Was driving and a tick was present then over heated sat on side of road until cooled down added coolant drove home . The next day car was drivable. Drove to school and car was sounding funny so took it to a repair shop and they told me the particular engine in the vehicle has a fuel efficient component where it shuts down the cylinders on the freeway, and the lifters are supposed to open, but our lifter did not open. It got stuck and grind the camshaft in the motor. Needless to say I had to have the car towed home. It’s just sitting in my parking lot. I tried calling Dodge. They wouldn’t help me. I tried calling multiple agencies to help. I looked up on the Internet and there is multiple complaints about the same problem it’s called the hemi lift so hopefully one day this can be recalled because I’m still paying on the car. I had a year and a half. No one will help me. My kids were driving the car. What if the thing blew up on them on the freeway and somebody hit them because Car wouldn’t move anymore . Or if they were taking the car through the desert and there is no phone calls and no one around. If they were going around corners of a mountain and just stopped on them or blew up because can’t drive the car anymore. very bad and scary and sad that the builder of that motor won’t fix their mistake and leave countless people stranded and in a predicament
I experienced a catastrophic timing chain failure despite prior recall work being performed by Dodge that supposedly resolved their known timing chain issues with the 5.7L hemi with automatic transmission. This failure occurred without any prior warning at a cruising speed of about 65 MPH rendering the car undrivable. There were no warning lights, drivability issues, or signs of the impending failure. This is a well-maintained car with only 80,000 miles, never missing a required oil change and other maintenance tasks. Timing chains should not fail at such low milage - indeed, timing belts will last longer before they fail. This failure occurred on a major highway placing me and other motorists in danger from the car being unmovable and potentially causing a high-speed collision on a 70 MPH highway. If this had occurred less than 0.5 miles down the road, both shoulders of the roadway were closed due to road widening construction. A certified letter with pictures of the timing chain and timing chain guide failures with a receipt for associated repairs was sent the to the manufacturer in December 2023 but they have not given me the courtesy of a reply. The engine was replaced by an independent mechanic at an out-of-pocket cost of $13,217.38 and the pictures were taken at that time by the repair shop.

Additionally, the low engine oil warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred approximately three or four times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
MY CAR WONT START I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY A FEW TIMES. BUT SOMTHING KEEPS DRAINING THE BATTERY. WHERE I HAVE BEEN STALLED ON HIGHWAY 5 LATE AT NIGHT.
SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE DUE TO SAFETY RECALL. DIAGNOSIS IS DEFECTIVE RECALL PART. CAR STALLED AT DEALERSHIP GOING ON 3 WEEKS. MANUFACTURE DOES NOT WANT TO COMPLETE WORK UNTIL MANUFACTURER APPROVES WARRANTY. FCA LLC IS YET TO APPROVE.
THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE FOR THE SECOND TIME. IT BROKE THE FIRST TIME AT 65K+ MILES. IT WAS FIXED (OF MUCH DAMAGE) VIA THE PO1 CUSTOMER CARE "RECALL". NOW IT'S AT APPROX. 104K MILES, IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER DENIED TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND MY CLAIM.
THE ENGINE DIES RANDOMLY SOMETIMES RIGHT AFTER STARTING AND SOMETIMES AT ROAD AND/OR HIGHWAY SPEED'S IT WILL READILY RESTART WITH THE KEY AND RUN FINE UNTIL THE NEXT RANDOM ACT. IT HAS DIED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS ONCE IN A CURVE THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO DRIFT IN ON COMING TRAFFIC BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OPPOSING TRAFFIC. IT SHOWS NO ENGINE CODES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (BROWNING DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM, 1983 HAMNER AVE, NORCO, CA 92860, (951) 272-3110) WHERE A ROAD TEST WAS PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 35174074. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,400.
ON A NORMAL LEFT TURN THE ENGINE STALLED.
MY 5.7-LITER HEMI ENGINE HESITATED SIX TIMES AND THE ENGINE COMPUTER REGISTERED THIS MALFUNCTION EACH TIME, BUT NEVER SET A CODE WHICH THE DEALER MECHANICS COULD READ TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. EACH MALFUNCTION CORRECTED ITSELF IN A FEW SECONDS, BUT THE LAST HESITATION WAS A STRONG ONE DURING WHICH THE ENGINE RAN VERY ROUGHLY FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES BEFORE RUNNING SMOOTHLY AGAIN. IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING ON ONE OR MORE CYLINDERS. EACH MALFUNCTION HAPPENED WHILE I WAS PASSING OTHER VEHICLES IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON A HIGHWAY WITH THE ENGINE UNDER ACCELERATION LOAD. WHEN I EASED OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE HESITATION DISAPPEARED AND I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE EACH VEHICLE PASS, BUT EACH PASS THUS TOOK LONGER AND PUT ME MORE AT POTENTIAL RISK OF COLLIDING WITH ONCOMING VEHICLES. THE LAST STRONG HESITATION FORCED ME TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER AND WAIT UNTIL THE ENGINE CORRECTED ITSELF IN ABOUT TWO MINUTES. THIS HESITATION HAPPENS RARELY AND THE ENGINE HAS CONTINUED TO RUN SMOOTHLY SINCE THE LAST STRONG EVENT. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM RESIDES INSIDE THE ENGINE OR WITHIN THE ELECTRONIC IGNITION. I HAVE A SIX-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND CRUISE CONTROL ON THIS CAR.
MY 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER RT WILL STALL WHEN MAKING A SLOW RIGHT HAND TURN, WHICH IN TURN THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST THREE YEARS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM PER THE ONLINE CHALLENGER BLOGS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED CALLING THE MANUFACTURER. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AS THE DEALER CANNOT REPLICATE INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS.
