TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V741000 (AIR BAGS) AND INQUIRED OF MANUFACTURER AND DEALER RESPOSNIBILITY IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN AIR BAG RECALL AT AN UNKNOWN DEALER HOWEVER, HE WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE REPAIRS AS THE DEALER LEFT ADHESIVE GLUE VISIBLE ON THE DASHBOARD AND PANELING THAT WAS REMOVED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO A SUPERVISOR AT TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE WHOM INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHCILE TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE CURRENT RECALL REMEDY HOWEVER IT WAS NOT GUARANTEED THAT TOYOTA WOULD BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD AS IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THERE WAS A RECALL ABOUT THE FRAMES ON TUNDRAS RUSTING. MY WAS NOT REPLACED, IT WAS JUST UNDERCOATED. THE FRAME IS RUSTING UNDER THE COATING AND THE COATING IS FALLING OFF. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO MAKE A COMPLAINT ALSO CALLED TOYOTA. BOTH WOULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THE FRAME FAILED BUT TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA, WITCH I DID. TOYOTA TOLD ME THE TIME HAD RUN OUT ON THAT RECALL. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY AND SHOULD HAVE HAD A FRAME REPLACMENT.
ON JANUARY 10 2020 MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA BROKE DOWN. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IT WAS AROUND 4:45PM WHEN I HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM MY DRIVERS BACK TIRE, I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED OUT UNDERNEATH AND MY TIRES DID NOT SEE ANYTHING GOT BACK IN VEHICLE AND BACKED IT UP TO A SIDE STREET IT MADE THE CLUNKING NOISE. I CALLED MY HUSBAND HE CAME OUT AND CHECKED THE TRUCK OUT TOO COULDN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ( WE HAVE TOWING SERVICE PLUS WE BOUGHT A EXTENDED WARRANTY) SINCE IT WAS PASS 5 PM THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T LOOK AT THE TRUCK TILL THE NEXT DAY. WHEN THEY GAVE ME A CALL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY SWAY BAR BROKE AND THE CLUNKING NOISE WAS MY BRAKE DRUM AND PAD IT WAS SO RUSTED IT BUSTED IN PIECES. HE ALSO SAID THATS NOT THE REAL CONCERN & ISSUE HE TOLD ME THAT MY WHOLE FRAME WAS VERY RUSTED & CORROSION HE STATED THAT MY TRUCK WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER WORK I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS IN COMPLETE SHOCK THE FRAME WAS SO BAD SOME PARTS OF IT YOU COULD PUT YOUR FINGER RIGHT THROUGH IT. LATER WE DID SOME RESEARCH AND READ ABOUT TOYOTA TUNDRA RECALL ON FRAMES. WE ALSO WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD THE TRUCK TO US. THEY WERE NO HELP. WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP. I'M THE MAIN DRIVER AND I LOVE THIS TRUCK PAID GOOD MONEY AND STILL PAYING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS TRUCK MISSED THE RECALL IN THE PASS. THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE BODY AND INTERIOR. IT ONLY HAD 91,000 WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. DO WE FALL UNDER THE RECALL? PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO. THANK YOU.
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RUSTING FRAME. *LD IN 2015 CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SULLIVAN BROTHERS TOYOTA (KINGSTON, MA) AND THE FRAME WAS SPRAYED WITH RUST INHIBITOR. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER IN DECEMBER 2019 TO HAVE FRAME INSPECTED. CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS SOME SURFACE RUST THAT WAS NO THREAT TO VEHICLE. ON 01/06/2020 A BRAKE LINE BROKE AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THE FRAME WAS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE GAS TANK WAS WIRED TO THE FRAME. CONSUMER SAYS THAT HE WAS NOT INFORMED WHEN THIS TOOK PLACE. CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED, BUT DEALER REFERRED HIM TO THE MANUFACTURER. MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. *DL
