THE ACCELERATOR OF MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 (PURCHASED IN APRIL OF 2007) HAS THE "HESITATION ISSUE". THE CAR DOESN'T PROCEED AT ALL OR GAIN ENOUGH SPEED TO PROCEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL FROM A FULL-STOPPED POSITION. I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON 10/02/07 PARTIALLY DUE TO THE ISSUE BECAUSE I COULDN'T AVOID FAST ENOUGH A VEHICLE MAKING A RECKLESS LEFT-TURN. THERE WAS NO INJURY AMONG RIDERS IN MY CAR ALTHOUGH THE OTHER DRIVER ESCAPED THE ACCIDENT SCENE AND I'M NOT SURE WHETHER THE DRIVER IS HURT. MY CAR IS IN AN AUTO BODY SHOP CURRENTLY BUT WOULDN'T LIKE TO DRIVE IT ONCE IT IS FIXED A FEW DAYS FROM TODAY. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANK YOU. *JB
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN ON THREE OCCASIONS. DEALER TOLD CONSUMER THEY NEVER HEARD OF A PROBLEM LIKE THAT AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *KB *TR SEE ALSO 10203400. *DSY
MY TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2007 MODEL HAD THE UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION PROBLEM ON MULTIPLE INSTANCES MAKING IT HARD TO CONTROL AND ONCE IN A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. I CALLED THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT FOR EXAMINATION, THEY ASKED ME TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM ON THE SPOT, BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO AT THAT INSTANT. THE DEALERSHIP THEN LATER SAID IT WAS LIKELY DUE TO FLOOR MATS AND I HAD THE FLOOR MATS SECURED (EVEN THOUGHT THAT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE THE CAUSE.) BASED ON RECENT REPORTS I AM CONCERNED THAT IT IS LIKELY DUE TO A DIFFERENT MECHANICAL PROBLEM ACKNOWLEDGED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY RECALL OR REPAIR NOTIFICATIONS FOR MY CAR YET AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED FOR A WHILE; HOWEVER THE FAILURE RE-OCCURRED. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE REGIONAL MANAGER. THE MANAGER STATED THEY WILL COVER THE COST TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE; BUT THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,637.
I LEASED A TOYOTA CAMRY XLE 2007 MODEL FROM PATT LOBB TOYOTA, MCKINNEY, TX SOMETIME IN THE LAST QUARTER OF 2007. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION SO MANY TIMES AND COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, FIRST TIME WITH IN THE FIRST WEEK OF LEASING, AND THEY TOLD IT IS DUE TO RACK AND PINION STEERING WHICH GIVES ME A DIFFERENT FEEL, SECOND TIME THEY BLAMED ON MY TIRES AS THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TREAD DEPTH AND LAST TIME THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM ALWAYS HAPPENED WHEN I ACCELERATE AROUND 60 MPH. *TR
MY 2007 CAMRY HAS HAD ACCELERATION (DECELERATION) PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. AFTER I RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR, MANY TIMES, THE CAR FAILS TO SLOW DOWN FOR A FEW SECONDS (BOTH IN SPEED AND RPM). I THEREFORE HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE FAR MORE SEVERELY AND URGENTLY THAN I WOULD IF THE CAR SLOWED DOWN WHEN I RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR. I'VE GONE TO MULTIPLE DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT I'VE BEEN IGNORED EACH TIME. THE DEALERS ALL HAVE SAID THAT "IT'S A TOYOTA..ONE OF THE MOST RELIABLE CARS...THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. BUT IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM, THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIX IT." IN OCTOBER OF 2007, I NARROWLY MISSED GETTING INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE TREE BRANCHES ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN I RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO BOTH SWERVE AND BRAKE REALLY HARD TO TRY TO MISS THE TREE BRANCHES. ONE OF THEM STRUCK THE RIM OF MY TIRES, BENDING IT A BIT. THE ACCELERATION (OR DECELERATION) PROBLEM HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES EACH WEEK. I'VE HAD TO COMPLETELY REPLACE MY BRAKE PADS (MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE ADDITIONAL BRAKING REQUIRED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE) FAR EARLIER THAN WITH OTHER CARS I'VE OWNED. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL TO "FIX" THE ACCELERATOR--THE RECALL ONLY RELATES TO POSSIBLE INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MATS, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR SYSTEM. I HOPE THE NHTSA LOOKS FURTHER INTO THE ACCELERATOR ISSUE WITH TOYOTAS AS I BELIEVE, BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE 2007 CAMRY, THE PROBLEMS ARE FAR MORE EXTENSIVE THAN WHAT TOYOTA HAS CLAIMED. *TR
MY DASH BOARD IS MELTING AND HAS BEEN LIKE THAT SINCE I BOUGHT IT WITH APPROXIMATELY 42000 MILES. IT DOES CAUSE A GLARE WHEN THE SUN IS BRIGHT MAKING DRIVING HAZARDOUS, IT ALSO HAS AFFECTED THE AC CONTROL PANEL.
