The contact stated that while driving with the high-beam headlights engaged, there was a dark spot on the driver's side headlight, reducing the visibility of the roadway. The contact stated that the failure was distracting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed the failure was caused by a design flaw. The dealer informed the contact that there was a piece of metal hanging inside the headlamp housing, which interfered with the driver's side headlight while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.
Headlight cracked even though it is made of plastic. Brand new car, only 3 months old and Ford claims that a “foreign object” must have hit it. Although in all the vehicles I have driven in the state of Maine, never has a rocket broken my headlight. Not to mention the cost to fix it is $2,600 for one headlight.
