"TAKATA RECALL" ENGINE ALWAYS TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. I FIXED IT AT 3 DIFFERENT WORKSHOPS AND STILL THE SAME.
MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WAS LEAKING COOLANT DUE TO A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS, I HAVE LEARNED THAT HAS BEEN A LONG STANDING ISSUE WITH MANY OF THIS VEHICLES OWNERS. UNFORTUNATELY FOR OWNERS, FORD ISSUED A TBS IN 2009 JUST IN TIME FOR MOST OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES' WARRANTIES TO EXPIRE. SOME OWNERS ARE ON THEIR 3RD OR MORE RADIATOR REPLACEMENT, I AM ONLY ON MY FIRST. I PETITION THAT FORD RECALLS THIS ISSUE BEFORE MYSELF AND OTHERS HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PAY FOR THIS CLEAR DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THEIR HARD OWNED MONEY. THIS PROBLEM ALSO POSES SAFETY RISK TO THE PASSENGERS OPERATING THESE VEHICLES AND TO ANY ANIMALS ATTRACTED TO THE SWEET SMELL OF THE COOLANT FROM AFFECTED VEHICLES WHOSE OWNERS WHO MAY NOT YET KNOW THIS ISSUE OR CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX IT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT EIGHT SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND A COIL PACK WAS PLACED TO PREVENT THE SPARK PLUGS FROM BLOWING OUT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAILURE OF THE WATER MANIFOLD HOUSING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS DRIVING 70 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND STEAM WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE WATER MANIFOLD HOUSING HAD COME APART, ALLOWING WATER TO BOIL OUT. THE HOUSING WAS PLASTIC AND MADE OF TWO PARTS. THE TOP AND BOTTOM WERE GLUED TOGETHER AND WITHIN THE TOTAL CIRCUMFERENCE OF ABOUT 18 INCHES, THERE WERE ONLY THREE BOLTS BETWEEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM HOUSINGS TO SECURE THE TWO PARTS TOGETHER, EXCEPT THE GLUE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE CONSTRUCTION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM FROM SEPARATING UNDER PRESSURE. IT APPEARED, THE DESIGN CREATED A TENDENCY FOR THE TOP PLATE TO PULL AWAY FROM THE LOWER HOUSING. THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL A NEW HOUSING, BUT HE DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING, SO THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE LONG BLOCK ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED.*JB

HAD A LEAK IN MY RADIATOR WHEN THE TRUCK HAD LESS THEN 25,000 (SUMMER OF 2009?) MILES LOGGED ON IT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED IT FOR FREE BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. AGAIN THIS SPRING, WITH MY ODOMETER AT 52000 MILES, IT HAS ANOTHER LEAK AND I WAS QUOTED $800 TO GET IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS B.S.! OBVIOUSLY IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED YET BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO LEAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, OR THE $800 TO REPLACE A RADIATOR THAT SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AFTER SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF USE. THE RADIATOR COOLANT SYSTEM IS JUNK. BUSTED SEALS AND HOSES ALL THE TIME. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THIS CAR IS A LEMON. I REPLACED MY RADIATOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR AGO, HAD THE PART REPLACED WITH THE FACTORY PART FORD SUPPLIES AND ONCE AGAIN I HAVE A BUSTED SEAL AND HAVE TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AGAIN. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RECALL THIS PART? SERIOUSLY I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH AND THE RADIATORS ON THESE VEHICLES BUSTING ISN'T AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IS FORD GOING TO PAY $400.00 DOLLARS EVERY 6 OR SO MONTHS TO REPLACE MY RADIATOR. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD FILE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT OR SOMETHING. *TR
I HAVE LEAK IN MY RADIATOR, AND AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT TYPE OF RADIATOR IN THAT VEHICLE, AND EVERY ONE OF THE CASES IS IDENTICAL AND NOW I AM THE NEXT VICTIM OF THIS RADIATOR FAILURE. SOME THING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE RADIATOR PROBLEMS MERCURY IS HAVING ON THE 2006 MOUNTAINEERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. IN ADDITION, HE NOTICED THAT WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND JERK VIOLENTLY INTO THE CORRECT GEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
