The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that there was a recall for the failure and referred the contact to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V640000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
THERE SEEMS TO BE A RELAY PROBLEM IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRST PROBLEM HAPPENED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED. IT HAD NO POWER. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND HAD NO INSTRUMENT PANEL. CHECKED FUSE BANK AND SWAPPED RELAYS AROUND FOR THE START RELAY. AFTER SWAPPING AROUND A COUPLE OF TIMES, IT CRANKED. IT RAN OK FOR THREE MONTHS. NEXT PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH MY WIFE DRIVING. WITH NO WARNING IT LOST POWER AND DIED. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER TRIAL AND ERROR, I SWAPPED AROUND RELAYS FOR THE CRANK & RUN RELAY. IT STARTED. NOTE, I DID NOT REPLACE ANY RELAYS. I JUST SWAPPED THE OUT WITH OTHER RELAYS. WHEN SWAPPING RELAYS, THE OTHER FUNCTIONS WORKED AS WELL. THIS SECOND TIME WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT JUST DIED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT WITH IT WORKING FINE FOR THE MOMENT.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. DUE TO BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON CRUISE CONTROL IS DISABLED. VEHICLE BRAKE OPERTATION IS DOING THE OPPOSITE, WHEN IN MOTION STAY ON AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPED BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF. CALLED GMC AND INFORMED THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR BUT FOR THE CHEVY MALIBU. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR TO REPAIR AND PAID TO HAVE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE REPLACED ON 02/15/2016, ALMOST 7 MONTHS LATER THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED. ATTEMPTED TO HAVE DEALERSHIP THAT REPLACED PART LOOK AT BUT TOLD THERE IS ONLY A 12,000 MILE OR 12 MONTH WARRANTY AND VEHICLE HAS REACHED OVER THE 12,000 SO NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. WE WERE ALSO INFORMED THE WAS ONLY A "TEMPORARY FIX, AND THE BCM DOESN'T FIX THE BREAKS." DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THE SECOND PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED,WHICH WE DECLINED, WOULD HAVE PERMANENTLY FIX THE ISSUE. PART HAD ALREADY BEEN PURCHASED AT $10 AND WAS GOING TO BE CHARGED BY DEALERSHIP $150 FOR THEM TO PROVIDE AND INSTALL. CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. GMC CALLED TO INFORM US THAT AS A COURTESY AND THE APPROVAL BY THE MANAGERS AT DEALERSHIP, WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE A $2000 VOUCHER TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE OR USED. CALLED DAYS LATER AS VOUCHER DID NOT COME THROUGH VIA EMAIL AND INFORMED UNFORTUNATELY VOUCHER AS THE VEHICLE MUST BE UNDER 100,000 MILE FOR TRADE IN. PER GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS TIME UNABLE TO RESOLVE CORRECTING THE SAFETY ISSUE WITH BODY MODULE CONTROL AND IT WOULD BE THE EXPENSE OF CUSTOMER TO REPLACE AGAIN AFTER ITS BEEN REPLACED A LITTLE OVER 7 MONTHS AGO. VERY FRUSTRATED AS DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IS 8 MONTHS PREGNANT AND DUE TO BREAK LIGHTS NOT WORKING MAY GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE NOT INFORMED THIS WOULD ONLY BE A TEMP FIX. AS TRUCK WAS STARTED AFTER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND BEING PULL OUT OF GARAGE ON11/10/15 THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER THE FRONT OF TRUCK. WHEN THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, THE MECHANIC SAW THAT THE WIRING WAS EXPOSED DUE TO CONTINUOUS SCRAPING AGAINST TRUCK FRAME.
