I HAVE A 2007 JAPANESE-MADE CAMRY. I BOUGHT AT A PREMIUM (WELL ABOVE INVOICE AND ABOVE MSRP BECAUSE SERVCO HAWAII DOES NOT GIVE DISCOUNTS) THINKING I WAS PAYING FOR A RELIABLE AND WELL-MADE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD OTHER TOYOTAS BUT NONE WITH AS MANY PROBLEMS AS THIS VEHICLE. AND, WITH ALL THE NEWS OF ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS, I WOULD LIKE MY PROBLEMS CHECKED AND NOT BE CHARGED FOR IT. I DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF HAVING TO PAY $103 (1HR LABOR) X 3 DIFFERENT ACCELERATOR ISSUES + ANOTHER $103 TO SEE WHY THERE IS THE SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM THE A/C VENT. 1. WHEN STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR, I WILL GET NO RESPONSE... I CONTINUE TO DEPRESS THE GAS, STILL NO RESPONSE. THEN FINALLY, THE CAR WILL THRUST FORWARD VIOLENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN MENTIONED TO TOYOTA HAWAII DEALER SEVERAL TIMES SAYING IT WAS NORMAL FOR DRIVE BY WIRE VEHICLE AND THAT IT WILL TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO. 2. WHEN ACCELERATING SLOWLY, THE CAR WILL REV HIGH WITHOUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION UPSHIFTING.. I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE GAS MORE AND THE CAR WILL REV EVEN HIGHER BEFORE UPSHIFTING. 3. ON 2 DIFFERENT TIMES, THE CAR HAS REVVED AND JUMPED FORWARD WHILE NOT IN GEAR. THE FIRST TIME WAS AT AN INTERSECTION. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE P-BRAKE ON AND IT FELT AS IF SOMEONE HIT MY CAR FROM THE REAR. THE CAR JUMPED INTO THE BUSY CROSSWALK ABOUT 2 FEET UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SHIFTED IT BACK INTO DRIVE. ANOTHER TIME WAS AT THE DRIVE-THRU WINDOW IN PARK. THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE BUT JERKED VIOLENTLY. BOTH WERE ON FLAT SURFACES. 4. WHEN UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION, THE CAR SOMETIMES GIVE OFF THE SMELL OF GASOLINE. IT IS NOT EXHAUST FUMES BUT SMELLS OF RAW GASOLINE. A/C IN RECIRCULATE MODE. I ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING NUMEROUS OTHER QUALITY PROBLEMS WITH EXCESSIVE RATTLING OF TRIM AND DOOR AJAR ALARM GOING OFF FOR NO REASON. *TR
I OWN A TOYOTA 2007 CAMRY. I ALMOST RAN INTO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN STOPPING FOR A LIGHT. COMING UP TO LIGHT, WHILE BRAKING I HIT A BUMP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TOWARDS THE FLOOR. I RELEASE THE BRAKE AND PRESSED IT AGAIN AND IT WORKED. ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN ICY SLOPE. I WAS BRAKING AND THERE WAS A HORRIBLE GRINDING OR SNAPPING TYPE NOISE. AS I WAS VERY SCARED I WOULD HAVE AN ACCIDENT WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING I DID NOT NOTICE IF I LOST BRAKE PRESSURE. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND EXPLAINED THE ABOVE AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WITH THE BRAKES THAT ARE INSTALLED ON THE CAMRY. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. *TR
TOMORROW WILL BE THE 3RD TIME I HAVE TAKEN MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN FOR VSC PROBLEMS. LUCKILY I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY 2-12-2010 AND WITHIN ONE HOUR THE VSC , CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALER HAS BEEN RESPONSIVE BUT GIVEN ALL OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL I THOUGHT I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). SINCE REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY EXHIBIT SUDDEN ACCELERATION FAILURES AND WOULD ALSO SURGE IN REVERSE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO REFERRED HER BACK TO THE DEALER WHICH MADE THE RECALL REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,452 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,135.
