AT 200 MILES NOTICED SLIPPAGE IN TRANSMISSION. REPORTED PROBLEM TO DEALER, BUT WAS IGNORED AND TOLD THAT THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM NEEDED TO GET ADJUSTED TO THE DRIVER. OVER A PERIOD OF TIME THE PROBLEM WORSENED IN SPIT OF COMPLAINTS TO THE SERVICE CENTER. ON 11/16/06 THE CAR WAS FINALLY TAKEN IN FOR REPAIRS (I WAS TOLD BY A CUSTOMER REP. THAT THERE WAS A VALVE THAT WAS DEFECTIVE AND TOYOTA WOULD REPLACE IT. THE CAR WAS EXPECTED ON 11/17/06, BUT DUE TO A PROBLEM IT WAS SET FOR DELIVERY ON 11/18/06 AT 9AM. WHEN I WENT TO PICKED UP THE CAR THE SERVICE DIRECTOR SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I WAS SHOCKED AND DISAPPOINTED AT THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT. TOYOTA ARROGANCE AND THE DEALERSHIPS INCOMPETENCE AND IMPOLITE RESPONSE TO MY INITIAL CONCERNS IS INEXCUSABLE. THE MATTER AT THIS TIME IS UNRESOLVED SINCE I NO LONGER WANT THIS CAR. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY, V-6, IN JULY 2006. IN NOVEMBER 2006, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. VERY OFTEN, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES, THE TACHOMETER JUMPS AROUND 1500 AND THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE FOR A SHORT TIME. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER, 4 OR 5 TIMES, AND HAVE GONE ON TEST DRIVES. WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENED, I WAS TOLD THAT'S THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION WORKS. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO SOFTWARE UPDATE OR TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE LAST PERSON I SPOKE WITH (LAST MONTH), TOLD ME IT IS A DESIGN FLAW, BUT TOYOTA HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE I DON'T ALWAYS GET THE ACCELERATION THAT I NEED. CONSUMER REPORTS REPORTED ON THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR DECEMBER 2007 ISSUE. THEY RECEIVED NEGATIVE INFORMATION FROM READERS ABOUT THE V-6 TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THIS TIME. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE WITH A 4 CYLINDER ENGINE AND 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION HAS A SIGNIFICANT HESITATION PROBLEM WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE SUCH AS GETTING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THE HESITATION IS SO SEVERE THAT I HAVE TO ADJUST MY DRIVING PATTERN TO AVOID HAVING AN ACCIDENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FROM A STOP OR DURING A TURN THERE WAS A HESITATION. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND THERE WERE NO REPAIR PERFORMED.
TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 WAS TAKING SEVERAL TIMES TO DEALER DUE TO HESITATION UPON ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT IS A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE 2007 CAMRY'S AND IT NOT FIXABLE. WE WENT TO ARBITRATION AND PETITION FOR EXCHANGE OR REPAIR WAS DENIED. MY WIFE AND I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DRIVING THIS CAR IN HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS AND NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE ENOUGH TO GET INTO INCOMING TRAFFIC. WE HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEMS AND ARE AFRAID OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
*******2ND COMPLAINT******WE BOUGHT A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN OCTOBER 06 AND HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING LOW OIL LEVELS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS, THE OIL LEVEL HAS GOTTEN SO LOW THAT THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAVE BEEN REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO TWO SEPARATE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY'VE ASKED ME TO RETURN THE CAR FOR OIL CHECKS AFTER 1000 MILES, WHICH SHOW A LOST OF OVER A QUART OF OIL. OUR TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TELLING US THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE CAMRY TO CONSUME OVER A QUART OF OIL AFTER 1000 TO 3,000 MILES AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM TO FIX. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH FIDELITY AND A SERVICE SPECIALIST BY THE NAME OF [XXX] AT TOYOTA OF ORLANDO BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND ABOUT GETTING FIDELITY TO GIVE THEM THE GO AHEAD TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. HE SAID THAT HE HAS CALLED FIDELITY A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET AUTHORIZATION BUT THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK WITH HIM BUT WILL CONTACT US WHEN HE GETS THE OK. IT HAS BEEN OVER TWO WEEKS SINCE HE SAID HE HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET THE GO AHEAD FROM FIDELITY, SO WE DECIDED TO CALL FIDELITY TO FIND OUT WHY THEY WERE DELAYING GIVING THE DEALERSHIP THE GO AHEAD TO FIX THE CAR, SEEING THAT WE HAVE THE PLATINUM PLACE. FIDELITY INFORMED US THAT NO ONE FROM TOYOTA OF ORLANDO HAS EVER CONTACTED THEM AT ANY TIME ABOUT OUR 2007 CAMRY. WE THEN SPOKE WITH A SERVICE MANAGER BY THE NAME OF [XXX] AND HE HAS BEEN GIVING ME THE SAME STORY ABOUT IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THE CAMRY TO CONSUME OVER A QUART OF OIL BETWEEN 1000 TO 3000 MILES, SO THERE IS NOTHING TO FIX. WE HAVE OWNED OVER 8 CARS AND HAS NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A NEWER MODEL CAR LIKE OURS.
