MY TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS SEVER FRAME RUST AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE TRUCK HAS 173,000 MILES ON IT AND I JUST GOT IT PAID OFF AND WILL NOW HAVE TO JUNK IT.
MY FRAME IS RUSTING BADLY AND THERE IS METAL SEPARATING WHERE THE LEAF SPRINGS MOUNT TO THE FRAME
MY SERVICE PROVIDER REPORTED IN OCTOBER 2018 THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS VERY RUSTED. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE RUSTED MUFFLER. DURING THE TEST DRIVE AFTER REPAIRS THE FRONT BRAKE LINE BURST BECAUSE OF RUST. I HAD IT REPAIRED. DURING PRESSURE TESTING AFTER REPAIRS THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST BECAUSE OF RUST. AT THIS POINT, THE DEALER SHOWED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS SO DETERIORATED THAT IT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR WOULD BE MORE THAN THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, SO I PARKED THE TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. IF MY WIFE AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN THE BRAKE LINES BURST, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKE LINES RUSTING AND FAILING BEFORE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT I WAS NOTIFIED TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED IN 2015 FOR POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP WITH MY PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE WITH EVERY OPTION AVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE IS NO LONGER USABLE. HOW MANY OTHER TUNDRAS OUT THERE HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF BRAKE LINES FAILING BECAUSE OF RUST.
FRAME HAS RUST HOLES . HAD TO REPLACE REAREND HOUSING DUE TO RUST HOLES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRAME WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
HAD TRUCK TOWED DUE TO BROKEN BRAKE LINE AND WAS ADVISED BY MECHANIC THAT FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WITH HOLES ABOVE FRONT WHEELS AND WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. REAR END ALSO SEVERELY CORRODED. CONTACTED TOYOTA DEALER, NO WARRANTY OR RECALL ON 2006 FRAMES ALTHOUGH TUNDRAS AND TACOMAS OLDER AND NEWER THAN 2006 ARE GETTING WARRANTIED FRAME REPLACEMENTS DUE TO RECALLS. DEALER WENT TO THE GARAGE THAT HAD TOWED THE TRUCK AND INSPECTED THE FRAME. DEALER ADVISED US TO GET HOLES IN FRAME FIXED AT OUR EXPENSE. DEALER VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS AN EARLIER RECALL TO SPRAY FRAMES, BUT THE SPRAY HAD LIMITED AVAILABILITY FROM TOYOTA AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FULFILL THE RECALL WHEN WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THEM FOR THIS SERVICE. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 150,000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVABLE FOR MANY MORE. WE LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA USA ON 11/14/2018, COMPLAINT# 181 114 1536 AND ARE NEXT ENTERING A COMPLAINT WITH THE NH ATTORNEY GENERAL.
TAKATA RECALL 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 4X4. PURCHASED ABOUT A YEAR AGO. POWER STEERING FAILED A COUPLE MONTHS IN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. FOUND FLUID LEAKING I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND FOUNF THE ENTIRE FRME RUSTED AND BOTH ANTI ROLL BAR LINKS HAVE SEPARATED FROM CONTROL ARMS. THE BUSHINGS AND NUTS WERE MISSING AND THE POWERSTEERING LINK IS FROM ROTTED BOOT ON THE PASENGER SIDE.
DRIVING HOME AT THE END OF OUR VACATION, MY WIFE AND I WERE IN SEPERATE VEHICLES, SHE IN FRONT OF ME ON I-80 GOING WEST BOUND. WE'D JUST GOTTEN OFF THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE AND AS TRAFFIC WAS BUILDING AND SLOWING, SHE BRAKED AHEAD OF ME AND WHEN I PRESSED MY BRAKE IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULDN'T STOP IN TIME BEFORE REAR ENDING THE CAR MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. IT WAS A LOW SPEED IMPACT, MAYBE 25 MPH. NO POLICE REPORT AND WE JUST KEPT DRIVING AFTER CHECKING THAT ALL WAS OK. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED AND THE MECHANIC CALLED ME TO SAY THE BRAKE LINES AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE STATED HE CANNOT DO THE WORK DUE TO THE FACT THE TRUCK IS RUSTED BEYOND REPAIR AND HE FELT UNSAFE TO WORK UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK FOR FEAR OF IT FALLING ON HIM. I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRUCK FOR RUSTED FRAME ISSUES AND THE WINDOW TO RESPOND WAS MISSED DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS INVOLVING CARE OF A SINCE DECEASED MOTHER. I TRIED TO TALK TO TOYOTA BUT THE SHORT ANSWER IS I WAS TOO LATE EVEN THOUGH THE RUSTED FRAME IS ONLY WORSENING WITH TIME DUE TO FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IS A MANUFACTURING FLAW WITH THE METHOD THESE TRUCKS WERE PRODUCED.
