2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION KEY PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED EVERY TIME SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD SHUT OFF, AND THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. *JB
I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN SUDDENLY I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOOD. SO ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER A SMALL FIRE THAT HAD BEGAN INSIDE THE ENGINE. AFTER FRANTICALLY LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE A LOCAL RESIDENT USED A FIRE HYDRANT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. HOWEVER THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND ALL OTHER PARTS REMAIN INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL. *TR
IN 2013, MY 2000 GRAND PRIX HAD SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, FLAMES WERE THEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND HAD TO RIP OPEN THE HOOD WITH POWER TOOLS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. A WEEK PRIOR I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND TWO NEW FRONT TIRES PUT ON. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE LOT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND LATER RE-ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE ALARM WOULD MALFUNCTION ACTING AS IF SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO STEAL THE VEHICLE. THE ALARM WOULD SOUND AND THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY LOCK HER IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. IN ADDITION, THE TAIL LIGHTS AND THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD ALSO FAIL SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 188,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 192,000.
FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS CAR. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS RECALL AT THE TIME. HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2000. IT IS AT A G.M. DEALER NOW AND HAS BEEN FOR 18 DAYS. THEY SAY THEY WILL DO NOTHING NOT EVEN SOMEONE FROM THEIR INVESTIGATING UNIT WILL COME. I HOPE THERE IS SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER. I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN. *TR
THE FACTORY PASSKEY 3 SECURITY SYSTEM HAS NUMEROUS TIMES FAILED AND GAVE ME NUISANCE ALARMS. NOW IT IS TO THE POINT THAT MY OWN CAR THINKS I AM STEALING IT AND WILL NOT DRIVE. IT WILL TURN OVER AND THEN SHUT OFF IN 3 SECONDS, I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS FOR THE 3 DAYS I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND STOPPED TO LET MY SON OUT TO VISIT HIS FRIEND. WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT. I HAVE SAT FOR TEN AND FIFTEEN MINUTES AT A TIME TRYING TO GET THE KEY TO COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS 95 DEGREES OR BETTER OUTSIDE. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR. HUSBAND COULDN'T GET DOORS OPEN, BUT GOT THE WINDOWS TO COME DOWN. HAD TO CRAWL OUT OF THE WINDOWS AND REALIZED CAR WAS ON FIRE. WITHIN 10-15 MINUTES THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY IN FLAMES. THE FIREMEN HAD TO PRY THE SIDES OF THE HOOD UP TO GET THE FIRE OUT. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 121000. *AK