AFTER 4985 MILES, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ACTIVATED. THERE WAS A SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRICAL WIRES. DEALER/SERVICE ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILURE OF THE "VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR," BUT LATER RE-DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILURE OF THE WIRING HARNESS. THE CAR WAS RETURNED 11/30/06. AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT REACTIVATED. I RETURNED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. ON 12/01/06, THE DEALER/SERVICE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND SAID A "VACUUM TUBE" DISCONNECTED. I PICKED UP CAR ON 12/01/06. AFTER A COUPLE HOURS OF DRIVING, THE "P" FOR PARK LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE I WAS IN DRIVE. (THE "P" AND "D" INDICATORS WERE BOTH ILLUMINATED AS I WAS DRIVING. ALSO, THE DOOR LOCKS ON ALL DOORS ENGAGED AND DISENGAGED UNCONTROLLABLY AND CONTINUOUSLY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO MANUALLY LOCK OR UNLOCK MY CAR DOORS USING THE "LOCK/UNLOCK" SWITCH ON THE DRIVE-SIDE DOOR SINCE IT WAS DEACTIVATED AS A RESULT OF THE MALFUNCTION. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER/SERVICE ON 12/02/06 FOR THIS PROBLEM. DEALER/SERVICE DIAGNOSES THE PROBLEM AS A ELECTRICAL SHORT DUE TO A COOLANT LEAK. I WAS PROMISED THAT THE CAR WOULD BE RETURNED 12/4/06 AFTERNOON. *NM
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE 4-CYLINDER PURCHASED 8/29/06. AFTER A HEW HUNDRED MILES, THE CAR BEGAN TO NOTICEABLY HESITATE WHILE PRESSING THE GAS. I NOTICED THIS WHILE LEAVING WORK ONE MORNING. I WAS CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, PRESSED THE GAS AND THE CAR HESITATED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS BEFORE REGAINING POWER ACCELERATE. EVER SINCE THIS INCIDENT, THIS CAR HAS CONTINUED TO HESITATE WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP AND THEN ACCELERATING TO CLEAR AN INTERSECTION. WHEN THE POWER IS NEEDED, IT'S NOT THERE AND I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS DO TO THIS LOSS IN POWER. WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP TO MAKE A TURN, AND THEN ACCELERATING AFTER THE TURN, THE CAR LAGS BEFORE GAINING SPEED AND YOU CAN HEAR THE TRANSMISSION HUNTING TO GET BACK INTO GEAR. WHEN DRIVING IN STOP AND GO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE CAR HESITATES WHEN THE GAS IS PRESSED AND THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD SHORTLY AFTER THAT. THIS MAKES THIS CAR SOMEWHAT DANGEROUS TO CONTROL IN TIGHT AREAS SUCH AS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 11/1/06 TO HAVE TSB TSB EG056-06 (SOFTWARE FLASH) PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE TO ASSIST WITH THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE SHIFT POINTS. AFTER THIS WAS COMPLETED, I REALLY DID NOT NOTICE A DIFFERENCE IN THE SHIFTING POINTS. THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN CROSSING THE SAME INTERSECTION I NORMALLY CROSS, THE CAR HESITATED SEVERELY AGAIN, IN MY OPINION SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN BEFORE THE TSB WAS IMPLEMENTED. IT IS DISCONCERTING TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN NOT PREDICT HOW YOUR CAR WILL PERFORM IN NORMAL DRIVING SITUATIONS, THEREFORE, I AM NERVOUS WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME. I HAVE NEVER OWNED OR DRIVEN A VEHICLE THAT HESITATED CONSISTENTLY LIKE THIS AND I HOPE THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT CAN BE FIXED IN AN EXPEDITED TIME FRAME AS THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *JB
SUSPENSION AND STEERING. I HAVE NOTICED WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 60+MPH, THAT ANY DIPS OR BUMPS CAUSES MY CARS TO SWAY SIDE TO SIDE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL JERKS IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/11/06 AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW WHY, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT DO A TRUE TEST DRIVE. MY CAR WAS CHECKED IN WITH 3544 MILES AND WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP SOMETHING TOLD ME TO CHECK MY MILEAGE AND IT SHOWED 3548 AND AT THAT TIME I WAS 1/2 A MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. SO, I KNOW THEY DID NOT TAKE MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, SO I WILL BE TAKING MY CAR BACK. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF THE GEAR WAS IN NEUTRAL WHEN THE HESITATION OCCURRED. ON 12/07/06, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER ON 12/07/06. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THE QUICK HESITATION COULD OCCUR WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, AND POSE A SEVERE SAFETY RISK.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA. ACCORDING TO THE CONTACT, THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THERE IS A SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME FOR THE SEAT BELTS. HE STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THAT SAFETY FEATURE. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER VERIFIED HIS VIN AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES HAVE THAT FEATURE. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY REPEATED THEIR PREVIOUS STATEMENT. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT INDICATED THE FEATURE WAS NOT ON THE VEHICLE AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 2,500 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT I PURCHASED NEW. SINCE NEW THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHEN THE CAR IS SLOWED TO ABOUT 20MPH AND WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE NOTHING HAPPENS FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT RESUMES. THE DEALER SAID THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THAT'S THE WAY A "DRIVE BY WIRE" TRANSMISSION WORKS. I CALLED THE TOYOTA HOTLINE AND GOT NOWHERE. I SEEMS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS COMPLAINT. THE INTERNET IS LOADED WITH DISSATISFIED OWNERS. I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD BE MADE TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I'VE BOUGHT AT LEAST TWENTY NEW TOYOTAS OVER THE YRS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. IT OCCURS ALL THE TIME. *TR

SINCE NEW THE ALIGNMENT IS OFF ON CAR. STEERING WHEEL AND WHEELS ARE NOT IN "SYNC". WHEN TURNING LEFT IT SEEMS TO FLEX THE BODY OF CAR. TWO SEPARATE DEALERS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT WITH POOR RESULTS. CAR NOW HAS 400 MILES AND SAME PROBLEM. *JB
I PURCHASED MY 07 COROLLA LE ON 9/19/07 FROM A DEALER IN PA. AFTER I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT DAY A WAS FEELING CAR SICK, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS. IT SEEMED THAT THINGS WERE MOVING IN MY PERIPHERAL VISION. ON FURTHER INSPECTION THERE ARE MAJOR RIPPLES IN THE WINDSHIELD; I JUST SO HAPPENED TO GET A ROCK CHIP ON FRIDAY THE 13TH AND DEALER SUGGESTED I GET IT REPAIRED. I ASK THE DEALER ABOUT THE RIPPLES THEY SEEMED DUMB FOUNDED AND DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. SO I TOOK THERE ADVISE AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THEIR RECOMMENDED FACILITY. I THEN ASKED THAT TECH. AND HIS SUPERVISOR THE SAME QUESTION AND THEY BOTH SAID THERE WAS A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD AND TO HAVE IT REPLACED ASAP. I JUST LEFT THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE BACK WINDOW SEALS AND TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND AN OIL CHANGE WHEN 5 MINUTES LATER I RETURNED WITH THE VERDICT FROM THE GLASS PLACE. THEY INSPECTED THE WINDSHIELD AND DECIDE TO REPLACE IT. I GOT THE NEW ONE AND THIS ONE ALSO HAS A SLIGHT RIPPLE NOT AS BAD AS THE FIRST BUT STILL THERE AND NOTICEABLE TO ME AND THE SERVICE MANAGER AND ASSISTANT MANAGER. THEY WENT AND LOOKED AT THE OTHERS ON THE LOT AND STATED THAT THEY ARE ALL LIKE THAT. I DIDN'T CARE THEY WERE ALL DEFECTIVE I WANTED MINE REPAIRED CORRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS UP TO TOYOTA TO DECIDE THE RESULT. UPON FILING A COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA EXPERIENCE CENTER THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WILL NOT BE REPLACED AGAIN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT THAT ALL THE VEHICLES ON THE LOT ARE THE SAME WAY. I STATED THAT I CAN'T HELP THAT ALL YOUR WINDSHIELDS ON THE LOT ARE DEFECTIVE SHE KEPT STATING THAT IT WASN'T A DEFECT. I TOLD HER IF THEY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS DEFECTIVE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. I FOUND SOME OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS OF TOYOTA VEHICLES LEXUS, MY COROLLA TACOMA AND SEDONA AND A FEW OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE SPOKEN TO ALSO WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA CONTINUES TO GIVE YOU DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS WITH RIPPLES AND TELL YOU THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. *NM