I HAVE A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER R/T. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT IN BETWEEN ME RELEASING THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATING MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND MY ENGINE STOPPED. THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND THE BRAKES WERE DIFFICULT TO USE. THE A/C AND RADIO WERE STILL FUNCTIONAL. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE OIL LIGHT NO LONGER APPEARED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE THIS SUMMER 2015 AND ONCE LAST SUMMER 2014. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NO CODES WERE FOUND ON ALL OCCASIONS. I HAVE A LIFETIME MOPAR WARRANTY HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE, THEREFORE THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE ROOT CAUSE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO COMPLETED OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING AND FOUND NO ISSUES. I WAS ABLE TO USE MY CELL PHONE TO RECORD THE OIL LIGHT SHOWING THE LAST TIME THE ISSUE OCCURRED. I HAVE ALSO FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH DODGE. DODGE SUGGESTED THAT THERE COULD POSSIBLY BE ELECTRICAL ISSUES.
CAR SHUT OFF GOING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING. WOULD NOT START AGAIN. TOWED TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND IT TOOK 3 WEEKS OF THEM NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG AFTER I SUGGESTED TIMING CHAIN SEVERAL TIMES. THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTER, CHARGED ME $230 FOR A BATTERY I DID NOT NEED . FINALLY THEY REALIZED 6 OUT OF 8 HEADS WERE BENT AND TIMING CHAIN BROKE. NOW WHEN I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR IT SOUNDS LIKE 10 SPEED BICYCLE WHEN PEDDLING BACKWARDS. I AM SCARE TO TAKE IT BACK SINCE IT TOOK 5 WEEKS LAST TIME.
I WAS TRAVELING ON SR 10 EASBOUND AND AFTER PASSING THE FL STATE LINE COMING FROM ALABAMA, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT THE ENGINE STOPPED. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DODGE DEALERSHIP TO PENSACOLA, FL. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE BROKEN TIMING BELT CHAIN THAT DODGE HAS A NATIONAL RECALL ON. THE REPAIR COST OF THE DAMAGE IS $4500 (VALVES, CYLINDER-HEAD ETC.) AND DODGE WOULD NOT GIVE AUTHORIZATION TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE TO ME CLAIMING THAT THE CAR HAS A REBUILT TITLE. THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, IT'S A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT MY CAR WAS IN A SMALL ACCIDENT AND IT'S REAR WAS REPAIRED BY USING ORIGINAL PARTS. IT WAS INSPECTED AND GIVEN NOT A SALVAGE BUT A REBUILT TITLE THAT IS A MARKETABLE TITLE.I BELIEVE THAT BY LAW THEY SHOULD BE OBLIGATED TO REPAIR IT. *TR
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND DECELERATING TO ENTER I40 WEST OF ASHVILLE, NC. ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE STOP AT THE RIGHT SHOULDER. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT DEALER 1 WEEK PREVIOUSLY AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE TIMING CHAIN RECALL WERE ON BACK ORDER AND IT WOULD BE 4-6 WEEKS TILL I COULD GET THE REPAIR. ON 9/26/13 I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 60 MILES PER HOUR, I THEN SAW SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWN A BRIDGE AND OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. AFTER A TEAR DOWN OF THE ENGINE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND CAUSED EXTENSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE. 2 WEEKS LATER AND I'M STILL WAITING ON THE PARTS TO BE DELIVERED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REPAIRS TO BE MADE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I SEE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER DODGE CHALLENGER OWNERS WITH THIS YEAR AND ENGINE TYPE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE I HAVE DONE ALL OF THE REQUIRED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, I FEEL THAT I AM NOT AT FAULT FOR THIS ISSUE. I NOW AWAIT TO SEE THE OUTCOME OF HOW MY CAR PERFORMS ONCE THESE EXTENSIVE REPAIRS ARE MADE AND HOW THIS WILL EFFECT MY TRADE IN VALUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING APPROXIMATELY 70-75 MPH IN MY 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER R/T (AUTO TRANSMISSION). THE CYLINDERS DEACTIVATED FROM 8 TO 4 AND THEN I HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE AND MY CAR LOST POWER. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE CAR ROLLED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AGAIN BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN. I GOT THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. MY CAR ONLY HAD 78,000 MILES SO A BROKEN TIMING CHAIN SEEMS UNUSUAL. MY MAINTENANCE HAS BE VERY GOOD ON THIS CAR AND NOTHING INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE TIMING CHAIN PRIOR TO MY CAR BREAKING DOWN. *TR
ENGINE STALLED IN TRAFFIC. MY WIFE ,A NURSE LIVES 3 MILES FROM WORK. THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS ALWAYS BEEN POOR WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY AN MORE EFFICIENT ON THE HIGHWAY BUT NEVER REALLY COLD. HER CAR HAS HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED FOR LEAKING SHAFT SEAL. ENGINE SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE SHOWED HOT. TOOK TO DEALER, AND AGAIN THE WATER PUMP GASKET WAS LEAKING. THEY SAID THAT WAS THE REASON THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. NO CODES IN THE COMPUTER. AFTER CHANGING THE ORIFICE TUBE. STILL NOT COOLING. NOW CHANGING THE DRYER AN CONDENSER. STILL DOESN'T COOL. FREON HAS BEEN DRAINED AN REFILLED NOW 5 TIMES DURING TROUBLE SHOOTING. COME TO THINK ABOUT IT. THE CAR HAS STALLED TWICE ON ME TURNING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AT MY LODGE. THIS ENGINE STALLING IS A CONCERN FOR ME BECAUSE SHE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE STEERING AN BRAKES. I SEE IT'S AN ISSUE WITH OTHER OWNERS.