THIS PROBLEM MAY BE RELATED TO THE TOYOTA GAS PEDAL RECALL. I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. WHEN I AM ON THE FREEWAY AND MOVING IN A SLOW LANE, AND CHANGE LANE AND PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM OTHER CARS COMING BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING FAST ENOUGH. I NEVER HAD SUCH PROBLEM WITH OTHER CARS. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL OCCASION (3 OR 4 TIMES), AND THE VERY LAST TIME, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS THE SENSOR AND SOFTWARE ON THE SENSOR WORKS THIS WAY, AND THIS PROBLEM IS BY DESIGN. I TRIED CONTACTING TOYOTA, AND THEY SORT OF SHRUGS ME AWAY AND DID NOT RESPOND. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL THERE AFTER 4 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR AND I CAN REPRODUCE IT VERY EASILY. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY AND IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. I HOPE YOU WOULD LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND. THANK YOU. *TR
FEBRUARY 5, 2010 RE: LEAKY STRUTS ON TOYOTA CAMRY I HAVE PURCHASED MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM DCH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN SIMI VALLEY. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY 2 CERTIFIED MECHANICS OUTSIDE OF THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE, BRAKES AND TIRE REPLACEMENTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO DCH TOYOTA FOR AN INSPECTION WHEN THE CAR HAD ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL SEEPAGE AND THEY DID NOT MAKE A NOTE IN THE COMPUTER THAT THEY HAD INSPECTED IT. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO THEM AGAIN YESTERDAY WHEN THE CAR HAD 60,441 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP'S MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING EXCESSIVELY AND THAT COULD CAUSE THE TIRES TO WEAR OUT MUCH MORE QUICKLY. BY THE WAY, I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES AND THE REAR BRAKES DURING THE 3 YEARS THAT I'VE HAD THE CAR. I'M CERTAIN THAT IT'S HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THE STRUTS TO LEAK AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THE TWO CERTIFIED MECHANICS OUTSIDE OF DEALERSHIP HAVE HAD THE SAME OPINION. I HAVE PRINT OUTS OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER CAMRY OWNERS WHO HAVE REPORTED THEIR PROBLEMS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES ON THE INTERNET. DCH TOYOTA HAS TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2,300.00 TO GET THE STRUTS REPLACED ADDITIONALLY, ALL 4 RIMS ON MY CAR HAVE RUSTED COMPLETELY ALL AROUND THE RIMS. THEY HAVE ASKED ME TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON FEBRUARY 19TH FOR THEM TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BY THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER. AFTER THE INSPECTION, THEY WILL LET ME KNOW IF THEY WILL REPLACE THE RIMS UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY OR NOT. I NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS MATTER BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT LEAKY STRUTS IS A DEFECT HAS NOT GOTTEN ATTENTION FROM TOYOTA MANUFACTURERS EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS. THE PROBLEM WILL CAUSE MY TIRES AND BRAKES TO WEAR OUT MUCH MUCH MORE QUICKLY. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL SET @ 70 MPH SPEED LIMIT ON I-85 WHEN A TRACTOR-TRAILER TRUCK RAPIDLY CLOSED THE INTERVAL BEHIND AS I STARTED UP AN INCLINE. WITHOUT WARNING MY SPEED QUICKLY DROPPED AND THE TRUCK MOVED DANGEROUSLY CLOSE. STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE SPEED AND WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO THE CRUISE CONTROL FURTHER INCREASED MY SPEED. DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE SPEED INCREASE WAS BECAUSE I WAS PAYING ATTENTION TO THE INTERVAL BETWEEN THE TRUCK AND MY CAR AND NOT WHAT REGISTERED ON MY SPEEDOMETER. AFTER GOING OVER THE HILL'S CREST THERE WAS STATE PATROL CAR IN THE MEDIAN WHO CLOCKED MY SPEED AT 80MPH. HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED SPEED DROPS AND SURGES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND WAS MUCH MORE ATTENTIVE TO THE ACTIONS OF THE CRUISE CONTROL FOR THE REMAINING PART OF THE TRIP. THERE WERE MULTIPLE INSTANCES WHERE THE SPEED WOULD DROP FROM SIX TO SEVEN MILES PER HOUR AS THE CAR STARTED UP AN INCLINE AND THEN WOULD RAPIDLY ACCELERATE, OVERSHOOTING THE SETTING BY THREE TO FOUR MILES PER HOUR (ONCE OVER FIVE) BEFORE ULTIMATELY DROPPING BACK TO THE SET SPEED. THIS IS BOTH A SAFETY CONCERN AS WELL AS UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN THERE IS A SERIES OF ROLLING HILLS. THE TOYOTA DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, FINDING NO DTC FAULT CODES AND NO ABNORMAL FINDINGS AFTER FORCE TESTING THE CRUISE SYSTEM. I SUSPECT THE ISSUE MAY RELATE TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS FOR THE HYBRID SYSTEM. AS THE CAR WENT DOWN HILL, THE GASOLINE ENGINE APPEARED TO BE IN "IDLE/COASTING" STATE AND THE GPS/ENERGY DISPLAY SHOWED NO ENERGY FLOW TO EITHER THE DRIVE WHEELS OR THE BATTERY FROM THE ENGINE. THE ELECTRIC MOTOR, HOWEVER, WAS IN CHARGING MODE. *TR
