THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000. VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING MY DAUGHTER DRIVING HER 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THE CAMRY SUSTAINED MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE AND WAS SALVAGED A TOTAL LOSS BY HER INSURANCE COMPANY. HER ESTIMATED SPEED ON IMPACT WAS 35-40 MPH AND NONE OF HER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. AFTER RESEARCHING IS ISSUE I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE REGARDING TOYOTA VEHICLES LISTED ON THE CONSUMERS REPORTS WEBSITE AND SURELY HUNDREDS MORE LISTED IN OTHER AREAS. THE MAJORITY OF THE POSTS I HAVE READ ALL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE REGARDING THE LACK OF CONCERN BY TOYOTA. *TR
I LIVE IN TEMPE, ARIZONA AND OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. IN JAN 2010, I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH IN FAIR WEATHER WHEN THERE WAS AN APPARENT BRAKE MALFUNCTION. ALARM CHIMES WENT OFF AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND VSC SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY OTHERS (IT HAPPENED RATHER QUICKLY). THE BRAKES HAD ALMOST NO EFFECT WHEN PRESSED SO I DOWNSHIFTED AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, THEY APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A TOYOTA DEALER WHO CHECKED IT OUT, INCLUDING AN EXTENSIVE TEST DRIVE, BUT COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. HE STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A RAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 38000.
THIS IS IN REGARDS TO MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATOR. I FIRST LEARNED OF THIS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN MAY OF 2009. SINCE HAVING OWNERSHIP I NOTICED THAT THE CAR JUST WANTS TO TAKE OFF. EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. LAST MONTH WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I TRIED TO MISS A TIRE ICE RUT. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND FOR SOME REASON IT SPED UP. WHEN I STOPPED MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. I ENDED UP IN A SNOW BANK AND HIT SOMEONE'S FENCE. I ENDED UP DOING $800.00 IN DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT FENDER AND $50.00 TO THE FENCE. I PAID THE PEOPLE FOR THE FENCE BUT I HAVE TO SAVE TO GET MY CAR FIXED.*TR
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN GETTING DIFFICULT TO PRESS DOWN ON. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY DAY BUT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. WHEN I HAVE PUSHED DOWN ON THE PEDAL WITH MORE STRENGTH THEN NECESSARY, IT HAS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO INCREASE SPEED. TW* THANKFULLY, I HAVEN'T BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BUT AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY, ESPECIALLY AFTER HEARING OF MANY VEHICLE RECALLS!
2010 TOYOTA RECALL HAD A REAR END CRASH ON 1/6/2010. VEHICLE IN FRONT WAS TURNING LEFT AND I WAS TURNING RIGHT. BOTH WE AT A DEAD STOP UNTIL TRAFFIC CLEARED. VEHICLE EASED UP TO TURN LEFT AND I SLIGHTLY ACCELATED (WAS ON AN UPWARD INCLINE) BUT GAS PEDAL ACCELERALTED BEYOND MY PRESSURE. REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE WITH SIGNIFICATE DAMAGE.*CW
THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR BENT ON MY CAMRY LE 2007, AFTER TRYING TO LOWER IT FROM SUN, ALMOST CREATED AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT, POINT BLACK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS UNEXPECTEDLY FAILED. THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WERE THEN ENGAGED IN ORDER TO ILLUMINATE THE ROADWAY. MOMENTS LATER, THE SIMILAR FAILURE OCCURRED WITH THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE BOTH HIGH BEAM BULBS AND THE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED, AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT ALL FOUR HEADLIGHT BULBS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND POSSIBLY, THE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 40,000.
