The car cuts off whwn you're driving it without warning. I have had the crankshaft position sensor replaced two times and it continues to fail. There are even reports in the internet that list this as a problem with this vehicle. I am afraid that someone will hit me from the rear and cause me injury or death. I am about to have this sensor replaced for a third time. It's absolutely ridiculous that I have to keep spending money out of my pocket for the same thing over and over again. This incident is a continual problem. It doesn't matter if you're stopped or driving it just happens out of the blue with no warning.

THIS 2006 LUCERNE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAS SHUT OFF FOUR TIMES THIS YEAR AND TWO TIMES LAST YEAR. THE LAST TIME IT SHUT OFF, WAS APRIL 11, 2017 5:00 PM CENTRAL STANDARD TIME ON A BUSY CITY STREET. MY WIFE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STEER THIS CAR WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. WHEN SHE HAD RESTARTED THE ENGINE SHE WAS SO NERVOUS UNTIL SHE ACCIDENTALLY TURNED THE WRONG WAY ONTO A BUSY BY-PASS.
4.6L NORTHSTAR ENGINE LEAKS OIL, AND WHEN DRIVING YOU CAN SMELL HOT/BURNING OIL, EVEN FROM INSIDE THE CAR. REALLY WORRIED THAT IT WILL CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE.
ALUMINUM V8 ENGINE LEAKING OIL PROFUSELY. NOW GETTING SMOKE AND ODOR WHILE DRIVING. MY CONCERN IS THAT OIL IS LEAKING ON TO THE HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND COULD POSSIBLY IGNITE. I SUSPECT ENGINE BOLTS NEED TO BE RETORQUED WHICH WOULD NECESSITATE ENGINE REMOVAL TO ACCOMPLISH. THIS IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW WHICH NEEDS CORRECTING. LEAKS OCCUR DURING ALL PHASES OF OPERATION. THE LEAKS FIRST BECAME EVIDENT SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND HAVE PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED SINCE.

MY 2006 BUICK LUCERNE ENGINES STOPS RANDOMLY. AS I AM TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD THE ENGINE SUDDENLY CUT OFF AND THERE IS A LOSS OF ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS BLACKS OUT AND WHEN IT STOPS YOU CAN NOT CRANK IT. AFTER WAITING DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF TIME YOU CAN CRANK IT UP AND CONTINUES UNTIL THE NEXT MYSTERIOUS OUTAGE . THIS IS MY WIFE CAR AND I DO NOT ALLOW HER TO DRIVE IT. I DO NOT TAKE IT ON ANY WINDING ROADS. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD IF THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN NO CODES WILL BE SET TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CARRIED IT TO THREE OTHER SHOPS TO NO AVAIL. TOOK MY CAR INTO FIRESTONE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE SAGGING. MOST CARS ONLY NEED THE BOLTS ON THE MOUNTS REPLACE - THE LUCERNE IS THE ONLY ONE WHERE YOU NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE MOTOR MOUNTS BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE BOLTS IN THEM. ANOTHER FEW MILES AND I WILL HAVE AN ENGINE SITTING ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM EXTREMELY UPSET BECAUSE MY HUSBAND IS ALREADY HANDICAPPED AND WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO LAST FOR MORE THAN 150,00 MILES BEFORE WE HAD TO SINK THAT KIND OF MONEY IN IT. SINCE ABOUT 60,000 MILES, THE CAR IT STALLS OUT. IT CAN STALL GOING 70 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE, STALL AT STOP SIGNS, STALL PULLING OUT OF AN INTERSECTION. LAST OCCURRENCE I WAS TRYING TO CROSS A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN IT STALLED. I COASTED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND IT RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY. IF A CAR HAD BEEN COMING FROM EITHER DIRECTION, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. I HAVE HAD 4 SENSORS REPLACED AND NOTHING SEEMS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

NO REASON WAS PROVIDED AS TO WHY THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I OWN AN '06 BUICK LUCERNE CXS WITH DEFECTIVE MOTOR MOUNTS. THESE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE AND MANY BULLETINS HAVE BEEN POSTED, ALONG WITH MANY KNOWN CUSTOMERS GETTING THEM REPLACED. I HOWEVER HAVE HAD BAD LUCK GETTING MY LOCAL BUICK DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THEM. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. THE DEFECTIVE MOUNTS CAUSE THE ENGINE TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE THE CAR. THIS TO ME SEEMS LIKE A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH AND WOULD LIKE TO GET THESE MOUNTS REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR

IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006, WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IN OCTOBER OF 2006, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE MECHANIC, BUT NO FAILURES WERE FOUND BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AGAIN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND IT WOULD NOT START FOR THEM AS WELL. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE IGNITION WIRE CODE APPEARED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THEY MADE THE REPAIR. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH DOWNHILL, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND IT RESTARTED. THE BUICK DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. FIVE DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE DAYS AND STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS AND A BURNED MODULE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 21,674 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,354.
