TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY CHILDREN AND I WERE DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY JEEP PATRIOT RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING, THE THE VEHICLE GAVE NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE IT JUST STOP, THE CARS BEHIND US STARTED TO STEAM ON THEIR BRAKES RUNNING OFF THE ROAD, WE HAD TO DRIVE OFF THE SIDE OFF THE ROAD TO PREVENT GETTING HIT. IT'S WAS SO TERRIFYING . THE POLICE CAME AND WANTED TO GIVE US A TICKET FOR WRECK LESS OPERPERATION OF A VEHICLE AND THOUGH I WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SOMETHING. I BEGAN TO CRY. IT TOOK 10 MINUTES TO RESTART CAR. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE HOURS LATER WITH NO WARNING. WHEN WE GOT BACK FROM OUR TRIP WE TOOK IT TO FORD MARSHALL, NICK MAYER IN MAYFIELD OHIO . IT IS DOCUMENTED THERE NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THIS VEHICLE STALLS RANDOMLY AT HIGH SPEEDS BUT THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER COMES ON WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND IT IS NOT SENDING A CODE TO GIVE THEM A DIAGNOSIS , SO IF THEY DON'T HAVE A CODE , THEY CAN'T WARRANTY OUT THE PART TO FIX IT FOR ME TO FIX THE ISSUE. SO THEN THEY SEND ME HOME EVERYTHIME AND PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER AGAIN. TODAY MY CAR STALLED AGAIN RIGHT IN FRONT OF A POLICE CAR. I JUST SAT THERE AND CRIED
D/S HEADLIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT, STARTER MAKES WEIRD SPINNING NOISE, WINDOWS WILL STOP WORKING RANDOMING AND WILL WORK AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON, CAR WILL CHUG AT TAKE OFF FROM LIGHTS
THE WIRING TO AND THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING MELTED THE WIRING THAT GOES FROM THE BACK SIDE OF THE PLUG AND DOWN TO THE PUMP THAT IS SUBMERGED IN FUEL ALSO MELTED IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL RUN AND IT WOULD RANDOMLY SHORT OUT WHILE DRIVING. I'VE REPLACED THE PUMP AND KEPT THE PARTS THAT HAVE BURNT.
MY VEHICLE STARTED STALLING WHEN I WAS MERGING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSOR AND STABILITY SENSOR CAME ON AND I HAD TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO GET TO A STOP. THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK VERY WELL AND THE CAR WAS JERKING HORRIBLY. THE CAR KEPT TRYING TO DIE AND WOULD REV UP AND DOWN BY ITSELF. IT TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT RESET ITSELF BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN. *TR
SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC . . . FAINT AT FIRST, BUT KEPT GETTING STRONGER. PULLED OVER TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND SAW FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE SPEAKER IN THE LEFT REAR DOOR. HALF OF THE SPEAKER COVER WAS TOTALLY BURNED AWAY. POURED WATER ON THE FIRE TO PUT IT OUT. ALSO POURED WATER THROUGH WINDOW DOWN BEHIND THE DOOR PANEL TO MAKE SURE ANY FLAMES/SPARKS THAT WEREN'T VISIBLE WOULD BE EXTINGUISHED. *TR
WATER APPEARS TO BE LEAKING THROUGH SUNROOF, WITH INNER DOME LIGHT FILLED WITH WATER. POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL ISSUE. *TR
THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN IDLING DURING RAIN OR WET CONDITIONS.
