TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING FUMES THAT MADE HER SICK. HOWEVER, SHE WAS UNSURE OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE FUMES. SHE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL 3 DIFFERENT TIMES , AND WAS ADMITTED FOR A WEEK EACH OF THE LAST 2 TIMES. HER DOCTOR SAID THAT SHE HAD CHEMICAL PNEUMONIA OR STATIS ASTHMATICUS. NEITHER SPEED NOR WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE A FACTOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 1,600. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE AT A STOP SIGN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL EXTENDS TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO REMOVE HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER FOR IT TO RETURN TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO APPROXIMATELY THREE DEALERS, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FILED CASE NUMBER 200801100060 WITH TOYOTA. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN JUNE 2006. AFTER RETURNING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THE SLUGGISH ACCELERATION FROM A STOP WAS CONSISTENT AND THE PASSING GEAR DOWNSHIFT FELT DELAYED AS IF THERE WAS A COMMUNICATION LAG BETWEEN THE TCM AND ACTUAL SWITCHING OF THE SHIFT SOLENOIDS AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 50 MPH. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT SET SPEED. ON STEEPER GRADES AND ON THE INTERSTATE THE DOWN SHIFTS ARE VERY FREQUENT AND AT TIMES VERY DRAMATIC. WHEN CRESTING A STEEP HILL THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS AT THE CREST AND TAKES 2 OR 3 SECONDS TO RELEASE THE THROTTLE, PICKING UP ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 15 MPH AND I HAVE TO BREAK SUDDENLY IN ORDER TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN CAME OUT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 FOR AN ECM CALIBRATION ENHANCEMENT TO SHIFTING PERFORMANCE AND SMOOTHNESS AND THIS NEW COMPUTER SOFTWARE HAD TO BE DOWNLOADED IN THE CAR AND THIS WOULD RECALIBRATE ECM (PCM) ENGINE & TRANSMISSION. THE CATCHER TO THIS IS THAT THE CUSTOMER HAS TO REQUEST THIS DOWNLOAD BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP WILL FOLLOW THROUGH. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE BULLETIN HOW CAN AN AVERAGE CUSTOMER REQUEST THIS? THE DOWNLOAD WAS PERFORMED ON THIS CAR BUT DIDN'T HELP ANY. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK THE CAR BACK AND I WAS GIVEN A NEW ONE IN DEC. 2006. SAME THING WITH THIS ONE. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT WITH AN APPOINTED ARBITRATOR WHO HAD THE CAR INSPECTED BY AN ASE INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR. HE AGREED WITH THE ABOVE BUT IN CONCLUSION STATED THAT TOYOTA SHOULD "DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY". I FEEL THAT THIS IS A NO WIN SITUATION FOR THE CONSUMER AND TOYOTA KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE PROBLEMS BUT JUST DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THEM. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF SAFETY THE "LEMON LAW" SHOULD BE PUT INTO EFFECT AND THESE CARS RECALLED. TOYOTA IS NOT GOING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY UNLESS FORCED. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST TOYOTA VEHICLE. *JB
WE PURCHASED AN 07 CAMRY NOV 06. AT 7,000 MILES IT STARTED SLIPPING, NOT ACCELERATING. WE TOOK TO DEALER. THEY RESET MEMORY. DIDN'T HELP. TOOK A SECOND TIME, RESET MEMORY, DIDN'T HELP. WENT THROUGH ARBITRATOR, DIDN'T HELP. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN IT NEEDS TO ACCELERATE, IT DOESN'T. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF A DEFECT IN THE COMPUTER CHIP, BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. PLEASE HELP ME AND THE OTHER 07 CAMRY OWNERS BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS WHICH COULD POSSIBLY BE FATAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT REALIZED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE RPMS ARE HIGH AND THEN THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATES. SHE MUST DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO MERGE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES, BUT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000. UPDATED 01-16-08. *KB *JB
I BAUGHT A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN OCTOBER 2006. AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION FALED. PRIOR TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME SHIFTING GEARS. THE CAR WOULD STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THERE WAS VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED GRADUALLY ,THEN INCREASEED DRAMATICALLY. THISWAS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I HAPPENED TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR STALLED. LUCKELY, IT WAS 4AM, WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THAT MORNING HAD TOYOTA RETREIVE THE VEHICLE. THE CARWAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIR BY TOYOTA. