The contact owns a 2018 Tesla Model X equipped with Lexani Tires, Tire Line: LX-20 Performance, Tire Size: 265/45/R20, DOT Number: 1TBA7B95C3724. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud sound coming from the front of the vehicle. After the vehicle was inspected, the contact observed tread separation on the driver’s side rear tire, and that the top tread portion of the tire was separating. Due to the tire failure, the vehicle became inoperable. Additionally, the transmission failed to properly shift into park(P), and there was a wiring harness failure following the failure. Due to the failure the vehicle was not drivable and required to be towed. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23T009000 (TIRES). The tire was a replacement tire. The tire failure mileage was approximately 8,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 78,886.
265 45R 20 As I was driving down the road, I heard a flapping sound. I couldn't pull over right away, as I was in the left lane, and there was a lot of traffic. I pulled over, but I couldn't put the vehicle into park or turn it off! After a family member showed up. i had them put their foot on the brake, while I investigated the issue. I noticed a long piece of tread that was handing from the inner tread. Then I noticed that an entire line of tread was missing as well. The hanging tread cut through the protective lining for the wiring of the vehicle. Then it tore up some wires, which I later came to realize were the brake wires. This is a Tesla, and I was not able to put it into park. The car is is still in drive, with no way of putting it into park or turning it off! This tire has caused significant damage to my rims and vehicle!
Owner of a 2018 Tesla Model X 100D with 35,499 miles had an accident on June 3rd 2021 due to a full thread loss of the passenger front tire. She was driving to work at the speed limit, early in the morning. Without any alert of pressure loss, the thread separated from the tire, causing the whole belt to hit the interior part of the front fender, causing a loss of control of the vehicle until the complete stop. Luckly, no other cars were involved in the accident. Driver was unable to move the car. Later, the car was towed to the Tesla center in Fresno, CA. Four days later, the car was moved to a body shop. The accident caused substantial damage to the car, well above the cost of a new tire. We have contacted Continental customer service and Tesla. Apparently, the tire is being recalled, but neither Tesla or Continental alerted us.
TIRES ARE SEPARATING INTERNALLY AFTER 27K MILES. CONTINENTAL TIRES. THIS TIRE SHOULD BE GOOD FOR 45K MILES. IT HAS NO OTHER PROBLEMS. TESLA SAYS THEY HAVE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THOSE TIRES. WHEN THE TIRE HAS PROBLEMS IT FAULTS ALL THE SAFETY ISSUES OF CAR AND COMPUTER. BIG PROBLEM. ONLY ANSWER IS TO REPLACE ALL OF TIRES AND SEE WHAT WORKS.
FOR 2-3 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE'S RIDE HAS SHUDDERED AND WOBBLED, FROM 1-70 MPH. THE WOBBLE AFFECT IS PARTICULARLY NOTICEABLE WHEN MAKING TURNS, FROM 5+ DEGREES. THE VEHICLE FEELS AS THOUGH A TIRE HAS BEEN BLOWN, BUT THE TIRE SENSORS DO NOT INDICATE ANY TIRE PRESSURE ISSUES. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER'S SERVICE CENTER, THINKING INITIALLY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DRIVETRAIN RELATED. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE CENTER HAS NOTIFIED US THAT THE PROBLEM LIES WITH BOTH REAR TIRES HAVING ISSUES, BOTH INTERNAL SEPARATION AND INTERNAL BUBBLES. THE SERVICE CENTER HAS NOTIFIED US THAT WE MUST PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF THESE TIRES, WHICH ARE THE VEHICLE'S ORIGINAL TIRES WITH APROX. 25,000 MILES. ALL RESEARCH WE CAN FIND ON INTERNAL SEPARATION AND INTERNAL BUBBLES INDICATES A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WE ARE GRATEFUL THE ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURED, BUT WONDER WHY THE CONSUMER IS ASKED TO PAY FOR WHAT APPEARS BY ALL OF OUR RESEARCH TO BE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. SHOULDN'T THE VEHICLE'S MANUFACTURER ALSO BE AWARE OF THIS? AND IF SO, WHY WOULD THEY ASK THE PURCHASER OF THE VEHICLE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF A DEFECTIVE PART, WHETHER IT BE THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S OR ORIGINAL COMPONENTS PROVIDED BY A 3RD PARTY, SUCH AS THE TIRES? WE HAVE NOT YET FINALIZED A RESOLUTION, BUT WANTED TO FILE THIS IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A RECORD OF SUCH TIRE DEFECTS IN CASE IT IS A COMMON DEFECT FOR SAID TIRE.