IT APPEARS THAT DEFECTIVE MATERIALS WERE USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE FRONT DASH OF MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE DASH IS LITERALLY MELTING. THE SURFACE HAS BECOME TACKY, SOFT AND EASILY DAMAGED BY TOUCH. THIS ISSUE IS NOW BEING DESCRIBED BY TOYOTA CUSTOMERS AS ??MELTING DASH??. THIS DETERIORATION OF THE DASH HAS ALSO CREATED AN ABNORMAL SHEEN OR GLARE WHEN IN SUNLIGHT AS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPORTED BY OTHERS. IF CHEMICAL CHANGES ARE IN FACT OCCURRING DURING THIS ABNORMAL DETERIORATION PROCESS I AM CONCERNED THAT "OFF GASING" OF HARMFUL OR TOXIC CHEMICALS MAY BE INTRODUCED IN THE CONFINED SPACE OF THE OCCUPIED VEHICLE. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH DIRECT SUNLIGHT AND HOT TEMPERATURES AND IS BEING REPORTED FROM VARIOUS SOUTHERN STATES INCLUDING FLORIDA & HAWAII. TOYOTA HAS STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *TR
SPEED CONTROL IS UNSTABLE. WHEN THE SPEED CONTROL IS ON AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE SLIGHTEST GRADE I.E. FROM AN OVERPASS, CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT ONE OR TWO GEARS. THEN THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE BEYOND THE SETSPEED AND THEN UPSHIFT. THE CAR WILL THEN BE UNABLE TO MAINTAIN SPEED AGAIN, DOWNSHIFT ONE OR 2 GEARS, AND ONCE AGAIN ACCELERATE BEYOND THE SET SPEED, REPEATING OVER AND OVER AND WORSENING EACH CYCLE. DRIVING THE SAME ROAD WITH THE SPEED CONTROL OFF IS RELATIVELY NORMAL. THIS CAR ALSO HAS A MODERATE HESITATION PROBLEM. PULLING OUT FROM A SIDE STREET, THE CAR BARELY ACCELERATES UNTIL RPMS REACH 2200, THEN ACCELERATES NORMALLY. THIS HAS BEEN SINCE NEW. COASTING DOWN A LONG GRADE WITH SPEED CONTROL OFF, THE CAR WILL SURGE. RETURNED TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN MY NEW 2007 CAMRY WHEN THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. GLASS POURED INTO THE CAR LEAVING A SIZEABLE HOLE. WE DID NOT HEAR OR SEE ANYTHING HIT THE ROOF BEFORE THE EXPLOSION. THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE ROOF FOR $1080. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR TWO WEEKS AND IT SEEMS TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE COST. BECAUSE IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM, THE DEALER PROVIDED A PHONE NUMBER FOR THE TOYOTA EXPERIENCE CENTER FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY GAVE ME A REFERENCE NUMBER BUT TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE DEALER. *NM

FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED THE CAR I NOTICED THAT WHEN I FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL OR JUST STEPPED ON IT TO PASS A CAR, THERE WOULD BE A HESITATION OF 4-5 SECONDS BEFORE IT WOULD WIND UP AND THEN GO. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT A NEW PROGRAM NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED ON THE TRANSMISSION. THEY DID IT BUT IT IS STILL THE SAME. ON 10-25-08 I WENT TO THE DEALER TO AGAIN COMPLAIN AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM, YET ATTRIBUTED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION TO THE FLOOR MAT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTERWARDS, THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHO CLAIMED MANY TIMES THAT IT WAS NORMAL, I MUST DRIVE IT MORE FOR THE CAR TO LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO HESITATES AS IF IT WILL STALL, BUT DRAMATICALLY DECELERATES INSTEAD. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FIVE TIMES AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY IMPROPER CALIBRATION. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS FAILURE. SOME DEALERS HAVE REFUSED TO REPAIR HER VEHICLE AND STATED THAT IT WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.
