CAR DOWNSHIFTS ON SMALL HILLS WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL. CAR HESITATES AT TIMES AND HAS POOR ACCELERATION AS THE TRANSMISSION SEARCHES FOR A GEAR. THIS LASTS FOR SECONDS, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. THE PROBLEMS WERE RESOLVED WITH A TSB ISSUED 8/2/07 BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AFTER A FEW DAYS. IT SEEMED TOYOTA'S "LEARNING" DRIVETRAIN RE-LEARNED ALL THE PROBLEMS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING CAUSING A GLARE, WHICH IMPAIRED THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE A REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,800.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. TOYOTA STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS. HE STATED THAT WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AT 60-65 MPH, THE VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT PICK UP SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,850 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,879. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED REPAIR INVOICES FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED A/C IS NOT WORKING, IT IS ONLY BLOWING WARM AIR REGARDLESS OF SETTING. UPDATED 08/07/07 *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND SHE WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE MANAGER DROVE THE VEHICLE IN THE LEFT LANE AND EXPERIENCED NO PULLING. HOWEVER, WHEN DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE THERE WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT, AND HE ALSO STATED IT WAS NORMAL DUE TO THE ROAD CONDITIONS, CROWN IN ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS CONSTANTLY PULLING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EACH TIME THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE , AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE ON MAY 30, 2006 AND SHE THOUGHT IT WOULD SUBSIDE AND IT WAS CURRENTLY THE SAME BUT HAS NOT GOTTEN WORSE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 30-45 MPH, THERE WAS A THREE SECOND DELAY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE AND DID NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 430 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,800. THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA AND THE PARENT COMPANY STATED THERE IS NO FIX AT THE PRESENT TIME. UPDATED 11/1/07 *TR
PURCHASED A 2007 CAMRY LE, 4 DOOR, ON 12/12/06. CRUISE CONTROL HAS FAILED MANY TIMES. WHEN GOING DOWN HILL WITH THE CRUISE ON THE CAR WILL KEEP ACCELERATING TO VERY UNSAFE SPEEDS. THIS STARTED FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. I WENT THROUGH ARBITRATION IN MARCH OF 2007 AND WAS TOLD BY THE ARBITRATOR "THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF REPAIR ATTEMPTS FOR THE SAME NONCONFORMIST THAT WILL IMPAIR THE USE, VALUE AND SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE SINCE DEC.2006". THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED AND I DON'T USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED DEATHS, THE LATEST IN CALIFORNIA, AND SEVERAL WRECKS EVEN IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE. HOW MANY LIVES MUST BE TAKEN BEFORE TOYOTA WILL STEP UP TO BAT AND MAKE A RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. THE FLOOR MATS THAT TOYOTA IS SAYING WILL CAUSE THIS PROBLEM MIGHT BE IN PART THE CAUSE BUT CERTAINLY NOT THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS SITUATION ADDRESSED SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE NEAR WRECKS THAT I HAVE ALMOST ENCOUNTERED TO NO AVAIL. THE ARBITRATOR DID AGREE WITH MY COMPLAINTS BUT AS STATED ABOVE THERE HAD NOT BEEN ENOUGH ATTEMPTS PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HOW MANY TIMES MUST ONE TAKE A VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT BEFORE ANY ACTION WILL BE TAKEN. I FEEL MY LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE RUNAROUND THAT I HAVE RECEIVED FROM TOYOTA AND THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY MALFUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALL SORTS OF DOCUMENTATION TO BACK MY COMPLAINT AND MY 2007 CAMRY IS NOT THE ONLY VEHICLE ON THE ROAD WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THE DESIGN HAD BEEN CHANGED WITH THE 2007'S AND CERTAINLY THE SYMPTOMS ARE CONSISTENT WITH CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A SIGN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE ON 2 PREVIOUS OCCASIONS ,AND FOUND THE VEHICLE TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. ALSO,M THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED ,AND THE COMPUTER REPORT READ: CANNOT DUPLICATE CUSTOMERS CONCERN . NO CODES IN SYSTEM AT THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS ROAD TESTED APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES AND NO FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT OF RECALL 06V096000, AIR BAGS. CURRENT MILEAGE, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 7000.
