDED I CALL THE MERCEDES BENZ USA CUSTOMER SUPPORT NUMBER AND DISCUSS IT WITH THEM. I DID THIS AS [XXX] REQUESTED AND I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE MERCEDES DEALER OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSE THE GAS SMELL ISSUE BEFORE THEY COULD PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. CUSTOMER SERVICE RECOMMENDED THAT I PAY THE DEALER THE $90 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND THEN SUBMIT THE PAPERWORK TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. ONCE THAT IS COMPLETE MERCEDES BENZ USA WOULD DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THEY WERE GOING TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE AND FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. DEALER REPLACED ENGINE ONCE. I REPORTED THE FIRST INCIDENT ON CONFIRMATION NUMBER (ODI NUMBER) IS: 10507237. THIS SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT 13 JULY 2013, CAR STARTED HAVING ILLUMINATING ODOR IN THE CABIN AGAIN THAT RESEMBLED FUEL. GARAGE AND CAR ODOR WAS SO BAD IT ACTUALLY ENTERED MY HOME AND I HAD TO LEAVE THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN TO VENTILATE. WENT ON LINE AND FOUND OTHER OWNERS EXHIBITING EXACT DEFECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO MERCEDES DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS THE CAUSE AGAIN AND IT WAS NOT FROM DAMAGE BUT FROM THE SENDING UNIT AND LINES. AFTER READING THE WARRANTY AND CONTACTING MERCEDES DIRECTLY, I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM THAT IT IS A COVERED ITEM AND THEY SHOULD MAKE THE REPAIR AS A WARRANTIED ITEM. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THE REPLACEMENT UNIT WILL BE THE SAME OEM PART THAT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED TO SOLVE THIS FAILURE FROM DUPLICATING LATER. *TR

LOOKED INTO PROBLEM AND FOUND A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS SENSING UNIT ON THE LEFT SIDE UNDER THE REAR SEAT. FOUND THE LARGE NUT LOOSE AND TIGHTENED. FILLED GAS TANK AGAIN ON 4/21/14 AFTER PARTIALLY FILLING IN THE INTERIM. THE NEXT MORNING THE GARAGE HAD A GASOLINE ODOR. REMOVED SEAT AND FOUND THE ENTIRE AREA WAS FILLED WITH GASOLINE, PROBABLY ABOUT 100 CC. REMOVED GASOLINE AND DROVE 50 MILES. RETURNED CAR TO GARAGE. AFTER FOUR HOURS GASOLINE ODOR IS IN GARAGE AND THE SENSING UNIT IS DAMP WITH GASOLINE. CALLED MERCEDES DEALER AND SET AN INSPECTION DATE. *TR
HAD FUEL TANK SENDER UNITS REPAIRED TO STOP FUEL LEAK , LESS THAN 2 YEARS THE TANK IS LEAKING AGAIN FROM THE SENDER UNITS , DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR IT . *JS
FILLED MY CAR UP WITH GAS AND AFTER DRIVING IT HOME THERE IS A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. LOOKING ONLINE I SEE THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH THE E63 AMG CARS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS, AND IT IS A FAULTY FUEL SENDER UNIT THAT IS LITERALLY LEAKING FUEL OUT. *TR
WHEN I FILL-UP THERE IS ALWAYS THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAR AND OUTSIDE IN THE GARAGE WHEN PARKED AND ROLLING.

THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL LINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIKE CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE "BALANCE SHAFT GEAR" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD COST $5,500 MINIMUM. I HAVE SINCE THEN LEARNED THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT HAS EFFECTED LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF M272 ENGINES THAT MERCEDES BENZ KNOWINGLY USED EVEN AFTER LEARNING THAT THE METAL COMPONENTS OF THIS VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE CARS ENGINE WOULD NOT LAST. THE PART TYPICALLY FAILS AFTER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND THEREFORE IS NOT COVERED BY THE DEALERSHIP OR MERCEDES BENZ. A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS FILED IN 2011 AND THE JUDGE IN THE CASE FAILED TO RULE IN FAVOR OF THE CONSUMER. I HAVE READ WHERE WHEN THIS DEFECTIVE PART FAILS IT CAN CERTAINLY CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR PASSENGERS IN THE AUTOMOBILE. MANY OWNERS HAVE DESCRIBED THE FAILURE OF THIS PART AS FAILING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE ENGINE AND STEERING ARE SEVERELY AFFECTED.