WHEN PARKING ON THE DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITH ENOUGH THROTTLE TO PUT SKID MARKS ON THE GROUND AND PROCEEDED TO RAM INTO THE STRUCTURE. THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT IS UNKNOWN AS THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXPECTED TO "RUN INTO OUR HOUSE." WHEN POWER TOYOTA OF CERRITOS SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE SITUATION THEY DENIED AN ISSUE EXISTED WITH THE VEHICLE. NUMEROUS MANAGERS WERE SPOKEN TO INCLUDING THE SHOP FOREMAN. THEY STOOD BY THE DENIAL. WHEN THE ISSUE OF THE 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA SUDDEN THROTTLE SURGING PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT UP, MANAGEMENT FINALLY CAME OUT TO THE VEHICLE TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE CAUSE BY THE COLLISION WITH THE STRUCTURE. *TR
COMPLETE LOSS OF OIL FROM VVT OIL LINE. NO EVENTS JUST GOT HOME FROM 100 MILE TRIP SAW OIL SLICK WHEN BACKING INTO PARKING SPOT. LUCKILY SHUT ENGINE OFF BEFORE RAN DRY. SMOKE JUST STARTING. *TR
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED A REAR END COLLISION. CONSUMER STATES AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HER DAUGHTER WAS THE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO PROCEED ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A TRACTOR TRAILER. ONE WEEK AFTER THE ACCIDENT, A RECALL WAS ISSUED REGARDING THE ALL WEATHER FLOOR MATS. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM INSPECTED, BUT WAS TOLD THE MATS IN THE VEHICLE WERE NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2007 CAMRY 4 CYLINDER IN SEPT 2006. THIS IS THE 6TH TOYOTA I HAVE OWNED AND IS BY FAR THE WORST REFORMING. I HAVE 8000 MILES ON THE CAR AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION SINCE THE INITIAL PURCHASE. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AS IT PRESENTLY PERFORMS. IT SIGNIFICANTLY HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING A HIGHWAY OR CHANGING LANES ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE IS A NOTICEABLE 1-2 SECOND DELAY FROM THE TIME THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED AND THE CAR BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. IN ADDITION, WHEN IN CRUISE CONTROL, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE SEARCHING FOR THE CORRECT GEAR WITH THE ENGINE REVVING UP SIGNIFICANTLY AS IT DOWNSHIFTS WHILE GOING UP AN INCLINE. I HAVE BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES AND HAD THE NY REGIONAL TOYOTA REP DRIVE THE CAR. THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID HAS BEEN REPLACED, AND A CORRECTIVE TSB HAS BEEN PERFORMED TWICE. I HAVE ALSO CALLED TOYOTA IN CALIFORNIA. THE CAR STILL DOES NOT PERFORM PROPERLY AND IS HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE. THE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER AND TOYOTA HAS BEEN "THE CAR IS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED". *JB
2007 CAMRY STARTED OUT GETTING 32-34 MILES PER GALLON. AFTER DEALERSHIP DID 10,000 MILE CHECK, CAR ONLY GETS 19-24 MPG. WHEN I BROUGHT CAR IN TO DEALERSHIP WITH THIS COMPLAINT, THEY SAID THAT 24 WAS GOOD MILEAGE FOR THE CAR. IT IS ONLY 4 CYLINDER. SHOULD GET BETTER MILEAGE THAN THAT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED DURING ACCELERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ECU MODULE SHOULD BE REPROGRAMMED. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ECU MODULE, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,600.