THE 2.4LITER ENGINE IN THE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT I OWN HAS BEGUN TO CONSUME AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO COVER VEHICLES THAT ARE STILL COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY BUT WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH MY VEHICLE SINCE IT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. NOW THE VEHICLE HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT AND THE ENGINE WILL FAIL PREMATURELY. I HAVE CONTACTED THE TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AS WELL AS MY LOCAL DEALER WITH NO SUCCESS. THE LOCAL DEALER KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT SAYS TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST OUT OF WARRANTY CUSTOMERS. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE ENGINE AND THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD WITH THESE MODELS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING ON A LATE MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH IN REVERSE ON A SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE HYBRID SYSTEM OVERHEATED WARNING LIGHT AND MASTER WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHILE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THERE WAS NO POWER RESPONSE. UNEXPECTEDLY, THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD WITH THE GEAR SHIFTER IN THE REVERSE POSITION. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER WAITING A PERIOD OF EIGHT TO TEN MINUTES AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE PROBLEM WAS A NATURAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,717.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE WAS HAVING THE TWO FRONT TIRES ON THE VEHICLE CHANGED, THE MECHANIC NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT STRUT ALONG WITH DUST ACCUMULATION. HE STATED THAT THE STRUT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,440. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,400.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE STOPPED AT INTERSECTION WHEN BRAKE FULLY DEPRESSED AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL NOT ENGAGED. VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD EVEN WHILE FULLY STOPPED AND BRAKE PRESSED FIRMLY. *TR
ON JANUARY 2, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON ROUTE 146. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE POOR AND I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH. MY CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND WHEN I PROCEEDED TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL IT SKIPPED AND MY CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN AT ALL. I BELIEVE THAT PARTIALLY THE ICY WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE TO BLAME BUT IN MY OPINION A 2007 VEHICLES BREAKS SHOULD NOT SKIP ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THE GAS PEDAL SHOULD ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIME NAMELY BALISE AND THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS REGARDING THE RECENT RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE CALL VOLUME ON THIS ISSUE IS PROBABLY GIGANTIC YET WHEN A CUSTOMER, ESPECIALLY ONE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR VEHICLE SHOULD BE PRIORITIZE. DUE TO THIS MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED OVER $9,000 IN DAMAGES AND I HAVE OVER $5,000 IN MEDICAL BILLS. IN THIS INCIDENT I HIT A GUARD RAIL TO AVOID HITTING OTHER CARS AND MY OPINION IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. I TRULY BELIEVE TOYOTA ARE GREAT VEHICLES AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT REPUTATION THAT IS WHY I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE. *TR
SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2007 CAMRY IN JUNE 2007, I HAVE EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHERE MY CONSOLE LIGHTS (DASHBOARD, STEREO, ETC.) DIM AND BRIGHTEN SPORADICALLY. I DRIVE AND THE LIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY BRIGHTEN DRAMATICALLY. IT WILL REPEAT DURING THE DURATION OF MY TRIP. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THAT I DRIVE AT NIGHT, FROM THE FIRST NIGHT I DROVE HOME WITH A NEW CAR. IT IS UNRELATED TO ACCELERATION/DECELERATION OR ANYTHING I DO MECHANICALLY. NONE OF THE DASHBOARD CONTROLS CHANGE WHEN THE LIGHTS BRIGHTEN AND DIM. IT IS ONLY VISIBLE AT NIGHT, ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM LIKELY OCCURS CONTINUOUSLY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS INDICATES A DEEPER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA. *TW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY AND ATTEMPTING STOP, THE BRAKE FAILED. THE VEHICLE HIT A TRUCKS REAR BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER GAVE THE VEHICLE BACK AND DID NOT INFORM THE CONTACT OF THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE VEHICLE.. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A REPORT NUMBER 1001143929. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 33,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO PICK UP SPEED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED TO ADDRESS THE FAILURE. HE RECEIVED AN INTERIM LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER PERTAINING TO THE FLOOR MATS AND WAS ADVISED TO REMOVE THEM. HE THEN CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE WHEN THE REPAIRS WERE TO BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL ON A LATER DATE AND THAT THEY WERE BEING SENT OUT IN WAVES. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AGAIN TO DETERMINE WHEN HE WOULD RECEIVE HIS RECALL LETTER AND HE WAS TOLD HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT ASKED FOR SOMETHING IN WRITING STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY REFUSED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 52,300.

