Rear end has a bar inside of axle( bar broke ) took to dealership service guy asked me to explain I did he said ohhh we hear this a lot you need new rear end !!! DO WHAT my car has 94,000 miles and needs new rear end never never any accidents so why new rear end also elec isuess u turn car off and u hear electronic buzzing also breaks are horrible and replaced whole rear end like everything posssiblr and you still hear stuff sounding like whole car gonna fall apart not safe and we bough this car for our kids to be safe and this car is a accident waiting to happen LEMON also the recall with freedom isn’t there fault is Chrysler my van never been there but my rear end broke ??? 1ST VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING HAD TO PULL OVER TURN OFF CAR AND WAIT THEN IT WORKED FOR AWHILE , DOES THIS EVERY FEW DAYS. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES BEFORE 55000 ON THE VEHICLE. AT 58000 THE VEHICLE BOUNCES OVER EVERY BUMP BIG OR SMALL SOME THING WRONG IN FRONT END HAVE BEEN TOLD IT?S FINE

REAR AXLE BRACE THAT FASTENS REAR WHEEL TO BODY BROKE ,LEAVING WHEEL ONLY FASTENED BY SPRING AND SHOCK , FLOPPING ERRATICALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO US ONCE AT 20 MPH AND ONCE AT 40 MPH .WE BOTH TIMES BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A SLOW EASY STOP ..WE SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED, AT ANY HIGHER SPEEDS.THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WE SHOWED PHOTOS OF THE BROKEN BAR TO AFTER THE FIRST BREAK EXPRESSED SURPRISE ,"WE HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE " WAS THEIR COMMENT. THE BREAK WAS AT THE CUT-OUT HOLE IN THE BRACE ,THE HOLE IS FAIRLY LARGE , BIG ENOUGH TO STICK ALL 5 FINGERS INTO.(WE NOTICE THAT AFTER 2009 MODELS, THIS FAIRLY LARGE CUT-OUT HOLE WAS REDUCED TO A QUARTER INCH SLIT , ON THE MODELS WE CHECKED. CHRYSLER WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ,BUT WE ENDED UP TAKING IT TO A MASTER WELDER WHO AS A FAVOR WELDED AND SANDED IT TO WHERE YOU COULD NOT TELL THERE WAS EVER A BREAK..6 MONTHS LATER IN OCTOBER 2015, IT HAPPENED AGAIN BREAKING ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM THE FIRST EPISODE BREAK,ON THE SAME PIECE OF METAL .WE WERE AT ABOUT 40 MPH ,THE BACK WHEEL FLOPPING ,ALMOST THROWING US OFF THE ROAD.THIS TIME WE REQUESTED OUR WELDER FRIEND TO ADD PLATES TO THE BRACE ,PHOTO OF FINISHED JOB ENCLOSED , YOU CAN STILL SEE THE ORIGINAL CUT-OUT. .WE FIGURED WE JUST ENDED UP WITH A BAD PIECE OF METAL ON OUR VAN. BUT THEN IN APRIL 2016,MY NEPHEW ,WHO HAS A 2008 CHRYSLER BUILT VAN (SOLD BY VW) EXPERIENCED EXACTLY THE SAME AXLE BRACE FAILURE,WHILE MOVING, AT EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT IN THE BRACE,AT THE SAME TYPE OF CUTOUT HOLE.HE LIVES ABOUT 5 MILES FROM US, I PERSONALLY EXAMINED HIS VAN AXLE BRACE ,AND WE DISCOVERED THE OTHER SIDE BRACE WAS ALMOST BROKEN THROUGH TOO ..HE HAS A WIFE AND 3 SMALL CHILDREN,THIS WAS VERY TRAUMATIC THING FOR THE FAMILY. WE CONCLUDED THIS MUST BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND WONDER IF PEOPLE ARE NOT DYING ACROSS THE COUNTRY FROM THIS OBVIOUS AXLE BRACE DEFECT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MULTIPLE DEALERS WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V139000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TO WHOM IT MAY MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY CAUGHT FIRE LAST FRIDAY IN MY GARAGE. WHEN I WOKE UP TO BRING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL I NOTICED THE BACK PART OF THE CAR WAS BURNED IN THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ONCE THEY GOT THERE THEY NOTICED THE CAR WAS COLD, THAT THE FIRE HAD BEEN STARTED, AND PUT ITSELF OUT, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. THE FIRE INSPECTOR CAME AS WELL, AND DETERMINED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE FROM THE REAR SPEAKER, WHERE MY DAUGHTER TYPICAL SITS. MY CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. LIKELY WE WOULD NOT HURT, THE FIRE WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE GAS TANK! I'M WONDERING IF THIS IS SOMETHING I COULD FILE A CASE ON OR IF YOU CAN DIRECT ME TO SOMEONE WHO HANDLES CASES SUCH AS THIS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
I PURCHASED A USED 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING EDITION WITH APPX. 30,000 MILES ON IT IN LATE 2011. IN MAY OF 2012, I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHICH ONLY AFFECTED MYSELF AND THE VEHICLE. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL CAME OFF OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE VAN TO SLAM TO THE GROUND AND ME TO PERFORM EMERGENCY MANEUVERS TO STOP. THE WHEEL, HAVING HAD ALL FIVE LUG BOLTS SHEARED OFF, HAD BOUNCED OFF OF THE VEHICLE DOING CONSIDERABLE BODY DAMAGE. THE BRAKES, AXLE, TIRE, ET AL HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CHALKED THIS UP TO COINCIDENCE, PAID MY DEDUCTIBLE, AND HAD OVER $3,000 WORTH OF WORK DONE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE FROM THE ACCIDENT. THIS PAST SUNDAY, AUGUST 24TH, 2014, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. I WAS TRAVELING SLOWER THIS TIME, ABOUT 25 MPH, AND WHEN I HEARD THE SAME WHEEL MAKING NOISE I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT JUST IN TIME TO HAVE THE WHEEL COME OFF AGAIN, THIS TIME DOING DAMAGE TO THE REAR QUARTER PANEL, THE BUMPER, THE AXLE, BRAKES, TIRE, ET CETERA. IT ALSO FORCED ME TO MAKE ANOTHER EMERGENCY STOP, THIS TIME IN THE LOT, WHERE THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED BY THE HANDLE OF A COMMERCIAL DUMPSTER THAT STOPPED MY SKID. I REACHED OUT TO CHRYSLER BECAUSE I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXACT SAME THING TO THE EXACT SAME WHEEL WOULD HAPPEN TWICE, AND I NOW CHALK IT UP TO A PARTS FAILURE ON CHRYSLER'S END. I WAS AT FIRST TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT NOTHING WOULD BE DONE ON THEIR END. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I SPOKE WITH THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VAN WAS TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY THEIR HEAD MECHANIC THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE (FACTORY) ALLOY RIM. I AGAIN CONTACTED CHRYSLER WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CASE WAS BEING MOVED UP TO A "SPECIALIST" AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 3-5 DAYS BEFORE I HEARD FROM THEM. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BENT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