2007 CAMRY 4 CYLINDER HESITATES AND COULD CASE AN ACCIDENT. CAR HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED AND REPORTED TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH NO ADDITIONAL HELP. *JB
I PURCHASED MY 4 CYL 2007 TOY. CAMRY LE IN 8/06. I FELT THIS WAS AN INVESTMENT MUCH LIKE MY OTHER 2. HOWEVER, BY THE 1ST OIL CHANGE I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM OF HESITATION AND STALLING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. AFTER A COMPLAINT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THEY COULD "RECALIBRATE" THE TRANSMISSION AND FIX THE ISSUE. I ALLOWED THE ADJ. TO BE PERFORMED. THE ISSUE WAS IMPROVED FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS BUT MUCH TO MY DISMAY RETURNED WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. ONCE AGAIN, I COMPLAINED TO MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT "IT WAS JUST THE WAY THE NEW CAMRY WAS MADE TO ACHIEVE BETTER GAS MILEAGE AND THAT IF I WANTED MORE POWER, I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A 6 CYL." THE SALESMAN THAT SOLD ME THE CAR, OFFERED THE SOLUTION OF ME PURCHASING A TURBO BOOSTER FOR THE CAR. THE COST ESTIMATED IN THE THOUSANDS. THIS WAS NOT AN OPTION. THE PROBLEM WORSENED IN THE WINTER MONTHS, CAUSING ME MANY INSTANCES OF CLOSE CALLS. ON ONE OCCASION I MADE A LEGAL RIGHT TURN ON RED WHEN IT APPEARED THE PATH WAS CLEAR, A DRIVER SUDDENLY CHANGED THEIR MIND TO COME STRAIGHT INTO MY LANE BEHIND ME. I LOOKED IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR, SAW THE ONCOMING CAR, PRESSED THE GAS AND THE CAR WENT NO WHERE, SIMPLY COASTED DOWN THE ON RAMP. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR KICKED INTO GEAR, REDLINED IN RPMS AND FINALLY TOOK OFF ALLOWING ME TO GET OUT OF THE OTHER DRIVER'S WAY. THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY OTHER INSTANCES TO DISCUSS IN THIS FORUM, HOWEVER, THIS WAS THE WORST AND MOST SCARY. I IMPLORE YOUR ORGANIZATION TO MAKE TOYOTA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. THE CALIBRATION IS NOT A VIABLE SOLUTION B/C IT DOES NOT CURE THE PROBLEM, MERELY STOPS THE COMPLAINT FOR A FEW WEEKS. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 1 YEAR NOW AND FELT THAT I HAD NO RECOURSE ON THE ISSUE ANY LONGER UNTIL THE NEWS REPORTS CAME OUT. I HAVE A RENEWED HOPE THAT YOUR CONCERNS WILL PROMPT FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION TO THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY ISSUE. *JB

TERRIBLE HESITATION PROBLEM IN GENERAL ACCELERATION AND OVERALL LACK OF ENGINE POWER IN 2007 4 CYLINDER TOYOTA CAMRY. VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW 09/12/07, CURRENTLY HAS 6,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. A TOYOTA TSB WAS PERFORMED AT DEALERSHIP. DID NOT CORRECT PROBLEM. THIS IS A SCARY SITUATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER IN ENTRANCE RAMP INTERSTATE TRAFFIC AND AND INSTANCE WHEN INSTANT ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED. THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN DAILY BY MY WIFE, AND WE ARE BOTH FEARFUL AND CONCERNED THAT SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE OF THIS CAMRY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 2007 CAMRY ON LEVEL ROADWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AT 70 MPH, TRANSMISSION WILL SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFT SEVERAL GEARS CAUSING CAR TO ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY AND ROCKET FORWARD. DURING ONE SUCH INSTANCE MY CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND ALMOST DROVE UNDER A TRACTOR TRAILER THAT WAS TRAVELING IN FRONT OF US. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PHENOMENON. WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA ON 10/01/07. AN APPOINTMENT WAS SET UP FOR LOCAL DEALER TO CHECK OUT PROBLEM. AFTER TOYOTA HAD THE CAR FOR FULL DAY, THEY RESPONDED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. UPON PICKING UP THE CAR I FOUND THAT THEY HAD NOT DRIVEN THE CAR OFF THE DEALER LOT. UPON QUESTIONING THE SERVICE MANAGER, HOW THEY EXPECTED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ACTUALLY DRIVING THE CAR, HE BEGAN SCREAMING AND WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. FINALLY, HE AGREED TO AN ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENT WITH A 'TECH PERSON' THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR WHILE THE TECH PERSON WAS RIDING IN THE CAR. THERE WAS NO FURTHER FOLLOW UP TESTING BY TOYOTA. I WILL NO LONGER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING THIS CAMRY. NOTE: THIS CAR HAD IT'S 'SOFTWARE' UPDATED PREVIOUSLY DUE TO SLUGGISH ACCELERATION IN TRAFFIC. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL AND HESITATION. I RECORDED ONE DAY THE NUMBER OF TIMES THE CRUISE CONTROL JUMPED DOWN 2 GEARS ON THE INTERSTATE IN FLORIDA. 50 TIMES IN 1 HOUR. THE TAC DISPLAYS A RPM OF 2,300 THEN IT JUMPS TO 3,400 THEN DOWN SHIFTS AGAIN TO 5,400 RPM. YES, IT IS DESIGNED TO DO THIS. TOYOTA SAID. MY PREVIOUS CAMRY DID NOT DO THIS. MY COMPLAINT IS, THAT IF TOYOTA DISCLOSED THIS 'DESIGN FLAW' TO ANY POTENTIAL CUSTOMER, THEY WOULD NOT SELL ANY 2007 4 CYL. CAMRYS. THE HESITATION IS VERY UNSAFE, YET THEY SAY IT IS OPERATING AS 'DESIGNED' . A 1-3 SECOND DELAY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I AM SURE THAT THE GAS TANK WAS NOT DESIGNED TO EXPLODE ON A REAR END COLLISIONS ON A FORD PINTO, BUT IT DID. THE FORD EXPLORER WAS NOT DESIGNED TO ROLLOVER, BUT IT DID. THE CHEV. VEGAS ALUMINUM ENGINE WAS NOT DESIGNED TO FAIL, BUT IT DID. THE 'CORVAIR' UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BE UNSAFE, BUT IT WAS. YES, ALL I HEAR IS THAT IT IS 'DESIGNED' TO DO THIS. I AM REQUESTING THAT DUE TO TOYOTA NEGLECTING TO 'DISCLOSE' THESE KNOWN ISSUES THAT THEY BUY THIS UNSAFE CAR BACK. I AM CURRENTLY IN ARBITRATION. WE SHALL SEE. IF THIS FAILS, I WILL SEEK THE LEMON LAW IN MY STATE. *JB
I PURCHASED THE TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 LE AUTOMATIC IN MAY 07 FROM LAKEFOREST TOYOTA IN GAITHERSBURG MD. IT HAS ONLY 2,980 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES LOSS OF POWER WHEN TURNING IN INTERSECTIONS. THIS OCCURS MAINLY ON RIGHT TURNS FOLLOWS STOPS AT STOP SIGNS AND TRAFFIC SIGNALS. WHEN STARTING INTO A TURN, THE CAR OCCASIONALLY FAILS TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. YOU CAN PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR MAY NOT RESPOND OR ONLY BARELY RESPOND. THIS LEAVES THE VEHICLE STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION WITH APPROACHING TRAFFIC. PERFORMANCE IS INCONSISTENT WITH THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING SOMETIMES AND NOT OTHER. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIME. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT IS LIKELY TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. FRANKLY, I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. I HAD ONE EXPERIENCE WHERE ANOTHER VEHICLE HAS TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES AND STOPPED WITHIN A FEW FEET OF MY CAR WHEN CAMRY FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. I WON'T MAKE A TURN UNLESS I HAVE TWO TO THREE TIME AS MUCH OPEN ROAD AS I DID IN MY PRIOR VEHICLES. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. CAR HESITATION WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC WHICH CAUSED US TO GET ALMOST HIT. HESITATES WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO GO AROUND CORNER AND TAKES SECONDS AFTER CAR HAS SHIFTED BACK DOWN TO 1ST TO GET UP AND GO WHICH SCARES ME THAT I WILL BE HIT FROM BEHIND. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND BRAKE AND STABILITY CONTROLS WERE DISABLED. VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN CAR WAS NEW IN 2007. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND COULD NOT REPLICATE. THEY TOLD ME IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTART. THAT WORKS BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, CAR IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I HAVE SINCE HAD THIS HAPPEN RECENTLY 4 TIMES IN DEC 2013. *TR