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL. SHE ACCELERATED TO 75 MPH WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE BY TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO RELEASE THE CRUISE CONTROL. AFTER THREE TO FOUR ATTEMPTS, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WOULD ACCELERATE AND THE CRUISE CONTROL REMAIN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN DECELERATING ONCE HER FOOT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, OTHERWISE, IF SHE WERE TO RELEASE THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE AGAIN. THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROAD, APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT BEGAN OPERATING NORMALLY, HOWEVER SHE DID NOT ACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN. THE TOYOTA DEALER COULD NOT LOCATE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ALSO FOUND NO FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 16,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2007 BLACK PAINT IS DEFECTIVE DESIGN TECHNOLOGY. TOYOTA CHANGED TO A WATER BASED PAINT TWO YEARS AGO, AND THE PRODUCT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND PROCESS. TOYOTA IS HIDING THIS FACT FROM ITS CUSTOMER BASE. CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE GET CASE NUMBER AND COMPLAINT LIKE CRAZY. FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. BE HONEST, YOU PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR A DEFECTIVE PAINT JOB AND THEY KNEW IT. NEVER BUY A TOYOTA AGAIN! *AK
THROTTLE LAG WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR FROM STOP. DID NOT HAVE THIS ON MY 1999 SOLARA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25-45 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SURGED PERIODICALLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE DROVE 18 MILES PER GALLON IN CITY DRIVING ONLY. THE FAILURES HAVE NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15.
VEHICLE SURGED AND HAD DELAYED ACCELERATION. ALSO, HAD AN EPISODE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GO OVER 10 MPH, AND HAD A STRONG BURNING SMELL. VEHICEL SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR UNDER SUSTAINED AND STEADY SPEED, AND ALSO BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING.*AK THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, AND MOST OF THESE SYMPTOMS (SURGING/DELAYED ACCELERATION) WERE NORMAL FOR THE CAMRY. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THIS IS DANGEROUS. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AT ALL. DEALER HAD IT FLATBEDDED TO THEM. REPLACED ECU COMPUTER. THIS DID NOT FIX THE SLIPPING TRANSMISSION OR THE ENGINE SURGING OR DELAYED ACCELERATION. THIS VEHICLE IS HARD TO CONTROL SPEEDWISE DUE TO NOT KNOWING IF THE CAR WILL GO WHEN PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. SOMETIMES THERE IS UP TO A THREE SECOND DELAY, OTHER TIMES IT SURGES TO HIGH RPM AND YOU SHOOT FORWARD. A VERY SCARY CAR TO DRIVE. DEALER WON'T/CANT FIX.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WE PURCHASED A CAMRY LE IN MID-JANUARY AND HAVE BROUGHT IT IN TWICE SINCE THEN FOR ISSUES RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION - CONTINUOUS SHIFTING (OR NOT) AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35 AND 45 (EVEN WHEN TRYING TO MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL), HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE OR CLIMB A HILL, SUDDEN DOWNSHIFTS WHEN BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS - AND HAVE BEEN SENT HOME BOTH TIMES WITH THE MESSAGE THAT IT IS OPERATING "THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE," THAT I JUST HAPPEN TO DRIVING AT A SPEED AT WHICH IT IS MORE NOTICEABLE. I FIND THIS ANSWER COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I HAPPEN TO DO A LOT OF CITY DRIVING - MOSTLY 45 MPH AND UNDER - SO I JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT? THE JERKINESS OF BOTH ACCELERATING AND BRAKING COULD BE DANGEROUS, AND TRY AS I MIGHT TO GET USED TO IT, IT IS SO UNPREDICTABLE THAT I JUST CAN'T IGNORE IT. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER IS JUST ABOUT TO START DRIVING, AND I WON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH HER DRIVING THIS CAR UNTIL THESE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN SATISFACTORILY ADDRESSED. BUT FIRST, TOYOTA MUST ADMIT THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM!. *JB
I BOUGHT 2 2007 TOYOTA CAMRYS, BOTH ARE 4 CYL CARS. WHEN DRIVING THESE CARS, AND YOU COME OFF A RAMP OR YOU ARE AT AN INTERSECTION AND YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL HESITATION. THIS HAS BECOME VERY VERY DANGEROUS AT TIMES. ON AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THERE WAS A 4-5 SECOND "PAUSE" AND THEN THE CAR KICKED IN AND ACCELERATED. THIS IS DANGEROUS. TAKE IT FROM A POLICE OFFICER, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *JB
2007 CAMRY-TRANSMISSIONS HESITATES-WAS IN 3 + TIMES TO CORRECT...NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AND VERY UNSAFE. WAS RECALIBRATED TWICE, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. HAVE HAD NUMEROUS NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION. WENT THROUGH TOYOTA ARBITRATION, WAS DENIED. THERE IS A REAL DESIGN DEFECT WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED VERY UNSAFE TO OPERATE. *TR
MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY INTO FAST-MOVING TRAFFIC, THE CAR HESITATED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE IT DOWNSHIFTED AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE. ON-COMING CARS HAD TO BRAKE AND HONKED AT ME. THAT CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR ALSO HESITATES WHEN JUST SLOWING DOWN TO TURN A CORNER. IT TAKES 5 TO 10 SECONDS FOR THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THERE HAS BEEN EXCESSIVE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 65-70 MPH AND CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO VIBRATE. THE DEALER REBALANCED THE TIRES, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS A YEAR LATER. A MECHANIC DROVE THE VEHICLE, CONFIRMED THE VIBRATION, BUT PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,900.
