TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OVER A CEMENT BLOCK ONTO A CURB. THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED DRIVING FOR TWO MILES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED BUT THE CONTACT ALSO FILED AN INCIDENT REPORT WITH THE DMV. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) AND RECALL 07E082000 (EQUIPMENT) AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. SHE HAD TO RE-ADJUST HER SEAT TO BE ABLE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT A BOLT HAD DISLODGED FROM THE ENGINE MOUNT AND HAD PUNCTURED TWO OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT WHERE THE BRAKE LINES WERE BEING REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 53,035.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE OIL LIGHT HAD APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING THE OIL. THE DEALER ADDED OIL TO THE ENGINE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE KEY WOULD REMAIN STUCK AND HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. A LOCKSMITH WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,800.
AT ABOUT 45,000 MILES MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID DEVELOPED AN INTERMITTENT UNSETTLING FEELING OF BRIEF BRAKE FAILURE AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS ON LEVEL DRY PAVEMENT WITH LIGHT APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES AND WITHOUT ENGAGING THE ABS. IN THE 5/18/10 ISSUE OF THE CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, CLICK & CLACK THEORIZED THAT IT MAY HAVE "SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHEN THE HYBRID SWITCHES FROM REGENERATIVE BRAKING TO TRADITIONAL FRICTION BRAKING." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS DETERIORATING AND WOULD BECOME INDENTED WITH MINIMAL FORCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
THE DRIVER-SIDE SUN VISOR MOUNTING MECHANISM FAILED CAUSING THE VISOR TO DANGLE AND SWING FREELY, OBSTRUCTING DRIVER'S VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED IN MAY 2010 AND WAS REPLACED, THE REPLACEMENT ALSO FAILED (AS THE FIRST VISOR) IN JULY 2014. THE DEFECT IN THE VISOR DESIGN FLAW WAS NEVER CORRECTED CAUSING IT FAIL REPEATEDLY. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA ALSO REFUSED TO REPLACE THE VISOR THE SECOND TIME STATING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CAMRY SUN VISORS. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND HAD AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH A DEER RAN INTO THE SIDE OF MY CAR ON I -10 EAST BOUND IN FLA. THE DEER HIT THE DRIVERS DOOR AND LEFT FRONT FENDER AND THE WINDSHIELD. THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 70 MPH THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR-BAG DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE ACCIDENT UET THE DOOR WAS DAMAGED AND THE WINDOW WAS SHATTERED.. I FILED AN ACCIDENT REPORT WITH THE FLA. HIGHWAY PATROL CASE NO. [XXX] . THE CAR IS IN THE REPAIR SHOP . PLEASE ADVISE. [XXX] PHONE[XXX] . ON LISTED DATE AT APPROXIMATELY 0940, MY MOTHER IN LAW WAS OPERATING MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN LA PLATA, MD. AS SHE PULLED LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND PLACED IN ON THE BRAKE AND WENT TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. AT THAT TIME, THE VEHICLE LURCHED AGGRESSIVELY FORWARD, JUMPING SEVERAL FEET INTO THE GRASS AT THAT LOCATION. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SINCE HER FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, PLACE IN INTO REVERSE AND PARK IT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. SHE REPORTED IT TO ME IMMEDIATELY. SHE HAD MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AND KNEW THAT I HAD AN UNWANTED ACCELERATION INCIDENT IN JAN. 2008. THAT INCIDENT (ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK TO FLOOR- REPORTED TO NHTSA (REF ODI #10214714), WAS INVESTIGATED BY SCOTT YON OF NHTSA WHO ALSO PERSONALLY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2010. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STOPPED WORKING AND WOULD TURN OFF. MY CAR IS UNDRIVABLE, THE DEALERSHIP STATES IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT IS FAILING AND IS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE APPROXIMATE COST OF REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY IS 1,000. I CALLED TOYOTA CORP. TO ASK FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE IN PAYMENT DUE TO THE FACT MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. I AM OUTSIDE THE 60,000 WARRANTY TOYOTA REFUSED TO ASSIST IN THE PAYMENT FOR THE REPAIR OF MY 3 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A MOTOR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS INSPECTING THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS LOWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE OIL SUB-ASSEMBLY CONTAINER. THE DEALER REPLACED AND SEALED THE OIL SUB-ASSEMBLY CONTAINER YET THE FAILURE DID NOT PERSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,992 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,900.
THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMP TURNS OFF AFTER APPROX. TWO MINUTES. I CAN TURN THE LIGHTS OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WILL COME BACK ON. THEN APPROX. 2 MINUTES LATER IT WILL TURN OFF AGAIN. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB TWICE ALREADY. TOYOTA STATED THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK AT IT TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. *TR

APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, THE CONTACT REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR FAILED TO STAY IN ITS PROPER POSITION WHILE ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,126.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR STRUTS WERE LEAKING. IN ADDITION, THE SUN VISORS WOULD NOT REMAIN UPRIGHT AND WAS IMPAIRING THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE STRUTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT FAILED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. SIMULTANEOUS HEADLIGHT FAILURE ON 2007 CAMRY HYBRID BOTH HEADLIGHTS FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD WORK WHEN TOGGLED TO BRIGHTS. SINCE IT WAS QUITE DARK, WE USED THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND BRIGHTS WHEN THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED WITH A TOYOTA DEALER. 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY CONCERN *GR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A HIGH NOISE LEVEL WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE LEVEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE INCREASED OVER TIME AND THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER WITHOUT RAISING THE SOUND CONVERSATION. THE CONSUMER ALSO EXPERIENCED STALLING WHILE DRIVING. AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS APPLIED. ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK AND THEN HESITATE. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, WHEN HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, HE WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, AND THE RE-START IT. IN NOVEMBER 2009 WHILE THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON INSPECTION, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS EVENTUALLY REPLACED, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER STATED HE CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH RESPECT TO THE ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO JERK AND HESITATE UPON APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AT THE INTERSECTION. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND ONE PASSENGER FROM THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000.
ON APRIL 27, 2010, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I USUALLY BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE VERY SLOWLY SO THAT I CAN STOP AT ANYTIME. AFTER I HAD CLEARED THE PARKING SPACE AND BEFORE I COULD EXCHANGE GEARS, THE CAR (2007 TOYOTA CAMRY) KEPT ON REVERSING. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP. IT STOPPED WHEN IT HIT A VAN WHICH WAS ADJACENT TO A POLICE CAR. LUCKILY THE POLICE OFFICER WITNESSED THE ENTIRE ACCIDENT. WHEN THE POLICE OFFICER APPROACHED MY CAR HE STATED THAT "I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO HIT ME." I REPLIED BY SAYING "MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP; I COULD STOP THE CAR." I INFORMED THE POLICE OFFICER THAT WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE POLICE REPORT INDICATES THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION. THIS STATEMENT IS ALSO WANT THE MECHANIC SAID WHEN HE PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO WORK ON THE CAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH, WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PRESSED THE POWER BUTTON. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE BRAKES AND GAS PEDAL WORKED APPROPRIATELY. *TR