FIRST COMPLAINT WAS IN MOTION CAME TO A SIGNAL LIGHT STARTED APPLYING BRAKES TO STOP CAME TO STOP BRIEFLY AS I WAS PUSHING BRAKE PEDAL COULD FEEL GRINDING LIKE UNDER PEDAL AND TRUCK BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD WHILE HOLDING BRAKE THEN CONTINUED TO PUMP BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES TO TRY AND STOP IT BECAUSE IT WAS MOVING ME AND MY CHILDREN INTO MOVING TRAFFIC INTERSECTION.. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ON A FEW OCCASTIONS SECOND COMPLAINT. DRIVER FRONT LOWER BALLJOINT GRINDING, POPPING SCRUBBING SOUND WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED ANY LITTLE BIT WHILE DRIVING OR STOPPED AND POPPING METAL SOUND EVEN WHEN ANYONE GETS IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE.ALSO SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN 2013 THE U-JOINT HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES DUE TO SHAKING TAKEN OFF AND SLOWING DOWN WHEN TAKEN PART OFF METAL SHAVENS WOULD POUR OUT FROM THE PART IN SMALL PILE.
I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND PURCHASED IT ONLY AFTER I REVIEWED ITS CARFAX HISTORY, DEALERSHIP REPAIR HISTORY, AND ADDITIONAL OWNER DOCUMENTS. SPECIFICALLY, THIS TRUCK WAS TREATED WITH A TOYOTA DEALERS RUST PROTECTION PACKAGE WHICH COVERED STRUCTURAL MEMBERS AND FRAME OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE ARE WARRANTED NOT TO RUST THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD SPECIFIED'. PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE RUST PROTECTION POLICY WARRANTY, THE ORIGINAL OWNER REQUESTED FRAME RUST EVALUATION AND REMEDIATION. TOYOTA PERFORMED THIS SERVICE IN 2015. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. FOLLOWING MY PURCHASE, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOYOTA AUTONATION IN LIBERTYVILLE IL FOR A MECHANICAL INSPECTION. AT THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS PERFORATED. THE TOYOTA AUTONATION SERVICE MANAGER SUBMITTED A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE PERFORATION TO TOYOTA CORPORATE TO REQUEST FRAME REPLACEMENT. HE WAS TOLD BECAUSE RUST REMEDIATION SERVICE HAD BEEN PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY, TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE FRAME RUST PERFORATION DEFECT. PROPER MANUFACTURING ANTI-CORROSION APPLICATION ALONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENT, ESPECIALLY FOR A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE AND EXEMPLARY OWNER CARE AND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE. WHEN I ASKED THE TOYOTA AUTONATION ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER HOW I COULD FIX THE FRAME DAMAGE, HE SAID ONCE PERFORATION OCCURS YOU REALLY CAN'T, BECAUSE WHAT HAS OCCURRED IN ONE LOCATION IS PROBABLY OCCURRING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FRAME, AND I COULD DUMP (SELL) THE TRUCK. FOR THESE REASONS, I BELIEVE THIS TOYOTA TUNDRA'S FRAME PERFORATION RUST IS DUE TO DEFECTIVE DESIGN, MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP DURING IN MANUFACTURE OF THE VEHICLE, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT HELP RESOLVE THE ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO A FIELD UNTIL IT FINALLY STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON THE LIFT, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED, INCLUDING ALL THE OTHER COMPONENTS BENEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KINDERHOOK TOYOTA (1908 NY 9H, HUDSON, NY 12534) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERE RUST FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,766. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO RECOMMENDED THAT IT NOT BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRUNSWICK TOYOTA (3041 CENTER RD, BRUNSWICK, OH 44212, (888) 890-1882) IN 2015 TO BE REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL TO PREVENT THE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER, BUT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE LEMON LAW AND THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 161,000.
There is a bracket under the drivers seat, left side of seat, that is cracked all the way through just above the weld where it attachs to the horizontal tube that rotates when the power lever is pushed forward or backward. This bracket is associated with the "seat back" tilting forward or backward. This bracket being broken, allows the drivers seatback to be unstable and can be tilted forward in the event of an accident.
THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK IS RUSTING AWAY. THE LEFT RAIL OF THE FRAME ( UNDER THE DRIVERS AREA) LOOKS LIKE SWISS CHEESE WITH ALL THE HOLES IN IT. YESTERDAY I TOOK THE TRUCK TO HAVE THE FRAME PATCH WELDED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T THE WORST SPOT OF ROT. THE FRAME SECTION THAT JOINS THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS BADLY ROTTED AND WHEN TAPPED WITH A HAMMER HUNKS OF IT ARE FALLING OFF. I HAVE BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO HERB CHAMBERS, MY DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT FIT THE CRITERIA FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT. IN 2015 I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR ITS RECALL FOR FRAME ROT AND THE TRUCK RECEIVED A FRAME COATING OF RUST PROTECTOR. 2 YEARS LATER I WAS TOLD BY THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE AREA THAT THIS COATING WAS A JOKE. TOYOTA FOUND THAT THE COATING NEVER DRIED THEREFORE WOULD HAVE WASHED OFF IN THE NEXT WET DRIVING DAY, SO NO RUST PROTECTION. WHEN I QUESTIONED TOYOTA CORPORATE WHY THE 06 TUNDRA WASN'T GETTING CALLED BACK WHEN SO MANY OTHERS HAD BEEN, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE. I LOVE MY TRUCK, IT RUNS GREAT, HAS NO OTHER ISSUES, 259,844 MILES ON IT AND I NEED TO KEEP IT GOING FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO MY FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES AND REALLY NEED MY TRUCK TO GET TO WORK AND HOSPITAL IN BOSTON WITH MY HUSBAND. CAN YOU OFFER ANY RECOURSE? I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WITH A ROTTEN FRAME ON MY 06 TUNDRA. IN 2015 TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION BECAUSE MY MECHANIC SAW SCALY RUST ON FRONT PART OF FRAME.WAS INSPECTED UNDERCOATED AND TOLD FRAME WAS FINE.3 YEARS LATER THERE IS A 6 INCH ROTTED HOLE IN SAME PART OF FRAME I COMPAINED ABOUT.WAS TOLD BY MY TOYOTA DEALER AND TOYOTA CORP. THERE IS NO WARRENTY
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS TOO FAR TO TRAVEL. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE PARTS SENT TO ANOTHER LOCATION. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, A TRACTOR TRAILER ENTERED THE CONTACT'S LANE. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT DESCRIBED THE FAILURE AS A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE FUNCTION. IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID A CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNSHIFTED TO THIRD GEAR AND THEN SECOND GEAR TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE TO TOYOTA KNOXVILLE (10415 PARKSIDE DRIVE, KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE 37922, (865) 312-6618) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED. THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK BRACKET WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 1808302087. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S FRONTAL AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED TWO FRACTURED TOES, BRUISING TO THE STOMACH, AND A SORE NECK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MAJOR RUST IN FRAME AS NOTED BY MY AUTO SERVICE PERSON.
Takata Recall. The contact owned a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the front driver and passenger-side air bags deployed independently, causing the contact to crash into a power pole. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact sustained a back injury and sought medical attention after the incident. The police did show up but the contact was not aware if they filed a police report. The vehicle was not drivable. The insurance deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not diagnosed. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 15V286000 (Air bags) and 16V065000 (Air bags). The failure mileage was unknown.
THE ENTIRETY OF THE VEHICLE FRAME IS RUSTED. CROSS-MEMBERS SUPPORTING THE BUMPER AND SPARE TIRE ARE ROTTED AND/OR FALLING AWAY FROM THE MAIN FRAME. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH UNDERCOATING APPLIED, BUT THE FRAME RUST WAS ALREADY TOO EXTENSIVE UNDERNEATH AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT CORROSION.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. *JS

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000. *TT
TOYOTA TUNDRA 2006 RUSTED FRAME, STRAIGHT TO THE POINT I HAVE A 2006 TUNDRA DIAGNOSED MAY 15 2018 BUY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WITH RUST THROUGH ON THE FRAME AND TOYOTA TELL'S ME THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I FIND THAT STRANGE SINCE TOYOTA REPLACED MANY MANY FRAMES ON 2000 TO 2006 TUNDRA'S.