FRONT BALL JOINT BROKE IN HALF WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA PURCHASED NEW FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CENTRAL PA; ONE OWNER. CUSTOMER PURCHASED DEALER OFFERED UNDERCOATING DUE TO KNOWN CLIMATE CONDITIONS OF CENTRAL PA IN ORDER TO PREVENT UNDERCARRIAGE CORROSION. SAME DEALERSHIP (UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP) CARRIED OUT CORROSION INSPECTION CAMPAIGN IN 2015; DEALER CONCLUSION-APPLY ADDITIONAL CORROSION-RESISTANT COMPOUND TO FRAME (DID THEY ACTUALLY APPLY ANYTHING?). PA INSPECTION AT INDEPENDENT GARAGE IN 2019 FAILED FOR FRAME CORROSION (BUT NO PERFORATIONS?). VEHICLE TAKEN TO PLACE OF PURCHASE TO REPEAT INSPECTION; DEALERSHIP ALSO FAILED VEHICLE FOR PA INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME CORROSION; SUGGESTED SENDING IT TO ADDITIONAL TOYOTA DEALERS FOR ADDITIONAL INSPECTIONS AND TO CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE. (NOTE-FAILED AREAS AND OTHER INSPECTION AREAS ARE NOW COMPLETELY DEVOID OF CORROSION PROTECTION DUE TO REMOVAL BY INSPECTION MECHANICS). CALLED TOYOTA CORP., THEY CAN'T/WON'T HELP. SUPERVISOR TO CALL BACK. SO FAR, TOYOTA WILL NOT RECTIFY THE ISSUE. THERE ARE 100 YEAR OLD FORD MODEL T'S ON THE ROAD WITH FRAMES THAT ARE PERFECTLY HEALTHY IN PA, BUT A PIECE OF JUNK MADE IN THE USA (WHICH HAS BEEN LESS THAN USELESS FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS), FOREIGN OWNED CORP.,13 YEAR TOYOTA IS SCRAP!!! OBSOLESCENCE AND SECOND CLASS CITIZENSHIP CONSUMER PRODUCTS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL AND MEANT ONLY FOR THE BILLIONAIRE CLASS TO EXPERIENCE! FAILURE AT 106,000 MILES.
2006 TUNDRA WITH ~150K MILES HAS DEVELOPED A BROKEN FRAME. BREAK IS IN THE RIGHT FRAME RAIL STARTING JUST BEHIND THE SWAY BAR AND EXTENDS ROUGHLY 10" BACK ALMOST TO THE SWAY BAR MOUNT. THIS VEHICLE WAS SERVICED WITH A FRAME UNDERCOATING IN A 'LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN' IN JULY 1015.*DT*JB
I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO MILLER TOYOTA DEALER AT 1331 N. EUCLID ST, ANAHEIM, CA 92801 ON NOV-26, 2019. AND THEY STATED THAT PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE, AND THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THEY HAVE THE PART, WOULD TAKE COUPLE DAYS. SINCE, I SEVERAL TIMES, TEXTED, EMAILS AND LEFT VOICE MAILS FOR WHEN THEY HAVE PART, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM SINCE.
THE FRAME ON MY O6 TUNDRA IS DETERIORATED BADLY TIRE SHOP WOULDN'T PERFORM WORK REQUESTED. MY QUESTION IS YOU SEND RECALLS FOR AIRBAGS ETC. FOR THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE ON THE ROADS SAFETY. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AS THEY WERE WITH MANY OTHER MODELS. THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE ON THE ROAD.
MY 2006 TUNDRA HAS A HOLE IN THE FRAME DUE TO RUSTING OUT WHICH HAS MADE THE PASSENGER SIDE SWAY BAR TO COME DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. TOYOTA ADVISED ME THIS MODEL YEAR IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL FOR THE KNOWN FRAME RUST ISSUE WITH TOYOTA TRUCKS AND REFUSES TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND MADE DRIVING DIFFICULT. UPON TAKING MY 2006 TUNDRA TO THE NEAREST DEALER TO GET IT FIXED THEY INFORMED ME THE FRAME HAD A HOLE IN IT AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICEABLE. IT APPEARS MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR MULTIPLE MODELS WERE ISSUED BUT NOT 2005 AND 2006. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA SHOULD LOOK AT AND EXTEND THE RECALL TO THESE VEHICLES.
INFORMED THAT FRAME HAS DEVELOPED RUST ISSUES. VEHICLE WAS COATED BY DEALER IN 2014 WITH CORROSION RESISTANT COMPOUND FOLLOWING A LETTER INDICATING TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE.TODAY MY MECHANIC FOLLOWING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SHOWED ME THE RUSTING FRAME.10/24/19. I TOOK VEHICLE TO THOMPSON TOYOTA SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS YEARS MODEL. I CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS INFORMED IT'S NOT COVERED. IT IS UPSETTING THAT PREVIOUS YEARS WERE COVERED AND SEQUOIA MODELS ARE COVERED. .
