STEERING POSITIONING / ANGLE SENSOR, FAULT THAT COULD SHUT YOUR VEHICLE DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE A 2007 GMC SIERRA AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE EXACT SAME PART, THE STEERING POSITION/ ANGLE SENSOR. I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR MORE THAN 2 MONTHS TO GET A DEALERSHIP TO ORDER ME THE PART TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED MY GENERAL MOTORS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS VEHICLE STILL ON THE ROAD THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE AND GM DISCONTINUED THIS PART.
TRUCK RANDOMLY DOESNT START. NO CRANK NO START BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND HAS NOW DIED AT HWY SPEEDS 3-4 TIMES. RESULTING IN NO POWER STEERING,NO ABS, AIRBAGS BECOME DEACTIVATED IN A STALL SITUATION TO MY KNOWLEDGE. MAKING IT VERY HARD TO CONTROL THE TRUCK IN ORDER TO GET IT OFF THE HWY/ROADWAY. STABILITRAK LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALL STAY ON AND THE MOST RECENT LIGHT IS NOW THE ABS LIGHT. NOW IT'S TO A THE POINT OF HARDLY STARTING AT ALL. THE KEY HAS RECENTLY BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN AS WELL. ORIGINALLY THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD CYCLE MULTIPLE TIMES , AND INTERIOR LIGHTS DASH LIGHTS WOULD ALL CYCLE AT FAST RATE ALL AT ONCE. WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY GET THE TRUCK TO START A SHORT TIME AFTER. ENGINE POWER REDUCED IS ANOTHER SPECIFIC WARNING THAT APPEARS NOW THAT IT'S NOW DYING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HWY. EACH INCIDENT WHEN THE TRUCK HAS STALLED IT'S BEEN WHEN DRIVING AT LEAST 60 MPH.OR MORE. NUMEROUS OWNERS OF GM VEHICLES ARE AND HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES FOR FAR TOO LONG WITH LITTLE BEING DONE FOR ALOT OF THESE OWNERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DRAINAGE DITCH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE EXTRACTED AND TOWED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,700.
07 GMC SIERRA(NEW BODY STYLE) WAS PARKED. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY TURNED THERE WAS A LOUD POP UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL BUT THE LEFT WOULD. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INNER TIE ROD BECAME UNSCREWED FROM THE RACK STEERING. NEW INNER AND OUTER TIE RODS WERE INSTALLED AND THE TRUCK WAS RE-ALIGNED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN INTERSTATE IT MAY HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. *TR
MULTIPLE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FAILURES OVER THE YEARS WITH LOUD CLUNKING NOISES HEARD. THIS TRUCK IS LIGHTLY USED AND NOW HAS ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT BUT IT HAS JUST HAD THE FOURTH SHAFT INSTALLED BY THE DEALER?!?! *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW HEAVY DUTY 2006 1/2 TON PICKUP TRUCK. IT PRESENTLY HAS FIFTY THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED MILES ON IT. I JUST WENT TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND WAS TOLD THE IDLER ARM ON THE STEERING ROD WAS WORN OUT. WHEN I ASKED FURTHER QUESTIONS THE TIRE GUY SAID THIS WAS REAL COMMON IN GM PRODUCTS. I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT IS OK FOR NOW BUT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN THE NEXT YEAR OR SO. I AM 60 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED NEW AND USED VEHICLES ALL MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. IF THIS IDLER ARM ON THE STEERING SHOULD FAIL THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO CONTROL THE TRUCK. I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PERFECTLY. GM MUST BE PUTTING SUBSTANDARD IDLER ARMS ON THEIR STEERING TIE RODS FOR HEAVY DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES WITH OVER ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS UNABLE TO MOVE; HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL OPERATED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE CONTACT CALLED A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED OR THE THREAD BECAME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH HAD IT OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,900.
THE TRUCK AFTER 40 MILES STARTED SCREECHING FROM THE FRONT WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS,AND WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER SAM SWOPE, I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NORMAL, ON THE WAY TO TOWN THE TRUCK STALLED AND WAS TOWED FOR REPAIR TURNS OUT THE COIL PLUG SHORTED OUT WIRES WERE REPLACED, NEXT DAY THE TRUCK STALLED AGAIN TOWED AGAIN TURNS OUT THAT BOOTH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WERE PLUGGED,BOOTH REPLACED. ENTERING THE FREEWAY WHEN ACCELERATED THE TRUCK DID NOT RESPOND, I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANNY, NOW I HAVE A CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK THEY CLAIM NOT TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, TIRES WORN OUT AT 27,000 MILES TURNS OUT ALIGNMENT PROBLEM BUT NO CAUSE FOR THE SQUEALING TIRES SENSE FIRST REPORTED THE FIRST DAY OF OWNER SHIP. SAME PROBLEM ALL THE TIME STEERING WHEEL NEVER BEEN ALIGNED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NEVER WORK RIGHT ALWAYS LOCKING UP ON BREAKING FIRST THING IN THE MORNINGS AND THE DEALERSHIP NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THIS TRUCK IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH TO ANY FAILURES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED WHILE TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. THE CONTACT HAS TO MANUALLY RETURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE CENTER. THE DEALER STATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DRIVE BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND OTHER SERVICES NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED. ORIGINALLY, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. A TECHNICIAN FROM DETROIT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF HE COULD IDENTIFY THE FAILURE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN MID-JANUARY OF 2008, THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING PUMP AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT KEEP REPLACING THE PARTS UNTIL THEY LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,616 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
EXCESSIVE "CREAKING" NOISE HEARD FROM WITHIN STEERING WHEEL DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. MOST NOTICEABLE DURING SUBTLE TURNS (APPROX 0.5-1.0 INCH) TO LEFT AND RIGHT WHILE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED FROM A CENTERED POSITION. *JB
THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED,THE CLUNCKING CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS THE FLOORBOARD, IT FEELS AS IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS COMING DISCONECTED FROM THE RACKON PINION. THIS PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN HUDSON FL.ON 12/16/06 AND IN LESS THAN 15,000 MILES IN HAS RETURNED. IN SPEEKING WITH G.M CUST SERV 12/18/07 THEY FOUND DOC'S STATING THIS IS A NOTED PROBLEM. I STILL HAVE NO RESOLUTION. JKS *TR