2007 CAMRY XLE 4-CYLINDER PURCHASED IN APRIL 2006. CAR UNPREDICTABLY HESITATED AND JERKED UPON ACCELERATION. SOMETIMES THE HESITATION LASTED A SECOND, WHILE OTHER TIMES IT LASTED AT LEAST THREE SECONDS. OCCURRED MOST OFTEN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM COASTING, WHILE CHANGING LANES, OR WHILE ACCELERATING THROUGH A TURN. CRUISE CONTROL WAS JERKY , AND CONSTANTLY REVVED THE ENGINE BEFORE ENGAGING. IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. I HAD TWO SAFETY RELATED INCIDENTS. WHILE PROCEEDING THROUGH A LEFT TURN ON HARD PACKED SNOW I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE END OF THE TURN AND THE CAR HESITATED THEN GRABBED, CAUSING THE FRONT WHEELS TO SPIN AND LOOSE TRACTION. I STOPPED THE CAR IN THE FAR LEFT ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DECELERATING IN A LEFT TURN LANE AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT A LARGE INTERSECTION. WHILE APPROACHING, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I ACCELERATED AND BEGAN THE TURN AND THE ENGINE REVVED AND ENGAGEMENT WAS DELAYED, CAUSING THE FRONT WHEELS TO LOSE TRACTION. IN BOTH CASES I WAS MOVING SLOWLY, AND HAD A LEFT TURN ARROW SO THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AT PRESENT, I AM CAREFUL WHEN MAKING TURNS WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, ACCELERATING, CHANGING LANES OR PASSING SLOWER VEHICLES. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST THE ACCELERATION SO AS NOT TO INCREASE THE RPMS SO MUCH THAT THE CAR WILL JERK FORWARD WHEN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED. HOWEVER, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE DEALERSHIP BY PHONE. IN FEBRUARY I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ANY SUCH PROBLEM. ALSO, THEY STATED THAT SOME HESITATION WAS NORMAL. I WAS ADVISED THAT I SHOULD WAIT UNTIL A BETTER SOLUTION HAS BEEN DEVISED. IN MARCH I REQUESTED THAT THEY MAKE A NOTE OF THIS PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DOCUMENT MY COMPLAINT OVER THE PHONE. I MUST LEAVE IT WITH THEM TO LET SOMEONE ELSE TAKE IT FOR A DRIVE. *AK

TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY . THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN ORWAS STARTING FROM A STOP, AND WHEN PRESSESING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE. THE CONTACT EXPLAINED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ,AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM. A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE WHILE AT THE DEALER, BUT THEY SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THEY ADJUSTED THE COMPUTER, BUT WHEN HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN IT WAS WORSE. THE CONTACT EXPLAINED THAT THIS TIME WHEN THE HESITATION OCCURRED HE WAS STARTING FROM A STOP AND, HE HAD TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, AND WAS ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND CORRECTLY. *AK
HAVE BROUGHT MY 2007 4 CYL TOYOTA CAMRY TO DEALERSHIP 4 SEPARATE TIMES DUE TO SEVERE HESITATION IN ACCELERATION SINCE BOUGHT NEW IN APRIL 2006 . THE PREVIOUS TIME THEY REFLASHED THE COMPUTER AS PER THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BUT THE HESITATION REMAINS UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS WHEN ENTERING HIGHWAY OR WHEN IN NEED OF QUICK AND EVEN ACCELERATION. THE PAST TIME THEY SUGGESTED I CONTACT TOYOTA USA HEADQUARTERS WHICH I PLAN TO DO IMMEDIATELY. OBVIOUSLY SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA SITE THERE APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING BASICALLY WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE TRANSMISSION. I WILL BE STARTING THE LEMON LAW OF NJ PROCESS UNLESS TOYOTA CAN QUICKLY RECTIFY THIS VERY UNSAFE DEFECT. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CAUSED HER TO CRASH INTO A WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