VISIBLE CRACK IN FRAME ON THE "C" WHERE IT MEETS THE FRONT AXLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION ON THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DISCOVERED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF RUST, OVER TIME, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WOULD BE UNABLE TO BE PLACED ON A LIFT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT A CORROSION SEALANT WAS PLACED ON THE FRAME; HOWEVER, THE CORROSION OVERPOWERED THE SEALANT APPLICATION. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
RUSTED FRAME
TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING SYSTEM. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN LEAVING A STORE PARKING LOT. WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BY USING EMERGENCY BRAKE. NOTICED A RUPTURED SOLID BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVERS SIDE RUNNING TOWARDS REAR OF VEHICLE. ALL BRAKE FLUID WAS GONE FROM MASTER CYLINDER WHEN CHECKED. ALSO NOTED A LOT OF CORROSION ON FRAME, BRAKE LINES, AND OTHER PARTS OF UNDERCARRIAGE. FRAME WAS PREVIOUSLY COATED AS PART OF RECALL SEVERAL YEARS AGO. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN WINSTON-SALEM, NC. HAD TO HAVE TWO SOLID BRAKE LINES REPLACED ALONG WITH REAR BRAKE SHOES AND DRUMS. COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED IF THIS HAPPENED AT SPEED OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
MY TRUCK WAS RECALLED FOR RUST UNDERNEATH AND WAS SPRAYED WITH UNDER COATING AT THAT TIME. THERE IS A LOT OF RUST POPPING THROUGH WHERE THE BOLTS HOLD THE BED TO THE FRAME. RUST IS COMING THROUGH SEVERAL PLACES INCLUDING THE BED FRAME BOLTS NEXT TO THE CAB. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT TOYOTA CAN DO, SINCE THIS STARTED WITH A RECALL? MY 2006 TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 4.7L LIMITED 4WD HAS A SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE CUT ON THE FRAME DUE TO RUST. THE CUT STARTS ON THE FRAME FROM THE BRACKET HOLDING THE SWAY BAR LINK BACK TO THE CROSSMEMBER FRAME. THIS RUST IS SPREADING AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. THIS VEHICLE IS MY DAILY COMMUTE VEHICLE AND I LIVE IN A NORTHERN REGION OF THE US WHERE SALT IS USED ON ROADS DURING THE WINTER. THE VEHICLE HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN FROM THE NORTHERN REGION. PLEASE CONTACT ME REGARDING A FRAME RECALL OR REPLACEMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS THIS IS A VERY CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.
EXCESSIVE FRAME CORROSION ON MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. LARGE PIECES OF METAL FLAKE OFF FROM RUST ON THE ENTIRETY OF THE FRAME.
PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED AND WAS RECENTLY INSPECTED BY TOYOTA WHICH FOUND CORROSION AND RUST HOLES IN BOTH CROSS MEMBERS HOLDING THE GAS TANK AND SPARE TIRE. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE AND I WAS TOLD TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE. RECALLS ARE FOR THE 2000-2003 TUNDRA LEAVING THE 2004-2006 OWNERS OUT OF LUCK. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THESE MODEL YEARS WERE LEFT OUT GIVEN IT'S THE SAME FRAME AND ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. PLEASE HELP THESE OWNERS.
TAKATA RECALL WHILE TRUCK WAS AT DEALERSHIP HAVING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM TROUBLESHOT WAS INFORMED BY DEALERSHIP ABOUT AIR BAG RECALL AND THAT RECALL WOULD BE DONE AT SAME TIME. PASSENGER AIR WAS REPLACED AT THIS TIME. AFTER TRUCK SAT A DEALERSHIP FOR EXTENDED PERIOD EVENTUALLY GOT TRUCK BACK. EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS TO A YEAR STARTED NOTICING AN ODD APPEARANCE ON THE PASSENGER AIR BAG COVER. THIS AREA BEGAN HAVING A STICKY FEELING TO IT. PLACED A PAPER NAPKIN ON THE AIR BAG COVER AND HAD PART OF THE NAPKIN STICK TO THE COVER. DURING ONE OF THE RECENT HEAT SPELLS WITH THE INTERIOR OF THE TRUCK REACHING A HIGH TEMPERATURE DISCOVERED THAT THE AIR BAG COVER HAS BEEN SPRAY PAINTED TO MATCH INTERIOR COLOR OF TRUCK. THIS MAKES THAT AREA OF THE DASH LOOK DISGUSTING PLUS YOU CAN NO LONGER LAY AN OBJECT THERE WITHOUT IT GETTING STUCK TO THE DASH. AM ABLE TO PUSH PAINT AND SEE THAT ORIGINAL COLOR OF AIR BAG COVER IS BLACK.
