VEHICLE COMING OFF TURNPIKE ENTERING ONTO THE INTERSTATE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 45 MPH ONTO THE INTERSTATE ALMOST RAN OVER BY VEHICLES WHEN I WAS COMING OFF THE RAMP. VERY DANGEROUS. MANAGED TO GET VAN TO A SAFE PLACE WHERE WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR HOME. WE HAD OUR MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE DIAGNOSED IT AS THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS NEEDED REPLACING AND IT HAD JUMPED TIME. HE WOULD NOT TOUCH IT SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED FOR THIS YEAR VAN CONCERNING THE TENSIONERS. HAD IT THEN TOWED TO NISSAN AND THEY QUOTED 1700 TO FIX THE MECHANIC EVEN STATED THAT IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND HE IS SEEING AT LEAST 1 A WEEK WITH THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. BUT NISSAN WONT ISSUE A RECALL. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOME FATALITIES FOR THEM TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE THIS IS SERIOUS. AFTER WORK PERFORMED TO VAN THEY CALLED AND SAID IT IS STILL MISFIRING THAT THEY FOUND VALVE COVER LEAKING OIL ON SPARK PLUGS ANOTHER 600 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS. I JUST REPLACED SPARK PLUGS IN 2010. ALSO REPLACED BRAKES 3 TIMES AND TIRES 2 TIMES NOW. ALTERNATOR ALSO REPLACED. I BOUGHT THIS VAN HOPING IT WOULD BE A SAFE AND RELIABLE VAN FOR MY FAMILY TO ENJOY FOR A LONG TIME IT HAS LOW MILES AND I HATE TO GET RID OF IT. I AM AT THE POINT THOUGH THAT I KEEP PUTTING MONEY INTO IT THINKING WE WILL BE ABLE TO BE SAFE AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD RECALL ALL MODELS AFFECTED AND FIX THIS PLASTIC TENSIONER ON THE METAL CHAIN, THEY KNOW BETTER THIS IS A WAY FOR THEM TO BECOME RICHER OFF THE PEOPLE THAT TRUSTED THEM. NEVER WILL MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS BUY NISSAN AGAIN> SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE TALKED WITH MANY PEOPLE THAT OWN OR HAVE OWNED A QUEST AND THEY WERE NOT HAPPY EITHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS PUMP ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RUMBLING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ALL OF THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATED THE SLIP WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL WHEN APPLIED. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY PUMP THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THEY INSPECTED THE LINES AND THE BRAKES BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,081.
WHENEVER WE HIT THE BRAKES OUR 2004 NISSAN QUEST SHUTTERS AND SHAKES. WE FIRST REPORTED THE PROBLEM AT ABOUT 23,000 MILES. VAN HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. MECHANIC CAN NEVER FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON OUR OWN WE HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED BOTH ORIGINAL ROTORS HAD WARPED, REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS THREE TIMES, AND TURNED THE ROTORS 6 MONTHS AFTER REPLACING THEM (79K MILES). VAN GOES BACK INTO THE DEALER NEXT WEEK AGAIN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED AGAIN AS IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I AM STATIONED WITH THE MILITARY AWAY FROM HOME, AND MY WIFE USES THE QUEST AS HER ONLY TRANSPORTATION WITH OUR TODDLERS, OLDER CHILDREN, AND GUESTS. VAN NOW HAS 114K MILES. *TR
THE BRAKES HAVE TO BE CHANGED AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES A YEAR, AND ROTORS HAD TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE THEY WERE ABOUT A 1/2 IN. GONE. STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE EVERY TIME I HAD TO BRAKE. BRAKES NEVER STOP SQUEAKING. FINALLY HAD TO PUT NEW CALIPERS IN ABOUT A WEEK AGO I FINALLY THOUGHT MY BRAKES WOULD BE WORKING FINE AGAIN. WORKED GOOD FOR ONE DAY, SQUEAKING CAME BACK EVERY TIME I BRAKE, STILL HEAR SCRAPPING NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. ONE PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER WITH THIS CAR. WHEN IT RAINS FROM FRONT WINDOW LEAKS INTO THE GLASSES HOLDER SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. YESTERDAY THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR HAS A HOOK AT THE BACK OF THE DOOR WHEN IT CLOSES IT HOOKS TO IT ALSO, THE PIECE FELL INTO THE DOOR NOW THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE RIGHT. THE SENSOR THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN SO NOW THE BOTTOM LIGHTS STAY ON. THIS WAS THE WORSE PURCHASE I MAY HAVE DONE. SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR ITS BEEN PROBLEMS KNOW WONDER THEY ONLY GAVE A 3 YEAR WARRANTY ON IT. SOMETIMES I PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AND IT FAILS TO TAKE OFF, SO I HAVE TO PUT TURN IT OFF WAIT A FEW SECONDS THEN TRY IT AGAIN. SO WHAT IS NEXT TO FAIL? EVEN THE BACK PANEL THAT COVERS THE LIGHTS NEAR THE LICENSE PLATE FELL OFF. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM I WORRY ABOUT IS THE BRAKES BECAUSE I HAVE 5 KIDS I REALLY THINK THIS IS A DEFECT ON THIS CAR AND FROM WHAT I READ I AM NOT ALONE ON THE BRAKE ISSUE. VAN WAS IN SERVICE TO REPAIR A BROKEN CD PLAYER. DURING THE VISIT, THE DEALER PERFORMED A FREE 21 POINT INSPECTION, AND FOUND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE BRAKE PADS. THE BRAKE PADS WERE CHANGED AND ROTORS RESURFACED 6,000 MILES AGO. THE VAN HAS ONLY 21,000 MILES. THIS IS THE THIRD SET OF BRAKE PADS THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, ROTORS WERE RESURFACED TWICE AND REPLACED INITIALLY AT 4,000 MILES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE AT 4,000 MILES WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SECOND INCIDENT, WHICH OCCURRED AT 15,000 WAS NOT COVERED, CITING THAT IT WAS A WEAR ITEM. THE RECENT OCCURRENCE AT 21000 MILES WHICH REQUIRED NEW SET OF PADS AND RESURFACING OF THE ROTOR WAS TAKEN CARE BY THE DEALER AS A GOODWILL GESTURE. NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE CONCERNS OF PUBLIC SAFETY. PROPER AGENCY SHOULD ALSO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER FURTHER, BECAUSE IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
CAR VIBRATES BADLY WHILE BRAKING. HAS BEEN TO DEALER THREE TIMES FOR PROBLEM BUT NOT FIXED. *TR
BETWEEN THE DATES OF FEB 10-17, 2008; MY 2004 NISSAN QUEST MINIVAN BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE TCS, SLIP, AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASH AND A HUMMING NOISE WAS COMING FROM MY ENGINE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (WERE I PURCHASED IT FROM), AND AS I PULLED INTO THE LOT THE LIGHTS WENT OFF (FEB 28). THE SERVICE REP. TOLD ME THE INFORMATION SHOULD BE STORED IN MY VAN'S COMPUTER SYSTEM. I PAID $97.40 FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO HOOK MY CAR UP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT ABS SYSTEM PUMP AND MODULE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1790. THE SERVICE REP ALSO TOLD ME THAT WHAT EVER WAS CAUSING THE HUMMING NOISE WOULD BE REPAIRED. ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX, BECAUSE ON MY WAY BACK HOME THE NOISE STARTED AGAIN. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONAL BUT MY ABS UNIT DID NOT AFFECT MY NORMAL BRAKES. UNTIL I COULD HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE, AND WITH NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY VAN. I CALLED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASK IF THERE WAS ANYWAY FOR THEM TO DISCONNECT THE ABS SYSTEM BECAUSE IT WAS CONTINUING TO DRAIN MY BATTERY. AND I WAS TOLD NO, THE ONLY WAY WAS TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE. ON MARCH 8, I PART MY VAN AND THREE HOURS LATER I RETURNED TO MY VAN AND IT WOULD NOT START. SO IT HAD TO HAVE MY CAR JUMP STARTED AND EVER SINCE THEN HAVE HAD TO REMOVE THE TERMINALS FROM THE BATTERY WHEN I AM NOT USING THE VAN. ON FEB 14, SEVERAL OTHER ISSUE CAME ABOUT: 1. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING 2. ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING 3. AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING SO ONCE I PULLED OVER, I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT WOULD CONTINOUSLY START AND STOP. SO I MADE THE DECISION TO LEAVE THE VAN WHERE IT WAS PARKED. TWO DAYS LATER I RETURNED TO FIND OUT THAT THE VAN HAD ACTUALLY CAUGHT ON FIRE THE ON SATURDAY FEB. 15. SO WHAT AM I TO DO.........? *TR UPDATED
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN QUEST I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ROTORS ABOUT EVERY 5,000 MILES BECAUSE THEY WARP AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL BEARINGS. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE TO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. I CANT AFFORD TO KEEP REPLACING THE ROTORS AND BRAKES IT IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I CONTACTED NISSAN BUT THEY WONT DO ANYTHING, THERE ARE REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ALL OVER THE INTERNET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 55 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY SHAKE AND VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND THE DEALER WOULD ONLY ADVISE THERE WERE NO FAILURES IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONTRIBUTED THE FAILURE TO THE CONTACTS MANNER OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED FIVE TIMES IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE FAILURE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,330 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
