No warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure NHTSA Campaign: 16V899000(Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 42 MPH, THE BLIND STOP DETECTION MONITORING SYSTEM AND OTHER UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATORS MALFUNCTIONED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN TO THE RIGHT. ALSO, WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE AND CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A DITCH. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 MERCEDES-BENZ E250. WHILE DRIVING 4 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES DISENGAGED SIMULTANEOUSLY AND WAS UNABLE TO BE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (MERCEDES-BENZ OF EUGENE, OREGON, LOCATED AT 2200 MARTIN LUTHER KING JR BLVD, 97401 (541) 687-8888), BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS WEAK. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND OFFERED TO EVALUATE THE VEHICLE OVER A FOUR WEEK PERIOD. VEHICLE SENSORS RELATING TO STEERING AND TIRES PROVIDED INCORRECT AND DANGEROUS INFORMATION THAT ADVERSELY AFFECTED THE STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE DEPARTING A SUBURBAN, RESIDENTIAL ROADWAY WHILE IN MOTION, STRIKING A TREE AND KILLING THE DRIVER AND INJURING TWO PASSENGERS.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER SIX TIMES IN A FOUR MONTH PERIOD OF TIME. MOST PROBLEMS WERE RELATED TO ELECTRONICS. HEAD UNIT CENTER CONSOLE MADE A LOUD "A BALL ROLLING AROUND" NOISE WITH 24 HOURS OF BUYING THE CAR. RADIO WOULD INTERMITTENTLY WORK. CLOCK WOULD NOT KEEP TIME. THESE THREE ITEMS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT KEEP MEMORY. ENGINE COOLING FAN WOULD RUN FOR HOURS AFTER VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED. THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. FRONT TRIM PANEL FOR BUMPER WAS NOT ALIGNED.