I HAVE HAD ISSUES GETTING MY TOYOTA CAMRY FIXED THAT WAS RECALLED. THE TOYOTA WEBSITE LISTED IT AS ONE OF THE VEHICLES IN THE MASSIVE RECALL HOWEVER, THE LOCAL DEALER STATED IT WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. I SPENT 2 HOURS ON HOLD BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TALK WITH A PERSON AT THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CENTER WHO CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS ON THE LIST BUT CAME UP WITH EXCUSES ABOUT GETTING IT FIXED. I THEN CALLED BACK THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS EXTREMELY ASSERTIVE ABOUT GETTING IT FIXED - IT WILL NOT BE FIXED UNTIL HOPEFULLY SOMETIME NEXT WEEK THOUGH THE LOCAL DEALER INDICTED HE WAS STILL UNSURE IF IT WAS BEING RECALLED. APPARENTLY THERE IS A COMMUNICATION ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, LAST WEEK I HAD ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE GOING FORWARD A BIT ON ITS OWN. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY...THE TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY STATED HE WOULD "HOLD TOYOTA'S FEET TO THE FIRE"....SO, LET'S MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE TO ISSUES GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED SINCE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY BEING INCONVENIENCED HAVING TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK TO GET CARS REPAIRED BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE TOYOTA COMPANY CARED MORE ABOUT MASS PRODUCING A CHEAPER VEHICLE AND SAVING MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF HUMAN LIFE. *TR
AT THE SPEED OF LESS THAN APROX 15-20 MILES ON A TURN, CAR SPUN OFF AND LOST CONTROL. CAUSED WHEELS TO CRASH INTO CURB, AND SEVERELY DAMAGED. NOTICED OIL ON THE TIRE SURFACE. MOVED CAR OUT OF TOAD WAY. CAR SPILLED LOT OF OIL. THE TOYOTA DEALER ASSESSED, AND TOLD US THAT THE OIL HOSE (VVT-I) HAS RUPTURED, CAUSING OIL LEAK. TOYOTA LATER INFORMED THAT THERE IS A SO CALLED "LIMITED CAMPAIGN" TO REPLACE THESE HOSES. THEY ARE DENYING THAT THE OIL LEAK WAS THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENT. THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANY THOROUGH INVESTIGATION. THE WRITTEN RESPONSE FROM DOES NOT EVEN SATISFACTORILY EXPLAIN THEIR REASONING FOR DENYING CLAIM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR STRUTS WERE LEAKING OIL PAST THE LOWER SPRING SEAT. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE LEAK WAS NORMAL.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY PERFORMED A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND PERFORMED REPAIRS TO CORRECT THE LEAKAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IF GOING OVER A BUMPY ROAD OR RAISED CRACKS IN THE STREET (ESSENTIALLY GOING FROM ANY "SMOOTH" TO A SUDDEN "NON-SMOOTH" SURFACE) THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES LOCKED, THEN SPRINGS BACK AND FORTH AND THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY YEARS AGO AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED NEW PADS. THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THEY'VE NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM EXISTS. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE WAS SEEN AT OUR TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND OUR LOCAL MECHANIC ABOUT 4 TIMES DURING LATE 2008 AND 2009 FOR FREQUENT HIGH REVVING OF THE ENGINE AND RPMS. NO "FIX" EVER OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I AM VERY CONCERNED NOW WITH THE CURRENT RECALL, AND I'M CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TODAY. *TR