A FEW YEARS BACK HAD TAKEN THE TRUCK IN FOR THE FRAME RECALL. UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK WAS QUITE RUSTY AND WAS HOPING FOR A NEW FRAME TO BE PUT ON. INSTEAD, WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THAT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN FOR MY TRUCK. INSTEAD, THE FRAME WAS TO BE "UNDERCOATED" TO PROTECT THE TRUCK FROM FURTHER RUST. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE CURRENT PROCEDURE FROM TOYOTA, AT THAT TIME, WAS TO ONLY UNDERCOAT THE CAB OF THE TRUCK AND NOT THE ENTIRE FRAME. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE UNDERCOATING ENTIRE FRAME WHICH THEY DID DO. AFTER GETTING TRUCK BACK FROM DEALERSHIP LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW THAT ENTIRE FRAME WAS SPRAYED WITH SOME FORM OF BLACK MATERIAL. NOW THIS UNDERCOATING IS PEELING OFF AND THE FRAME IS RUSTING AGAIN.
THE FRAME WAS SPRAYED A FEW YEARS BACK FOR A RUST RECALL. THE SPRAY DID NOT HELP AND AFTER BRINGING MY TRUCK TO THE MECHANIC FOR MAINTENANCE, IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE RUST HAS NOW CAUSED HOLES IN THE FRAME AND IT IS BEGINNING TO SEPARATE AT THE WELD. THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALSO ABOUT TO POP.
EXCESSIVE FRAME ROT ON MY 2006 TUNDRA. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CORROSION COATING APPLIED BUT IT DIDN'T STOP THE FRAME FROM ROTTING PREMATURELY. TWO YEARS LATER ALL THE COATING HAS PEELED OFF AND THE RUST HAS GOTTEN WAY WORSE. THE SAME YEAR SEQUOIAS HAVE THE SAME FRAME AND THEY WERE RECALLED. WHY HASN'T THE 2003-2006 TUNDRAS BEEN INCLUDED? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AN MUST BE RESOLVED.
WE HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED IN JUNE 2019 AFTER JUST DOING NEW BREAK LINES WHICH RUSTED, WE HAD ALSO JUST PUT NEW TIRES ON IT. TRUCK PASSED INSPECTION JUNE 2019. TRUCK DEVELOPED POWER STEERING LEAK IN JULY. WHILE LOOKING INTO THE LEAK WE NOTICED THE FRAME RUSTED AND THE ANTI SWAY BAR IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF THE FRAME. CAN NOT TRADE THIS IN OR SELL IT NOW. FRAME ROT ON MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF BROOKFIELD (20655 W. CAPITAL DR, BROOKFIELD, WI) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
I NOTICED THE LOW TIRE LIGHT WAS BLINKING, AND CHECKED ALL THE TIRES FOR PRESSURE, AND THEY WERE FINE, THEN I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE ROUND BAR THAT IS PART OF THE STEERING MECHANISM, HAD ACTUALLY PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE FRAME DUE TO RUST, THIS TRUCK FRAME WAS SUPPOSEDLY TREATED IN 2014, AND OBVIOUSLY DID LITTLE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM, OF FRAME ROT. TOYOTA IS REPLACING FRAMES ON THE MAJORITY OF TUNDRA'S AND TACOMA'S, BUT NOT MY SPECIFIC YEAR. IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS 2006 TUNDRA'S HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTING AWAY TOO QUICKLY
THIS VEHICLE HAD THE FRAME RECALL DONE BY A LOCAL DEALER - TOYOTA OF NASHUA IN NASHUA, NH - AND THE DEALER PERFORMED THE UNDERCOATING REMEDY POORLY, AND NOT PER THE GUIDELINES OF THE RECALL. WITHIN A YEAR THE UNDERCOATING STARTED FLAKING OFF, AND I NOW HAVE A 2-3" HOLE IN THE FRAME, CAUSED BY RUST. RECALL UNDERCOATING WAS DONE IN 2014. DEALER IS TELLING ME THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO, TOYOTA IS TELLING ME THE SAME THING. THEY'RE LETTING ME DEAL WITH MY OWN RUSTED FRAME THAT THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR.
