WHY IS THE AUTOMOTIVE MAKERS ALLOWED TO PUT OUT CAR WITH HEADLIGHT LENSES THAT CLOUD UP AFTER 6-7 YEARS. THIS REDUCES VISABILITY AND COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT.
2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 16000 MILES AND HAVE HAD IT 6 YEARS NOW. THE LAST 3-4 YEARS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH CONSTANTLY REPLACING HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS, APPROXIMATELY EVERY 6 MONTHS. NOW RECENTLY, BEGINNING SEPT. 2014, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR RUNNING LIGHT WILL NOT COME ON. THE BREAK LIGHT IS FINE AND THE PARKING LIGHT IS FINE, BUT NO RUNNING LIGHT. I KNOW IT IS NOT THE BULB, BECAUSE I USED THE BULB THAT WAS WORKING ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK. TOOK IT IN TO A LOCAL DEALER ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO AND THEY BASICALLY COULD NOT FIND ANY "PROBLEM". CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS AND FIX THE ONGOING ISSUES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,695. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING ON BUSY ROAD IN THE RAIN ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON...I DID NOT REALIZE THAT THEY HAD GONE OUT UNTIL I WAS PULLED OVER BY A STATE TROOPER AND GIVEN A TICKET...ALSO WHEN MY TANK REACHES 1/2 FULL THE NEEDLE WILL DROP TO EMPTY AND THE GAS LIGHT WILL COME ON WARNING ME THAT I HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE 1/2 TANK OF GAS IN THERE, ALMOST CAUSED A PILE UP ON THE HIGHWAY...LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN I PUT AIR IN ALL 4 TIRES. *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED EXCESSIVELY. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, NOR WAS THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
OWN SINCE NEW 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA , (MFG.: FEB 2004). ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH H7 HALOGEN LOW & HIGH BEAMS. ON NOV. 16, 2008, REPLACED LOW-BEAM H7 BULBS WITH 35W DDM HID KITS (HTTP://WWW.DDMTUNING.COM/PRODUCTS/DDM_35W_55W_SLIM_BALLAST_HID_KIT-101-60.HTML). HAVE ALREADY BEEN SUCCESSFULLY (FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS) USING A SIMILAR PAIR IN MY 1987 MERCEDES 300SDL, (9004 BULB FORM FACTOR WITH HIGH/LOW BEAM ELECROMAGNETOMECHANICAL ACTUATORS). ISSUE IS NOT WITH DDM UPGRADES BUT WITH THE PACIFICA! ONLY UPON ROUGHLY BELOW 60F AMBIENT TEMP. AND AFTER LIGHTS HAVE RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEY RECYCLE (I.E. FLASH OFF AND BACK ON), MOSTLY BOTH AT ONCE WHEN: A) STARTING FROM INITIAL STANDSTILL AFTER BOARDING AND THE POWER LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY ACTUATE TO CLOSE THE VEHICLE. B) SOMETIMES WHEN VEHICLE STARTS FROM STANDSTILL, EVEN WITHOUT POWER LOCKS ACTUATING. C) SOMETIMES WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE (E.G. GETTING OUT OF A PARKING). ISSUE NEVER OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE CRUISES, REGARDLESS OF ROAD BUMPINESS (NO LOOSE CONNECTION) AND HOW LONG AM DRIVING. LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT BURNS OUT AT 34K MILES. REPLACED H7 (OEM) LAMP MYSELF BECAUSE DEALER CLAIMS IT IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. UPON INSTALLING NEW LAMP THE OTHER LOW BEAM LAMP EXPIRED. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT AND CHECKED MY CAR STATS TO VERIFY ANY REPORTS. I SEE I AM NOT ALONE. *JB
HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ON 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA , AND THE 2005 PACIFICA WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. BUT, THE DEALER SAID THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE A DIFFERENT PART WAS REPLACED. ALSO, MODEL YEAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK. LUCKILY, I WAS AT HOME WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. IT APPEARED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE ONE MENTIONED IN THE RECALL AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *AK

THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO MY PROFESSIONAL OBSERVATIONS CONCERNING TAIL-LIGHT VISIBILITY DEFICIENCIES ON CHRYSLER PACIFICA VEHICLES (I'M AN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR AND FORENSIC PHOTOGRAPHER). THE TAIL LIGHT DESIGN ON PACIFICA VEHICLES IS LARGE, HOWEVER, THE AMOUNT OF RED LIGHT ACTUALLY TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE TAILLIGHT IS ONLY A THIN CIRCLE. FURTHERMORE, THE CIRCLE OF RED LIGHT CAN ONLY BE SEEN WHEN DIRECTLY BEHIND THE VEHICLE...FROM ANY OFF-AXIS POSITION, SUCH AS IN THE NEXT LANE, ONLY A SMALL ARC OF RED LIGHT CAN BE SEEN. IN BRIGHT DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS, BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE UNLESS ONE IS FOLLOWING DIRECTLY BEHIND THE PACIFICA; AT NIGHT, THE TAIL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE EASIER TO SEE, BUT REMAIN EXTREMELY HARD TO SEE IN COMPARISON TO ALMOST EVERY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. THAT IS, OTHER VEHICLES EASILY TRANSMIT THE RED ILLUMINATION ACROSS THE ENTIRE REAR QUADRANT OF 180-DEGREES OR MORE, SO VEHICLES FOLLOWING CAN SEE THE LIGHTS NO MATTER WHAT LANE THEY ARE IN BEHIND A VEHICLE. THE PACIFICA ONLY TRANSMITS THE FULL EXTENT OF RED ILLUMINATION ACROSS A VERY NARROW RANGE...MAYBE 10 OR 20 DEGREES...DIRECTLY BEHIND THE PACIFICA. OFF-AXIS VEHICLES IN THE SAME OR ADJACENT LANES DO NOT SEE THE FULL RED ILLUMINATION, AS THE TAIL LIGHT DESIGN HAS SOME TYPE OF PRISM EFFECT THAT LIMITS THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS LIGHT ACROSS THE ENTIRE REAR QUADRANT. I'LL BE HAPPY TO PHOTOGRAPH THIS DESIGN ISSUE IF NEEDED FOR YOUR INVESTIGATION.*AK