I LEASE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN DRIVING UP A HILL. BECAUSE I WAS ON A HILL I GAVE THE CAR A LOT OF GAS. HOWEVER, THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO GO FURTHER THAN I INTENDED AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND HIT THE BREAKS, WHICH STOPPED THE CAR WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES TO GET IT TO DISENGAGE. TOYOTA APPLIED THE GAS PEDAL RECALL 'FIX' A FEW DAYS LATER. HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY HAVE NOT CORRECTLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE GAS PEDAL WENT DOWN FURTHER THAN I PRESSED IT, MEANING THERE MAY BE SOME ELECTRONIC OR OTHER PROBLEM RATHER THAN 'STICKING.' I KNOW YOU HAVE MANY SUCH COMPLAINTS, BUT I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO DETERMINE IF TOYOTA'S REMEDY IS ADEQUATE. THANK YOU. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY CAR ACCELERATED GOING 10 MILES A HOUR IN A PARKING LOT WITH OUT WARNING. I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE RACE. I PUT THE BREAK ON AS HARD AS I COULD PRESS DOWN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. PEOPLE WERE WALKING ON MY RIGHT, I SAW THE CEMENT PILLAR AND TURN THE WHEEL TO HIT THAT INSTEAD OF THE PEOPLE. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND IN 3 YEARS RECEIVED LETTERS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PEDAL. ALL 3 TIMES I TOOK THE LETTER INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT MY PEDAL. NOW AFTER THE ACCIDENT THE SERVICE MANAGER TRIED TO BLAME ME. I REQUESTED TO MEET WITH A TOYOTA REP. THE REP ALSO TRIED TO BLAME ME. WHEN I PUSHED THE ISSUE IT CAME OUT THAT MY CAMRY WAS ONE WITH THE PEDAL THAT COULD GET STUCK ON A FLOUR MAT. THE TOYOTA REP, ROB BROWN SAID WHEN THE CAR IS FIXED THEN WE WILL SEND IT OVER TO THE OTHER DEPARTMENT TO MODIFY YOUR PEDAL. I TOLD THE REP ROB BROWN AND THE COLLISION MANAGER I WANT DOCUMENTATION ON THE MODIFICATION WORK DONE ON THE PEDAL. THERE WAS SO MUCH DAMAGE DONE TO MY CAR THAT THOSE REPAIRS ARE STILL NOT DONE 3 WEEKS LATER. I VERY WELL COULD HAVE KILLED PEOPLE THAT DAY. THE DEALERSHIP IS HOSELTON AUTOMALL [XXX]. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK IT WOULD ACCELERATE. MY CAR HAD TWO RECALLS. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY CAR DURING MOST OF THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. THEY CALLED ME AND INDICATED THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. DROVE CAR TO WORK AND CAR ACCELERATED AGAIN. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY PUT IN A NEW DRIVE SHAFT. AT THAT POINT I WAS TOO SCARED TO GET BACK IN CAR. I HAD NO CONFIDENCE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND I DON'T REALLY THINK THEY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AS IT WAS STILL UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I COULD NOT GET BACK IN THAT CAR NOR COULD I AFFORD TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. I QUALIFIED FOR THEIR 0% FINANCING ON A 2010 NEW PRODUCTION WITH NO RECALL AND FREE TWO YEAR MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT. I FELT TRAPPED WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO BUY THE CAR AS I HAD PUT $11,000 ON THE 2007 WHICH WAS A LOSS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING OVER 30 YEARS AND NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT OR TICKET UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING AND ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND OFFERED A 10% DISCOUNT. THE CONTACT DECLINED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED SEVERAL TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SE V6. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT WHERE I CAN BE DRIVING ALONG AND WHEN I SLOW DOWN, THE ENGINE WILL REV AND THE TACHOMETER WILL GO UP TO AROUND 4,000 RPM AND THEN WHAT SEEMS LIKE 30 SECONDS OR MORE, THE GEARS WILL FINALLY CATCH AND THE CAR WILL GO AND ALL THIS RESULTS IN A JERK LIKE REACTION GIVING ME A WHIPLASH FEELING. IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED AND THE LATEST EXPERIENCE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING AROUND 55 MPH, ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH WAS VERY FULL WITH TRAFFIC. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AT 7:30 AM THE "CHECK VSC" WARNING LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON. I PLANNED TO TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND THEN DROP THE CAR OFF TO BE CHECKED AT MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. AFTER ABOUT 2-3 MILES, THE WARNING LIGHT TURNED OFF. AFTER ABOUT 3-4 MILES FURTHER, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND GOT NO BRAKING ACTION. THE BRAKES FELT AS THOUGH THEY HAD COMPLETELY LOST THEIR POWER ASSIST AND THEY DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED UNTIL I SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. AS OF THIS MORNING, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THE "CHECK VSC" LIGHT IS STILL OFF. NO INDICATION WAS LEFT ON THE CARS COMPUTER THAT ANY MAINTENANCE LIGHT HAD COME ON OR THAT THERE WERE ANY ISSUES. *TR

