The contact's husband then verified that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was fractured and needed to be replaced. The dealer diagnosed and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V793000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken for State Inspection, where it was diagnosed with evaporated emission system leak related to the canister purge valve. The contact's husband replaced the canister purge valve; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS CHECKED AND THE FUEL VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK FRACTURED AND LEAKED FUEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR FOUR WEEKS NOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEGACY FORD (413 INDUSTRIAL BLVD, MCDONOUGH, GA 30253, (770) 914-2800) ONE YEAR AGO TO BE REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING DID NOT REVEAL A CODE REGARDING A VAPOR LOCK FAILURE THAT MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO SMELL A FUEL ODOR ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2019 AND SHE NOTICED A HUGE PUDDLE OF FUEL ON THE DRIVEWAY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS SHOWN THE STRESS CRACK ON THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FAILURE WAS FROM THE RECALL REPAIR A YEAR EARLIER; HOWEVER, THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE THE CONTACT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE DEALER AND CONTACT HAD NOT HEARD BACK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VEHICLE AND I LOOKED IT UP WITH MY VIN NUMBER AND IT SAID I HAD A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I'M UPLOADING THE NOTICE
FUEL TANK & CANISTER PURGE VALVE RECALL - 15S34 RECALL - VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED FOR RECALL IN AUGUST 2016 AND PASSED THE RECALL AND THE RECALL WAS CLOSED BY FORD. IN JULY 2017, THE VEHICLE HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MESSAGE TO CHECK FUEL TANK INLET THAT WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF IN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE WAS RELATED TO THE EVAP SYSTEM. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED THE RECALL IN 2016. THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE FAILED AND THE FUEL FILLER PIPE HAD LEAKS AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SUBMITTED A 360 CLAIM FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR. THE 360 CLAIM WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUTSIDE THE 7 YEARS OF SERVICE AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE CLAIM BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN CLOSED.
ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND INTERMITTENTLY SMELLED GAS OR GOT FUEL FILL CHECK INDICATOR. UPON DIAGNOSTIC MIL P0455 AND P0457. CANISTER PURGE VALVE HAD TO BE REPLACED PAID $300. GOING THROUGH MY RECORDS I FOUND THAT ON APRIL 5,2016, I HAD A RECALL 15S34 FUEL TANK AND CANISTER PURGE VALVE INSPECTION COMPLETED. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF CRACKS OR LEAKS SO ONLY RECALIBRATION WAS COMPLETED. NOW LESS THAN 10,000 MILES LATER A REPLACEMENT WAS NEEDED. AWAITING REVIEW FOR A REFUND FROM FORD DEALERSHIP

THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CURED!!! FORD REPAIRED VEHICLE FOR FREE, AS MERCURY MILAN HYBRID IS COVERED FOR 100,000 MILES AND 8 YEARS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED A PUMP FOR ANTIFREEZE FOR THE HYBRID TRANSMISSION AND THAT CURED THE PROBLEM OF THE YELLOW WRENCH AND THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE CODE. ALL IS WELL!

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CODE FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM INDICATED TO INSPECT THE FUEL TANK AND VMV VALVE. AN EVAPORATION TEST WAS ALSO PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED A SECOND TIME. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (15V-793) FROM FORD IN JANUARY 2016 ABOUT THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE, VAPOR CANISTER, GAS TANK, AND POWER CONTROL MODULE ON MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY DID AN ELECTRONIC TEST AND SAID IT WAS OK. ONE MONTH LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CODE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE PRIOR RECALLED CANISTER PURGE VALVE. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID THEIR ELECTRONIC TEST AGAIN AND SAID IT WAS THE GAS TANK FILL TUBE VALVE. FOUR DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CODES AGAIN SAID IT WAS THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE. THIS TIME THE DEALER DID AS I ASKED THEM AND MECHANICALLY CHECKED THE VALVE, AND DISCOVERED THAT IT AND THE VAPOR CANISTER HAD FAILED. HOWEVER, FORD WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR. IS THIS ALLOWED? I WILL MAIL A LETTER WITH MORE DETAIL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, THIS PARTICULAR VALVE COMMONLY FAILED BY STICKING OPEN OR CLOSED AND THE ONLY WAY TO DETECT IT, WAS TO DO A MECHANICAL TEST BY TAKING THE HOSES OFF AND CHECKING FOR PRESSURE OR VACUUM. THE DEALER DID NOT PERFORM THE TEST PROPERLY. UPDATED 05/31/16.*JB