HISTORY: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN FLARING WHEN COLD AFTER PUTTING AROUND 400 MILES ON THE NEW CAR -- GEAR WOULDN'T "CATCH" AND WOULD SKIP GEARS; IN SHOP FOR TSB TO CORRECT PROBLEM, BUT DIDN'T CORRECT IT; IN SHOP AGAIN TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION SINCE CORPORATE CLAIMED THAT WOULD FOR SURE CORRECT FLARING PROBLEM; ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS RESULTING FROM NEW TRANNY INCLUDING STRANGE WHOOSHING NOISE ON DRIVER SIDE, JERKINESS WHEN CHANGING GEARS, AND HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING; BACK TO SHOP TO CORRECT; SHOP WAS ABLE TO REMOVE WHOOSHING NOISE, BUT JERKINESS REMAINED AND FLARING CONTINUED ALBEIT AT DIFFERENT TIMES THAN IT DID BEFORE. FAILURE AND CONSEQUENCES: AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT, TRIED TO MAKE LEFT-HAND TURN TO JOIN THE INTERSTATE MERGE LANE, BUT CAR WOULD NOT SUPPLY ENOUGH POWER DESPITE BEING IN DRIVE AND PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR APPROPRIATELY; BARELY MADE IT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION BEFORE HAVING TO PULL OVER TO SHOULDER TO STOP, PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, AND LET OTHER INTERSTATE TRAFFIC GET BY; THEORIZING THAT THE TRANSMISSION PROBABLY GOT STUCK IN WHATEVER GEAR THE CAR WAS IN AS I APPROACHED THE STOP LIGHT (3RD OR 2ND) AND THEN DIDN'T APPROPRIATELY DOWNSHIFT ITSELF TO GET UP TO POWER COMING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT THE STOP LIGHT TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION; BECAUSE THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE PAYING ATTENTION AND ROADS FREE OF ICE AND THEY SAW THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO GET UP TO SPEED, I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE REAR ENDED. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT FAILURE: BECAUSE IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES FOR BAD TRANSMISSION, NOT SURE WHAT THEY'LL DO TO CORRECT IT -- THAT IS PENDING. WILL LIKELY REQUEST BUY BACK DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS AND APPARENT INABILITY TO CORRECT UNDERLYING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *NM
BAD SMELL COMING FROM THE AC WHEN IS INITIALLY TURN ON AND 5 DAYS AGO FIND OUT THE RUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND BACK ON THE SAME SIDE ARE SOAKING WET. MECHANIC FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT ONE AC HOSE INSIDE THE CAR, UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD WAS TUGGED IN. THEN THE MANAGER STATED IT WAS THE OUTSIDE HOSE FROM THE AC. THEY STATE THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WATER DAMAGE. WANT COSTUMER TO PAY 1,480 TO CHANGE THE RUGS. ONLY 9,707 MILES, THEY ARE BEING DISHONEST TO THE CUSTOMERS. ALSO, SLOW ACCELERATION AND JUMPY RIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 31, 2006, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LACK OF ACCELERATION IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE HESITATED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL HESITATED TO PICK UP SPEED AND THEN SUDDENLY SPED OFF. THE DEALER FOUND NO FAILURES; HOWEVER, THEY LATER ASKED HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LACK ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED A TOTAL OF SEVEN TIMES AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY "UPDATED" THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,500.
