I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THEN I CAME TO MY STOP WHEN I NOTICE MY CAR WAS TRYING TO START AGAIN WHILE IT WAS IN PARK AND I NOTICE THAT MY CAR THEN STARTED SMOKING WHILE TRYING TO START ON IT OWN AFTER THAT HAPPEN MY CAR HAS NEVER STARTED AGAIN PLEASE HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS CEASED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, AND VARIOUS GAUGES WERE NOT VISIBLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 231,256.
VEHICLE JUST STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WITH NO CODES ON DASH OR IN MEMORY. WILL RESTART AFTER 4-5 MINUTES BUT WILL STALL INTERMITTENTLY AFTERWARD.
THE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND IS LOCKED IN PLACE. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY AND I COULD NOT GET MY LUGGAGE OUT OF THE BACK OF THE CAR BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AND THERE WAS NO MANUAL SWITCH TO UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. *JS
I PURCHASED A 2002 GMC YUKON XL 2 DAYS AGO, SOLD "AS IS" WITH NO WARRANTY. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPEEDOMETER ARE THE LIGHTS THAT INDICATE THE POSITION OF THE SHIFTER (PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, OVERDRIVE, AND GEARS 3,2 AND 1) AND ALSO THE ODOMETER READING. THESE INDICATOR LIGHTS WORKED FINE DURING THE TEST DRIVE BUT BECAME INTERMITTENT ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SINCE THEN. YOU LOSE ALL INDICATION OF WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN AND OF THE ODOMETER READING. THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO A DRIVER SHIFTING GEARS IMPROPERLY AND UNSAFELY, SUCH AS SHIFTING INTO A FORWARD GEAR IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE REVERSE GEAR IS INTENDED OR SHIFTING INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AND SEEKING OVERDRIVE AFTER BEING IN A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD BY A FEW DEALERS THAT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURES ARE SOMEWHAT COMMON IN YUKON XLS AND ARE COSTING AN AVERAGE OF ABOUT $700 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHEN ONLY A SINGLE GAUGE IS HAVING AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SINCE THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON AND CAN EFFECT SAFETY, AS IN THE EXAMPLES I GAVE ABOVE, PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND SEE IF A RECALL/MANUFACTURER FIX IS WARRANTED. I JUST INVESTIGATED DRIVER COMPLAINTS AROUND THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT YUKON XL SPEEDOMETER FAILURE/INTERMITTENT, FOR INSTANCE. IF A DRIVER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT SPEED HE IS TRAVELING AT HE IS A LESS SAFE DRIVER AND A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO OTHERS. EXCESSIVELY SLOW DRIVERS AND EXCESSIVELY FAST DRIVERS CAN BOTH CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN TRAFFIC, AND IN RURAL AREAS THERE MAY BE FEWER, IF ANY, DRIVERS ALONGSIDE TO HELP GAUGE THE NORMAL SPEED THAT IS APPROPRIATE. ALSO A VEHICLE COULD UNEXPECTEDLY FAIL OR STALL IN TRAFFIC, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, IF A DRIVER IS UNAWARE OF AN EXTREMELY LOW BATTERY OR LOW FUEL, ETC. INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR SAFETY IN MANY WAYS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE PROBLEMS WITH INTERMITTENT AND FAILURES IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS USED IN 2002 GMC YUKON XLS. (MINE IS A 1500). *TR
2002 GMC YUKON XL 8.1 VORTEC ENGINE TURNS OFF. POSSIBLY CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION FAILED AND IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE IGNITION SWITCH INTO THE START POSITION. THE CONTACT'S PERSONAL MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,809.
VEHICLE LIGHTING, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, FLICKERS CONSTANTLY, HAS BEEN TO REPAIR SHOP SEVERAL TIMES, ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CHECK OUT FINE. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW AN ANSWER. *TR
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
I OWN A 2002 GMC YUKON DENALI AND LITTLE BY LITTLE THE LIGHTS BEHIND THE INSTRUMENTS ON THE DASH AND STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS HAVE BLOWN OUT. THE DEALER SAID THE ONLY REPLACEMENT WOULD BE FOR THE ENTIRE UNITS AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. COMPONENTS WORK FINE BUT CANNOT SEE AT NIGHT WHICH MAKES DRIVING AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE INSTRUMENTS ARE DIFFICULT.*JB
AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN MAKING LOUD NOISE WITH ACCELARATION, THAN WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS BEGAN BLOWING HOT AIR. THE COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH WERE REPLACED AND WITHIN 1 WEEK THE PROBLEM BEGAN AGAIN. I KNOW 7 PEOPLE WITH GM VEHICLES AND THEY ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR AC'S. IT SEEMS TO ONLY BE A PROBLEM WHEN THERE IS HIGH HUMIDITY. HOWEVER WHEN I WENT TO RETURN THE FAULTY COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH I HAD PURCHASED IT SEEMS THEY ARE ON NATION WIDE BACKORDER. IT SEEMS TO ME THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE.