MY TIRES WERE ROTATED BY DISCOUNT TIRES (3836 PLAZA DR., OCNSD, CA). THEY DID NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE LUGS ON MY RIGHT DRIVER SIDE TIRE AND IT FLEW OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND BADLY DAMAGED MY CAR. THEY ARE DENYING ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND ASSUME THAT THE LUGS ARE EITHER TIGHTENED FULLY OR NOT AT ALL. I LOCATED ALL THE LUGS AND ONLY ONE SHEARED OFF THE STUFF. ALSO THE SAFETY STUD WAS NOT TIGHTENED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY TRAIN THEY EMPLOYEES FOR PROPER AND SAFE TIRE ROTATION. ALSO PLEASE LET ME KNOW ANY OTHER AGENCY THAT OVERSEES TIRE ROTATION BUSINESSES. THANK YOU.
WHILE CHANGING A FUEL TANK STRAP THAT BROKE DUE TO RUST, I NOTICED THE CROSS MEMBER AT THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK IS ROTTED RIGHT THROUGH WHERE IT MEETS THE MAIN FRAME. TRUCK HAS BEEN UNDERCOATED. I TALKED TO TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE NOT FIXING IT AT THIS TIME AS THERE IS NO RECALL. HOW EVER THE 2005 AND 2006 SEQUOIA ARE PART OF THIS RECALL AS WELL AS THE 2007 TO 2009 TUNDRA.
THE FRAME ON THIS 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF MAKING THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS DEGRADATION HAS HAPPENED FAR SOONER THAN THE EXPECTED RETIREMENT AGE FOR THIS VEHICLE. TOYOTA HAS NOT INCLUDED THIS FRAME AS PART OF IT'S FRAME ROT RECALL WHICH APPLIES TO MANY OTHER FRAMES FROM SIMILAR YEARS.
FRONT TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY HOLDING BRACKETS BROKE AND BECAME DIS ATTACH FROM TRUCK BODY. THE HOLD ASSEMBLE IS MADE OF PLASTIC. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE LEFT SIDE TURN LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS HANGING BY WIRE.THIS HAPPEN EARLY IN THE MORNING ON A STATE HIGHWAY.
DROVE MY TRUCK ABOUT 200 MILES THAT DAY. PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND UNLOADED A FORMICA COUNTER TOP IN MY GARAGE THEN PULLED MY TRUCK TO IT'S NORMAL PARKING SPOT. WALKED BACK TO THE GARAGE AND SAW A RATHER LARGE GREASE SPOT. LOOKED AT THE REAR OF MY TRUCK AND THE REAR END HOUSING WAS LEAKING AROUND THE PUMPKIN AREA. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME MY WHOLE REAR END HOUSING WAS RUSTED OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS (FRAME WAS REPLACED A YEAR AGO) MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE ARE NO GOOD USED REAR ENDS TO BE FOUND AND IT WOULD REQUIRE A NEW REAR END HOUSING. IF TOYOTA HAD MADE A RECALL ON FRAME ISSUES, WHY HAVEN'T THEY DONE THE SAME WITH THE REAR END HOUSING. A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE REAR DRIVING TRAIN SEEMS TO ME WOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!!

THE CONTACT CALLED GIRARD TOYOTA AT (860) 447-3141 (LOCATED AT 543 COLMAN ST, NEW LONDON, CT 06320) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT NO RECALL WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN AND THERE WOULD BE A FEE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE UPPER BALL JOINT FAILED 16 DAYS AFTER THE ANNUAL INSPECTION. MY SON DROVE OVER A SPEED BUMP IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX AND THE DRIVER-SIDE FRONT WHEEL FOLDED UNDER THE CAR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND TOLD THEM THEY SHOULD RECALL VEHICLES WITH THIS PART BECAUSE OF THE CATASTROPHIC NATURE OF THE FAILURE. THEY DISMISSED IT AND CLAIMED "...WE DO NOT SHOW ANY RECALLS OR OTHER SUPPORT PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE." JUST A FEW HOURS BEFORE THIS PART FAILED, MY SON HAD BEEN HELPING FRIENDS MOVE. HE HAD BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WITH THREE PASSENGERS IN HIS TRUCK AND THE BED OF THE TRUCK FULL OF FURNITURE. PEOPLE COULD HAVE DIED. THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN IS INEFFECTIVE AT MITIGATING THE SAFETY CONCERN OVER THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE. 2007-2008 ARE SUBJECT TO RECALL AS WELL. NHTSA SHOULD ADDRESS THIS MATTER TO ENSURE TOYOTA RESOLVES THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH A RUSTING FRAME.