RANDOMLY HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. ALSO, OCCASIONALLY PAUSES WHILE IN TRAFFIC. HAS NOT YET STALLED. ACTS LIKE A CLOGGED FUEL FILTER BUT AFTER SEEING NEWS ARTICLE REALIZE ITS A "COMMON ISSUE". CURRENT MILEAGE IS 11,200 BUT HAS DONE THIS FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS. AFTER INSTALLING KRACO FLOOR MATS INTO OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY, WE TOOK A ROAD TRIP. ON THE HIGHWAY, I WAS DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I TRIED ADJUSTING THE CRUISE CONTROL WITH THE CRUISE LEVER, AND WHEN THAT DID NOT WORK, TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF. I CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE TO OVER 85 MPH (FROM ORIGINAL CRUISING AT APPROX 68 MPH). I TRIED BRAKING, BUT THE BRAKES PROVIDED LITTLE TO NO RESULT. MY TWO PASSENGERS TRIED TO HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS: I TRIED PUSHING THE BRAKE, ACCELERATOR, AND CLUTCH (5-SPEED CAR), AND NONE HELPED. I STARTED JAMMING MY FOOT INTO THE AREA AROUND THE ACCELERATOR, AND FINALLY THERE BEGAN TO BE SOME EFFECT. ONE PASSENGER SUGGESTED THE FLOOR MAT, AND SO I FINALLY DUG MY FEET INTO IT AND PULLED BACK, FINALLY MAKING THE NEEDED IMPACT OF HAVING CONTROL OF THE CAR AGAIN. WE HAVE USED LARGE BINDER CLIPS TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE FLOOR MATS FROM INTERFERING WITH THE ACCELERATOR; NOT SURE YET IF THIS IS AN ADEQUATE SOLUTION. *JB
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2007 CAMRY LE, 4-CYLINDER, 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC WITH 7,700 MILES FROM DOWN EAST TOYOTA IN BREWER, MAINE. EVER SINCE OUR TEST DRIVE WE'VE EXPERIENCED LACK OF ACCELERATION (HESITATION) FROM A STOP OR AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO TURN OR PROCEED, SHIFTING PROBLEMS (CONSTANT UP AND DOWN SHIFTING AT CERTAIN SPEEDS; CAR NOT SURE WHICH GEAR TO BE IN AND FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS SURGING) AND UNABLE TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL DUE ACCELERATING TOO QUICKLY DUE TO DOWNSHIFTING AND THEN OVERSHOOTING THE SET SPEED. SOME OF THESE SYMPTOMS ARE SPORADIC; YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE CAR IS GOING TO MOVE OR NOT WHEN STEPPING DOWN HARD AND QUICKLY ON THE GAS PEDAL. SOMETIMES IT "RED-LINES" BEFORE ACCELERATING, OTHER TIMES THERE IS BARELY ANY RESPONSE AT ALL. SO FAR HAVE ONLY DRIVEN ON BARE DRY/WET ROADS. WE ARE NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO DRIVING IT ON SNOW AND ICE. WE WERE TOLD BY DET AFTER THE TEST DRIVE AND TOYOTA CORPORATION THAT THIS IS NORMAL PERFORMANCE FOR THIS VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TSBS (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS) CONCERNING THESE PROBLEMS. EG036-07 IS THE LATEST ECM UPDATE, WHICH WAS DONE ON 08/14/07 WITHOUT ANY NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENTS. WE WOULD NEVER HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IF WE HAD ONLY RESEARCHED THE CAR BEFOREHAND ON THE INTERNET. WHEN PULLING OFF THE CAR FROM THE GARAGE ON MONDAY MORNING THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO STEER. I RODE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. I LEFT THE CAR WITH THEM FOR DIAGNOSIS. RECEIVED A CALL INFORMING THAT THE POWER STEERING COMPUTER WAS DAMAGED. I ALSO TRIED TO CONTACT THE CAR BRAND OFFICE AT PR FOR COMPLAINING WITHOUT SUCESS; WAS NOT ABLE TO GE THORUGH AFTER HOLDING FOR 30+ MINUTES, TWICE. THE CAR STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP; THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND HAVE TO BE MAILED FROM SOME PLACE IN THE US.

THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT DESCRIBED HER FAILURES EXACTLY. THE DEALER RECALIBRATED HER COMPUTER AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT WITH BOTH THE VEHICLE HESITATING AND THE GEARS SHIFTING AS THOUGH THEY WERE MANUAL. BOTH FAILURES CONTINUE TO OCCUR. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,550. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. THE LAST TOYOTA CAMRY I BOUGHT WAS IN 2007, IT WAS THE FIRST NEW CAMRY I EVER BOUGHT, I'VE OWNED 3 OTHERS IN MY LIFE, BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST NEW ONE I EVER PURCHASED. APX 9 MONTHS LATER ME AND MY WIFE WENT TO THE FL KEYS AND WENT TO BAHIA STATE PARK, AND UPON LEAVING THE PARK, I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, BUT WHEN GOING 10-15 MPH, THE CAR TOOK OFF AND WE ENDED UP HITTING A TREE HEAD ON. WE BOTH ENDED UP AT THE FISHERMAN'S HOSPITAL IN MARATHON ON OUR 2ND DAY ON VACATION ALONG WITH A $120 TKT FROM THE FL HIGHWAY PATROL. TWO WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR FLOOR MATS, I CALLED TOYOTA AND AFTER TALKING WITH A GIRL THERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE FLOOR MATS THAT WERE BEING RECALLED, I TOLD HER THAN THEY HAVE MORE THAN A MAT PROBLEM. SHE SAID I SHOULD SEND ALL INFO AS WELL AS MEDICAL BILLS TO THEM WHICH DID, I WAS NOTIFIED 2 WEEKS LATER THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ACCIDENT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR RECALL. TOYOTA-ENGINEERING HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM EITHER, SO THE DEALER CAN ONLY CHECK/ADD OIL WEEKLY-INDEFINITELY. 2) THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN ENTERING/MERGING FREEWAYS. THERE WAS AN IMPROVEMENT IN ACCELERATION FROM STOP SIGNS AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS. AUG .28, 2007 I TOOK MY FIRST TRIP WITH THE UPGRADED SOFTWARE. THE ACCELERATION GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY WAS BETTER BUT NOT GREAT. I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE UPGRADE. I DROVE 200 MILES, EXITED THE HIGHWAY, GOT GAS (SHUT OFF THE CAR). I DID NOT REACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I PULLED INTO A PARKING GARAGE, FOUND A PARKING SPACE, BEGAN TO PULL IN WHEN THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED, HIT THE WALL AND I COULDN'T STOP THE TIRES FROM SPINNING EVEN BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE. I THREW THE CAR INTO PARK AND SHUT OF THE ENGINE. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR BUT NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. AUG.29, 2007,I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT HOME. UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE CRUISE CONTROL SYMBOL DISPLAYED AND WENT OFF ONLY AFTER I DEPRESSED THE CRUISE CONTROL LEVER A COUPLE TIMES. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED SEPT. 17, 2007, COMPETITION TOYOTA DID A COMPLIMENTARY SAFETY VEHICLE INSPECTION ON SEPT. 21, 2007 AND FOUND THE CAR TO BE SAFE TO OPERATE. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND LIKE A DISAPPEARING TOOTHACHE I DON?T WANT THIS ISSUE DISMISSED BY THE PEOPLE AT TOYOTA AS A NON-EVENT. I STILL BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE HAVING THE ACCELERATION SOFTWARE UPDATED THEN ME HAVING THE ISSUES I HAVE STATED ABOVE. I PURCHASED MY CAMRY LE 4 CYLINDER ON 1/31/07, AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS INITIALLY. HOWEVER, WHEN I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CAR DOWNSHIFTS TO THIRD GEAR ON A SLIGHT INCLINE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THREE ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO DIAGNOSE/CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL; HOWEVER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOR TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICES DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. INFORMATION WAS SENT THE DATA TO TOYOTA FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS. WHEN THE CAR IS IN CRUISE CONTROL AND GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH AND ENTERING AN INCLINE, THE CAR WILL SHIFT BETWEEN FOURTH (2600 RPM SURGES TO 2800 RPM) AND THIRD GEAR (3800 RPM TO 4000 RPM). AT 70 MPH AND THE CAR WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL AND GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY ON FLAT SURFACE, ENTERING AN INCLINE, THE CAR SKIPPED FOURTH AND DOWN SHIFTED TO THIRD GEAR. THE TACK REGISTERED 5000 RPM AND THEN SETTLED BACK TO 4500 RPM. IT APPEARS THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS OVERCORRECTION WHEN IT SHOULD DO NOTHING. THE CAR IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF GOING UP SMALL INCLINES WITHOUT EVER DOWN SHIFTING OUT OF OVERDRIVE INTO THIRD GEAR. THE CAR PERFORMS WELL OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DELAY WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE IN THE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY! AFTER A SCARY INCIDENT INVOLVING A TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK, POOR ACCELERATION, AND A HILL, ( FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT) I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS TO REPORT THE INCIDENT ( BECAUSE OF THE ACCELERATION DELAY). THEY WERE OF NO HELP, BUT TOLD ME TO BRING MY CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE ACCELERATION DELAY. THE DEALERS MECHANIC REPORTED BACK TO ME AFTER A QUICK EXAMINATION AND TEST DRIVE THAT THERE IS NO ACCELERATION DELAY ISSUE ,AND THAT THE CAR IS BUILT THIS WAY. WHAT THE MECHANIC DID DO( POSSIBLY TO APPEASE ME) WAS RE-SET THE ACCELERATION COMPONENT IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER. THIS 'ADJUSTMENT' HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE, AND I STILL EXPERIENCE ACCELERATION DELAY TO THIS DAY. UNFORTUNATELY, TOYOTA DOES NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN FIXING THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY FLAW. BOUGHT 2007 CAMRY SE ON JULY 23, 2007. HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THE FOLLOWING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: 1. TRANSMISSION "BOGS DOWN" OR HESITATES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS. RE-CALIBRATION OF THE ECM DID NOT HELP. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CRASH IN MY 24 YEARS OF DRIVING, BUT WITHIN THE FIRST 21 DAYS OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE CAUSED THREE CRASHES TO *ALMOST* OCCUR. THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THEN WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED DOWN TO THE FLOOR, IT OVER-COMPENSATES AND I'VE ALMOST RAN OVER THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME. THE OTHER TWO TIMES OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAVE ALMOST RUN ME OVER...THEIR VEHICLES ACCELERATE NORMALLY, WHILE MINE HAS A 2-3 SECOND DELAY. 2. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SEEMS TO BE CONFUSED WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 28 TO 35, 38 TO 42, AND 45 TO 51. IT SHIFTS CONTINUALLY AND AT THIS RATE, THIS TRANSMISSION WILL BE WORE OUT BY 37,000 MILES (BUT THEY WON'T CARE, BECAUSE BY THEN THE WARRANTY WILL BE EXPIRED). THIS IS CLEARLY AN UNSAFE SITUATION AND *SOMEONE* NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE IT CAUSES A FATAL CRASH. *TR