I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID, AFTER OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 8-10 MONTHS THE CARS BRAKES WOULD MOMENTARILY RELEASE WHILE BRAKING. THIS OCCURED AT LOW SPEED 20-25 MPH, SLOWING DOWN GRADUALLY AND CROSSING UNEVEN PAVEMENT. IT OCCURED ONCE AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE INCIDENT AND GAVE IT NO THOUGHT, HOWEVER, IT WAS UNUSUAL. I NOW HAVE OVER 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THIS HAS OCCURED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS. IT IS DURING GRADUAL STOPS WITH LOW BRAKING PRESSURE AND GOING OVER A SMALL BUMP. I TRAVEL THE SAME ROUTE TO WORK AND MY 2005 DODGE RAM AND 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER HAVE NOT HAD ANY SIMILIAR PROBLEMS OR OCCURENCES IN THIS AREA. THE CONDITION OCCURS WHEN GOING OVER A SMALL UNDULATION IN THE PAVEMENT AND LIGHTLY APPLY THE BRAKES TO BEGIN SLOWING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES RELEASE FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND EVEN WITH CONSITENT BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. I TOOK MY CAR TO OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY, 3-25-2010 AND I ADVISED THEM OF THIS CONDITION, THEY ADVISED IT WAS A TIRE LEAVING CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT AND IT WAS THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. I ADVISED THEM THE SPEED AND PAVEMENT CONDITION DID NOT WARRANT THAT AND SOMETHING ELSE WAS OCCURING, THE ANTLOCK BRAKE INDICATOR DOES NOT COME ON DURING THIS OCCURENCE. THE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP SHOWS UNDER COMMENTS 16TOZ BRAKES, THAN DELETED OPERATIONS. I NOTICED A SECOND SHEET AND I REQUESTED A COPY, IT HAS THE NOTES FROM THE SERVICE TECH WHO CHECKED PAD THICKNESS, BRAKE ROTORS AND FLUID, HOWEVER NOTHING ABOUT CHECKING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DOCUMENT MY COMPLAINT, NOR DID THEY EVALUATE THE POTENTIAL AREA OF PROBLEM, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ATTEMPT BY THE DEALERSHIP TO AVOID HAVING TO REPORT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, DUE TO THE RECENT CIRCUMSTANCES OF TOYOTA. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT PULLED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UP WITH HER FOOT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED TO OVERRIDE THE ACCELERATOR IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,140 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000.
YESTERDAY,JAN. 16, 2010, I WAS DRIVING MY CAMRY AND NOTICED THE ODOR OF OIL THROUGH MY A/C. IT WAS RAINING SO THE STREET SURFACES WERE WET, AND I NOTICED THAT I WAS SLIPPING AS I ACCELERATED FROM STOPS AND MAKING SIMPLE TURNS AT NORMAL WET-DRIVING SPEEDS, AND THREE TIMES THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AS I NEARED MY HOME, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON FOR JUST A MOMENT AND WENT OFF AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ONCE MORE A MOMENT BEFORE I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I PARKED THE VEHICLE, TURNED IT OFF, AND WENT INSIDE FOR A MOMENT TO GET A FLASHLIGHT. WHEN I CAME BACK OUTSIDE, THERE WAS AN OIL SHEEN ON THE WET DRIVEWAY SPREADING OUT FROM BENEATH MY CAMRY. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND OIL SPATTER ALL OVER THE PASSENGER-SIDE OF THE ENGINE BAY. I CHECKED THE DIPSTICK ONLY TO FIND THAT THE OIL PAN WAS DRY. I CLOSED THE HOOD AND WAITED UNTIL TODAY TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE FURTHER, AS THE RAIN HAD STOPPED. I FILLED THE MOTOR WITH OIL AND THERE WERE NO DRIPS VISIBLE, SO I JACKED UP THE CAR AND CHECKED THE OIL PAN NUT AND FILTER HOUSING AND THEY WERE TIGHT, SO I STARTED THE VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME, A RUBBER HOSE LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE BEGAN SPITTING OIL OUT OF WHAT APPEARED TO BE A PIN-HOLE IN THE HOSE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR QUICKLY, PUSHED IT BACK INTO ITS PARKING SPOT AND CLEANED UP A BIT, KNOWING THAT I'D HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED FOR SERVICE. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET FOR THIS PROBLEM FINDS A GREAT DEAL OF FORUM DISCUSSION, AND THAT THE TOYOTA AVALON USING THIS SAME ENGINE AND PART IN 2005 HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS, LEADING TO A SERVICE BULLETIN. I FEEL THAT THE INHERENT DANGER THAT THIS POOR ENGINEERING POSES SHOULD BE ADDRESSED FOR ALL CAMRY OWNERS TO PREVENT THE POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS THAT COULD OCCUR SHOULD THIS HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF NORMAL LOW-SPEED SURFACE STREETS. *TR