WHILE PASSING THREE SEMI TRUCKS IN THE THIRD LANE OF A HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE POWER CUT OUT. NAVIGATING ACROSS THREE LANES OF HIGHWAY THROUGH MULTIPLE VEHICLES WAS TERRIFYING. MY LIFE WAS PLACED WITH IN JEOPARDY, YET THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE ITS THROTTLE BODY CONTROL PROBLEM AS A SAFETY ISSUE.

VEHICLE MALFUNCTION AND ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT EXCEED 40-45 M.P.H. ON LEVEL GRADES AND 20 ON SLIGHT INCLINES.MANAGED TO RETURN CAR HOME. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER ON 10/26/2015.WHEN VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON AND ONLY THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. CAR ACTED NORMAL ON TRIP TO DEALER. TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT FORD HAS EXTENDED COVERAGE ON THIS PART FOR 10YEARS AND 150,000 MILES. FORD BULLETIN 13NO3. WAS TOLD BY FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HYBRIDS WERE NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME PART NUMBER.THE COVERAGE WAS BASED ON WHERE THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED AND WHO THE PART SUPPLIER WAS. OH REALLY? THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT SPECIFIC PART WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE PART BIN AND INSTALLED? THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO COVER ALL THE VEHICLES EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEM.OR DOES IT TAKE A LARGE INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE NUMBER TO GET THIS TO HAPPEN. NARROW STREET. LIT THE HAZARD FLASHERS, EXITED CAR. AFTER 15 MINUTES RE-ENTERED CAR WHICH STARTED AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS; (6) OCTOBER 7, 2015: 1405: WITHIN A BLOCK AFTER LEAVING OUR HOUSE, THE CAR ENGINE AGAIN BLUBBERED THEN DIED, WRENCH LIT. PULLED TO THE CURB, SAT FOR FIVE MINUTES. CAR WAS RESTARTED. THREE TIMES I HAVE BROUGHT MY MILAN TO OUR LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE GURU WHO ATTACHED HIS SCANNER AND CONFORMED 2111 CODE AND 2112 CODES (2). I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM ENTERPRISE SALES RENTALS AT 24,000 MILES, NOW 58,000 MILES. NEVER HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE OF ANY TYPE. RESEARCH INDICATES A NUMBER OF TSBS RELATED TO THROTTLE BODY ISSUES BUT NO NOTICE FROM FOMOC OR LOCAL DEALER. THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR BEING KILLED IN THIS CAR. HOW TO GET THE CAR PROPERLY REPAIRED?
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON THE INTERSTATE IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND DROPPED TO AROUND 1000 RPM NO MATTER IF I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR OR NOT. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI AND THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY LANE FOR ME TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO. IT COSTED FOR ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE UNTIL I COULD PULL BEHIND SOME ORANGE BARRIERS. AFTER SHUTTING IT OFF AND CALLING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WAS FINE. I TOOK BACK ROADS HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY WHILE GOING 65 ON THE INTERSTATE IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT I WAS PREPARED FOR A PROBLEM AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO AN EMERGENCY LANE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT RESTARTED FINE AND DROVE FINE AGAIN UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN IT HAPPENED AT 20MPH ON A CITY STREET. THE DEALER HAS HAD IT FOR 3 DAYS NOW AND HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE.
THE FUEL TANK HAS A DEVELOPED A CRACK. THIS HAS BEEN EXAMINED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO CONCLUDED THE CRACK IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT THE RESULT OF ANY SORT OF ROAD DEBRIS OR ANYTHING STRIKING THE TANK. THE MECHANIC INDICATES THIS TYPE OF CRACK IS COMMON IN THE MERCURY MILAN AND FORD FUSION. *TR