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, ONCE SHORTLY AFTER I GOT THE IN CAR IN 2007 AND AGAIN IN 2008 WHEN IT WENT IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE ISSUE: ON OCCASION, WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR WILL "SURGE" FORWARD MOVING FROM AN ALMOST IMPERCEIVABLE AMOUNT UP TO ABOUT A FOOT. THIS IS NOT A CONSISTENT PROBLEM AND DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST OFTEN IN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING AND I HAVE NOTICED IT MORE WHEN THE CAR IS ON AN INCLINE BUT IT HAS HAPPENED AT OTHER TIMES. THIS IS NOT A FLOOR MAT ISSUE - MY FLOOR MAT HAS THE LOCKING MECHANISM TO KEEP IT FROM SLIDING AND WHEN CHECKED IT HAS NEVER BEEN UNDER OR AROUND EITHER THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR. THE INITIAL RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WAS THAT THE CAR COULD NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MOVE FORWARD IF THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED AND THAT I PROBABLY JUST NOTICED THE ENGINE GOING FROM GAS TO HYBRID AND THOUGHT IT MOVED. THE SECOND COMPLAINT RECEIVED MUCH THE SAME REACTION. I WAS SHOCKED THAT THE HYBRIDS WERE NOT RECALLED WITH THE ACCELERATOR ISSUE BUT GIVEN PRIOR COMPLAINTS THE DEALERSHIP HAS AGREED TO CHECK THE CAR AGAIN. *TR
THROTTLE AND TRANSMISSION HESITATION WHEN STARTING OUT FROM STOP, AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO INCREASE SPEED, IE: HAZARD AVOIDANCE, FOLLOWED BY SPEED OVERSHOOT. CRUISE CONTROL OVER REACTED TO SLIGHT GRADE INCREASE, SUCH AS AN OVERPASS, BY DOWN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION 1 TO 2 GEARS AND ACCELERATING PAST SET SPEED BY 7 TO 10 MPH. CAR WILL SLOW TO SET SPEED AND REPEAT THE DOWN SHIFTING AND ACCELERATION UNTIL THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF OR THE ROAD WAS LEVELED. DURING LONG UP HILL DRIVING THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS TO BE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY AS IT PRESENTED A GREAT POSSIBILITY OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER MAINTAIED S THAT THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND CRUISE CONTROL OPERATED NORMALLY. *AK
MY CAR MAKES A THUMPING NOISE WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL. IT OCCURS WHEN YOU TAKE OFF FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A THUMP COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I FEAR THAT THIS MAY BE A DEFECT IN THE WAY THE GAS TANK IS SECURED AND THAT THE THUMP MAY INDICATE THAT THE GAS TANK MOVES DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE GAS. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THE THUMP IS A NORMAL SOUND AND IT COMES FROM THE GAS HITTING THE INSIDE OF THE GAS TANK AND THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE AND FEAR THAT THIS MAY BE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. *JB

HE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 5,200. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED NUMEROUS PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 09/26/07 *TR

THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN SURGE FORWARD AFTER APPROXIMATELY 50-80 FEET WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
COMPLAINT: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND DURING ACCELERATION ESPECIALLY FROM A STOP AS WELL AS DURING NORMAL DRIVING. LACK OF RESPONSE RECURS REGULARLY SINCE PURCHASE IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR. PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO TOYOTA WITH NO RESPONSE AS WELL AS TO TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHO HAS ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED MANY COMPLAINTS BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG AS WELL AS TOYOTA HAS TOLD THEM THERE IS NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS CLOSE CALLS AND NEAR-MISSES WHEN DRIVING ESPECIALLY WHEN CROSSING INTERSECTIONS PUTTING MY FAMILIES LIVES IN JEOPARDY DUE TO TOYOTA'S REFUSAL TO ADMIT THEIR PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BY THIS DEPARTMENT DUE TO THE LARGE NUMBER OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