FRAME RUST ON FRONT OF VEHICLE IN THE "CRUMPLE" ZONE. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT IT WAS PART OF LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN D0D FOR 2004-2006 TUNDRAS AND THAT A SEALANT WAS APPLIED IN JUNE 2014 AND NO OTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN. THESE VEHICLES CLEARLY HAVE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ISSUES DUE TO KNOWN FRAME RUSTING RESULTING FROM A MANUFACTURING DEFICIENCY THAT ARE BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE 2004-2006 MODEL YEARS JUST LIKE THE 2000-2003 TUNDRA VEHICLES THAT WERE SUBJECT TO FULL RECALL. THE NHTSA SHOULD TAKE ACTION WITH THE 2004-2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA VEHICLES TO ENSURE TOYOTA ADDRESSES THE SAFETY RELATED STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY CONCERNS WITH THE FRAMES OF THESE VEHICLES AS THEY HAVE FOR THE 2000-2003 AND 2007-2008 MODEL YEARS.
EARLIER IN THE YEAR OF 2017, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA (BRIAN WARNER ET AL. V. TOYOTA MOTOR SALES) WAS SETTLED REGARDING FRAME RUST AND CORROSION. THIS LAWSUIT LED TO THE RECALL OF ALL 2005-2010 TACOMAS, 2007-2008 TUNDRAS, AND 2005-2008 SEQUOIAS. BEING THAT THE SEQUOIAS ARE BASED OFF OF THE TUNDRA IT IS INTERESTING THAT THE RESPECTIVE YEARS OF TUNDRAS WERE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SEQUOIAS. THE ARGUMENT FOR THE CASE WAS THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY RUST PROTECTANT PUT ONTO THESE FRAMES AND THEREFORE THEY WERE ROTTING PREMATURELY AND CAUSING SERIOUS DANGER TO THE PEOPLE WHO DRIVE THEM. I HAVE EVEN READ STORIES OF TRUCKS SNAPPING IN HALF UNDER THEIR OWN WEIGHT WHEN BEING PUT ONTO A LIFT. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 TUNDRA AND AM EXPERIENCING THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT AM NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. ONE OF THE RACK AND PINION MOUNTS THAT ARE WELDED ONTO THE FRONTMOST CROSSMEMBER OF THE FRAME IS 2/3 ROTTED AWAY AND IS ALMOST TO THE POINT WHERE IT WILL BREAK OFF LEADING TO AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE REASON TOYOTA LOST THIS LAWSUIT AND WHY OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED. TOYOTA ALSO RECOGNIZED THIS ISSUE IN 2015 WITH A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN WHICH EXPIRED AND OFFERED NO WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR IT. I RECENTLY VISITED A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO WENT UNDER THE VEHICLES AND CLAIMED THAT THE ROT IS SO BAD UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FRAME ENTIRELY IF IT HAD BEEN RECALLED. THEY ALSO GAVE ME DOCUMENTATION OF THIS. ESSENTIALLY MY FRAME IS BEYOND REPAIR AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY BECAUSE OF THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY. I THEN CONTACTED THE TOYOTA CORPORATE NUMBER AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER BUT THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IF THE 2006 SEQUOIA WAS INCLUDED WHICH IS BASED OFF OF THE TUNDRA, AND HAS THE EXACT SAME FRAME, WHY WASN'T THE TUNDRA INCLUDED WITH THIS RECALL?
Luckily there has not been an incident as of yet. Shortly after I purchased truck in 4-2017 the steering rack rusted off, had that repaired, few months later noticed rear differential was dripping due to rust eating through entire casing. My mechanic informed me that there was a recall issue involving frame rust so I took it to Toyota service dept. where they inspected and said it was fine and that the recall had expired. I went ahead and spent $1100.00 for new tires and a few weeks later heard noise underneath, turns out exhaust reducer is rusted apart, but when I looked at frame I was shocked to see several holes, a couple the size of my fist and frame looks like it is starting to twist. I took it to dealer again to have them look at it and they just said there is nothing they can do for me at this point. The rest of truck is rust free, in great shape, it was 80% garage kept. Please let me know if there is any recourse for me with this potentially dangerous situation.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BACK IN 2013 DUE TO SB-10058681-4896 FOR THE FRAME. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS SPRAYED WITH AN UNDERCOATING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN EXPIRING IN 2015, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE LIMITED SERVICED CAMPAIGND EXPIRED, BUT NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED EXCEPT REFERRING THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,079. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE ADVISED OF ANY INFORMATION RESULTING FROM THIS COMPLAINT. *JS

THE DEALER (PREMIER AUTOMOTIVE GROUP, 1140 MAIN ST, MILFORD, OH, 45150) WAS CONTACTED AT 513-831-7200 AND MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT AWAITED A RESPONSE/CALL BACK FROM THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1710042512. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE, AND THAT THERE WAS ONLY A TSB FOR CORROSIVE RESISTANT COATING THAT WAS APPLIED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE AND CLOSED THE CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,710.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND A NOTIFICATION WAS SENT TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE RECALL WAS NOW EXPIRED; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SERVICED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000.