REAR DISC ROTOR AND PADS FAILED AT 49,500 MILES, WHEN THE FRONT BRAKES STILL HAVE ABOUT 60% REMAINING. IT IS UNEXPECTED AT THIS MILEAGE, TO NEED REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF BRAKES ON THE REAR. IT MOST LIKELY WOULD NOT BE FOUND/REPAIRED CAUSING INSUFFICIENT BRAKING AND IMPROPER HANDLING IN AN EMERGENCY STOPPING SITUATION. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT WE REQUESTED OUR BRAKES BE CHECKED BY OUR LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. CAR HAD BEEN AT DEALERSHIP 04/05/2010 WITHOUT MENTION OF BRAKES NEEDING ATTENTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH AND SMELLED BURNING OIL. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING OIL AT AN UNUSUALLY RAPID PACE AND WAS CHANGED EVERY 5,000 MILES. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY, TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT STRUTS WERE BADLY CRACKED, THE CAR HAS 44000 MILES. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT THAT THEY WERE CRACKED, MUST BE HITTING POTHOLES OR DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS TOO FAST. WAS TOLD IF I DIDN'T HAVE THEM REPLACED IT WOULD RUIN MY TIRES & BREAKS. HAD THEM REPLACED BUT DID SOME CHECKING ON-LINE AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE-FOR SOME IT WAS REPLACING THE STRUTS AT 30000 MILES. THIS DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT TO ME. NOW THE DEALER, AFTER I'VE PRESENTED THIS INFORMATION HAS REIMBURSED ME FOR THE PARTS AND THEN I WAS EVEN OFFERED A GREAT DEAL ON A BRAND NEW CAR. THIS SEEMS VERY STRANGE. DOES TOYOTA KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT STRUTS AND NOT OWING UP TO IT? STRUTS SHOULDN'T GO AT 30,000 OR 44,000 MILES. *TR
ON APRIL 17, 2010 I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 CAMRY HYBRID. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY MY BRAKES, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN I PUSHED THE PEDAL MORE, THE CAR LOCKED DOWN. I LOOKED AT THE INFORMATION CENTER ON THE DASH AND IT HAD A WARNING "CHECK VSC SYSTEM." I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN SPARTANBURG, SC. THE GAVE ME A RENTAL AND TOLD ME THEY HAD TO DO FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS. AFTER 12 DAYS, MY CAR IS READY BUT THEY CAN GIVE ME NO REASON WHY THE SYSTEM FAILED. THEY REPLACED A SENSOR, BUT TOLD ME THIS ISSUE NEVER HAPPENS. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE NOT HELPING ME WITH THIS MATTER AT ALL. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. I COULD HAVE CRASHED. MY DAUGHTER USED THE CAR ABOUT A MONTH AGO ON A TRIP AND SHE WOULD HAVE CRASHED IF THIS HAD HAPPENED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE ENGAGED WHEN THE CONTACT HEARD A BEEPING NOISE AND SAW THE VEHICLE ROLLING BACKWARDS OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE AND STOP IT BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. BEFORE THE CONTACT CHANGED HIS OIL, HE NOTICED THAT THE DIP STICK INDICATED A LOW OIL LEVEL EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY DRIVEN 2,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000.

I FELT DISRESPECTED AND INSULTED BECAUSE I HAVE BROUGHT SEVERAL CARS FROM TOYOTA AND NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY MAJOR ISSUES.AS A SINGLE MOTHER AND PERSON THAT IS STILL PAYING A CAR NOTE, I DID NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. I THEN EXPLORED OTHER ALTERNATIVES , SO THAT I CAN SHOP FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE PRICE AT OTHER TRANSMISSIONS SHOP. THE FIRST SHOP I WENT YOU WAS A-1 TRANSMISSION(SUITLAND, MD)AND THEY INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN TOYOTAS CAMRY REGARDING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I THEN TOOK IT TO COTTMAN'S TRANSMISSION(WALDORF, MD) AND MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THIS IS COMMON ISSUE IN TOYOTA. REPORTEDLY, HE STATED THAT THERE ARE DEFECTS WITH SOME OF THE BOLTS AND THINGS THEY USE. I DECIDED TO GO WITH COTTMANS BECAUSE OF THEIR REPUTATION AND PRICE. ALSO, BECAUSE THEY OFFERED THE BEST WARRANTY( 3YEAR). TOYOTA JACK TAYLOR, ALEXANDIRA,VA PHONED ME A COUPLE DAYS AFTER , STATING THAT THEY COULD GIVE ME 50% OFF THEPRICE, HOWEVER, IT WAS BEING WORK ON IN THE SHOP, SO I ASK IF THEY COULD PAY HALF THE PRICE THAT COTTMAN'S WAS GIVING ME AND THEY SAID "NO". I FEEL LIKE I AM BEING PENALIZED FOR TOYOTA'S DEFICIENCIES. AFTER GETTING MY CAR FIXED, IT DOES NOT DRIVE THE SAME AND LITERALLY I FEEL LIKE I AM PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T ADEQUATELY SUPPLY MY NEED(LEMON) I USE TO WORK FOR NHTSA HOTLINE AND I WANTED TO REPORT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THIS HAS CAUSED UNDUE HARDSHIP AND BURDEN ON MY FAMILY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WINDOW CABLE HAD FRACTURED, CAUSING THE WINDOW TO FALL. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE WINDOW AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MANUFACTURER. ON 4/3/10, UNINTENDED ACCELERATOR "FIX" PER TOYOTA LETTER WAS PERFORMED ON OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE (VANN YORK TOYOTA IN HIGH POINT, NC). ON 4/12/10, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT 35MPH ON A CITY STREET, MAINTAINING CONSTANT ACCELERATION; THEN, SHE REMOVED THE FOOT OF THE ACCELERATOR AS SHE HEADED TOWARD AN INTERSECTION, WHEN SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE SPEED DRASTICALLY INCREASED (I.E. REVVED UP LIKE WHEN THE DRIVER STEPS ON THE ACCELERATOR TO ACHIEVE A FAST VELOCITY RATE OF CHANGE); HOWEVER, THE CAR VELOCITY DECREASED AND SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES TO GET TO THE INTERSECTION AND MAKE A RIGHT TURN. IT IS IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT THAT THE SUDDEN ENGINE SPEED INCREASE LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS; AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE SPEED WENT BACK TO THE NORMAL (PREVIOUS) LEVEL. AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT THE INTERSECTION, THERE WAS NO RE-OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE, AND MY WIFE AND 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER MADE IT HOME SAFE. THE SUDDEN ENGINE SPEED INCREASES HAVE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES IN OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SINCE WE BOUGHT IT LATE 2006. WE HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE, AS WELL AS WHAT FEELS LIKE INFREQUENT TIRE SLIPPAGES TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS (IN PHOENIX AND GREENSBORO), BUT THEY HAVE NEVER FOUND ANY ISSUES WHILE INSPECTING THE CAR. WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT EVEN AFTER TOYOTA HAS RECOMMENDED THE ACCELERATOR "FIX" (THEY CHANGED THE SHAPE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND MADE AN UPDATE TO THE ENGINE THROTTLE COMPUTER) AND THE FIX HAS BEEN APPLIED TO OUR CAR, IT CONTINUES TO BEHAVE IN THE MANNER DESCRIBED ABOVE. THEY SAID IT WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 74 DAYS BEFORE THEY EVEN LOOK AT IT DUE TO HAVING SO MANY CLAIMS AT THIS TIME. AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED A SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING COMING FROM MY CAR. AS I ACCELERATED THE SMELL INCREASED. I HAD MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND WE WERE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED MY OIL, BRAKES FLUID AND TIRES TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL, WHICH IT WAS. AS I DROVE AWAY I BEGAN TO SMELL THE SMOKE AGAIN. I CONTINUED DRIVING DOWN THE STREET MY CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE AND SPARKS CAME FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IN A PANIC, I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, TOOK MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND RAN ACROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION. I LATER CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND TOYOTA. THE DEALER ACTUALLY MADE JOKES ABOUT US BEING "IN A FIRE". ONCE THEY FOUND OUT MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT. I TOLD THEM I WANTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO COME OUT AND SEE THE DAMAGE BEFORE THEY DID ANY REPAIRS. THEY IGNORED MY REQUEST AND REPLACED THE PARTS WITHIN 12 HOURS. MY CAR SMELLED OF SMOKE AND FIRE FOR