TAKATA RECALL: PER DEALERSHIP, 8/12/16 UNABLE TO MAKE APPOINTMENT TO FIX THE RECALL NUMBER #49152. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE IN. SAYS IT COULD TKE UP TO ONE YEAR!!!! WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE TRUCK WAS SANDWICHED BETWEEN TWO CARS, THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT 35 MPH., HE WAS INJURED. AFTER VEHICLE CAME BACK FROM BODYSHOP WITH $7000.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE FIXED, AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. WE USE THIS TRUCK FOR OUR CONTRACTING BUSINESS, SO IS IT SAFE LIKE GM RECALL LETTER STATES? I CALLED GM BACK ON JULY 1ST, 2016, ASKED IF THERE WAS A TAKATA RECALL ON THIS TRUCK, I WAS TOLD NO. I TOLD THEM THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON SO WHY NOT RECALL BASED ON OTHER 2007 TRUCKS? PART 573 SAFETY RECALL REPORT GIVEN TO THE NHTSA BY GM CLEARLY SHOWS THAT ALL 2007 GMC SIERRAS WERE TO BE RECALLED IN AREA B, WHICH IS WHERE I LIVE.. HIGH HUMIDITY. MEMO WAS SUBMITTED MAY 27TH, 2016. I JUST GOT MY RECALL LETTER YESTERDAY, AUGUST 11TH. WHEN I CALLED GM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT, AND ASK WHY THE DELAY, I WAS HUNG UP ON. I WANT JUSTICE FOR AIRBAGS THAT DO NOT DEPLOY WHEN THEY SHOULD.. WHAT ABOUT WE FOLK? THERE ARE MANY OF US.THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON< AND NOW THERE ARE NO PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. OUR MECHANIC SAYS WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON, THE BAGS WILL NOT WORK. GREAT. AFFECTS A WIDE VARIETY OF GM AND CHEVY MODELS, AND SHOULD DEFINITELY HAVE A RECALL, AS THIS CAUSES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHAT HAPPENS IS : 1. TRUCK WILL BE RUNNING FINE, AS IT SHOULD. INTERMITTENTLY, WITHOUT WARNING WILL START HAVING DOOR LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN, ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, GAUGE CLUSTER RESETTING AND COMPLETE POWER LOSS TO THE ENGINE AND COMPONENTS (POWER STEERING, BRAKES, ETC.) 2. UPON SHUTTING OFF ENGINE EXPERIENCING FULL POWER LOSS. CANNOT CRANK ENGINE UNTIL POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED BY POPPING HOOD AND WIGGLING BATTERY TERMINAL CABLES. THE REASON WHY THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD HAVE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL, IS FIRST, WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS TRAVELING AT 80MPH. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO GUIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO USE BLINKER, POWER STEERING, OR POWER BRAKES. IN MODERATE TRAFFIC, I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON GERMANTOWN PKWY. AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL, THE LIGHT CHANGED TO RED AND I STOPPED THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS AT A DEAD STOP , I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPING FROM 0 TO 10 AND THEN HIGHER.WITH NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER FROM INSTRUMENTATION, THE ENGINE STALLED. THERE WERE NO INDICATOR SIGNALS AT ALL. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER PLACING THE SHIFT LEVER IN PARK AND TURNING THE KEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE INTERNAL/EXTERNAL LIGHTS INDEPENDENTLY FLASHED ON/OFF AND THE DOOR LOCKS INDEPENDENTLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE WOULD FLUCTUATE FROM 30 TO 50 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. ONE OF THE ELECTRICALLY POWERED, FOLDING EXTERNAL MIRROR ASSEMBLIES BECAME INOPERABLE ON MY 2007 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICKUP TRUCK WHICH LED TO THE ENTIRE MIRROR ASSEMBLY BECOMING LOOSE. THE RESULT WAS THAT THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY WILL SLIGHTLY MOVE BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO ERRONEOUSLY SENSE MOVEMENT OF HIS VEHICLE OR ERRONEOUS MOVEMENT OF AN ADJACENT VEHICLE. THIS FALSE SENSING OF VEHICLE MOVEMENT IS VERY DISTRACTING, CAUSING A DRIVER TO LOSE FOCUS ON THE ROAD AND TO LOSE FOCUS ON THE OPERATION OF HIS VEHICLE. THE CONDITION IS DISTRACTING ENOUGH THAT IT MAY, IN SOME DRIVERS, INDUCE VERTIGO WHICH COULD LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
HEATER MOTOR CONTINUES TO RUN AFTER THE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF, THE BLOWER ONLY WORKS RANDOMLY. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT GM VEHICLES. THERE IS A CHANCE OF ELECTRICAL FIRE WITH THE BEING ABLE TO RUN WITH THE SWITCH OFF ALSO THE REPORT WOULD NOT PULL A LIST OF PARTS NOR WOULD IT PERMIT ME TO TYPE IN THE PARTS: HEATER MOTOR BLOWER RESISTOR, AND WIRING CONNECTORS. *TR