I PURCHASED A 2007 CAMRY LE IN LATE APRIL. FROM THE DAY I TOOK DELIVERY, THERE APPEARED TO BE A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION; THERE WERE DEAD SPOTS. THAT LED TO LONG 3 TO 5 SECONDS LAG TIMES BEFORE THE CAR WOULD RESPOND WHEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO OVERDRIVE WHEN A STEADY ACCELERATION WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY; I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD ALLOW A 'BREAK-IN' PERIOD TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM RESOLVED ITSELF. THE MOMENT THAT I BEGAN TO DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM, I WAS STOPPED AND ASKED IF IT WAS A 2007 CAMRY LE. AN AFFIRMATIVE RESPONSE BROUGHT AN ANSWER THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO; IT HAD BEEN REPORTED TO TOYOTA. APPARENTLY TO DEFLECT WHAT MUST HAVE LOOKED LIKE RISING ANGER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICE MANGER'S DAUGHTER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. A CALL TO TOYOTA OF AMERICA BROUGHT A RESPONSE THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS IT WAS DESIGNED (SO, I GUESS IT WAS DESIGNED TO STALL WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN, CHANGING LANES ON THE INTERSTATE, TRYING TO GO FORWARD, ETC). MY ANGER IS 1) THAT THEY SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE CAR, 2) THAT THEY KNOW IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT BUT CHOOSE NOT TO FIX THE PROBLEM (I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE STILL 'THINKING' ABOUT A SOLUTION), AND 3) THAT I WASN'T NOTIFIED OF THIS RATHER MAJOR DEFECT (AND WHY IS TOYOTA ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO SELL THESE CARS WITHOUT THE CAVEAT THAT THERE IS A FACTORY DEFECT THAT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND TOYOTA HAS NO PLANS TO PROVIDE A REPAIR)? I HAVE LOOKED AT OVER A DOZEN WEB SIGHTS WHERE MEMBERS HAVE COMPLAINED, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN A MENTION OF THE REASON FOR THE PROBLEM OR A SOLUTION OF WHAT TO DO. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED BY THIS ERRATIC BEHAVIOR. *JB

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO BRAKE PRESSURE AND CONTINUED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION, AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO A STOP. A BYSTANDER ALERTED THE CONTACT THAT SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE CONTACT QUICKLY EXITED THE VEHICLE, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ALERTED, BUT THE TIRE HAD ALREADY BURNED ITSELF OUT UPON THEIR ARRIVAL. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER TO AWAIT INSPECTION.