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES. DEALER STATED THAT THERE MAY BE A LEAK ON TOP OF GAS TANK OR TANK MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. PREVIOUS OWNER STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS IN VEHICLE WHEN TANK IS FULL. PREVIOUS OWNER HAD SAME ISSUE AFTER CAR WAS ONLY FOUR YEARS OF AGE. *TR
STRONG GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE CAR AND MY GARAGE WHEN I FILL UP MY GAS TANK.
SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR ON 3/13/2013 WE NOTICED THAT AFTER WE FILLED UP THE CAR THERE WAS OFTEN THE SMELL OF GASOLINE. THIS NEVER OCCURED WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS NOT COMPLETELY FILLED. AFTER A NUMBER OF TIMES INVESTIGATING THIS SMELL, OUR AUTO MECHANIC WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE CENTER VENT CONNECTION OF THE TANK. THE FUEL TANK WAS REMOVED AND THEY FOUND THELEAK AROUND THE CENTER VENT HOSE CONNECTION. THE FUEL TANK AND SEALS WERE REPLACED ON 8/30/13. UPDATED 9/24/13 *CN UPDATED 12/05/13
I FOUND LEAKING LIQUID CLOSE TO THE REAR LEFT WHEEL AND WHEN LIFTING THE REAR WHEEL I FOUND LEAKING LIQUID FROM THE TANK. AFTER SMELLING AND TOUCHING I REALIZE IS GASOLINE . I CHECK IN THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND I FOUND A LOT OF SAME COMPLAINTS. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE TIRES ON VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED ON DECEMBER 1, 2011. HE FOUND AN AIR BUBBLE ON ONE OF THE TIRES ON APRIL 16, 2013. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPAIR SHOP FILED A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER, BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY DID SO WITHOUT SPECIFYING THE TRUE REASON FOR THE CLAIM, WHICH WAS AN AIR BUBBLE. THE CLAIM WAS NOT FOR WEAR AND TEAR, AS INDICATED ON THE INVOICE. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT, DUE TO THE TIRE BEING DEFECTIVE.
STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AFTER REFUELING. *TR
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE LOCAL MERCEDES DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS RESULT ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS A CAMSHAFT BALANCING ROD PROBLEM AND THE ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE BALANCING ROD WAS QUOTE AT $6500. I DID SUBSEQUENTLY LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THEIR ARE SIMILAR OCCURRENCES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE CONCLUSION IS THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR THIS ENGINE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AGREED THAT IT IS TOO EARLY FOR ANY ENGINE TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND CALLED MERCEDES BENZ THEY DECLINE TO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING EACH TIME IT WAS FILLED BEYOND 3/4. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I REPORTED TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A STRONG FUEL SMELL WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE FULL AND PARKING IT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, MY MECHANIC DISCOVERED A FUEL LEAK FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE TANK ONTO THE LEFT EXHAUST WHICH OF COURSE CAN CREATE A FIRE HAZARD. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY LOCAL MB DEALERSHIP AND SPENT DAYS TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. FINALLY AFTER CONTACTING THE MB CENTRAL REGION OFFICE, I LEFT A VM AND WAS CONTACTED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER I HAD BEEN TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH. AS OF TODAY 4/8/13, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP IS LEAKING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, THEY REPLIED NO, BUT HAPPILY SENT ME ON MY WAY ANYHOW. THIS PROBLEM LINES UP WITH EVERY OTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT THE MY03-09 W211'S THAT EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FUEL LEAKING TO THE GROUND AND POOLING UP, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SENDING UNIT IS INDEED LEAKING AND POOLING UP IN THE DEPRESSION WHERE THE SENDING UNIT ATTACHES TO THE TANK, WHICH IS NOW LEAKING ONTO MY DRIVERS SIDE EXHAUST, THUS CREATING POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE HAZARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE REFUELED, THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR IN THE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND A SEAL WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