HVAC SYSTEM BECAME OPERATIONAL WITH THE IGNITION TURNED OFF FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME WHILE THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. RELAY RESISTOR MODULE OVERHEATED CAUSING MELTING OF THE RESISTOR AND CIRCUIT BOARD. TRUCK CABIN AND VICINITY AROUND THE TRUCK HAD A STRONG SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC. TRUCK CABIN FILLED WITH SMOKE. WAS ONLY ABLE TO TURN OFF THE HVAC SYSTEM AND STOP THE BURNING BY DISCONNECTING THE WIRING HARNESS. DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR, RESISTOR, MODULE CONNECTOR AND RELAY. BURNING COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLES PARKED NEARBY AND THE HOUSE IN WHICH THE GARAGE WAS ATTACHED. ISSUE WAS IDENTICAL TO SCENARIO DESCRIBED IN TRANSPORT CANADA RECALL #2011074. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE VENTS ALONG WITH A BURNING ODOR. THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WAS ACTIVATED WHEN THE SMOKE STARTED POURING THROUGH THE VENTS. AS THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS TURNED OFF AND THE SMOKE CEASED. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NEVER USED AGAIN. MOST OF THE ELECTRICAL LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE SENSOR OR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,616.

I CONTINUE TO BE ANNOYED BY A CONDITION I EXPERIENCE WITH THE GMC VEHICLE I PURCHASED NEW THREE YEARS AGO. THE PROBLEM IS ONE THAT THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY FOR. THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT OR WHEN IT IS PARKED IN THE SHADOWS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS NOT LIGHTED WHEN ONE DRIVES AWAY SOMETIMES FOR PERIODS OF UP TO THIRTY TO FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. THIS BECOMES PARTICULARLY IRRITATING IN THE CASE OF THE RADIO WHICH CANNOT BE READ FROM THE DRIVER'S POSITION. ONLY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE BRIGHT SUN FOR SOMETIMES AS LITTLE AS TEN AND OFTEN AS MUCH AS FORTY-FIVE MINUTES WILL THE DASH LIGHTS KICK IN TO WHERE THEY ARE EASILY READABLE. I FIND THIS CONDITION A POTENTIAL HAZARD IN THAT PEOPLE MAY BE STRETCHING TO READ THEIR RADIO OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ADEQUATELY VIEW THEIR INSTRUMENTAL PANEL OTHERWISE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN ERROR. WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN ELECTRIC EYE OR SIMILAR DEVICE IS IN THE SHADOW OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ASSEMBLY OR THE PILLAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHAT HAPPENS THEN IS WHEN THE ELECTRIC EYE IS IN FULL SUN, IT EVENTUALLY SEEMS TO FIND WHERE IT IS AT AND THE LIGHTING IN THE DASH IS INCREASED. IT SEEMS THAT BECAUSE THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION MUCH IN THE WAY OF CELL PHONES, GM OUGHT TO BE MADE TO RECALL AND/OR OFFER A REMEDY TO THE CONSUMER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A HEATED WASHER FLUID MODULE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V240000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) PERTAINING TO THE SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REMOVED TO PREVENT A POSSIBLE FIRE FROM OCCURRING IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED HE DID NOT WANT THE MODULE REMOVED FROM HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THE DETERMINING FACTORS IN PURCHASING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE CLIMATE IN HIS AREA. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HIM THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR TO ASSIST HIM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 54,000.
ENGINE SHUTS DOWN, "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARS IN DISPLAY, ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATES. SINCE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN, LOSE STEERING AND BRAKING. LATEST INCIDENT OCCURED ON HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED FIRST YEAR I OWNED THE VEHICLE (I BOUGHT IT NEW), THEY REPLACED THE UNDERHOOD FUSE BOX. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON MARCH 13. THEY REPLACED A BLOWN PCM FUSE AND SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WHEN IT OCCURED ON 3/29, I REPLACED THE FUSE 5 TIMES TO TRY AND GET OFF THE FREEWAY. AFTER EACH TIME IT WAS REPLACED, I COULD DRIVE 1-2 MILES BEFORE IT WOULD BLOW AGAIN.