MONTHS, THEY REFUSED TO DETAIL OR REPLACE ANY OF THE INTERIOR AND EVERY TIME THE ADJUSTOR CAME TO SEE THE CAR. THEY HAD ALL OF THE WINDOWS COMPLETELY DOWN. I REPORTED MY COMPLAINTS AND INCIDENT TO THE MAIN TOYOTA OFFICE VIA EMAIL. I EVEN SENT PICTURES OF THE BURNED PARTS WHICH I CONFISCATED FROM THE DEALER. I RECENTLY READ OF YOUR AGENCY HAVING ONLY REPORTED SIX OF THESE CASES IN THE ATLANTA JOURNAL. I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE MORE. I PURCHASED 4 BRAND NEW TIRE'S, CONTINENTAL CONTIPROCONTACT, P215/60 R 94 T, AT MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRE IN JANUARY OF 2010. AFTER THREE MONTHS, AND APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES, ONE TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO A SIDEWALL EXPLOSION. THIS TIRE WAS THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THIS TIRE WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT A NOMINAL COST, SINCE I HAD PURCHASED INSURANCE ON THE TIRES. EXACTLY ONE MONTH LATER, THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE BLEW OUT FROM THE SAME CAUSE, AND THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (THE FIRST TIRE FAILURE WAS ALSO A HIGHWAY FAILURE). THIS FAILURE WAS ALSO INSIDE THE SIDE WALL, AND NOT DUE TO DEBRIS OR POTHOLE. THIS MAKES TWO OF FOUR NEW TIRES EXPERIENCING DANGEROUS HIGHWAY FAILURE WITHIN THE FIRST 4,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT A PART THAT HOLDS A HEAT SHIELD IN PLACE UNDER THE GAS TANK HAD RUSTED AWAY AND THE HEAT SHIELD WAS MAKING THE NOISE. DID I WANT IT FIXED? I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND HAVE OWNED IT SINCE 2001. FROM ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE GAS PEDAL SOMETIMES GETS STUCK. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I AM STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. ARRIVED AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP MY 2007 CAMRY HYBRID AFTER SERVICING AND WORK ON FLOOR MAT AND "ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSEMBLY" RECALLS. TO THIS POINT I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WHATSOEVER, EVER. DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS UNABLE TO BEGIN WORK ON THE STEERING ASSEMBLY RECALL BECAUSE THE PART HAD NOT ARRIVED FROM TOYOTA YET, BUT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE PART ARRIVED. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE STEERING WHEEL MOVED 100 DEGREES RIGHT, THEN LEFT, ON ITS OWN. THEN I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL MORE THAN 1-2 INCHES IN EITHER DIRECTION. I REPEATEDLY PROTESTED TO THE SERVICE REPS ON DUTY THAT THERE WAS A STEERING PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. EACH SERVICE REP DENIED ANY PROBLEM, AND WAS UNWILLING EVEN TO WALK 60 FEET TO CHECK THE CAR. FIRST SERVICE REP TOLD ME THE CAR WAS "CORRECTING" AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO IN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. SECOND SERVICE REP TOLD ME THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM, THAT THE CAR WAS PERFECTLY SAFE TO DRIVE, AND THAT I "MUST NOT BE USED TO DRIVING WITH FULLY INFLATED TIRES." THEY URGED ME TO DRIVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT AND INTO THE SIERRAS (WHERE THEY KNEW I WAS HEADING THAT DAY), BUT I REFUSED. ULTIMATELY I ESCALATED MY COMPLAINT TO THE DEALERSHIP'S CUSTOMER RELATIONS MGR. WHO CONSULTED WITH A MECHANIC. AND AGREED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL A NEW "RACK"/ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSEMBLY ARRIVED FROM TOYOTA AND WAS INSTALLED. THEY INFORMED ME THE PART REPLACED WAS THE SAME PART WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF THE "STEERING RECALL." THE CAR NOW DRIVES MUCH AS BEFORE, WITH THE STEERING A BIT STIFFER. ALTHOUGH TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THE PART, I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE INITIAL REACTION OF SERVICE PERSONNEL, THEIR INSISTENCE THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AND THAT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