PURCHASED CAR ON 2/12/2013. FILLED CAR UP WITH GAS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON SATURDAY 3/23/2013. GARAGE AND CAR SMELL LIKE GAS SO BAD IT ACTUALLY ENTERED MY HOME AND I HAD TO LEAVE THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN TO VENTILATE. PURCHASED VEHICLE NOV 2012, FILLED CAR UP FOR THE FIRST TIME 3/20/13 FOR OUT OF TOWN TRIP. NOTICED VERY STRONG GAS ODOR IN BACK SEAT. DID NOT RE-FILL WHILE OUT OF TOWN DUE TO POSSIBLE LEAKING FUEL SENDING UNIT AND/OR GAS TANK. *TR
FUEL SMELL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. FUEL SMELL GRADUALLY LESSENED WHEN THE TANK WAS ABOUT 3/4 TO 1/2 EMPTY. TOOK THE CAR TO MB DEALER AND THEY CHANGED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT UNDER THE REAR SEAT BEHIND THE DRIVER. IT COST ABOUT $700. I KEPT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND LOOKING AT IT UNDER MAGNIFICATION, I CAN SEE BAD WORKMANSHIP AROUND THE SENDING UNIT NOT BEING SEALED PROPERLY, IT WAS BAD FROM THE MOMENT IT WAS PLACED IN THE CAR. THIS ITEM SHOULD NOT GO BAD ON A CAR LESS THAN 6 YEARS OLD THAT HAS ONLY ABOUT 20,000 MILES AND ALWAYS GARAGED. SHAME ON MERCEDES BENZ THAT DID NOT RECALL THIS ITEM. *TR
TOOK IN VEHICLE FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF THE CAM MAGNETS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (ADVISED TO HAVE ALL 4 REPLACED). ACCORDING TO SERVICE ADVISER THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2007 AND PRIOR YEAR E-CLASS VEHICLES AND THAT THE CAM MAGNETS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THE COMPLETE REPLACING OF THE 4 CAM MAGNETS WAS MORE THAN $600 FOR SERVICE (BEFORE TAXES). THE SERVICE ADVISER ALSO STATED THE OTHER PROBLEM THIS VEHICLE CONSECUTIVELY COMES IN FOR IS A FAULTY GAS TANK THAT IS PRONE TO CRACK WHICH REQUIRED THE GAS TANK TO BE REPLACED. MERCEDES-BENZ SHOULD CLEARLY ADDRESS THE ABOVE ISSUES ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I PULL UP AT THE GAS STATION(SHELL) AND FILL UP MY GAS TANK....AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK...THERE WAS THE SMELL OF GAS IN MY WHOLE CAR CABIN. I TOOK MY CAR TO MERCEDES BENZ OF SOUTH CHARLOTTE, CHARLOTTE, NC. ON 3/13/2013. THE SERVICE ADVISOR([XXX]) TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT WAS BAD...THERE WAS ALSO FUEL LEAK IN MY GARAGE...THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE SENDING UNIT AND THE WHOLE GAS TANK....THAT WOULD COST $3750.00. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO SAID THS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE E350... AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THESE. AFTER FILLING UP MY FUEL TANK COMPLETELY FULL, I FOUND THAT AFTER HAVING MY CAR IN THE GARAGE FOR A FEW HOURS IT HAD A NOTICEABLE ODOR OF GASOLINE BOTH IN THE GARAGE AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE MY OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN IN MARCH 2012 AND IS STILL AN ISSUE ONE YEAR LATER. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH RECENTLY ON MBWORLD.ORG, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY "FUEL SENDER" ASSEMBLY THAT WAS CAUSING GASOLINE TO LEAK AND POSSIBLY POOL ON TOP OF THE TANK. WHILE THERE ARE NO VISIBLE LEAKS, I AM QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT THE GASOLINE VAPORS, AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THE W211 VEHICLE AND MERCEDES-BENZ HAS THUS FAR REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS TO MAKE MY VEHICLE SAFE AGAIN.
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE, MAINLY WITH SUSPENSION AND WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE FUEL SYSTEM IN 3/13 AND ONCE AGAIN I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH LEAKAGE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR IN JUNE 2012. ON OR ABOUT FEB 2013, CAR STARTED HAVING ILLUMINATING ODOR IN THE CABIN THAT RESEMBLED FUEL OR ANTI-FREEZE. GARAGE AND CAR ODOR WAS SO BAD IT ACTUALLY ENTERED MY HOME AND I HAD TO LEAVE THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN TO VENTILATE. WENT ON LINE AND FOUND OTHER OWNERS EXHIBITING EXACT DEFECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO MERCEDES DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS THE CAUSE AND IT WAS NOT FROM DAMAGE BUT FROM THE SENDING UNIT AND LINES. THE DEALER INFORMS ME THAT THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THAT IT WILL COST $2100.00 TO FIX. AFTER READING THE WARRANTY AND CONTACTING MERCEDES DIRECTLY, I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM THAT IT IS A COVERED ITEM AND THEY SHOULD MAKE THE REPAIR AS A WARRANTIED ITEM. THEY RE-CHECKED WITH MERCEDES AND CALLED ME BACK AND STATED THAT THEY HAD "DID SOMETHING IN THE SYSTEM TO MAKE IT REJECT" AND IT IS A COVERED REPAIR AND WILL BE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THE REPLACEMENT UNIT WILL BE THE SAME OEM PART THAT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED TO SOLVE THIS FAILURE FROM DUPLICATING LATER. *TR