THERE WAS A MOMENTARY HESITATION BEFORE ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHICH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL); HOWEVER THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE AVAILABILITY OF THE RECALL AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 37,200.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE VISOR A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES YET THE FAILURE CONTINUOUSLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

DASH BOARD IS VERY STICKY, BECOMING SHINY, COMPOSITION IS CHANGING TO VERY SOFT, EASILY DEPRESSED AND INDENTED, AND PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. SHINY DASHBOARD CAUSES GLARE TO REFLECT ON WINDSHIELD AFFECTING VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING ON SUNNY DAYS. *TR
MY DASH IS MELTING AND DISINTEGRATING. IT IS REALLY STICKY CAUSING A DANGEROUS GLARE WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WANTED ME TO PURCHASE A NEW DASH. THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE DRIVING WITH SUN SHINING CAUSING A GLARE AND MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD. *TR

FOR SOME TIME MY DASHBOARD HAS BEEN STICKY AND GLOSSY. THE REFLECTION AT NIGHT IN ADDITION TO GLARE FROM ONCOMING CARS IS BLINDING AND A SAFETY HAZARD. I'VE TRIED NUMEROUS PRODUCTS IN AN ATTEMPT TO CLEAN/REMOVE THIS TACKINESS. NOTHING WORK. ALSO THE PASSENGER VISOR "HINGE" SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN HOT AND BENT THAT I CAN'T TO REATTACH THE SOR. CURRENTLY IT KEEPS DANGLING. MY VEHICLE IS/WAS STATIONARY.
MY 2007 CAMRY HAS BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE PEDAL ISSUE AND THE MAT. I TOOK THE MAT OUT HOWEVER EVEN THOUGH MY PEDAL HAS STUCK ALREADY THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT GIVE ME A RENTAL UNTIL THEY FIX THE PROBLEM OR ANOTHER TRADE-IN. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE AND NOW THEY ARE RECALLING CAMRY'S FOR OTHER REASONS AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE ANOTHER CAR AND FEEL I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TAKING MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILD IN THE CAR BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO. CAR HAD A BURNING OIL SMELL THAT GREW STRONGER DURING ONE DAY. FINALLY HEARD A SMALL TICKING NOISE AS I CAME CLOSE TO HOME, SMELL WAS WORSE AND I CONNECTED THE TWO... HURRIED HOME 5 BLOCKS AWAY. OIL TRAIL BEHIND MY CAR TO THE HOME. CHECKED OIL, REQUIRED 4.5 QUARTS OF OIL TO BRING IT BACK TO LEVEL. RESEARCHED ON LINE TOYOTA OWNERS FORUM, MENTION OF OIL PIPE FROM CRANKCASE TO UPPER HEAD AREA LEAKING. A RUBBER HOSE THAT CONNECTED TWO METAL HOSES FAILED ON OTHER TOYOTAS, RAVS AND SOMETHING ELSE. CALLED TOYOTA REGARDING OIL LEAKS.. GAVE THEM MY VIN # AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR DIDN'T FALL INTO A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM, AND MILEAGE WAS OVER 60K... EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE THE OTHER CARS THAT ARE COVERED. CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER, BROUGHT THE CAR IN, RELATED TO THE SERVICE WRITER MY EXPERIENCE AS A SERVICE WRITER AND MECHANIC, ASKED IF HE COULD MAKE EXCEPTION OR CHECK WITH AREA REP. HE DID, REPAIR AS WERE COVERED FOR ME, BUT ONLY BECAUSE I KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND A GOOD SERVICE WRITER. CONCERNED THAT MANY OTHERS THAT DON'T HAVE MECHANICAL EXPERIENCE OR GOOD EARS WON'T CATCH THIS, ENGINE DAMAGE WILL RESULT IF NOT CAUGHT IN TIME AND TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR A WIDER RANGE OF CARS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. SHE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK TO STOP ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV WHILE IN PARK, BUT DID NOT MOVE. THERE WERE NO FLOOR MATS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. ON RECENT TRIP, CAR WENT AS FAST AS 85MPH (FROM 60) WHEN I FINALLY APPLIED BRAKE AND TURNED OFF CRUISE CONTROL. THERE WAS NO FLOOR MAT IN CAR, NO PROBLEM WITH PEDAL. ALSO HAD PROBLEM WITH CRUISE CONTROL, WOULD NOT HOLD SPEED ON DOWN-HILL