CURRENT MILEAGE APROX. 89000 . HAD A BRAKE CHECK AT MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. RAISED TRUCK ON TO THE LIFT AND WAS SHOCKED AT WHAT HAD BEEN REVEALED . THE FRAME HAS ROTTED THROUGH ALL OF ITS CROSS MEMBERS, CREATING A MAJOR STRUCTURAL PROBLEM. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER WICH IS CONNECTED AT 4 POINTS TO THE MAIN FRAME RAILS IS NOW ONLY CONNECTED AT 1 POINT. THIS CROSS MEMBER ALSO CARRYS THE SPARE TIRE. IF GONE UN DISCOVERD MAY HAVE FALLEN OFF DURING TRAVEL, CREATING A SAFTEY CONCERN. THE MAIN FRAME RAIL HAS MAJOR RUST DAMAGE AT THE CONNECTION POINT WITH THE CENTER CROSS MEMBER WICH PROVIDES STABILITY TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION . TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON THESE FRAMES BUT WERE ONLY PROVIDING A SPRAY ON RUBBERIZED COATING, WICH MOSTLY FLAKED OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND OPENED UP A CLAIM WICH WAS EVENTUALLY DENIED.THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AS IS .IM NOT FINANCIALLY IN A POSITION TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE AT THIS TIME . I DONT KNOW WHERE ELSE TO TURN WITH THIS SITUATION IF YOU SPEND 40-50,000 DOLLARS ON A VEHICLE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN 89000 MILES OUT OF IT
I PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FROM BF GOODRICH DEALER IN MINNESOTA ON12/9/2015 THEY MOUNTED AND BALANCED AND INSTALLED THE TIRES. THEN ON 9/01/2017 I HAD A REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODE AND COME APART AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BROUGHT THE DAMAGED TIRE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH INSTALLED THEM AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TIRES THE DEALER SOLD ME AS NEW TIRES HAD A MANUFACTURES DATE OF 09/2000 THAT MEANT THAT THE TIRES WHERE OVER 15 YEARS OLD THAT THEY SOLD ME AS NEW TIRES AND I BELIEVE THAT IS ULTIMATELY THE ISSUE OF THE TIRE EXPLODING CAUSING A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT TYPE OF ACTION AS A CONSUMER I CAN TAKE TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1802063078. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST SINCE THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN EXPIRED IN 2015. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH NO BODY RUST BUT THE FRAME IS ROTTING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD OR COULD HAVE EVEN KILLED SOMEONE AND TOYOTA DID NOT EVEN NOTIFY ME OF THE ISSUE. WHEN I DID FIND OUT ABOUT THIS AND CONTACTED TOYOTA THEY SAID THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM.
STATE INSPECTION REVEALED RUST PERFORATION OF FRAME, NEAR FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS
FRAME RUST - I AM EXPERIENCING MAJOR FRAME RUST ON MY VEHICLE. IT EFFECTS 90% OF THE FRAME, THE BRAKE LINES, CONTROL ARMS AND EVEN THE ALIGNMENT COMPONENTS. MOST RECENTLY MY ALIGNMENT COMPONENTS SEIZED UP WITH RUST AND NOW THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE PROPERLY ALIGNED WITH OUT REPLACEMENT OF THOSE COMPONENTS. THIS HAS CAUSE ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED 2000-2003 TUNDRA FRAMES. ALSO TOYOTA HAS NOW HAVE BEEN SUED FOR THE 2005-2007 SEQUOIA FRAMES & AND 2007-2008 TUNDRAS. MY VEHICLE NEEDS A RECALL AS WELL!!! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!!