ALTHOUGH THE WIRE TO THE STARTER HAD BEEN REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2010 BY THE DEALER, THE CAR WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING. I TOOK MY CAR TO A RELATIVE TO CHECK MY CAR SINCE NOTHING WAS REALLY GETTING RESOLVED AT THE DEALER. ONCE MY CAR WAS TURNED OFF IT WOULD NOT RESTART. MY CAR WAS EXAMINED AND THE WIRE THEY REPLACED WAS NOT PLACED BACK INTO THE PROTECTIVE CASING AND WAS SLIGHTLY CHARRED. IN ADDITION, THE STARTER WAS BURNT OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CORE WAS KEPT BY THE AUTO PART STORE THE NEW ONE WAS PURCHASED FROM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID REPLACEMENT OF MY STARTER WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAS VERY SURPRISING THE STARTER HAD TO BE REPLACED JUST AFTER 3 YEARS. *TR
WATER LEAKS OCCUR IN THE JEEP PATRIOT (ALL MODEL YEARS) FROM THE SUN ROOF, A,B & C PILLARS, THE FRONT DOME LIGHT AND REAR DOME LIGHT. THE WATER LEAK IS SO HEAVY THAT WATER WILL FILL THE VOID BETWEEN THE ACTUAL ROOF AND LINER. WATER ALSO FORCES ITS WAY INTO ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS, SUCH AS THE RADIO AND VARIOUS CONTROLS. I AM CONCERNED OVER POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO SAFETY SYSTEMS. JEEP WILL NOT REPAIR IT OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAS YET TO COME UP WITH A PROPER FIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS, THE WIRING HARNESS INSULATORS WERE BEGINNING TO DISINTEGRATE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE WIRES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. MY CAR WAS STILL HAVING A DELAYED START WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE ENGINE A MONTH AFTER TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER AND HAVING IT CHECKED. THERE WERE EVEN TIMES WHEN IT WOULD NOT START THE FIRST TIME. ONE DAY, LITERALLY ABOUT 0.5 MILES AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE RPMS WENT UP AND DOWN CHAOTICALLY AND THE CAR BEGAN TO COME TO A STOP. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE. AND GOOD THING I WAS NO LONGER ON THE FREEWAY. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID A WIRE TO THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE BATTERY. THEY REPLACED THE SOLENOID WIRE TO STARTER AND I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY. *TR
THIS VEHICLE IS MY DAUGHTERS AND WHEN WE TOOK IT IN TO HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED THEY DISCOVERED THE DEFECTS. IN APRIL 2010 MY DAUGHTER COMPLAINED OF A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHE WOULD HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. SHE CALLED ME AND I ASSURED HER THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH ONLY 35000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. DURING THIS SAME TIME FRAME SHE TOOK THIS JEEP IN FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND AT BILLION MOTORS IN SIOUX FALLS,SD AND THEY TELL HER SHE HAS A BAD TIE ROD END. AGAIN I ASSURED HER THAT WITH ONLY 35000 MILES IT IS OKAY TO DRIVE. I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR OVER 30 YEARS, BUT I WAS WRONG. WHEN WE TOOK THIS "JEEP" IN TO NEW TIRES INSTALLED THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED US THAT THE RIGHT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT AND THE LEFT FRONT OUTER TIE ROD END WERE DEFECTIVE. WE WENT TO THE TIRE SHOP AND HE SHOWED ME THE DEFECTIVE PARTS, SO I HAD NEW PARTS INSTALLED. AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS FOUR YEARS OLD OR "NEW" AND HAD 44,000 MILES. IF THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN ABUSED MAYBE THESE PARTS WOULD BE BAD, BUT IT NEVER LEAVES THE HIGHWAY. MAYBE JEEP NEEDS TO INSTALL GREASE ZERKS IN THEIR PARTS. BALL JOINTS USED TO LAST 150,000 MILES, THESE MUST BE NEW AND IMPROVED -HUH!!! HAVING BAD BALL JOINTS AND TIE ROD ENDS ON A VEHICLE THREE YEARS OLD IS JUST WRONG. HOW MANY OF THESE PARTS HAVE FAILED AND CAUSED ACCIDENTS? *TR THE CONSUMER STATED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, THE VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED AN ENGINE CODE: P2110 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM. THE DEALER CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TWICE, AND PERFORMED SOME TRANSMISSION UPDATED. HOWEVER, AS THE CONSUMERS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THERE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT CONTINUES TO LEAK WATER FROM THE INTERIOR. AFTER BEING INTO THE DEALER 3 TIMES IN STILL LEAKS WATER FROM THE FRONT INTERIOR DOME LIGHT, LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT PILLARS. WATER LEAKING INTO THE CAR HAS CAUSED ELECTRICAL SHORTAGES IN THE SUNROOF, RADIO, AND SWITCHES IN THE DOOR. *JS

MY CAR HORN RANDOMLY HONKS ON ITS OWN AT VARIOUS TIMES. I HAD LOGGED THE INCIDENTS FOR OVER A MONTH TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY SIMILARITIES AMONG THE INCIDENTS AND THERE WERE NONE. SPEED, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, TURNING VS STRAIGHT DRIVING ALL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THE HORN WILL HONK SHORT BURSTS AS WELL AS LONG HONKS THAT WILL STOP WHEN I PUSH THE STEERING WHEEL HORN BUTTON. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN IN A PARKING LOT OR AT A STOP LIGHT IT GOES OFF AND PEOPLE THINK I AM DOING IT. I AM VERY AFRAID THAT IT WILL CAUSE A ROAD RAGE INCIDENT/ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES AND MY MECHANIC ONCE. NEITHER HAVE FOUND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DIAGNOSTICS THAT WERE RUN. *TR

THE DAY AFTER MY JEEP WAS PURCHASED, IT WOULD NOT START. WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS, BUT THEN THE CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. IT WOULD ALWAYS A CUT BACK ON THOUGH. NOW IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. THE ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN CHANGED AND SO HAS THE BATTERY, BUT THE CAR STILL WILL NOT EVEN START WITH A JUMP. *TR