6-SPEED AUTOMATIC EXHIBITS SHIFT FLARE. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL INTERMITTENTLY FEEL AS THOUGH IT HAS SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL DURING A 2-3 OR 3-4 UP SHIFT RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER TO THE DRIVE WHEELS FOLLOWED BY A BUMP INTO GEAR. AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE, ENGINE WILL REV 1-2,000 RPMS WITH NO INCREASE IN VEHICLE SPEED. *JB
TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHEN DOWNSHIFTING AND THEN OVER-COMPENSATES. VERY DANGEROUS AS I HAVE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED DURING HESITATION WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY A STALL IN TRAFFIC AND THE OVERCOMPENSATION CAUSES ONE TO NEARLY REAR-END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. *TR
THE CAMRY 4 CYLINDER HAS A MAJOR LAG IN RESPONSE TIME ASSOCIATED WITH LOW SPEEDS. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DELAY BETWEEN THE GAS PEDAL BEING PRESSED AND THE ENGINE RESPONDING. THE DEALER ATTRIBUTES THIS TO THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE SYSTEM WHICH TOYOTA HAS ALREADY RELEASED A SOFTWARE UPDATE REGARDING THE TCM MODULE. THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL. *JB

2007 CAMRY SE 4CYL. SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO HESITATION AND LACK OF ACCELERATION. WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC FROM A LOW SPEED OR FROM A DEAD STOP THE CAR BARELY RESPONDS TO THE ACCELERATOR. IT WILL SLOWLY ALLOW YOU TO PROCEED BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE FOR UP TO 3 OR 4 SECONDS, EVEN IF THE GAS PEDDLE IS FULLY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE NEARLY BEEN HIT A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS THAT WE'VE OWNED THIS CAR. OTHERWISE WE REALLY LIKE THIS CAR BUT BELIEVE IT TO BE UNSAFE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CHECKED IT OUT AND AGREES THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF IT BUT TO DATE THERE IS NO FIX. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
THE PROBLEM I'VE ENCOUNTERED CENTERS AROUND THE TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A HESITATION WHEN THE CAR SHIFTS GEARS, EITHER WHEN GETTING UP TO SPEED OR SLOWING DOWN TO STOP. ONE TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION-RELATED SOFTWARE THAT COULD BE FIXED VIA AN UPGRADE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. AS A RESULT, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER AND THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT AN ISSUE AT ALL. THIS OCCURRED AFTER HE "TEST-DROVE" IT FOR 3 MILES. *TR

I AM CONCERNED WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION. I HAD TWO TEST OUTCOME FAILED I HAVE STATED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE IN DEC 2006 THAT CAR USED OIL. I THINK THAT I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE NUMEROUS QUARTS OF OIL THAT HAVE BEEN WASTED DUE TO A FLAW IN THIS ENGINE TYPE. THE TIME TO REPAIR IS WAY TOO LONG. TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE 4 THE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION OF THESE VEHICLES. MAKE THEM TEST IT UNDER 32 DEGREES AND THE RPMS WILL ALMOST ALWAYS INCREASE AND DECREASE ABRUPTLY THOUGH GIVING GAS AT A STEADY PACE. IT'S HAPPENED EVERY YEAR EVERY WINTER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. I HAVE A 2007 CAMRY XLE WITH 13,000 MILES. FROM THE FIRST DAY I PURCHASED THE CAR, IT HAS HAD A SEVERE HESITATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE BOTH FROM A STOP AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (PASSING, MERGING INTO TRAFFIC). IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR (APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 25 MPH) BEFORE IT LOCKS INTO GEAR AND BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. I TOLD THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AT MY LAST OIL CHANGE. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND TEST DROVE AND WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE ACCELERATION DELAY WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER NEEDING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE ENGINE, AND THIS WAS A NORMAL DELAY AND THAT I WOULD "JUST HAVE TO GET USED TO IT". IF THIS SURGE FORWARD WERE TO OCCUR ON A CURVE OR BEND IN THE ROAD AT ANY VELOCITY LOSS OF CONTROL IS POSSIBLE. CONSEQUENTLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF AND WE DROVE THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL. WE SERVICED OUR CAMRY AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT AN UPDATE OF THE ECM IS NEEDED. THIS UPDATE WAS ISSUED BY TOYOTA DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THE TRANSMISSION IN THE 2007 CAMRY. SINCE THEN THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE COMMON THAN BEFORE AT LOW SPEEDS, BUT LESS FREQUENT AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL 2007 4 CYL VEHICLES WITH ECT, BUT NO OFFICIAL FIX HAS COME FROM TOYOTA. I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL. (THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THE EXPERIENCE I RELAYED TO HIM WAS NOT POSSIBLE.) STILL, THE CAR ACCELERATES BY ITSELF, MOST RECENTLY THREE DAYS AGO. I HAD IT SET AT 60 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL. IT WOULDN'T STAY AT 60. I HAD TO DECREASE THE CRUISE SPEED 3 OR 4 TIMES. I ROUTINELY HAVE TO MANUALLY REDUCE THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED BY BUMPING THE LEVER DOWN. I HAVE BECOME USED TO THIS MALFUNCTION. TOYOTA EMPLOYEES DENIED A DEFECT AND REFUSED TO REPAIR THE FAULTY PARTS. DURING THE FIRST 18 MONTHS, I TOOK MY CAR IN APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. 2.RAIN ENTERS ABOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. ODI ID NUMBER:10242104 HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BECAUSE OF THE SAME COMPLAINT ON THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. 3.THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE DURING THE FIRST 6 MONTHS I HAD THE CAR BECAUSE THE TIRES IN THAT POSITION DAMAGED QUICKLY FOR NO LEGITIMATE CAUSE. I HAD TO BUY A WHOLE SET OF TIRES BEFORE THE CAR HAD 18,000 MILES ON IT BECAUSE THEY WERE WEARING SO BADLY THAT THEY WERE UNSAFE. THIS COINCIDES WITH ODI ID NUMBER:10269039 CITING THE SAME PROBLEMS ON ANOTHER 07 SOLARA CONVERTIBLE. 4.THE SOFT TOP HAS UNRAVELED IN TWO PLACES ABOVE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AT THE SEAM WHERE IT IS SEWN TOGETHER. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE HAS VARIED FROM: NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, I MUST HAVE DAMAGED IT, AND IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. 5.THE ELECTRONIC SEAT STUCK. IT WAS LEFT IN A FORWARD POSITION (AS IF TO ALLOW ACCESS TO THE BACK SEAT). THE TECH SAID THE CAR DIDN'T HAVE POWER SEAT FUNCTIONS. I TOLD HIM I'D PAID FOR ONE ON MY ITEMIZED BILL AND I'D BEEN USING IT. UNREPAIRED, IT RESUMED WORKING BY ITSELF WEEKS LATER. *TR
EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED 3RD-4TH GEAR SHIFT FLARE WHEN COLD DAILY AFTER NEW CAR PUT INTO SERVICE. DEALER REPAIRED BY REPLACING TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY PER MFGR TSB. FAILURE: AFTER VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT, TRANSMISSION DEVELOPED NEW PROBLEM (AND ORIGINAL SHIFT FLARE PROBLEM PERSISTED). AFTER DECELERATING FROM 30 MPH TO 10 MPH AND COASTING, MADE RIGHT TURN AT INTERSECTION AND THEN DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR ABOUT 20% DOWN. POWERTRAIN DID NOT ENGAGE - VEHICLE WAS ESSENTIALLY IN NEUTRAL, AND BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. DISENGAGED CONDITION PERSISTED 2-3 SECONDS. THEN, A THUNK WAS HEARD, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED, AND THE VEHICLE HARSHLY JOLTED FORWARD. THIS DEFECT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE LOSS OF POWER FOR 2-3 SECONDS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IF IT OCCURS DURING LANE CHANGES, AVOIDANCE MANEUVERS, ETC. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT FAILURE: NO ACTION YET TAKEN. WILL RETURN TO DEALER FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. *NM
I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY SOLARA. IT HESITATES ALL THE TIME GOING AROUND CORNERS, HIGHWAY ACCELERATION IS TERRIBLE. I TALKED TO TOYOTA ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE NO HELP. THEY HAVE POSTED A BULLETIN TO KIND OF FIX THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE V6 SOLARA, AND THE CAMRY. THEY HAVE NOTHING FOR THE 4 CYL. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT THE CARS TRANSMISSION IS RESPONDING THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. I KEEP TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION BACK TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS, BUT THAT ONLY LASTS FOR A WEEK OR TWO THEN ITS BACK TO THE HESITATING. *JB