DRIVE. DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO WORK ON DOWN HILL. THIS HAPPENED ON EVEN MINOR DOWN GRADES, WOULD JUST TAKE OFF! ON 1/27/10 I WENT TO DEALER AND PURCHASED WHAT THEY SAID WAS A "SAFE" NO ISSUE 2010 CAMRY. THEY SAID THIS ONE HAD THE SAFE "PEDAL". NOW I AM HEARING ISSUES THAT IT IS WITH THE COMPUTER! I AM NOT SURE WHAT LED UP TO THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER ON DECEMBER 23, 2009 AT ABOUT 0515 AM PST I WAS NOTIFIED BY A CO-WORKER THAT A LARGE OIL PUDDLE WAS BENEATH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE OIL LEAK WAS SUDDEN AND BEGAN TO DRIP OIL FROM ENGINE AREA CAUSING A BURNING SMELL TO EMIT FROM THE ENGINE. ON THAT SAME DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER REMOVED AND REPLACED VVTI OIL LINE, TIMING CHAIN COVER, AND DRIVE BELTS. I AM AN ENGINEER SO NOT COMPLAINING IN REACTION TO THE NEWS BUT I HAVE A 2007 CAMRY LE (4 CYLINDER) WHICH I BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND IN THE PAST 3 YEARS, IT HAS 'ACCELERATED' CONSIDERABLY SEVERAL TIMES WHENEVER I SWITCH OFF MY CRUISE CONTROL. I CAN COUNT ATLEAST 6 INSTANCES WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED AND BRAKING FIXED THE ACCELERATION SO LUCKILY NO ACCIDENTS BUT ONLY CAUSED MY INCREASED HEART RATE. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED AFTER I HAD BEEN SHOPPING AT THE HUNTINGTON MALL FOR CHRISTMAS. I WAS COMING UP TO A REDLIGHT BEHIND SEVERAL AUTOMOBILES WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. I VEERED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID HITTING THE AUTOMOBILE IN FRONT OF ME AND BRAKED AS HARD AS I COULD. I ALSO PUT THE AUTOMOBILE IN PARK AS SOON AS I COULD. BEFORE THIS, I HAD AN INCIDENT OF SLIGHT ACCELERATION, BUT I DON'T RECALL EXACTLY WHEN OR WHERE-JUST THAT I MENTIONED TO MY HUSBAND THAT I FELT THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE. ON JANUARY 6, 2010, I TOOK THE CAMRY TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I PURCHASED IT FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND REQUESTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO LOOK AT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ON JANUARY 22, 2010, THE CAMRY HAD TO BE TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO A BUSTED OIL TUBE (WHICH WAS LATER IDENTIFIED AS A RECALL) AND AGAIN, I ASKED THE REPAIR DEPARTMENT TO CHECK THE PEDAL. MY HUSBAND ACCOMPANIED ME TO PICK THE CAR UP LATER THAT AFTERNOON AND WHEN I ASKED IF THE PEDAL HAD BEEN CHECKED, THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT THE PEDAL HAD BEEN CHECKED AND HE HAD DRIVEN THE CAR AND COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR RELATED TO US THAT "SOMETHING ABOUT A RECALL WAS ON THE NEWS ABOUT 4:00 A.M. THAT VERY MORNING". AFTER THE PUBLIC RECALL AND TWO LETTERS ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS FINALLY CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO BRING MY AUTOMOBILE IN FOR RECALL REPAIRS. SINCE THAT TIME, I'VE TAKEN THE CAMRY IN FOR A STEERING WHEEL CONCERN, WHICH WARRANTED NO APPARENT CAUSE, AND RECENTLY EXPERIENCED ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH ACCELERATION. MY 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA POWER STEERING LOCKED UP INITIALLY 12/17/2009 WHILE EXITING A FREEWAY OFFRAMP CAUSING ME TO CONTINUE VEERING LEFT INTO THE CURB FORTUNATELY WITH NO INJURY TO MYSELF OR CAR. THE CARS BEHIND, ALSO EXITING, NEARLY SLAMMED INTO ME BUT HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP AND SWERVE AROUND. THE WHEEL WAS LOCKED FOR NEARLY 2 MINUTES THEN FINALLY RELEASED WHILE THE CAR REMAINED RUNNING WITH NO ENGINE FAILURE. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED 12/24/2009 IN THE EVENING WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT WHICH AGAIN FORTUNATELY NO ONE HIT ME. THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT UNLOCK FOR NEARLY TWO MINUTES AGAIN WITH NO ENGINE FAILURE. CURRENTLY THE CAR IS WITH TOYOTA DEALER AND HAS HAD NO PAST HISTORY OF ISSUES AND UNDERGOES REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING FURTHER DIAGNOSED AFTER I FILED A COMPLAINT 12/28/2009 SINCE THE SERVICE TEAM REPRESENTATIVE WAS ADVISING ME THE CAR WILL BE RELEASED AND TO BRING IT IN IF ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURS. I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE AS THE THIRD TIME MAY BE FATAL TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A DEALERSHIP TO RELEASE A CAR WHICH COULD CAUSE FATALITY. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER IN KINGSPORT TN FOR MY RECALL. WHEN I GOT THERE I TOLD THEM HOW MY VEHICLE ACTED. WHEN I STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN I START TO PULL OUT FROM THE LIGHT I AM PUSHING THE GAS AND IT HESITATES AND DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO PULL OUT SO I PUSH HARDER AND THEN IT JERKS AND TAKES OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL THAT WAS NORMAL. AFTER THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODIFICATION OVERRIDE SYSTEM MY CAR. MY CAR DOES NOT DRIVE RIGHT OR FEELS GOOD THERE FEELS LIKE SOMETHING WRONG WITH STEERING. AND THE HESITATION AT A RED LIGHT IS STILL THE SAME. I ALSO WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A RECALL ON MY OIL COOLER HOSE THAT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. I HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING ON THE OIL COOLER HOSE BEING ON THE RECALL. THIS RESULTS IN THE VISORS BLOCKING THE DRIVERS VIEW (AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER'S VIEW), WHICH IMPAIR A CLEAR VIEW OF THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN VICTORVILLE, CALIFORNIA HAS INSPECTED THE VISORS; THEY REPORT THAT THIS IS A COMMON REPAIR HOWEVER, AFTER CONTACTING THE REGIONAL SERVICE ADVISOR FOR TOYOTA, THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR PRODUCT DEFECT, AND ADVISED THAT THE CUSTOMER SIMPLY PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER OFFERED TO FIX AT COST FOR THE SUM OF $100, PER VISOR, PLUS LABOR FOR A TOTAL OF $300. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND EXITING OFF THE INTERSTATE, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP BEFORE TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT CAR NEVER CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHICH FORCED ME TO ENTER ONTO THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT REGARD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY THE RIGHT LANE WAS CLEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE GARAGE THAT DAY SO THEY COULD WORK ON IT THE NEXT DAY. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $600. THE BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING. THE ONLY THING I EVER NOTICED PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING WAS THAT SOMETIMES THERE WOULD BE A SWOOSHING SOUND ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. *TR
I WAS COMING OUT OF A BANK DRIVE-THROUGH WHEN SUDDENLY THE 2007 CAMRY-HYBRID, WITH APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES RAN, DID NOT STOP AT THE EXIT TO THE PRINCIPAL STREET, THANKFULLY NO CAR WAS COMING FROM THAT STREET. IT STARTED TO RUN ALSO WITH DIFFICULTY, AND THE VSC SYSTEM APPEARED ON THE SCREEN. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS PROGRAMMING ISSUE, THEY RE-PROGRAM IT AND THAT WAS IT. THEY COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY IT DEPROGRAMMED. ELEVEN MONTHS AFTER THAT EVENT, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SUDDENLY, THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES, I GOT REALLY NERVOUS AND CALLED A TOWING COMPANY TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. I WAS AT LOW SPEED AND I COULD MANAGE TO STOP. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS AND COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM OF WHY THE PROGRAMMING SCRAMBLE LIKE THAT, THEY JUST REPROGRAM IT AND THAT'S ALL FOR THEM. IN THE MEANTIME, I'M SCARED TO DEATH OF GOING TO THE HIGHWAY WITH THAT CAR, SPECIALLY WHEN I THINK IT CAN COMBINE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. THE TWO OTHER FAILURE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 60 AND 70 MPH THE VEHICLE OVER ACCELERATED THE SET SPEEDS.
