THE DIESEL VERSION OF THIS VEHICLE HAS NO PARK GEAR. YOUR ONLY OPTION WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE IS TO USE THE EMERGENCY BREAK AND LEAVE IN NEUTRAL. IF LEFT IN D GEAR THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STAY STATIONARY. YOU MUST USE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I'VE OWNED THIS VAN FOR 3 YEARS AND THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE FREEZES WHEN TEMPS ARE LOW. IT'S HAPPENED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST AT 50,000MILES NEXT AT 205,000 AND THEN TODAY AT 220,000 MILES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING WHEEL BEARING AND SENSORS GETS SHREDDED. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IT'S COSTS $1500 TO FIX, ITS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE EVERY TIME IT LOCKS UP WE ARE ON THE ROAD AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM LOCKS UP. IT STARTS WITH A SQUEAL AND EVENTUALLY THE WHEEL LOCKS COMPLETELY. IT'S A HORRIBLE DESIGN FLAW AND IT'S GOING TO GET SOMEONE HURT IN MORE THEN JUST THEIR WALLET.
PARKING BRAKES FREEZ IN WINTER AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THIS IS A DIESEL AND HAS NO PARK THE EVIC SCREEN SAYS TO SET BRAKE EACH TIME YOU TURN IT OFF. MY PARKING BRAKE IS NOW BROKE, DO TO THE FREEZING AND CAN NOT BE SET.
BRAKES BEGAN SQUEEKING WITHIN MONTHS OF MY PURCHASE. WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THAT WAS COMMON FOR NEW BRAKES. NEXT TIME I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER, THEY SAID DUST CREATES SQUEAKS. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT THE SOUND INCREASED IN VOLUME. NOW, AT 23,000 MILES, THE BRAKES ARE VERY LOUD PIERCING AND SCREACHING. NOW DEALER SAYS NOTHING THEY CAN DO...I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. BRAKES DO NOT SQUEAK WHEN COOL, BUT WITHING 20 MINUTES THEY GET VERY LOUD WHEN HOT.
THIS VAN IS A DIESEL VAN WITH AND AUTOMATIC MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND HAS NO PARK FOR THE TRANSMISSION SO THE ONLY PARKING SYSTEM IS THE HAND BRAKE. YOU CANNOT SHUT OF THE VAN AND PUT IT IN GEAR TO STOP IT AS IT WILL STILL ROLL, THIS IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE FROM ROLLING IS THE HAND BRAKE. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE FIRST DROPPED BELOW 30 DEGREES THE PARKING BRAKE WHEN SET WILL NOT RELEASE. THIS IS NOT ALL BECAUSE NOW THE PARKING BRAKE WILL LOCK UP WHEN YOU TRY TO BACK UP EVEN WHEN NOT ENGAGED AND WILL NOT KEEP THE VAN FROM ROLLING EVEN ON A MINOR SLOPE. NOW THE BRAKE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL EVEN WHEN THE WEATHER IS WARM AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES AND THEY CANT FIX IT. THIS IN ITSELF IS DANGEROUS BUT I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS NO WAY TO STOP IT FROM ROLLING WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE FAILS UNLIKE A TYPICAL MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHERE YOU CAN AT LEAST SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN GEAR TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CAN GET BY GOVERNMENT SAFETY STANDARDS!!!!! *JS
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING LOUD SQUEAKY AND SOMETIMES GRINDING BRAKES SINCE 800 MILES THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 10,000 MILES AND CHRYSLER HAS STILL NOT COME UP WITH A REPAIR. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A BAD PRODUCT AND CLAIM THE ENGINEERS ARE WORKING ON DESIGNING A NEW BRAKE PAD. THEY OPENED A STAR CASE AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO DOCUMENT IT ANYMORE. *TR
I TOOK THE 2014 DODGE RAM PROMASTER VAN TO LITHIA DODGE IN EUGENE, OREGON TO DO THE RECALL WORK. THEY REFUSED CITING DODGE CORPORATE NOT ALLOWING THEM TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE DANGEROUS AND DEADLY SITUATIONS RELATED TO THE RECALLS. THERE ARE NOW FOUR RECALLS = ALL OF THEM LIFE THREATENING RECALLS THAT MUST BE PERFORMED ASAP!! I AM NOW TOLD I HAVE TO DRIVE 2 HOURS 15 MINUTES ONE WAY TO GET SERVICE FOR MY VEHICLE. THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME AS I AM ELDERLY AND CANNOT DRIVE THAT FAR. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF DODGE MOTOR COMPANY TO PROVIDE ME WITH RECALL SERVICE FOR MY VEHICLE WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE. EUGENE, OREGON IS 1 HOUR 15 MIN TRAVEL TIME ONE WAY WHICH IS JUST BARELY MY DRIVING DISTANCE CAPABILITY.
