PROBLEM: FUEL FUMES IN THE CABIN OF MY 2010 CHALLENGER STATIONARY AND IN MOTION (CITY AND HIGHWAY). THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED UNDER THE REAR SEAT IN DODGE CHALLENGERS, CHARGERS AND THE CHRYSLER 300. INTERNET SEARCHES REGARDING FUEL FUMES IN THE CABIN REVEALED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING FUEL PUMP O-RING LEAKS. THERE ARE U-TUBE VIDEOS AVAILABLE FOR THE HOME MECHANIC. HOWEVER, IT IS UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT THAT AN OWNER PERFORM THIS REPAIR DUE TO THE EXPOSURE TO GASOLINE AND THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRE OR EXPLOSION. MY CHALLENGER IS A LIMITED EDITION MOPAR10 WITH METICULOUS MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED. IT HAD ONLY 60,958 MILES WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 01/28/21. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP O-RINGS AT A COST OF $396.00 ($96 IN PARTS AND $300 IN LABOR). I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IN ANY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED, NEW OR USED, SINCE 1978. THE EXPOSURE TO GASOLINE FUMES IS A WELL KNOWN HEALTH HAZARD ESPECIALLY IN A CLOSED ENVIRONMENT SUCH AS A VEHICLE CABIN. FOR THE CAR WITH ONLY 60K MILES WITH METICULOUS MAINTENANCE BEING PERFORMED BY ONE DEALERSHIP AND A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION OF DODGE AND CHRYSLER REPAIR RECORDS ON THIS ISSUE. A $400 REPAIR IS 25% PARTS AND 75% LABOR. I RESPECTFULLY SUBMIT THAT A RECALL HAS BE ISSUED. PLEASE NOTE THAT MY DODGE DEALER HAS BEEN EXCEPTIONAL REGARDING CUSTOMER CARE. STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE THE CAR WHEN PARKED OR DRIVING FOGS THE WINDSHIELD LEADING TO POOR VISIBILITY GOT A DIAGNOSTIC DONE BY MEINEKE TURNS OUT IT'S DUE TO CRACKED FUEL PUMPS HAD IT REPAIRED AT A COST OF $1000 TURNS OUT THERE ARE 8 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITE I BELIEVE YOUR INSTITUTION SHOULD DO A RECALL SINCE IT'S A DANGER TO THE DRIVER AND THE PUBLIC
GASOLINE LEAKING AROUND FUEL PUMP UNDER THE BACKSEAT INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. LEAKING UNDERNEATH VEHICLE IN FRONT OF REAR PASSENGER TIRE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK. THE SMELL/FUMES ARE OVERWHELMING INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THERE IS A POOL OF GASOLINE ON MY DRIVEWAY. UPON RESEARCH, THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH DODGE VEHICLES WITH NO SAFETY RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR CLOSE TO A YEAR WITH NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIPS.
ONE OF THE TWO FUEL PUMPS IN MY 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER HAD SOME SORT OF CRACK AND STARTED LEAKING. IT HAS RIGHT OVER 60,000 MILES ON IT. WE KEEP THIS CAR IN THE GARAGE ATTACHED TO ARE HOME. WE CAME HOME ONE DAY RIGHT AFTER WE FILLED THE GAS TANK UP ON THE CAR AND WE SMELLED GAS WHEN WE CAME HOME THAT DAY AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS ON ELF THE OTHER THINGS IN THE GARAGE SO WE REMOVED THAT THING. THE NEXT MORNING WE WOKE UP AND THE SMELL CAME IN THE HOUSE SO I WENT ONLINE AND STARTED LOOKING UP GAS SMELLS FROM 2010 CHALLENGER AND FOUND A FORUM OF CHALLENGER CAR OWNERS FROM 2009-2012 AND THEY ALL SAID IT WAS THEIR FUEL PUMP LEAKING SO I WENT HOME AND HOPED THE SWEAT UP AND COVER AND SHARE ENOUGH THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING GAS AND IT WAS DRIPPING ALL OVER AND RUNNING DON THE TANK WE REMOVED THE CAR FROM THE GARAGE AND IT NEVER WENT AWAY WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD NOT HELP US EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A FAULT IN THE PUMPS IN THE CARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF FUEL UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
GAS TANK STARTED TO EMIT VAPOR AND LEAK FUEL FROM PASSENGER SIDE AFTER FUELING. AT 3/4 OF A TANK THIS IS VISIBLE FUEL SPOT BENEATH THE VEHICLE. THIS LEAK IS CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST PIPES.
IT WAS OBSERVED THAT A GAS SMELL WAS NOTICED WHILE IN MY CAR WHEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND THREW OUT MY VEHICLE CABIN. AFTER A DAY OR SO I CALLED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND REQUESTED TO BRING IT IN DUE TO A STRONG GAS VAPOR SMELL COMING FROM MY VEHICLE. THEY ACTED VERY UNCONCERNED AND SAID NO APPOINTMENT WAS AVAILABLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. SAME DAY I TOOK MY CARE TO A SERVICE SHOP AND ASKED THEM TO RUN A DIAGNOSTICS CHECK TO LOCATE THE SMELL. AFTER A HOUR THE SERVICE REPAIR MAN LOCATED AND FOUND THAT MY RIGHT REAR FUEL MODULE WAS LEAKING GAS UNDERNEATH MY RIGHT PASSENGER REAR BACK SEAT. IMMEDIATELY I CALLED BACK TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE HEALTH HAZARD OF DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR BOMB. AT THAT POINT I WAS REQUESTED TO BRING MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE FUEL TANK ITSELF. THE NEW PLASTIC GAS TANKS THEY USE SOMETIMES SHIFT FROM OVER EX-POSER TO THE WEATHER ELEMENTS AND BROKE THE SEAL OF THE O - RING TO THE FUEL MODULE THAT IS CONNECTED TO MY GAS TANK. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE NEW GAS TANKS AND THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY GAS TANK AND FUEL MODULE TO FIX THE DEFECT.
ETC LIGHT FLASHES CONSTANTLY AND THE CAR DOESN'T RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL VERY WELL. I'VE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND MANY COMPLAIN THERE IS NO RIGHT FIX OTHER THAN REPLACING THE ETC. *TR
WHEN STARTING THE CAR ON A COLD START, THE TAIL PIPE EMISSION (GAS AND CARBON VAPORS) SURROUND THE VEHICLE AND ENTER THE CAR CABIN THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. (COMES UP THROUGH THE HOOD OF THE CAR) I BELIEVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS LOCATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT JUST UNDER THE VENTILATION SYSTEM.. THEY CHECKED TO SEE IF ALL PARTS HAD A TIGHT FIT AND THE SALES MANAGER BELIEVES THERE'S NOT A DEFECT.. *TR
