My 2017 Ram 2500, 6.4L Hemi experiences warning lights which I'm told is caused by intermittent PCM failure. I'm told this can cause the truck to stall while in motion, refuse to start, or enter "limp mode". This amounts to a possible unsafe condition that can put myself and passengers at risk of property damage, bodily injury or worse. I brought the truck to Priority Automotive of Westerly, LLC on March 9, 2026 for diagnosis. Their diagnosis (attached) recommended replacing the PCM to correct (possibly), "...intermittent internal short(s)". Cost of the repair is $2,012.42. Subsequently, I contacted customer care at Stellantis (866-726-4636) and was given Case #[XXX]. I was told to make an appointment at the aforementioned dealership and call them the day before the appointment, so they could send a representative to the dealership for examination. I did exactly that to no avail. No one from Stellantis even contacted the dealership on the appointment date. I called them to find out what happened, only to find out (from a supervisor) that they are not offering assistance in the matter. Additionally, the truck is currently under recall #C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 (PCM related) and, to-date, I'm told the part is still not available after more than a year since the recall. I've owned Dodge Rams for over 27 years and find the situation unsafe and totally unacceptable. I'm also aware that many other owners of the 2017 Ram 2500 6.4L experience PCM/ECM issues, causing no-start conditions or stalling, and have reported them alongside braking system complaints. As I approached stop sign and applied brakes the ABS and traction control light came on. My truck then started surging up and down As I attempted to proceed thru the red light my truck stalled and shutoff an on coming car had to stop aggressively to avoid hitting me
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked and turned off on a slight incline with the keys outside of the vehicle, while the contact’s grandson was seated in the front seat, the contact’s grandson was able to move the gear shifter out of park(P), and the vehicle started rolling backwards. The contact's daughter who was putting a baby in the car seat in the rear seat, jumped to the front seat, depressed the brake pedal, and shifted to park(P) and the vehicle stopped rolling. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an unknown related recall. The failure mileage was approximately 164,000.
Abs light comes on and disables the cruise controls. Says abs brake failure and I have researched this and found it is a common problem. 6 speed Transmission is turning on check engine light and says gear 5 and gear 6 has improper ratio. Shifts hard into gear5 and won't downshift for passing gear.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed turbocharger and that the turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed transmission and cooling lines, and it was determined that the transmission and the cooling lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 135,800.
Brakes
transmission stopped working at 51,000 miles on it. Truck goes into drive but will not move.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30-35 MPH, the transmission became stuck in second gear and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate above 35 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact used a scanner and retrieved DTC codes for pressure and gear ratio faults. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist, and it was determined that the failure was due to the valve body and shift solenoid. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 105,369.
ABS, Traction control light came on. Shut down 4wd, parking assist, cruise control. Trucks not braking evenly. Feels like differential is locked
Over the last couple years the Service 4WD warning light would come on causing the vehicle to drive erratically. However this was intermittent and the light would go out after turning the truck off and then on again. Dealers could not diagnose the problem unless there was a code showing. Finally my local dealer found a stored code and diagnosed the problem as a failed front axle actuator.
HCU light cone on the dash and code in the ecu. No damage to vehicle to cause this issue. This is a concern that the ABS system will not work when needed. Dealer says there is a lot of issues with this unit.
The contact’s son-In-Law owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while her daughter was putting her grandchildren in the vehicle, her 2-year-old grandson, who was briefly left in an unknown front seat with the doors closed, pushed the gear shifter into drive (D) and the vehicle accelerated without applying the brakes. The vehicle crashed into a trailer filled with tools located 20-30 ft. away. The vehicle then crashed into the corner of a storage building and stopped. There were no injuries sustained. The air bags did not deploy. There was no police report filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V100000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall in 2018; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
The vehicle randomly goes into 4WD without the user turning the knob to request 4WD. If this happens at high speed it will cause severe damage to the vehicle drive train. Makes steering extreemly difficult on pavement. 1. Service 4WD lamp illuminates. 2. Reduced speed and exited highway. 3. Steered vehicle to off ramp. Upon steering left vehicle entered 4WD without user request making steering very difficult. Vehicle would not return to 2WD unless user shut down vehicle, turn knob to 4WD then back to 2WD. Investigated by certified RAM technician at a dealership on 5/11/2]22 who could not find the issue. The dealership cleared the truck for ordinary use. Currently the vehicle status is service 4WD light is on and it will not shift to 4WD or 2WD. 2 incidents one in 1 June 2021 2 September 2022
The truck went into “limp mode” while driving about 60mph which jerked really hard and almost made me lose control of the truck. I took it to the dealer which cost me $2,000 for a transmission solenoid.
The Abs module and hydraulic control unit have been out on my truck for a year and a half. No abs, no cruise control, no back up camera and no 4wd. Ram has discontinued the parts with nothing to replace them.
My dash will randomly start flashing the messages "service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". Sometimes this happens as soon as I start the vehicle, other times it happens while driving down the road. Sometimes it seems as if a bump in the road will trigger the messages, others are random. When the messages are there, the traction control feature does not work. I do not know if the abs system will work or not as I have been lucky enough to not have to test that. Also, while the messages are present, the cruise control function will not work.
At around 80k miles, started getting the service anti-lock brake system, electronic braking system alarms. Traction control light and abs light are on permanently now. What's funny is that now the rear parking sensor failed which makes me wonder if all this in the electrical system is tied together. Dealer said it was the hydraulic control unit. That did not fix it. Next it was a wheel speed sensor. That did not fix it. Then it was abs module but it is "discontinued." In other words, Chrysler knows there is a major issue and NEEDS to issue a recall but hasn't yet! I have over a grand in this and it's not fixed. Dealer said that they don't know what the fix is. Please issue a recall!
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact had reached a stop sign and when depressing on the accelerator pedal to accelerate when the vehicle loss motive power and stalled. The contact had to restart the vehicle for the vehicle continue to drive, however the failure persist several times intermittently. No warning lights illuminated on the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to have inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure on the vehicle and could not diagnosed the failure on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 15,000.
HI...RAM IS FAILING TO INVESTIGATE MY COMPLAINT. I HAD VERBATIM THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME AS IN MY DOCUMENTATION. I ALSO HAVE DASH CAM FOOTAGE THAT THEY WON'T REVIEW SHOWING THERE WAS NO ROAD DEBRIS. I WAS DRIVING UP A STEEP GRADE, TOWING A TRAILER, THE RADIATOR WENT INTO OVERDRIVE, AND THEN MY SHROUD GOT SUCKED IN. FURTHER PROOF OF THE FAILED INSTALLATION ARE THE DUST RINGS ON MY SHROUD. MY TWO CONCERNS ARE THE ISSUE ITSELF AS WELL AS RAMS FAILURE TO EXAMINE MY CONCERNS INCLUDING EVIDENCE OF FAILED INSTALLATION AS WELL AS DASH CAM FOOTAGE PROVING THAT WHAT THEY CLAIM IS FALSE.
THE THROTTLE IS NOT RESPONDING. IT IS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. DURING REGULAR DRIVING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE DURING BRAKING. IN ADDITION THERE ARE 2 POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE THAT HAVE NO REMEDIES.