THE BRAKES STARTING MAKING A LOUD RUBBING SOUND. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 35,000 MILES SO I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAY ALL THE PADS NEED REPLACED AND A ROTOR NEEDS REPLACED. THIS IS THE THIRD NISSAN BUT FIRST QUEST AND I HAVE PUT OVER 50,000 ON THOSE VEHICLES WITHOUT ISSUES. THEY SAY IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY BECAUSE OF NORMAL WEAR BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS QUICKLY CAN BE NORMAL WEAR. *NM
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED AT 4000 MILES DUE TO STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED. PROBLEM RESURFACED AT 11000MILES. BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT AT 15000 MILES. THEY FOUND ROTORS RUNOUT FOR BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR TO BE EXCESSIVE. RESURFACED FOUR ROTORS AND CHANGED BRAKE PADS. DEALER DID NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY CITING THAT IT WAS A WEAR ITEM. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE PARTS ARE NOT UP TO SPECIFICATION ESPECIALLY WITH THE FAILURE AT 4000 MILES. NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THAT PROBLEM. TWO OCCURANCES WITHIN 10000 MILES IS NOT THE NORM. THE ROTOR THICKNESS FOR THE SUBSEQUENT MODEL IS THICKER THAN ONE USED ON THE 04 MODEL. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, A SCRAPING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE MANUFACTURER EXPRESSED THAT THE BRAKES WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 2/12/2007 - THE CONSUMER HAD AN 1993 QUEST FOR 11 YEARS. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE 2004'S BRAKES ARE SOFTER THAN THE 1993 MODEL. THE 2004'S BRAKES ARE THE SAME SIZE AS THE 1993 QUEST EVENTHOUGH THE WEIGHT HAS INCREASED BY ALMOST 1000 LBS. THE 2007'S BRAKE SIZE HAS BEEN INCREASED. *NM
I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE 2004 NISSAN QUEST. I HAVE HAD TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE I BOUGHT IT WITH 12 MILES IN SEPTEMBER 2004. I THOUGHT THAT THE NISSAN NAME WOULD BE AS GOOD AS THE TOYOTAS THAT I HAVE BOUGHT, WHICH HAVE LASTED WITHOUT TRIPS TO THE DEALER EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. THIS COMPLAINT IS BASED ON HAVING TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTOR AT 29,000 MILES; IT WAS JUST THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL'S BACK. ONCE I LOOKED INTO THE COMPLAINTS LISTED, I REALIZED THAT THIS COULD BE A DESIGN FLAW. WHEN I INQUIRED OF THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE BRAKES WEARING SO QUICKLY, HE STATED IT IS A HEAVY VEHICLE AND IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU DRIVE. HE STATED THAT SOME PEOPLE'S BRAKES ON THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL WEAR OUT EVEN SOONER, AS IF THIS WAS SOME CONSOLATION TO ME. WELL, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 19 YEARS, AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAND NEW VEHICLE NOT ONLY WEAR THROUGH BRAKE PADS SO QUICKLY, BUT RIGHT TO THE ROTORS WITHOUT WARNING!! THAT'S WHAT INFURIATES ME THE MOST; ONCE I HEAR A SIGN THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE THINNING, I GET THE BRAKES REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I AM AWARE THAT IF THEY ARE WORN TO THE ROTORS, THEN THE REPAIR COSTS THREE TIMES AS MUCH. *NM

PROBLEM CAME BACK, THEY THEN RESURFACED THE ROTORS, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND THEY REPLACED 2 ROTORS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 1 YEAR OLD. THE PROBLEM HAS NOW RETURNED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. I AM BEING TOLD THAT I NEED 4 NEW ROTORS AND THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND IS ENDANGERING OUR LIVES AND OTHERS OUT THERE. THE DEALERSHIP ONLY RESURFACED THE 2 FRONT ROTORS. THEY ARE ALL STILL WARPED. MY VAN IS NOT YET 2 YEARS OLD. MANUFACTURER DOES NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE A DEFAULT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF CHANGING THE ROTORS ON A VEHICLE EVERY 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR. WE DO NOT WANT THERE TO BE A STATISTIC OF INJURIES OR DEATHS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT CANNOT BE RECTIFIED. *NM

ON AUGUST 5, 2005, AFTER 16,328 MILES AND SEVERE SHAKING WHEN BRAKING, DEALER TOLD ME HE HAD TO REPLACE FRONT ROTORS. THREE MONTHS LATER, LIGHT SHAKING BEGAN AGAIN. AFTER PERIOD OF DISUSE FOR THREE MONTHS, SHAKING BECAME WORSE AND DEALER TOLD ME HE HAD TO CUT ROTORS AGAIN (NOW I REALIZED THEY WEREN'T REPLACED.) HOWEVER, HE SAID, IT WAS NO LONGER IN THE WARRANTY. IT WAS A RESULT OF MY DRIVING. I'VE HAD THREE NISSANS BEFORE THIS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. ROTORS CUT TWICE IN 30,000 MILES? I DON'T THINK SO. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS QUEST. *NM