2007 TOYOTA SOLARA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, ONLY INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN IT DID HAPPEN, THE ENGINE WAS ACCELERATING AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE OR PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM GOING ANY FURTHER. THE CONSUMER ALSO COMPLAINED OF A ROUGH IDLE. THE ROUGH IDLE WAS DUE TO CRACK IN THE SPARK PLUG. A FEW TIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER 2 DAYS I CALLED THEM AND THEY DETERMINED MY TRANSMISSION WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. THEY HAD MY CAR ALMOST 2 WEEKS. A COUPLE DAYS AFTER THE NEW TRANNY WAS PUT IN I WENT ON A 120 MILE TRIP.I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY CARS PERFORMANCE. IT WOULD ACCELERATE AT HIGH SPEEDS AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND WHEN I DISENGAGED THE CRUISE. THEN WE TOOK A TRIP FROM OUR HOME IN TEXAS TO A OUR HOME TOWN IN LOUISIANA. I HAD TO FILL UP IN MY HOMETOWN AND THAT'S WHEN I DISCOVERED THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM. THE GAS IN HOUSTON TEXAS HAS ETHANOL IN IT. THE GAS IN MY HOMETOWN DOES NOT. WHEN I FILLED UP IN MY HOME TOWN WITH REGULAR UNLEADED FROM EXXON, I NOTICED THAT THE HESITATION AND TRANSMISSION NOISE WAS BARELY NOTICEABLE AFTER THE FIRST TANK FULL. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO MY HOMETOWN IT BECAME QUITE CLEAR THAT IT IS THE GAS WITH ETHANOL THAT'S CAUSING THE HESITATION AND TRANSMISSION NOISE. THE CARS BEING BUILT NOW ARE SUPPOSE TO ALL RUN ON ETHANOL, BUT IT OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT, " IT CHECKS OUT ACCORDING TO SPEC." I WAS GOING UP AN ON RAMP ONTO THE FREEWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING WHEN I NOTICED A CAR CHANGE INTO THE RIGHT LANE. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW FOR THE CAR TO GET PASS. I THEN PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN TO GET UP SPEED. WHEN I DID THAT, THE CAR DECELERATED ABOUT FIVE MILES PER HOUR AND THE CAR COMING UP BEHIND ME ALMOST RAN INTO ME. THE CRUISE CONTROL/TRANSMISSION ON MY 2007 CAMRY CAUSES THE CAR TO OPERATE IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED, DUE TO ITS SENSITIVITY, THE TRANSMISSION GOES THROUGH A SERIES OF ABRUPT DOWNSHIFTS CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AND EXCEED THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED SETTING. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR LOOSES SPEED AND THE TRANSMISSION THEN SHIFTS BACK INTO OVERDRIVE. THE DOWNSHIFTING STARTS AGAIN UNTIL THE SPEED CONTROL SETTING IS EXCEEDED. ON A LONG HILL, IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO SEQUENCE BETWEEN OVERDRIVE AND THIRD GEAR FOUR OR FIVE TIMES. THE EXCEEDING OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SETTING IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WITH TRAFFIC AHEAD OF ME. WHEN THE ROAD FLATTENS OUT AGAIN IT WILL MAINTAIN THE ORIGINAL TARGET SPEED. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, 70 MPH, THIS CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ARE MODERATE TO HEAVY IN THAT TRAFFIC FOLLOW WILL NOT HAVE ANY INDICATION THAT THE SPEED IS SLOW BY 5 MPH. HE HAS NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE IS A FLAW WITH THE ECM MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER, WHO HAS A CASE NUMBER, STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER AND OFFERED TO REPLACE THE ECM MODULE.