FIRST MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR STARTED TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS BY MAKING A POPPING SOUND WHICH DIDN'T LAST VERY LONG. EVENTUALLY THE VISOR COMPLETELY GAVE OUT BY FALLING DOWN IN MY FACE AND MY HEAD WHILE DRIVING. I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING IT IN POSITION AND FIGURING OUT HOW I CAN USE THE VISOR TO BLOCK THE SUN. I HAD TO RIG THE VISOR WITH A SMALL BUNGEE CORD. I WAS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AND EMBARRASSED BY THE CONTRAPTION TO HOLD THE VISOR IN PLACE AND THE FUNCTION OF THE VISOR. AFTER MONTHS OF FRUSTRATION AND EMBARRASSMENT I TOOK THE VISOR OUT. THEN SOON AFTER OF REMOVING THE VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE THE SAME THING STARTED TO HAPPEN ON THE PASSENGER VISOR. TALK ABOUT BEING HUMILIATED AND UPSET WITH TOYOTA. AS THIS WAS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH THE CAR FOR EX. RECENT RECALLS, BELTS REPLACED, THE COST TO HAVE MY IGNITION COILS REPLACED THEN NOT TO SOON AFTER THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. EXPENSIVE!!! I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPLACEMENT AND COST AND POSSIBILITY OF A RECALL ON THIS AFTER READING HOW MANY OTHER 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY OWNERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I HAD NO LUCK WITH TOYOTA AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLACE DUE TO COSTS. I JUST DEAL WITH THE SUN IN MY EYES WHILE DRIVING. *KB

THE CONTACT IS VERY DISAPPOINTED SINCE SHE HAS CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND HAS ONLY BEEN ABLE TO LEAVE A VOICEMAIL. NO ONE HAS RETURNED HER CALLS. THE CONTACT HAS NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURES AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53000.

THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER WERE INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. WHEN HE DROVE APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT AND WHEN HE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, HE HAD TO HOLD THE WHEEL TIGHT IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO STATED THAT WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT, IT WOULD LOCK. THE DEALER TOLD HIM NOT TO LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE DEALER TOLD HIM ONCE AGAIN THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE RECALL 10V017000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL REPAIR WAS MADE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK FOR THE FIRST TIME; HOWEVER, HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE BRAKES. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,562. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,538.
IT HAPPENED ON A WINTER DAY WITH LIGHT SNOWING. THE GROUND TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW FREEZING POINT. THE SNOW LAYER WAS THIN, BARELY SEVERAL MILLIMETERS, NO ICE UNDER IT. I MADE A RIGHT TURN AFTER A FULL STOP AT A STOP SIGN. THE ROAD WAS UPHILL, WITH A STEEP SLOPE. WHEN CLIMBING ONTO THE HILL, MY DRIVING WHEELS WERE SUDDENLY STOPPED BY THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, DID NOT REINGAGE, AND MY CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE AND THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED. A LARGE TRUCK WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME AT A VERY CLOSE DISTANCE. ITS DRIVER COULD NOT IMAGINE THAT MY CAR WOULD SUDDENLY STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLOPE WITHOUT ANY GOOD REASON. ONLY THANKS TO HIS GREAT SKILL AND REACTION THE COLLISION HAS BEEN AVOIDED. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PREVENTS USING MY CAR EVEN WITH THE LIGHTEST SNOW DUSTING ON THE GROUND. WITH ANY NORMAL CAR, THE WHEELS MAKE A TURN, CUT THROUGH THE SNOW, REACH THE PAVEMENT, AND GET GRIP. ON THE CONTRARY, MY TOYOTA IS UNCONTROLLABLE EVEN WITH THE LIGHTEST SNOW DUSTING AND GENERATES MULTIPLE PROBLEMS FOR ME IN THE NEW ENGLAND CLIMATE. I FAILED TO FIND IN THE MANUAL THE INSTRUCTION HOW TO DISABLE THE TRACTION CONTROL. A MECHANIC AT TOYOTA SERVICE STATION TOLD ME THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DISABLE THE TRACTION CONTROL IN TOYOTAS FOR SOFTWARE REASONS. I THINK THAT THE ABILITY TO DISABLE A TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MUST BE MANDATORY. OTHERWISE, IN THE SNOWING CONDITIONS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO START THE CAR MOVING AFTER A STOP, SAY, IN FRONT OF A LIGHT. *TR