ALSO TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON WHEEL BEARINGS FOR MY MODEL YEAR BUT MY VAN WAS PRODUCED THREE MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL DATE. HOW DO I CONVINCE CHRYSLER THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN MY CAR AS WELL AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? THIS IS ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE MANAGER. *TR

THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 65,000.

AT APPROX 30,000 MILES, I ROTATED THE TIRES, THE FRONT/REAR BRAKES WERE SHOT. I REPLACED EVERYTHING. I LATER LEARNED ABOUT THE RECALL. BREWBAKER CHRYSLER TOLD ME "TOO BAD, I GUESS YOU LEARNED A LESSON" WHEN I BROUGHT THEM MY RECEIPTS FOR THE BRAKE PARTS. AROUND THE SAME TIME, I WAS REPLACING THE WIPER BLADES WHEN I NOTICE THE DRIVERSIDE FRONT STRUT TOWER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. WATER IS TRAPPED IN THE "CUP" OF THE STRUT TOWER AND HAD EATEN QUITE A BIT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I TRADED THE VEHICLE. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE SLIDING REAR DOORS(REOPENING WITH NOTHING IN THE WAY AND CLOSING TOO HARD, IE SAFETY FEATURE INOP), THE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR(BROKEN LINKAGE), THE "Y" COOLING HOSE BROKE/SPLIT, USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES AND LOCKING WITH THE KEYS INSIDE. UPON TRADE-IN, THE VAN HAD APPROX 58,000 MILES. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN! I'VE NEVER HAD ONE VEHICLE WITH SO MANY PROBLEMS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. MY CURRENT VEHICLE, 02 CHEVY S10 4.3L V6 (OWNED SINCE NEW, .2 MILES) HAS 119,000+ MILES AND THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE HAD WAS A BAD TPS, AT AROUND 100,000 MILES. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME AND FIX THERE VEHICLES. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2009 THERE WAS A LOUD RUMBLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO MERLINS & WAS TOLD IT WAS BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. I PAID $600 TO HAVE THE BEARINGS REPAIRED. NOW IN SEPTEMBER 2011 I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE FRONT BEARINGS NEED TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