CROSS MEMBER OF THE FRAME HAS BROKEN DUE TO RUST

JUST HAD TRUCK INSPECTION DONE BY MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THERE IS A PROBLEM STARTING WITH THE FRAME. HE SAID CONTACT TOYOTA THAT THERE WAS A FRAME RECALL. SO I DID THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN CHARGE AND GOT A CALL BACK. WAS TOLD MY TRUCK WAS SPRAYED WITH THE ANTI CORROSION SPRAY IN 2014. BUT APPARENTLY IT DIDN'T WORK. WHY DID TOYOTA SKIP CERTAIN YEARS OF THE TUNDRA? TOYOTA DID A RECALL ON THE SAME YEAR SEQUOIA AS MY TUNDRA. THEY HAVE THE SAME FRAME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND AND I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE
TOYOTA FRAME RUST: I WAS INFORMED BY MY LOCAL MECHANIC TODAY THAT MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA WILL NOT PASS VIRGINIA'S YEARLY SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF HOLE IN THE FRAME AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. MY TRUCK PARTICIPATED IN TOYOTA'S LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN D0D IN 2014 AND A RUST RESISTANT COATING WAS APPLIED TO COMBAT A KNOWN CORROSION ISSUE WITH THEIR TRUCK FRAMES. I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS INSPECTED, FOUND TO BE CLEAN, AND THE COATING APPLIED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO FOR YOU". I HAVE FOUND EXISTING LAWSUITS ADDRESSING THIS EXACT ISSUE ON OTHER TOYOTA MODELS INCLUDING 2007 AND 2008 TUNDRAS. THE SETTLEMENT IN THESE CASES INVOLVE COMPLETE FRAME REPLACEMENT. IT IS OBVIOUS TO ME THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, BUT CHOOSING TO DO NOTHING.

MY 2006 TUNDRA IS LIKE NEW IN ALL RESPECTS BUT ONE; ALL TOYOTA RECOMMENDED ROUTINE AND PERIODIC MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY COPELAND TOYOTA FOR 13 YEARS; FRAME HAS FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. UPON FRAME RECALL FOR CORROSION IN 2014, COPELAND INDICATED FRAME WAS "NOT THAT BAD" AND SAID THEY WOULD JUST APPLY CORROSION PROTECTION COATING INSTEAD OF REPLACING FRAME. I TRUSTED AND ACCEPTED THEIR ADVICE. SINCE THEN, TOYOTA FORUMS INDICATE SPRAY ON COATING EXACERBATES CORROSION PROBLEM. COPELAND REPLACED POWER STEERING UNIT LAST YEAR; WHEN I LOOKED UNDER TRUCK TO SEE NEW UNIT, WAS SHOCKED AT CONDITION OF FRAME. NEXT ROUTINE SERVICE APPOINTMENT I ASKED COPELAND FOR THEIR OPINION ON FRAME CORROSION AND THEY TOLD ME FRAME HAS FAILED. POOR CONDITION OF FRAME WAS OBVIOUS; STABILIZER BAR HAD PULLED OUT OF FRAME. HOW MUCH MORE WORK WOULD THEY HAVE PERFORMED AND CHARGED ME FOR IF I HAD NOT BROUGHT SUBJECT UP?? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! COPELAND SENT ME TO TOYOTA .COM FOR HELP; TOYOTA.COM OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AND POINTED FINGER AT COPELAND FOR THEIR DECISION NOT TO REPLACE.

MY TRUCK WAS AT THE DEALER ( BOCH TOYOTA NORWOOD MA) FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I WAS TOLD FRAME INTACT, IT WAS TREATED WITH RUST PROOFING AND COATING. LAST WEEK THE BRAKES FAILED- IT TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINE WAS ROTTED THROUGH CAUSING LEAKING OF BRAKE FLUID. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. WHEN HE REPLACED BRAKE LINE HE TOLD ME FRAME WAS ROTTED WITH LARGE HOLES IN SEVERAL AREAS. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO DEALER- TOLD NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME.

TOYOTA TUNDRA FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2016 IMMEDIATE AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED AND PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOT HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. RUST DAMAGE ON THE FRAME WAS NOT BAD. WE HAD IT UNDERCOATED FOR PROTECTION. NOW THERE ARE RUST HOLES AND TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE EXTREME AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FAULTY FRAMES. THE 2006 SEQUOIA FRAMES WERE RECALLED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST, BUT THE TUNDRAS WERE NOT, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME FRAME. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD US THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT AND THEN MARKED OUR VEHICLE AS "UNDRIVEABLE" IN THEIR SYSTEM WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COVER PLATE IS LEAKING GEAR OIL. THE COVER PLATE IS FIXED IN PLACE NOT BOLTED ON. THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY IS THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR TOYOTA TACOMAS SO I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM WITHOUT A RECALL INITIATED BY NHTSA. SHOULD THIS COVER PLATE TOTALLY FAIL WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY THE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL THE RESULTING ACCIDENT MAY CAUSE LOSS OF LIFE FOR THIS VEHICLE AND OTHER VEHICLES TRAVELING ON THE SAME HIGHWAY.