I BOUGHT A 2007 CAMRY (6 CYLINDER) WITH 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION IN SEPT. 2006. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEARS WHEN IT IS COLD. IT WORKS NORMALLY AFTER IT HAS WARMED UP, ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE SOMEWHAT INDECISIVE, ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCELERATING. IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR NORMAL SERVICE THREE TIMES. IT HAS 15,300 MILES ON IT NOW. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WANTS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER BUT DOES NOT SEEM VERY CONFIDENT THE REPROGRAMMING WILL HELP. I WILL TRY THIS BEFORE I TRADE IT FOR A NEW HONDA ACCORD. SO FAR NO SITUATIONS INVOLVING SAFETY HAVE OCCURRED. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2007 CAMRY LE 4 CYLINDER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN 9/06. THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS CAR HAS BEEN DISAPPOINTING. ON THE 1ST ROAD TRIP, I NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE. THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED 2 GEARS ON INCLINES AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV AT APP. 5000 RPMS. AT THE TOP OF THE INCLINE, THE CAR'S SPEED WOULD INCREASE 5-10 MILES PER HOUR CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO DISCONNECT THE CRUISE. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THIS CAR AND HE WAS TOLD THIS WAS EXPECTED AND WAS DESIGNED TO DO THIS. TO CORRECT, THE PROBLEM WE COULD NOT USE THE CRUISE WHEN DRIVING UP INCLINES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. AFTER SEVERAL ROAD TRIPS AND NOTICING THE GAS MILEAGE WAS THE SAME ON THE HIGHWAY AS IN THE CITY, WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE "COMPUTER COULD NOT SEE HILLS COMING AND TO COMPENSATE THIS PROBLEM, WE WOULD NEED TO OVERRIDE THE CRUISE ON HILLS BY USING THE ACCELERATOR AND INCREASING OUR SPEED JUST SLIGHTLY." AT THIS VISIT WE ALSO DISCUSSED A PROBLEM WITH HESITATION UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. WE WERE TOLD THAT A NEW COMPUTER CHIP MAY FIX THAT PROBLEM AND THE CHIP WAS REPLACED. NOW THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT--THE CAR WILL HESITATED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE,OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP-- THE PROBLEM WENT FROM ONLY SLUGGISH ACCELERATION FROM A STOP TO BEING INTERMITTENT AT ANY TIME. MY HUSBAND THEN ASKED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL OFFICE FOR TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM WITH THEM, HE WAS TOLD THE NUMBER COULD NOT BE GIVEN OUT TO CONSUMERS. HE THEN ASKED IF THE OFFICE COULD BE CONTACTED BY THE DEALER REQUESTING THE OFFICE TO CONTACT MY HUSBAND. HE WAS TOLD THAT COULD NOT HAPPEN EITHER. TOYOTA HAS BEEN TOTALLY UNCOOPERATIVE. IN ONE HOUR'S TIME, DECELERATED AND ACCELERATED WITH THE CRUISE 50 TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH 4 CYLINDER AND IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED TO US WHEN LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE. *JB
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA WITH WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE CONCERNING THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LIGHTS CAST A DISTINCTIVE SHADOW AND LINE WITH DARKNESS AT TOP AND LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM. AND DEPENDING ON THE CONTOUR OF THE ROAD AT TIMES IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE AND PRESENTS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DRIVING HAZARD. AMD OFTEN ON COMING TRAFFIC THINK I HAVE MY HIGH BEAMS ON AND THEY PUT THEIR HIGH BEAMS ON BLINDING ME TO ROAD AHEAD. AFTER ARBITRATION WITH A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE THE SITUATION HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED TO MY SATISFACTION. *NM
CAR HESITATES AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ABRUPTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-65 MPH). HESITATION IS PARTICULARITY ALARMING. IF I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY FROM A STOP, THIS CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND. DEALER STATES THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THESE PROBLEMS, YET THE HESITATION ON THE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON WEB SITES (EDMUNDS ETC.). DEALER ALSO TRIED TO PASS OFF THIS DEFECT AS "THIS IS A DRIVE BY WIRE CAR AND YOU MAY NOT BE USED TO HOW THEY OPERATE". I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 35 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD CARS OPERATE IN THIS MANNER. IF DRIVE BY WIRE IS THE PROBLEM, THEN THIS TECHNOLOGY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON CARS. *JB

THE DEALER'S CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE VEHICLE IS COMPUTERIZED AND IT IS TRYING TO GET USED TO THE CONTACT'S DRIVING HABITS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7878 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7678. THE ENGINE SIZE AND POWER TRAIN INFORMATION WERE UNAVAILABLE.

CLICKING, CLUNKING IN FELT IN STEERING WHEEL, ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE AT LOW SPEEDS, BUT CAN BE FELT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ALSO. DEALER LOOKED AT PROBLEM AND STATED THEY REPACKED BEARINGS IN STEERING SHAFT. DIDN'T MAKE IT OUT OF THE DEALERS LOT AND PROBLEM STILL THERE. WHEN TAKEN BACK TO SERVICE DESK, DEALER STATED THAT I NEEDED TO WORK THE GREASE IN AND THAT IT SHOULD GO AWAY IN A FEW DAYS, IF NOT TO CALL THEM BACK TO HAVE STEERING KNUCKLE REPLACED. PROBLEM STILL THERE AFTER 300+ MILES OF DRIVING SINCE HAVING BEARINGS REPACKED. *JB