DEC 24 2004 I RETURNED TO MY PARKED CAR AND STARTED THE ENGINE, THE FRONT DEFROST BLOWERS WENT TO HIGH SPEED AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. AT MY NEXT STOP I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAN KEPT RUNNING. REMOVING THE KEYS OPENING THE DOOR DID NOTHING. AFTER REMOVING THE FUSE TO THE FRONT HAVC THE FAN STOPPED BUT STARTED AGAIN WHEN THE FUSE WAS RE-INSTALLED. AFTER RETURNING HOME I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR A HALF HOUR THE FAN STAYED OFF, THE CONTROLS WORKED PROPERLY. DEC 28TH STOPPING FOR GAS, I TURNED THE CAR OFF BUT THE FAN CAM ON AGAIN AT FULL SPEED. I CHECKED ON LINE AND IT SEEMS SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THE DEALERS HAVE NOT COME UP WITH A FIX. AT THIS TIME I HAVE PULLED THE FUSE TO KEEP THE FAN FROM BLOWING BUT IT'S TOO COLD TO BE DRIVING WITH NO HEAT OR DEFROST IN THE CAR. WHEN I GET HOME WHERE I HAVE TOOLS I WILL AGAIN DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.

I BELIEVE THE DESIGN OF THE GMC YUKON POSSES A GREAT RISK OF COSTLY REPAIRS AND THE POSSIBLITY OF A FATAL ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE RADIO WENT OUT. I ASSUMED THAT MAYBE A FUSE HAD WENT OUT. BUT WHEN ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO REPLACE THE BLOWN FUSE, THOSE FUSES BLEW ALSO. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT A SHORTING OF THE WIRING OCCURRED BECAUSE SODA WAS SPILLED IN THE REAR CUP HOLDER. THIS CAUSED THE RADIO, SPEEDOMETER, HEAT, ETC... TO GO OUT ON THE FRONT DASH PANEL IN ADDITION TO MAKING SOMETHINGS COME ON WHEN THEY WERE IN THE OFF POSITION. BECAUSE OF THE SPILLAGE CLAIM FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THIS I WAS TOLD WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. MY PROBLEM IS THIS, IF A LEAKAGE FROM A CUP-HOLDER CAN CAUSE SO MUCH DAMAGE, SHOULD THOSE WIRES BE SO EASILY EXPOSED? SHOULDN'T THERE BE SOME TYPE OF SAFETY MECHINISM IN PLACE TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING. THIS VEHICLE IS PROMOTED AS A FAMILY CAR, BUT IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE SAFE FOR A FAMILY. IF THE WIRES ARE SO CLOSE TO THE SURFACE UNPROTECTED THAT SODA COULD GO INTO IT FROM A CUP HOLDER, WHAT ABOUT A LITTLE CHILD HAND. I HAVE A TWENTY MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WHO RIDES IN A CAR SEAT IN THE REAR, SHE OFTEN DRINKS FROM A SIP-IT-CUP WHILE BACK THERE. SIP-IT-CUP RARELY LEAK, SO HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT AN AMOUNT GREAT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THIS MUCH DAMAGE COULD OCCUR? SOME SORT OF SAFETY MECHANISM NEEDS TO BE INSTALL TO PREVENT CONTACT WITH THESE WIRES. THESE WIRES CAUSE QUITE A BIT OF SYSTEMS TO FAIL ON THE VEHICLE. WHAT'S NEXT ? I HATE TO IMAGINE THAT IF THIS OCCURS AGAIN THAT MAYBE IT WON'T BE THE RADIO THAT GOES OUT MAYBE IT WILL BE A FIRE THAT STARTS OR MAYBE THE ENTIRE CAR MIGHT EXPLODE. A SAFETY RECALL IS DEFINITELY IN ORDER.
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SUPPOSED TO SHUT OFF AFTER THE DOME OVER RIDE BUTTON IS PUSHED FOUR (4) TIMES WITHIN SIX (6) SECONDS PER THE MANUAL BUT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SHUTTING OFF AFTER SOMETIMES 1 HIT OR 2 OR 3 AND SOMETIMES 4. DRIVING HOME LATE ONE NIGHT ON A BUSY DENVER INTERSTATE WE I HIT THE BUTTON ONCE AND ALL THE LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE WENT OFF. VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALER SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AS THERE ARE NO MANUFACTURERS NOTICES AND THE COMPUTER SAYS THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. *NLM
