TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CABLE BECAME JAMMED. AS A RESULT, THE SPARE TIRE WAS UNABLE TO BE RELEASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARE TIRE HOIST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED WHEN THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THE CONTACT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WEARING MORE THAN THEY SHOULD FOR THE LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEEDED TO BE ALIGNED, THE TIRES WERE WEARING FROM THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE WAS FINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,394.

GM HAS A TSB # OF PIT4193D DATED JAN 2 2008 THAT STATES THEIR IS A PROBLEM WITH TIRES DOT#,S STARTING WITH P5 LAST FOUR #'S 4406 OR LATER, AND A3 WITH LAST FOUR OF 4506 OR LATER. MODELS INCLUDED IN TSB ARE CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCKS FROM 2005 TO 2007 DOCUMENT # 2046749. CALLED DEALER AND TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER. THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS (THATS ALL THE LIFE YOU CAN GET OFF THIS TIRE). WHY ARE THEY DOING A RECALL ON THIESE TIRES? DO PEOPLE HAVE TO GET INJURED OR KILLED FIRST?
I BOUGHT A GMC SIERRIA LAST AUGUST IN 2006 AND IT HAD 6,440 MILES ON IT. YESTERDAY, I GOT A FLAT TIRE. I GOT THAT TIRE REPLACED BECAUSE THE BELT WAS BROKEN IN IT WITH A PUNCHURE IN IT. THEN ABOUT 4 HRS LATER I GOT ANOTHER FLAT TIRE WITH THE BELT BROKE IN IT.*AK
